I don't want to use a crossbow, I want to use magic. That's why I wrote Wizard on my character sheet, and not Guy that shoots a crossbow and occasionally casts a spell sometimes but not too much because then the game might be fun.

Why did you put a class in your game whose premise is guy that uses magic if you don't want players to use magic? Retard.

As a man in a lot of gaming communities, including 40K, Warhammer has a disproportionately high number of problematic fansSimply put, it’s not actually that good at presenting the Imperium as awful. Most of the books follow space marines, so you’re getting a power fantasy, not a deep look into the horrific dehumanisation of the Imperium. Plus the narrative more often than not seems to scramble to try justify the Imperium, which gives further credence to a pro-fascist angle. It was designed to be a mocking satire, but while GW still calls it that, it fails to really execute that.40K in particular nowadays is tonally all over the place. It's simultaneously satire, parody, and a completely straight power fantasy about heroic people doing cool stuff. The Imperial Cult is a vile and hateful religious organization, and also there's an Inquisition... And they are all correct. Like, they burn "witches", but also those witches are real and could doom an entire planet through carelessness. Media literacy is not a thing if 40k fans are just following what the writing puts out
>>96500694>It was designed to be a mocking satireNo it wasn't. Fuck off retard.
Cool bait thread.Everyone and everything in 40k is awful. Most people IRL are awful.Being smart enough to notice merely puts you in a Cassandra-like form of torment, unlike everyone else who are in various other forms of torment.
>uh, no, akshually, hit points are NOT meat points, and the only damage a character AKSHUALLY receives is when they reach zeroThen how do homing spells work exactly?
>>96495909
It's logical for HP to represent somethiung more than meat points lest your come to some inconsistencies. For example, enemy rolled to stab you with a dirk and succeeded with a crit, your pc takes damage but otherwise he takes no penalty; he still fights at his peak.based on that, the gm cannot narrate something like the guy sank his blade below your ribcage or that the tip bounced off your skin, leaving nothing but a bruisesay, another character takes a cannonball but survives with no ill aftereffects, but the next attack, some jester who threw a dagger, reduce you to 0 HPhow was the pc killed with a dagger when he stood the impact of a fired steelball? pure meat points cannot explain this but abstract HP that covers a range of trait does>cannon fires>pc dodges right in time, but the shockwave of the impact ruins his footing>as he was picking himself up, a jester peeres from behind a wall and fling a dagger at you>too thrown-off because of the explosion, you fail to dodge, and the dagger inclusts itself in your sternum>pain makes you lose consciousnessnaturally this has more sense than either no sell a cannonball but immediatelly get nearly killed by a mere daggersure, if the pc has a supernatural ability, like a force fields that weakens with each impact, or that has some degree of immortality, you can play along these features, but that would involve giving the pc powers that he has no access to
>>96494921Yes.
>>96496061What are you talking about? Plenty of people have access to those powers.
>>96496061>inclusts
I want to play the superior PF2, but all the in-person groups I can find only want to play gay ass D&D 5e. Fuck this shit hobby. Why does the far superior game have to be far less popular?

>>96500579>because the system is rarely the limiting factor in your enjoyment of the game.Unless you're retarded. If you're not, you realize that it's important to actually give the DM tools to run a proper game.
>>96500579Player opinion detected.System is central to the game you run, it's central to what you can even do at the table. Better systems better games.
>>96499569I started learning the system as a player and decided it was better than 5e while playing it. Like the other anon said, 5e is too undefined when it comes to PC actions and turns pretty much devolve into attacking every round or mother-may-I for Advantage. Even Fighters in PF2e have varied enough options between defined tripping/grappling/disarm rules and such. The system has plenty of issues but even from the player side it's miles ahead of 5e.
>>96500629Not at all. System mostly just saves you prep time for whatever scenario or story you're trying to create. The math rocks or specifics of the sequence of play aren't that important; all the big systems have degenerate loops of anti-play. But again, nobody has the time or resources to playtest all the mechanical permutations that might lead to a game being broken wide open. You play D&D because you want generic high fantasy adventures. You play Vampire because it has a bunch of stuff out the box to play vampire urban fantasy. Coming up with all that shit on your own would be a massive time sink, compared to coasting on hundreds of hours of writing and editing that the publisher and creator invested into the books.RPG horror stories are rarely the result of problems with the game; they're almost always social problems with the people involved.
You know what time it is, post kino wh40k/AoS pics and games that just make you want to get down to the LGS and PLAY!
>>96494387>best wayi forget the saying but finding the right opponents is like half the battle in wargaming. even if you're playing GW which has a lot you want these people to be fun to play against, buddies if you will.finding/building a community is difficult, people are a herd so it pays to have some like minded people to start with. fucking my local crew started with like 10 people playing one game then hit like 40.also it pays to put extra work in, if you can show a lot of passion it will draw the eye and help you stand out.But fastest way is to have social skills and consider your environment.if you're in a more urban place with a lot of artists you could have a conversion heavy game take off if it doesn't already existhunt down local communities first.if you're literally the only person, then generally have a friend who wants to play it first, people are most interested that ways. they can come by, see you having fun and want to join in.another method is setting up a group for it, via the messaging App of your choice, set up a demo gram with your LGS (or join a club)my local sore has a lot of AWG players, we've got people playing Saga, bolt action, forbidden psalm, and a bunch of smaller things.there's a lot of people, i've met many of the people who play epic in my city whilst playing other games.i always suggest skirmish first, it's lower effort, lower commitment and allows people to engage in self expression first but it really depends on where you live.
>>96497498Personally finding people is not the hard part.Wrangling the dopamine fucked twats is the hard part.At least in my country we have encounter the constant issue that people simply won't show up to the events/games
>go to a local tournament to play some mesbg>stellar tables packed to the brim with color and detail, and since the game is designed to work with dense terrain it doesnt interfere>on break go look at other tables>old world is just flat mats with maybe a single terrain piece on the entire map>infinity is a mess of unpainted mdf kits>40kek is just literal cardboard L shapes>only historicals (I think it was flames of war or bolt action) have tables that look impressive>even blood bowl tables had more effort in their scenery than 40cucks AoS and 40k piggies are just astonishing. At least old world sloppa has the excuse of rank&flank not working with dense terrain.
>>96499374Warhammer fantasy usually just had some hills, a building or two and maybe some forest. A very terrain heavy table had all of those.

