>>97211412Yeah. Never trust a clan 100% on their progenitor. They have an incentive to make them look good. Given how the Assamite disciplines are (using warrior as default since it is) Quietus (all about ganking and underhanded methods, literal vitae poison), Obfuscate (stealth), and Celerity (speed, good for fighting but also fleeing), I can say with solid confidence that Haqim was a coward who preferred to avoid a fair fight. I'd also bet money that Caine fucking hated Ventru (though in my opinion this is a point in Ventru's favor), all that Lilith shit with Ennoia is a load of crap and she was just the result of Irad getting horny for a thick wild woman and Arikel definitely dumped Absimiliard after Caine hit him with the ugly stick.

>>97211536The choice is to either get boxes or get peoples' sloppy seconds, yeah. If you get a box then you sell what you don't need to recoup any losses from pack opening. Easier to do if you have friends to split the cost with. Even then, it's better to wait a little bit after Day 1 in most cases if you're not interested in the B/S/T aspect. Got a boat, heading out on a very dark night with my cell. Will be out of contact again for a bit. >>97194901Do any of us really get restful sleep anymore? I'll elaborate on what he told me. See, it's not like you have vampires dictating international policy to a mind-controlled president or speaker of the house. Mostly because they don't care about what happens to one government or another. Vampires don't age, it's one of the basic things about them. Human civilization is at the youngest 10,000 years old and as a species? We're much older than that. The average government rarely lasts 300 years without being destroyed or changed into something completely different. Cultures can outlive the nations or governments which created or defined them, but cultures are always changing. How alienated is the average 90 year old from the culture that birthed him? Now imagine if that same person was 500, and spent a good 450-475 of it drinking blood and never seeing the sun? Even the thoroughbred American vampires have no particular love for America, and I would bet the same is true of other nations too. They compromise governments to protect their interests. Remain hidden, keep the populace unaware and easy to prey on. Keep themselves in power. When everything falls apart, they'll just do the same to the next guys who come along. That's the real terror. I imagine they might care about existential threats like nukes, but that's also assuming someone from 1000 AD does comprehend nukes. Unfortunately, you can't blame vampires for every politician you don't like. >>97205466A lot of gaming and anime. Too much probably.
>>97207994Godspeed on your search tonight. When vampires are put in that perspective that makes them sound rather human. Rather manageable too, I would wager. A shame they are so craven and egotistical, alongside being undead. Although with how your friend describes them, I wonder if they are more territorial than we might suspect.>>97205466I am fond of watching horse operas and their successors. The Spanish and Portuguese make some wonderful melodramas to listen to while attending to inventory and equipment maintenance. I also do some whittling if there is truly nothing else to occupy my time and hands.
>>97207994Your friend seems to be very knowledgeable in the field of vampire societal structures, perhaps a bit too knowledgeable for his own good. If he's telling the truth that it.
Update: We're in the middle of the "dead zone" and we've got another boat on the horizon. Looks abandoned. Moving in to check it out. >>97209241I've never actually met a proper vampire. From what I understand they go where the food is and I live in a very low population density kind of place. From what my guy tells me though, they are typically rather human. They're people with a curse, not demons riding corpses. Don't get me wrong they're still going around biting necks and doing a whole lot of other bad stuff but most keep a low profile. The ones that typically wind up on a hunter's radar are the stupid and the especially nasty ones. As for manageable? I guess that depends on your definition. Vampires aren't that high on the "oh shit there's a dozen people dead" scale but they are a parasite that's nearly impossible to dislodge, assuming my pal isn't full of shit. >>97210908According to him, he was a bureaucrat that stumbled on all this shit. Only reason he's still breathing is he quietly quit before he started his hunter activities rather than try to take down and I quote "the local branch of a ten-thousand year old undead aristocracy". I dunno what he had hard evidence for and what's speculation. as we're approaching the bump limit and we're almost 2/3rds of the way through with december, I'm asking now if we think a second thread is warranted or if this should be it. I'm not gonna continue this thread past the hypothetical next one, since it was designed as a holidays-to new years limited run thread. Give your thoughts in spoilertext.

