>In the game Werewolf: The Apocalypse, the Garou (werewolves) were made to defend the earth from the cosmic forces that threaten to tear it apart. The Garou fight against the Wyrm, the destroyer. It is a struggle against nearly insurmountable odds, especially considering the rivalry between many tribes. These rivalries make it almost impossible for the werewolves to present a unified front against a cosmic force that pervades reality.>From this morass of hatred and mutual betrayal, there is little hope that the Garou can emerge triumphant against a foe so well armed as the Wyrm. If you could choose the set of core classes (in the PHB/core book and ideally the rest of the classes are designed around them) what would you choose? They don't have to be identical to their current incarnations. For me its,>Ranger, absorbs a lot of the fighter but keeps the independent survivalist schtick.>Paladin, Divine warrior with special abilities but no spells>Rogue,Sneaky stabby martial, basically as he is now>Wizard,>Druid,>Cleric,Default to being lightly armoured wandering friar tuck type character, but with options to put on some armour and bonk.
>>97280438And yet you didn't.I wanted to see what classes people thought of as key. Which seems to drum down for a lot of people to just the 3, fight man, magic man and smart man.Far too many classes, honestly, should just be GUY and NERD

>Class that excels in hard-hitting melee damage. Doesn’t always connect hits, but when they do, they can take a lot of health off an enemy. Also has a good reserve of health themselves to tank >Class that excels in low-damage melee and closeby-ranged that can also target weak points. Has a high chance of connecting hits, but doesn’t chip too much damage off the enemy if hit. however, if they hit a weak point/ make a precise attack, they make the enemy much more vulnerable. >class that excels in distant ranged attacks/ spellcasting. these attacks don’t do too much against an enemy’s health, but when successful, they have a major effect on making the enemy easier to fight (e.g. a successful attack reduces the enemy’s Difficulty Class/ Armor Class, reduces the amount of damage an enemy can do when it makes a successful attack, or increases certain weaknesses the enemy has so that the higher-damage classes can deliver severe walloping.
>>97277820Minimal stats OR minimal character progression. Mid-Colonial Island Adventure Setup & System HelpHello fa/tg/uys and a happy new year. I'm planning a new campaign and would appreciate your collective wisdom. I'll lay out the pitch and would like your thoughts, ideas, and especially system recommendations. The year is roughly equivalent to the early 1700s. The players are new arrivals or long-term residents of an island colony. Mere weeks after their arrival it becomes apparent that no ships from the homeland arrive. Ships sent out for help or trade simply vanish. The colony is now utterly isolated. Resources are finite, society is beginning to crack, and the unexplored interior holds ancient secrets.>Resource ScarcityNo contact with the outside world. Every nail, bolt of cloth, and ounce of gunpowder is precious. Gold is the main currency, and it matters—for buying scarce supplies, hiring help, bribing officials or mayby hiring trainers if gold can be tied to character advancement.>Low-to-Mid MagicMagic is rare. Players won't be casting spells at the start. It's something discovered in the forest ruins or bargained for with strange spirits mid-campaign. Church sanctioned magic is the exception with high ranking members of the faith having access to considerable magical power.>Healers for Hire There are a few lowly priests of the faiths that can perform rudimentary healing rituals but demand some gold or favors. This type of healing and warding, especially against diseases, is used by the church to maintain power and influence. They're NPCs, not party members, at least initially and the most common source of magic.>Zero to HeroI would really like for the player to start really low powered. More akin to semi-skilled commoners than competent adventures and it should take time for them to actually become strong and capable. I would like for them to eventually become big players in the island. Maybe even hold titles or positions of power.
>>97271332I really like this aproach, where everythings count. Low magic but having to bargain with spirits, its also my jam.Systems, Beyond the wall for his magic system/having a village/colony sounds apropiate if you go OSR like. Mythras, wich si very good for anything down to earth, would be my second option for system. I really like the Colony stuff, tough I usually go for the bronze/iron ge amalgama with lots of inspiration from conan and other pulp stuff. Of late I been reaing books about whaling (because its the nearest thing to monster hunting we have done) and only one whale like a right whale would be a boon for any colony or village, so monster hunting and hte rest could be very well be the diference with starving or being secure.
>>97271332You could homebrew that off of ReConquest very easily. The skill system would work and the magic may also (the magic is generally rooted in Scandinavian folklore and has usage conditions and restrictions associated with that, maybe alternate it so that natives have their own rules for casting magic, colonists also do, different gods and spirits respond to them, learning the other's magic would probably be an ordeal and require being accepted into the other culture as one of their own. It also natively has that divide between folk tradition magic and church magic, with sorcerers dealing with spirits and bards using divine magic)It also has a system built in for terrain generation and exploration and very detailed rules for travel, survival, building frontier societies. The game is about resettling a 'lost' continent. It's a completely different flavor, but that's easy to change up for your own use. Oh, and the system was made by an autistic white nationalist and convicted murderer, if that matters to you.>>97271531One thing to consider is that gunpowder does not need to be imported and can be made rather simply. Conquistadors made it after arriving in the new world. The ingredients are simply sulfur (found near volcanoes as mineral deposits), charcoal (burning wood), and potassium nitrate (saltpeter) which can be found in bat guano deposits (caves). Basically, even an isolated colony could likely produce their own gunpowder. Depending on the timeframe of your setting they may also be aware of the "French method", of isolating saltpeter from urine primarily from stables, that began in the late 1700s.
>>97271332so the colony of roanoke well it sounds like a perfect fit for mythras to me. these low power, commoner to hero, low magic kinda realistic games are the type of games it excels at
>>97280104colonial gothic is also an underrated game that i ppreciate and would fit very well what you re trying to do
you should probably use the Barbarians of Lemuria system to play this; with some of the added rules from Honor+ Intrigue, which explicitly is designed for games set in the 17th-18th century.

