One year I got a ton of models and I was wondering why my santa had picked these ones in particular.
Found out a couple months later that it was half of a 2-army box. Which is why I didn’t get a box, or instructions. So I assume my santa had bought the box for himself and the remainder was sent to me.
>>
>>97244800
i've seen some with pieces already cut out. i assume part of it is that people take a few bits out sometimes. also i've seen that sometimes multiple units are on the same sprue, so someone will take the character unit bits, but leave the generic squad bits.
>>
>>97244800
>>97244815
A lot of the origins of our SS is just backlog offloading and bits swapping. Not that it's a bad thing, swapping backlogs can get models into the right hands to actually end up painted and used.
Bluntly, I vastly prefer sprues, bits, scraps, junkyard salvage, and handmade kitbashes over a new box. It kinda lessens the pressure for me to be able to "upcycle" something or work on someone else's kitbash as opposed to cracking open brand new packaging. I ESPECIALLY appreciate people who send big ol' bags of random bits. it lets me run my fingers over parts I never would have known to use. It makes me feel creative and kind of echos that childhood feeling of exploring all the parts of a new lego kit imagining everything you could build. If I had wanted to otherwise seek out those bits it could have been hundreds of dollars from bits vendors or boxes. I've been regularly using bits from a box i got send in like 2019 (shout out to Milwaukee anon - thank you again for all the ogre bits!)

What's everyone's favorite matte spray varnish? Testors was always my go-to but they've gotten bad lately(I have two cans and they both spray really inconsistently. I tried Vallejo but it was leaving some white residue and smells like ass for several weeks after application.

Anyways, two current Kill Team members I'm working on. I'm not super happy with the battle damage on the intercessor sergeant even though I can't imagine actually taking him over the captain so it may be a moot point.

Guys, I want to talk about HELLPIERCERS. I bought this game a bit ago because I thought it looked cool, and I've read it, and I don't know enough people weird enough to play it with me, and I can't stop thinking about it, and I just have to talk about it with someone.

>First up: what the fuck is Hellpiercers? And why do you spell it in all-caps? Do you have autism?
HELLPIERCERS is a tactical tabletop RPG developed by SandyPug Games alongside a few people who did some dev work on some of the Lancer supplements. It casts the PCs as gnostic demigod heroes and veterans of the War in Heaven, who aided the forces of humanity in regaining their stolen gnosis and slaying the Demiurge, his Archons, and angelic generals. Having conquered Heaven and liberated the mortal plane from the tyranny of false divinity, they now cast their eyes downward, into Hell, where countless human souls remain enslaved by the demon lords below. Hellpiercers, armed with their god-slaying weapons, clad in armor forged from the corpses of angels, lead a war of liberation against the forces of Hell, to free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived.

I spell it in all-caps because it's title is rendered in all-caps. I'm pretty sure I'm not autistic, but I've never been tested, so who even fucking knows?

Gnosticism posits that the secret truth of the universe is that we are trapped in an illusion/simulation/prison, and the deity responsible for this is evil. So by rejecting this twisted reality and fighting against it, you are a heroic rebel. It lets you be iconoclastic, rebellious, but also be the good guy because you're aligned with a greater cosmic good that exists beyond the demiurge. You get to have a punch-up with god, but like, without having to go full fedora about it.
Which does kind of boil down to what >>97242687 says, I admit
>>
>>97235095
I'm not sure that setting makes sense: gnosticism is still totally monotheistic, just that the demi-urge is larping as the one true god when he's not. Using terms like "god-slayer" is completely antithetical to the beliefs of gnosticism, as the protagonists would inherently reject that the things they killed were gods. It might sound like a nitpick but it's a critical distinction. It's a red flag that there's no reference in the text to there being any sort of actual god in the setting, plus "free the enslaved souls of every human who has ever lived" from hell? Really? Even the rapists and child molesters? Would the devs want Hitler to be "liberated"? The whole thing reeks of an edgy atheist power fantasy.
>>
>>97243533
>It might sound like a nitpick but it's a critical distinction
If a guy calls himself a god and I kill him, I don't care if he was lying; I'm calling myself a godslayer
>It's a red flag that there's no reference in the text to there being any sort of actual god in the setting
In the narrative present, it's been, like, five years since humans put the Demiurge to the sword. They might not actually know about the Pleroma. Or it's an excuse plot for tactical demon-slaying. Probably a little of both.
>Even the rapists and child molesters? Would the devs want Hitler to be "liberated"?
I won't make any argument on the part of the devs, but if someone told me Hitler was a devout servant of the archons who was consumed by his masters in their hour of need, I'd believe it. In a more abstract sense, if someone told me "Only humans are fit to judge humans. Hitler must be judged, but that judgment is neither the responsibility nor to the right of anyone but humans." I wouldn't... disagree with it.
>>
>>97242679
It's edgy atheist christianity for edgy atheist ex-christians: familiar enough to build off of without any real research and also easy to use as the base for a cynical dystopia.
>>
>>97242679
Lets you keep the cultural trappings of Christianity while pretending to be not a Christian, have cool badguy demons be good guys and other edgy appealing things. Its an easy stylistic with a lot of prebuilt cultural traction.

