I really like chapter tactics as a fluffy way of fleshing out loyalist marines which is why I was taking AoD as the base. That and the strategic/tactical ploys fit loyal marines far better than the marks of chaos and their corresponding ploys IMO
Surely switching a sniper/heavy gunner and grenade launcher isn't too different from taking a flamer/melta/plasma and a rocket launcher right? The rocket launcher will be on 32mm but it'll have the heavy (reposition only) rule to match the legionary heavy gunner
My main concern is that siege specialists chapter tactic (This operative’s ranged weapons have the Saturate weapon rule. Whenever this operative is fighting or retaliating, enemy operatives cannot assist.) might be too strong with plasma/missile gunners but I could always change that tactic for the homebrew
Personally I'll be running flamer/missile launcher since I'm currently cleaning up mold lines on some second hand black reach marines

>firstborn bolt weapons having the same profiles as new and shiny primaris weapons
special ammunition, done. but if you think that would be an issue already you get into harsh trouble explaining why your dudes have smaller siluetts because that effects gameplay (also why a firstborn is as durable as a primaris. dependng on theme, black rage, forcefields, sons of vulkan, mechanical enhancement, bucklers or whatever)
>>
>>97313693
First of all, those in my group that know the slightest amount of 40k fluff recognize primaris are gay and retarded so playing actually cool models with different silhouettes isn't going to be a problem
If someone does take issue I'd recommend not playing with them tbqh, and definitely not playing homebrew teams
Durability and weapons stats I'll handwave with relic weapons/armor (mk6/7 armor and boltguns having seen many decades if not centuries of service by the current timeline)
I feel that chapter specific stuff like sons of vulkan etc is covered by chapter tactics which is why I really wanted to use AoD as a base for the homebrew
As for stalker/bolt/auto bolt I'll leave it up to choice, with an aside that should be easy to tell what is what for your opponent and to try and make fluffy choices for your chapter
>>
>>97313780
if they are fine with all that it should be fine that the stats are similar to primaris to begin with (especially becase there are no firstborn in the game to compare with) sooooo the question seems useless to begin with.
>>
>>97314052
>sooooo the question seems useless to begin with
Silhouette and weapon technology are two different concerns
One is with game balance, the other fluff

>First session of an Eberron campaign
>party has never played the setting before
>Decide to start them during the Last War for a couple of sessions before jumping forward to the 'modern' Eberron
>All they have to do is get a satchel from the front line ten miles back to an outpost
>Boobytrapped bodies
>Gallows for deserters
>Random magical artillery strikes
>Refugees begging for help the party doesn't have to give
>Villages force-evacuated and burned down by allied soldiers so the enemy can't use them
>Allied soldiers being moved away from a front line the officer says would be suicide to try and hold
>Warforged soldiers marching toward the direction the previous group came from
>When they do arrive the satchel is taken from them and they aren't told what's in it

i'm playing 5e for the first time at the end of the month
i want my elf to hail from a village that was wiped out by a fungal infection, forcing him to flee
i'd like his ultimate goal to be curing his village of the infection or at least learning how to prevent it from wiping out other towns
ideally, the cure should involve another type of fungus
anybody know of anything like this in the rules, or something that may be readily adapted to the scenario and solution as described?
>>
>>97312997
In older editions they would be called Pseudo Magic Items, it's a little weird to get that many in act 1. But in the city it feels right, maybe a touch more fitting in Halruaa or Waterdeep but a major city like the Gate would have its fair share.

>>97313093
The gods doing shit in the realms is pretty common. They tend to be the active fuckups behind every major event in history. I have a campaign with a Karsite character where Karsus does show up just to remind her she's a failure for not being at his power level yet. I'm sure on some level he thinks he's helping. But he's also on the short bus of gods and can barely have paladins let alone do any major miracles.
>>
>>97314019
When I DM I love it when players come up with ideas and motivations like this. However, not all DMs are made the same. It may just never matter depending on the campaign that’s planned. Have a chat with your DM about it.

An idea for the fungus could be the Yellow Musk Creeper https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Yellow_musk_creeper
>>
>>97314019
Ask your DM about using the Ruined background without involving the deck of many things. It's very fitting for the scenario you want.
Your cure is going to be largely plot related, but making a ranger or a druid and leaning into the academic side to study fungus would be a great start. Best advice I can give is asking your DM about research societies in the world and letting them know your character will be very interested in consulting them. For the right kind of DM you've got a perfect hook that's giving you motivation to adventure and left them a lot of freedom to write in a story. For a DM who doesn't like that kind of thing you'll never find a single spore that can help. Talking with him and setting expectations for both parties is essential.

how do I upgrade my metallic painting game?
I usually just do a metallic paint then a wash and call it done. I rarely paint highlights on metal. SOmetimes I paint it black or brown or verdigris then drybrush it.

Looking for any suggestions.

Yup, you love 'baiting me' into verbally abusing you for a while, you like the attention since liamposting is a dry well at this point. I should call you a troon or a shitskin just to introduce it into your lexicon to prove my point. But I digress.
You are highly predictable in your obsessions, and you'll do exactly as I predict because you can't help yourself.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?

