>>97233785no he's right 100%. paizo's aps have also always been mediocre.
>>97236740NTA, but he's not talking about Paizo's APs. He's talking about the very concept of a pre-fabricated adventure. That it completely shits on the improvisation and unique storytelling opportunities of tabletop games. Which I'd argue is a very common take for anyone that...never had to GM before. It is very easy to say creativity is easy to do and have until you actually have to make something for an audience. You just don't get that "oh this is EXHAUSTING to do" feeling until (You) are the one in the GM'ing seat. Not that I am against homebrewing or creating custom campaigns, I do it all the time over spending multiple years running a story that may or may not be good. But I also grown a fuckload more respect to people that make these kinds of adventures and projects things. Fundamentally it isn't that different from buying homebrew stuff (something something tabletop was the OG Paid Mods realm) or throwing in additional splatbooks. An AP is only sacrilege to the concept of tabletop if your idea of tabletop is a very formless, shapeless, aimless experience. Where the very act of doing things together and brainstorming ideas is more important than anything put on paper. That is valid, but so is having a preconstructed adventure that you play as close as possible. After all, gamebooks like Fighting Fantasy or Queen's Blade have been running rampant for all these years yet no one say they are lesser RPGs for their linearity or pre-constructed ideas running into the control freak tendencies of the average RPG player.

>>97235376If they want to control the hex they should have some some forces there occupying it. Unoccupied hexes have free movement, while controlled ones have rolls you have to do with possible penalties. Minefield, entrenched infantry, vehicle patrols, etc. Good use for some of the support cards too.Example: Force A controls a hex, Force B wants to pass through it to challenge an objective. Force A has the local air base controlled and marked that hex as a patrol area. Roll for of theyre spotted, and if so roll for attack and damage for each side.

>>97236474I'm guessing most of the character models are based on real people, probably because the DLCs tried to pull back from the weird Uncanny Valley look Jayden and most of the other characters had in the main campaign. Which is honestly a huge mistake. That's how Clanners SHOULD look. They're weird, genetically altered freaks. Of course there's going to be something off about them. If I was in charge of the art I'd make it a policy to do most characters from photo references but have the Trueborns all done either freehand or collages of different features from various people that fit together weirdly.

I refuse to believe Halo Flashpoint is even a 10th as successful as Mantic claims. In terms of online, easy to find metrics it has:3100 people as part of its sub(P)reddit.2100 or so people as part of Facebook Groups. No one discussing it on Twitter gets many likes/comments/retweets.No one big or well known talks about/plays it on Youtube.Yet it's one of the fastest growing and more popular tabletop games to come out recently?I don't buy it.I don't hate the system, but I am baffled by Mantic's ability to get away with lying about how successful this game is.
>>97236626>fastest growingBasically just means two people liked it last year and six people like it this year

After about 8 years since I last DM'ed a game, I've been asked to run a session. Unfortunately my books - adnd, 2e, 3e, 3.5, 4e, and 5e are in storage two states away. And i prefer physical copies. Thanks to critical role and the movie DND books have gone up in price which is weird.>4e books are ~10-15$ now. Is it viable to run 4e in 2025? I don't remember hating it and I still remember some home rules to streamline combat to speed it up a touch. Does anyone have suggestions for 1-3lvl adventures or campaign settings? >4e thread I guess
>>97235255Look, I love 4e, and it is incredibly easy to run and play in 2025. But running it purely from physical copies is less than ideal. They don't include the errata, several useful books are unavailable, and the online compendiums have everything in one place for easy reference. It can be done, just make sure you use MM3 math for the enemies and have the errata handy. Buy what you can and print the remaining books, they are all available online for free. The generally recommended adventures are HS1 The Slaying Stone, Reavers of Harkenwold, Madness at Gardmore Abbey, and Thunderspire Labyrinth. For new to 4e players, I also generally recommend Prey for Smiley Bob.
>>97236233This is a fantastic suggestion, thank you I'm fine printing off a few adventures and some extra sheets and errata and stuff. >Im running this for some younger friends (I'm late 20's they're in college) and I plan to give the books away if the game takes off because they're broke kids and I prefer basic fantasy, 2e and 3.5 anyway. Also I just prefer to have the books to flip through in front of me.

>>97236881Area: The Eastmarch (that is, the border region in the east)Family: House of AthalSeat of power: New Athaka (minor town, 3 associated fortified positions). Head of the house: margrave Boskas AthalOrigin: the eastmarch was conquered from the [insert enemy here] by the previous generation. The land was mostly settled by soldiers from that war. The margrave Boskas of Athal is a distinguished veteran of that war, known for having led a band of 250 men to keep the enemy from breaking through at [not Thermopylae] and thus granting time for the main army to circle the mountain and destroy the enemy forces. Those who volunteered that day and live are the minor knights (about 70) who settled the region as pioneers. For his service, margrave Athal was pledged ownership of the lands around the mountains. He now holds those lands against raiders and incursions by the previous owners. Economy: sheep, logging and limited mining. The mountains contain some iron, and the rivers that flow down the mountains allow for logging works and wool production alike to use river transport towards the nearby free city of [Whatever]. Military situation: the region is filled with veterans and their offspring. Few question the authority of the margrave. He has taken two fortresses, and built another at the site of [not Thermopylae] to round out the defense. While the fortresses and their garrisons are costly, the economy is somewhat bolstered by the newly forming cultivation of the land and trade with the nearby free city. Politics: the free city is split between excitement over the economic opportunities, and the fear of such a powerful military force on their doorstep. The original inhabitants are mostly glad to be freed of the previous owners, but have many gripes about ownership and rights as they used to be free tribes before the enemy rolled in. The margrave lacks funding, and hopes to secure it with either the crown or the free city.