I've got pulpshit fatigue. Fantasy comic bookiness and pulp are beyond tiresome to me. Ugly as shit art, retarded as shit plots, dumbass pulp tropes like one dude solos an army of 50000 and makes a Marvel quip. Always some dumbfuck scifi or lovecraftian content thrown in too. I want grit, realism, and down to earth plots. I want characters who act like real people, not capeshit actors. I want a plot with substance, not mindless style. I'm sick of it all, everything from Howard to Warhammer to Stench Crusade. Any other fatguys feel the same?>pic related: dog shit pulp warhammer comic from the early 00s
>>97211011Okay, there's a game you should go play in called "traffic", it's perfect for boring miserable assholes who hate everything special about fantasy.
>>97211011Why don't you try reading an actual book, dumb fuck.

>>97211011>dumbass pulp tropes like one dude solos an army of 50000 and makes a Marvel quip>I want grit, realism, and down to earth plots. You've never actually read any real pulp (i.e. magazine stories from the 20s and 30s), have you? The average pulp story was something like a guy who got trapped in the wilderness and had to fight a badger, or a drunken sailor getting into a dubious underground boxing match. Even the fantastic stories often had relatively gritty plots and competent but plausible characters. Doc Savage and Tarzan were absurdly powerful, but they weren't the norm.
>Decide whether the game is within the "main universe" or a separate universe like the disaster that was Danganronpa v3: Killing Harmony.>You need about 20 players.>You have to kill almost all the players, and of those you kill, half have to be murder victims, and the other half have to be judged guilty by the other players and executed.>You have to invent a whole jumble of obstacles for the clue and evidence search phase to discover the culprit.>And the trial phase, oh my god, the trial phase must be mental torture for the DMs, or in this case, I should say... the MMs (Masterminds), and if they've played the Danganronpa games, they'll understand, all the adjustments they'll have to make so that each trial is different from the last.
>>97200129Actually, there's a game to simulate Danganronpa and other types of death games. Look up Despair Dilemma. I've been following it since the development phase, having even volunteered during open testing to try it and give the devs feedback.Instead of "everyone plays one character," because that would be insane, everybody makes a few characters that can be manipulated by each player. Each player also embodies a type of story element or plotline that you see in things like this, with goals like accomplishing certain types of plot twists, breaking characters, etc. You can find the game on itch.io, where there's a demo kit you can peruse. It's not a Danganronpa 1:1, but it'll give you a lot of the same vibes, with the story even being broken up into chapters, and the character concepts being built on loose archetypes.
Does anyone else remember that April Fool's Day joke that was Danganronpa Re:Birth?
And what happened to the Danganronpa Kill/Cure fan project?
>>97200129Danganronpa is autistic enough online, I don't want to play an in-person game with its fans
>>97200533>"Danganronpa 3" is actually Danganronpa 53Don't fuck this one up. Danganronpa 3 is the anime that tied up the ending for Danganronpa 1 * 2, Danganronpa V3 is the game that soft reset the continuity, and the two have basically nothing to do with each other.
NOT A BEN 10 RPG, Pic is just the basic idea.Pretty much, i'm looking for an RPG based around the idea that the base character NEVER gets any stronger, any better, nothing along those lines. No level ups, no no nothing. The main character has the exact same stats throughout the entire game, maybe getting better equipment, but no extra abilities.BUT:, like Ben 10, the idea is that the character can unlock (Maybe via buying using XP or being gifted by the GM or something like that) new forms that they can turn into.Something like Ben 10 with the alien forms that grant superpowers, or Animorphs with the different animals, or Digimon with the Digivolutions. Stuff like that. Are there any systems along these lines that exist?
>>97207837you could houserule it in OVA i guess, just force everyone to take transformation
>>97207837You could potentially do this in Savage Worlds with the Superpowers Companion (which is actually really good for everything, my friend used it to run Megaman, I've used it to run Star Wars and Magical Girls). Let's say you start with 30 power points. You can get these set into arrays, for example you spend 24 points on the first array and can get 3 more arrays (each 2 points). So one could be your big strong guy form, another could have ranged attacks, another could be a computer hacking virus. Savage World's most fun system is the drawbacks where players cripple themselves for more skills and abilities. I think they're supposed to apply to your base form but you could have them apply to the arrays instead (for example the big guy is so ugly that people might attack you on sight for being a monster, the ranged guy could have crippling weaknesses to an element). The powers can also have drawbacks that let you stretch points further.Savage Worlds leveling is interesting. If I remember correctly you get 1-3 Exp after a session based on how successful you were. These are used to buy skills, abilities, etc and every time you gain 20 (even if you spent them) you rank up (novice>seasoned>veteran, etc). With every new rank you could buy New Power which gives 5 new points, which would be two new arrays. The gear part might be the one weakness to the plan. Savage Worlds gear is decent but Super Powers power level kind of blows it the fuck out. But there is a power called Devices which are supposed to be gadgets, so you could use excess points to buy those.tl;dr Savage Worlds Superhero Companion. You start with set skills and a power cap. Gameplay just gives you more ways to use your power cap in different forms.