36th chamber of shaolin (my favorite) there's two sequels that are comedies that are decent
clan of the white lotus
drunken master
executioners from shaolin
fatal flying guillotines (top tier tournament movie with lots of wild styles)
five shaolin masters
five deadly venoms (theres an ok sequel but the "venom mob" are the actor and they worked together in dozens of films, searching them is a good way to find more movies)
heroes of the east aka shaolin challenges ninja (this is kung fu vs japanese martial arts vry fun movie)
invincible armour (peak stereotypical kung fu movie great fights)
invincible shaolin
raiders of the shaolin temple
mad monkey kung fu

Well, what sort of fantasy classes do you like to play? There can often be some overlap with the sci-fi classes and jobs. The EotE can get really specific, so it helps to figure out an archetype and then work from there.
And don't be afraid to fluff something beyond the rules.
I'm doing a current campaign with SW5e(I don't like it nearly as much as FFG) set in the Clone Wars and I'm playing the super basic Human Male Fighter per the rules, but I'm fluffing it as a Clone Trooper who shoots big guns and provides support for the rest of the party.
Despite the party having three Jedi, I end up having to tell them what to do half the time, despite trying to tell them that I am a Clone and will obey any order they give me, they just don't seem interested.
I keep asking the DM when Order 66 is coming.
>>
>>97313925
Invest it in paying off debts, getting better gear, upgrading the ship or getting a better ship, getting a luxury ship upgrade*, insurance, setting up a retirement fund and house, buying a house for my PC's parents, buying a small fleet of murder/cargo loading droids, buying a large herd of GONK droids and letting them roam freely on my new retirement estate's grounds (that one led to a fun adventure). The sky's the limit, and the GM is incentivised to have the player spend AS MUCH as possible.
>>
>>97313973
I mean I'm the DM. I don't know what to throw at my players. "Go kill womp rats in the local cantina basement" sounds lame.
>>
>>97313952
the lando dlc for star wars outlaws had a spaceliner casino that held the highest stake sabacc games around with a very ornate droid as the captain, not nearly to the scale as your droid, but its a bit funny the similarities official media would have down the road.
>>
>>97313984
"You've been hired by a local crime lord to kill an Imperial Moff who refuses to turn a blind eye to said crime lord's dealings"
Now the party gets to decide what sort of morality it wants. Full murder hobo killing evil Imperials, or helping the Imperials enforce their evil lawful ways by helping them get rid of a crime lord.
Or get jobs from a mysterious contact (who may or may not be a part of the Rebel Alliance) to strike and destroy Imperial infrastructure or steal money or ships from the Empire.
Or stealing rare and valuable ancient artifacts from rich asshole who supports the Empire. Or from the local crime lord.

Just spitballing here. You can take a lot of fantasy adventures and just replace things like "king" with "planetary governor" and still have cliche'd adventures rescuing a princess.
The sky's not even the limit since there's also all that space out there to explore. Like having the party fly into an asteroid field to investigate an ancient derelict spaceship for anything valuable and/ or fighting off space pirates who want the loot for themselves or are just harassing local civilian traffic.

>>97314004
Heh, I might have to check that out.
It does remind my of the many times we'd be in a public place and the party members would say "act subtle so you don't attract attention" and I'd have to remind them that "I am seven feet tall, four feet wide, and painted bright red. I do not do 'subtle'"

What do you as a DM if you don't like a character? Let's say the character isn't some murderhobo or totally notevil chaotic neutral ruining the game; he's just fucking boring and maybe a bit cringe in your personal view with a backstory and character motivation that doesn't interest you.
Do you bully this character when he interacts with the world?
Try to get him killed pretending it was happenchance to get a new character?
Or do you suck it up and treat the character fairly while still giving him the character spotlight?

No. Getting bitches is not nearly as much work as becoming dark lord. It takes a lot of explaining why he doesn't just go and pick up chicks or become a rapist. Nor does being dark lord make you attractive.

One avenue could be that he was the horny bard trope and pissed off the wrong magic bitch. Then he got twice cursed to be ugly and an insatiable gooner. So he'd need to become powerful to break the curse and or supercede his looks with his status.

I don't think Saint Kargoth got actual stats back then, but he was originally mentioned back in 1983 in Dragon #79, while I think Soth was first mentioned in 1985-1986.

No, it doesn't.

Thanks. That's that plan out the window.

58% chance to get a fireball for free isnt worth it? Forcing them to use their fated roll at minimum is worth that if you have another spell. With only a 1/36 chance of it blowing up. Ruby ring is good.

35 points from a character's magic item budget and locking off the rest of the enchanted items category is not free. It's a good item, don't get me wrong, but let's not get things twisted. A 58% chance (before dispels) to cast a spell that does 2d6 S4 AP0 hits isn't exactly stellar. A wizard hero has other items he needs to take (lore familiar + power scroll is mandatory for most armies) and a wizard lord typically also has other things he needs to buy to be functional (also the lore familiar, good lord why did they design the spell lores so poorly). You could take it on a non-wizard character, but that just makes the ring even worse. If you're not casting it every turn, you're wasting points.