Talespire, it's pricey and it makes you pay for players, but it looks pretty, it was a holdover from a previous game that I just kept using because my friends already had it.
>>
>>97242560
that's interesting. I mostly use Foundry and build maps with DungeonDraft but that looks killer as a way to make games super immersive
>>
>>97242566
It is, it doesn't have any automation so you have to do everything out of the application, but it's fun to use, you throw dice around and by the end of a session you have a massive pile of dice around the board where people make their rolls.
>>
>>97242535
Nice work, anon. Do all your players have accounts, or will you be their window into the map? If the latter, then you may find that slows things down a bit as players ask you to adjust the camera or remind them which tokens are which.

Map 1: I presume you have a time limit (standard 6 rounds?), but is there anything keeping the PCs from climbing or smashing through the buildings to either side of what I assume is the minefield?
Map 2: Looks good, and I like the deployable structure idea. I take it the tan section around the command building is "safe" from the artillery, which can potentially strike anywhere else?
Map 3: Will the PCs have time to refit between this and the previous encounter, in order to equip aquatic mobility kits? (Regardless of the answer, I'd like to congratulate you on the look of this map, very cool!)
Map 4: Pretty neat all around

What LL are the players at? I'm guessing 4 PCs at LL2 at least?

Everyone's got the program, so they can move their guys around as they take their turns and see the map from different angles.

For 1, standard 6 round time limit with some backup coming in every once in a while, one of my guys is spec'd into heavy duty stuff, so he'll most likely try to bust through the buildings if the other guys don't find where the mines are which is an intentional part of the map design (they'll take longer getting places and more backup can arrive).
For 2, the tan section is where players can deploy buildings, see pic for stuff they can place, it seemed like a fun sitrep from a splatbook I found so I'll see how it goes, the buildings give players a lot of buffs plus a few NPCs for backup so I'm throwing a lot of fodder at them. Artillery can damage the buildings players place but is randomly offset when it fires, so it might go sideways but won't instagib the buildings if they do hit.
For 3, they're already decently high LL so most of them have either have jump jets or flight, I give a brief overview of the mission set before it starts so hopefully no one gets rid of theirs as they know there will be water, I try not to let them change equipment mid-mission unless it's something they find in the field.

Right now, they're 4 players at LL6 after completing a module (Wallflower) and I'm continuing the story on my own, just got their 2nd core bonus, so they're getting pretty high power level, I try to throw a good amount at them because one of my guys in particular has figured out the system very well, he's spec'd into Goblin and Tokugawa, so Heat Sink combined with a lot of uses of Fuel Rod Gun will let him get off a guaranteed 2 Hurl Into the Duats per turn with Overcharge, which is pretty nuts, he's been really good at controlling the battlefield. It balances out well enough because one of the other guys still doesn't understand his playstyle very well and fumbles a bit.

Welcome to the New School Revolution General, the thread dedicated to games derived from the OSR movement.

>What is NSR?
>NSR is a subcategory of the OSR, it mostly follows the same play style but experiments further with the mechanics and settings.
>Broadly NSR games have a gm, a living world, are rules light, deadly and focus on emergent narrative, interaction and exploration.

>What is this thread NOT for?
Meta discussions or drama of the games and its creators aka shadowboxing with twitter, reddit and the OSRG (frens with osrbros)
>stay on topic

>games
Shadowdark, into the odd, mausritter, cairn, mörk borg (and its hacks), dungeon crawl classics, mothership, knave, troika!, whitehack, blackhack, old school essentials (we know this is just a retroclone), etc.
>links, resources, more games!, etc:

>I don't have strong feelings against Troika but I don't find it particularly fun.
Makes sense, I hadn't even found anyone who had played it.

This may shock you but having a free no-art PDF does not stop paypiggies from oinking over the hardcover with Kickstarter FOMO exclusives.

I pirate everything at this point, too many totally useless shovelware items. If I think its useful after reading it I go back and buy it. Doesn't happen as often as I'd like.
>>
>>97245051
Good for you, but that in no way detracts from Anon's point: >>97229771

In fact, the large proportion of shovelware kind of proves his point.

Need help filling out a Wobbie Level II. Looking Right now I have:

Hussar 500 D
Ostscout 9CS
Crab 30
Hermes II 5C
Exterminator 5E

Trying for a minimum 5/8 with C3i, and I would prefer mechs that have earlier variants so I can use them as Comstar forces. Looking at these I have a lot of NARC and TAG but nothing that really takes advantage. Was thinking of using a Griffin 6CS but just a single LRM 15 doesnt seem to be enough for what I want.

What's the highest ranked officer that's actually going to see combat (for the dcms though I doubt it's much different for most IS militaries)? The coordinator of worlds and district warlords of course have taken to the field throughout history but in regular operations where's the cutoff between commanding mechs in the field and commanding from a dropship?

Most Yu-Gi-Oh! discussion encouraged. Post OC, write dumb fanfics with bad CaC in them, duel each other, have fun, etc.

Any of the reasons people enjoy shonen stuff because they're dudes all the same as anyone else. Trying to find a specific reason is basically texas sharpshooter.
>>
>>97243773
You want the real answer? Because Yugioh aired on public broadcast in the States and few black homes had cable TV in the early 2000s.

Actually a good game though for any sort of wandering troubleshooters with interpersonal drama.