>>97207837GURPS
>>97207837Mutants & Masterminds
What little of the show I did see back in the day included him trying to turn into one alien only to end up turning into a different one, and it makes me think that a variant of Everyone is John where each player is an alien trying to be activated by the hero regardless of how appropriate their skillset is to the situation at hand would make for a pretty funny game.
Alright, if NOT 5e, what should be babby's first tabletop in 2025+1?
>>97207882OSR is probably the worst way to introduce new people to tabletop, yeah. There's a reason it's a dead scene full of boomers.
>>97205876Whatever system has a concept that the majority of the potential players find interesting. You can have the most braindead piss easy system in the world and if the players aren't interested in it, they bother to learn it. Run something interesting (to them), and they'll learn some fairly complicated rulesets.
>>97205876B/X Alternatively you can use OSE if you understand how B/X is fundamentally different than 3.5 and 5e where there's always a skill to roll for everything.
>>97206190Call of Cthulhu should be the default roleplaying game. The percentage chance of success is incredibly intuitive. The setting is easy enough to grasp, while avoiding a lot of the issues of modern settings (just use your smart-phone to call the authorities) as well as those of high fantasy (the amount of background material). It's great for one-shots, which should be common in newbie games. The source material is available in loads of formats and is pretty great, but if you don't want to get into it, that's no hinderance to playing the game. Lovecraft's racism is a good retard filter. Sandy Petersen is a surprisingly cool dude. The monsters are scary enough that you're encouraged to get creative rather than just charging in.Other good options:Alien the RPG - good for one-shots, fairly accessible (watch one or two movies, or just be told 'it's the 1980s in space'), some nice mechanics (although also some clunky ones), reasonably intuitive and rules-lite. Tales from the Loop is also neat and uses a similar system. In a Wicked Age - very pretentious, but teaches good habits about roleplaying, improvising, and collaborative world-building.WFRP 2e - Sadly not easily available, but one of the best ways of transitioning wargamers to roleplaying. Subsequent versions have been a down-grade.Open D6 - one of the more accessible generic systems.GURPS - you are going to end up there eventually. Might as well just jump in the deep end.
>>97207882>>97210690If you're not retarded and know how to DM then OSR is perfect for getting complete noobs into table top. It's ridiculously simple. While every causal game of 5e I've played has the same hang up. >so I add strength to that, right?>um, do I add my proficiency bonus to that? EVERY SINGLE ROLLAnd that's IF they're paying attention to the game mechanics. 5e is a cluster fuck for new players. Are you faggots seriously going to bitch and cry about how OSR is too simple while simultaneously claiming that modern D&D is somehow easier for new players?
I like the lore of D&D, I like the mechanics of Warhammer Fantasy, so just for fun I want to try and build functioning armies for Warhammer Fantasy based on D&D creatures or factions. Anyone interested in getting shit done?

I love the concept of Giff, whether in Fantasy or 40k; I simply can't look at them and not think they look awesome.
>>97211528Agreed. I don't know whether a full-on "Spelljammer Mercenaries" army is viable, but at the very least, Giff as a Dogs of War unit or as part of the Scro Invasion Force army makes sense to me, and I have a couple of Giff unit & hero ideas already.
>>97211528>>97211552So, these are my current Giff-for-Warhammer concepts, but I'm open to discussion on tweaking them.>HeroGiff Mercenary Captain: A special Hero option, roughly comparable to an Ogre Bruiser with a Brace of Ogre Pistols. Has the unique special rule Separate Chains of Command; you cannot select a Giff Mercenary Captain as your Army General, but all Giff units in your army can use the Giff Captain's Leadership if they are within 12" of him.>Special UnitsGiff Mercenaries: Basically knock-off Ogre Leadbelchers.>Rare UnitsGiff Boombringer: Basically a cross between an ogre bruiser and a dwarf dragon slayer; a crazed giff that thunders across the battlefield blazing away with its brace of pistols or big guns, uncaring if it lives or dies so long as it gets to shoot and explode as much as possible along the way.
