Now this is podracing. The lego streetlights are an interesting choice, I always wonder about using lego for terrain, but I guess you'd need a lot of it to do it all in lego, and that stuff gets pricier every year.

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.

I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.

Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies.

These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence.

This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.

I can't believe I forgot this, but perhaps the biggest core theme of all is -revenge- and through it, perhaps justice. Fighting the conspiracies whose cruelty made you what you are and took everything from you, preventing them from doing it to anyone ever again. This drive to avenge themselves and the single-minded warpath it instills in Renegade Remade is the purpose and focus which keeps them grounded and prevent them from unraveling - whether physically, mentally, or spiritually - even as it's what makes them dangerous. I say "perhaps" because, if they are not entrenched in this conviction, they can instead be Devoted, having found a purpose to commit themselves to beyond their hatred. Unfortunately, this is usually to one of the conspiracies they would otherwise be fighting.

I will add that even this has nuance.

For one, while it is true that "go Renegade against the conspiracy that made you" is a recommended starting point, it is far from the only one. You might have Diverged thanks to an entirely different conspiracy, due to a freak accident, or because of your own wacky self-experimentation.

For two, most conspiracies of the Web of Pain are indeed super-duper evil. Thus, Renegades fighting against them are "good guys" by default, while Devoted are positioned as "bad guys." But many Devoted are coerced or outright enslaved into service.

Further complicating matters, some conspiracies are more neutral-ish, and a rare handful are morally and ethically upstanding. The Standing 5 Chinkon Collective and its Devoted are earnestly, genuinely trying to keep all of Japan safe from otherworldly threats. It is theoretically possible to play someone who goes Renegade against the Chinkon Collective, but if so, such a Renegade would absolutely not be fighting the good fight.

Yet another point of nuance.

Even in the best-case scenario of Renegades fighting some super-duper evil conspiracy, there are still so many innocent dupes and catspaws in the way. Let us take Standing 3 Corvalis Chemicals, for example, a stereotypically evil chemical company.

Most of the people working there are simply wage slaves. They may be dimly aware that they are working for some "evil" corporation, but then, what huge corporations are not? Do these people really deserve to die when a bunch of Renegades storm a conspiracy Node with grenades, Storm Caller, and other devastating AoE attacks?

This is precisely the point of Deep Dive's Kindly Ones, a Standing 7 conspiracy. They are dedicated to taking down the rest of the Web of Pain. Some are moderates, and some even try to eliminate evil conspiracies peacefully. The rest of the Kindly Ones are extremists who absolutely do not care about collateral damage, and think nothing of blowing up Nodes and everyone inside them.

Intentionally cultivated to suit certain needs; including and up to being a biological weapon. Not in the sense of your typical weekly serial monster, but specifically to create a fast-reproducing problem. These tiny races have a couple of advantages over zombies, namely intellect and self-preservation instinct. In certain circumstances, their weakness becomes a strength, as resources are dedicated to visibly larger threats, than the goblins/kobolds/gnomes that are mostly known for screaming at strangers and digging through trash.
All in all, it is really hard to wipe out a species, especially one that has some low cunning and can bolt when shit goes wrong. It is an extraordinary investment that will take decades to happen, and it will take further centuries for the effort to have fully paid for itself.

You can get away with just giving them the actual dungeon map, they will still occasionally get lost or take a wrong turn as long as you don't reveal the whole map at once such as with Roll20's line of sight lighting system.

Yuan-ti also use a lot of proxy armies other than lizardmen, usually humans, but sometimes kobolds or obscure scalykind races. This is kind of hard to depict on just one list though

Yeah, checking out the OG Planescape: A Guide to the Astral Plane, one of the bigger original lores on githyanki, it mentions that while long, bastard and 2-handed swords are iconic, githwarriors are also commonly armed with bardiches, halberds, spiked flails, barbed whips, and scythes...
And, more importantly, a new githyanki weapon is the triple-crossbow, which can fire three shots simultaneously or separately as a light crossbow.

I'd need to double-check the Incursion articles from 3e, but even so, this suggests that halberds and triple-crossbows should be valid weapon upgrades for githwarriors, yes?

To compare, GM of Callidianon's game here. Psyker, several months ago made contact with the world-soul of Iocanthos which showed him a vision of the Tyrant Star. As a result he gained a permanent +1 bonus to all of his Manifest rolls, but after arriving on Malfi his divination powers started acting erratically. As an example, when he attempted to do a reading with the Emperor's Tarot, he drew 'The Extinguished Star' every time, signalling something that was set in motion long ago was going to happen, which drove him mad and knocked him unconscious. He now has to deal with all of his divination powers showing him the Tyrant Star, which he knows for dead certain is going to arrive on Malfi soon - and exposure to it inflicts ramping Insanity and Corruption.

So far for the next series, I showed off the Scramble for Commorragh, where players can fight to claim districts of the Dark City, and the (still incomplete) Directive Tree, where the players can all put XP together to gain new assets and abilities. But those assets, how to upgrade them? Enter the Chop Shop. Some assets and vehicles can be upgraded with new abilities by spending Salvage acquired from Raids and Corruption Missions. Spend the Salvage, get the upgrade. And if there's something the players have in mind, I'm sure the local Reaver Queen can help out. Anything in the name of quarterly profits, after all.

Next, I need to check on something, because if that something is fleshed out enough, I may be able to do something really fucking funny.

There's no universe in which Angron does not defeat Russ given equal weapons and 1v1 like he already did. Russ is in the 2nd bottom tier of primarchs (above the full nerds like no-magic-magnus, lorgar, guilliman) but below literally everyone else.

But does Ld10 matter against Pinning, which tests against Cool instead?
I feel the stereotypical WE list doubles down on having huge anti-infantry melee and ignores basic antitank... Though Spartan fire is on par with Rapier Destroyers, and that list also brought a Typhon.
I really can't believe it did all that on 3k pts.

lost to the nails removes all statuses and sets both Ld 10 and Cool 10. It's unreliable until any WE prime slot apothecaries can activate Nails at start of any charge phase automatically (not a reaction, costs nothing) - instantly giving them +1A and 10ld/10cool.

No opinion on other anon's random probably bad army list.

imagine caring about a release date when the battleforce is utterly ruined by the melee-only leviathan (which can never actually catch anything) and the new boxes are ruined both by terrible female sculpts with girly proportions, horrible weapons on the sprues and being in 6man boxes instead of 10 terminators (enjoy your 67% shrinkflation)