Back from the dead edition>What is Shadow of the Demon Lord?:Shadow of the Demon Lord is a horror-fantasy tabletop adventure game that presents a world standing on the brink of annihilation. In this game, you and your friends play characters charged with fighting back against the spreading evil, whether that involves tracking down potent relics, exploring ancient faerie ruins, journeying into Hell to bargain with the Devil, or battling demons and the cultists who summon them. The system is setting agnostic and has a wide variety of possible details for your own world.>What is PunkApocalyptic: the RPG?:Another game using the Demon Lord Engine. Text trimmed for text length constraints.>What is Shadow of the Weird Wizard?:It's a high fantasy game running on the Demon Lord Engine. It's similar to SotDL, but without the horror elements and the power levels are higher.>Trove Link:r3br@nd <dot> ly /SDL>Reference Table:Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>96473737Thanks for the trove link, I didn't know we had one for sotdl. A shame these threads always suck, my friends are really enjoying our level 0 sessions so far. Granted, they come from DnD 5e, so all the attack options and different actions the books lists that anyone can do is blowing their minds. Hopefully at higher levels they don't just end up only casting spells and just doing basic attacks. It's my first time playing it too, so only time will tell.
>>96479330Such as using it to make a literal poop golem that can attack enemies with projectile diarrhea. No, I am making that up and no, you are never living that one down.
>>96496995In my experience, some of the base combat options become less useful over time as they get in-path replacements for them or start to specialize more, but sometimes a clutch Help or Distract roll comes in handy or becomes a decent option when the party is facing an enemy that one or more party members can't as easily engage with. The melee and ranged attack options never stopped being useful though, and even became more prevalent as time went on and the players had more ability to gain boons to offset the penalty.
>>96474554Better overall rules and pacing to Demon Lord, but doesn't have the 10 years of support Demon Lord has (and continues) to gotten. The majoirty of enemies at difficulty 16+ that are immune to fear is fucking annoying when there are Matser Paths that completely rely on that affliction to really use half it's kit, though.
Gonna try and pitch Weird Wizard to my normal group once I feel I have at least 10 sessions worth of content in the back burner, since I don't have a lot of time to make it up as the group goes; picked up a ton of OT from work. Unfortunately, that means I'm likely the lone provider for all the rulebook (buying a 2nd and possible 3rd copy of the core book PoD in paperback). How would you pitch the game to a group who've only played 5e, and some Cyberpunk RED?

>>96486290Don't worry. It's the sixth novel I'm working on. This project has been a lot of fun so far. Never worked on something vampire-related and can't really say that I have been hugely into this topic before as well. But it's a timeless classic, and still so much you can do with it.
The only acceptable magic element are Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and Aether. These elements have been a staple for thousands of years across every civilization in history. From the americas to Europe to Asia. Using anything else stupid.

Both the stoner slob who has completely given up on life and the snooty high class snob are both prime contenders for the element of Crystal.

The Stormlight books were released a couple weeks ago, what does /tg/ think of the game so far?
>>96490814Justify it to who, and for what reason? If it's your GM in terms of being overpowered, explain that taking two radiant paths is a huge pain, since your base enhancement powers don't stack, and there's barely any crossover between paths that don't share a surge, meaning you're going to be weaker than other radiants or even shard-wielding non-radiants in your group at the same level. Your investiture is going to be tied up four ways assuming you're not overlapping on surges, and the talents that make the basic uses of your abilities free in terms of investiture cost are higher level, meaning you're probably going to focus on your main one (probably a movement like gravitation or adhesion) and slowly level the others.