I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies. These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence. This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.(Continued.)

What do I need to replicate EGO from project moon?
>>97277915>>97280346It is ultimately the same d10-based dice pool game as Chronicles of Darkness in general, for good or for ill.Resource-management-wise, Deviants have no "Mana" pool. Instead, they work off 1/scene, 1/chapter, and in some cases, 1/story abilities. (Almost like D&D 4e.) However, each Clade has a method of instantly recharging abilities.Black Vans' earlier chapters introduce ways to adjust dice rolling, such as by allowing automatic success under certain conditions.>>97281142The Player's Guide to the Contagion Chronicle actually has a small section on crossing over Deviant and Hunter specifically, though this was not written by Eric Zawadzki.Eric Zawadzki did, however, write Black Vans, which has a much larger and comprehensive section on crossing over Deviant and Hunter.Comment too long. >>97276424>Secret World of Alex MackFuck, dude. I completely forgot about that show. Now that I think about it, the Demon: the Descent campaign I ran a while ago accidentally had a bunch of Pete & Pete shit in it, from taking place in a small town full of weirdos that was weirdly isolated from the rest of the world and strangely without place to seemingly everything in town being owned or manufactured by a monolithic corporation with robotic, unsettling employees. How much has my lens for perceiving World of Darkness been informed by Nickelodeon shows from the 90's?

>>97282340I'm too lazy to go looking for it, but I remember Shahua's anon posted a possible background info doc once - maybe the ancient sect leader of the destroyed devil sect they mentioned?Alternative ideas, based on stuff mentioned in character rentries or just random ideas:>They're trying to abort the Sacred Embryo (Chizi) and force the world back into primordial chaos. Possibly using Ming's division/duality to achieve this.>The Devil-God that originally practiced Moyu's Shadowed Menagerie, the Cult wants to revive it and achieve immortality inside of its artificial afterlife.>They're not trying to revive something, they're trying to free the thing trapped in Shahua's coffin (not sure what it is, the fingers in her image are pretty creepy though).>A long dead Jin Empire ruler/royal. Maybe someone Yecheng or the Xun Patriarch killed? Or a previous Xun leader - the Cult hate the Patriarch and want to Make Xun Great Again.I like dead ancient cult leader, but wouldn't be opposed to a devil-god torturing the people who thought they'd get a cushy afterlife.
>>97282340>What would they be reviving? A dead devil-god?Devil-god sounds good to me.Or, if they're reviving something, how about a body for their leader to use instead of a generic evil guy? That way the "final boss" can have a presence instead of coming in out of nowhere. A devil-god would likely have more of a connection with the ghost domain too.>>97282508I feel like the revival plan should be "perfect" in the sense that, with no interference, a high power level for the ressurectee could be achieved. So instead of them reviving a mid-low tier threat setting wise, they end up reviving a high tier threat but with weaker power (in order to be fightable) due to PC interference. Then include some "argh my power needs time to grow!" so our PCs have urgency in killing it before its powers grow out of control.>>97282542>>They're trying to abort the Sacred Embryo (Chizi) and force the world back into primordial chaosNgl I think that idea in particular sounds extra terrible lmao. The idea of Chizi being tied to the world itself instead of "just another extremely talented cultivator" feels really stupid to me.>>The Devil-God that originally practiced Moyu's Shadowed Menagerie,>>They're not trying to revive something, they're trying to free the thing trapped in Shahua's coffin (not sure what it is, the fingers in her image are pretty creepy though). These ideas feel dumb to me too. Like I guess its an angle to be pursued and aren't as dumb as the Chizi one but still. The Moyu one isn't as bad as the Shahua one. If anything, I like the idea that maybe they're related to the Big Evil Guy's Big Evil Disciples. If there's more "people" for the cult to revive that lets both of these happen and not feel as silly.>>A long dead Jin Empire ruler/royal. Maybe someone Yecheng or the Xun Patriarch killed? Or a previous Xun leader - the Cult hate the Patriarch and want to Make Xun Great Again. The latter sounds fun if we go dead guy instead of devil angle.
>>97282542All these are exactly the kind of ideas I was trying to avoid since they really make a couple of builds the center of the story rather than on par with the rest.>>97282581>I feel like the revival plan should be "perfect" in the sense that, with no interference, a high power level for the ressurectee could be achieved. So instead of them reviving a mid-low tier threat setting wise, they end up reviving a high tier threat but with weaker power (in order to be fightable) due to PC interference. That's what I meant with my suggestion. I feel like if they have a god guiding them there would be less chances of mistakes, since the god would find out and react. I guess we could go with a god that can't comunicate to allow for a weaker revival. So we can also have the scene where it awakens unaware that the ritual was fucked up and it isn't at full power, so it gets beat up and runs away to gather more power.

>>97282615depending on your setting that's a damn tall order. especially starting in the late 19th century banks got sick and fucking tired of robberies in the US, so they stopped carrying liquid cash. most wealth of the type youre describing would be invested somewhere, not kept in a bank like a damn runescape account.simply limit the amount of gold in the vault or massively increase its size and weight. for example you could have the vault consist of absolutely gargantuan art pieces that are far too big to fit in a bag of holding, or the money could be minted in silver instead of gold or platinum. after you'd added that much value of an amount that you're okay with the players having, put the rest in things like bonds or other non-currency pieces of wealth or banknotes.

>>97279044I don't check weight too much, I always felt it was superfluous. However, I do usually use basically loadouts (usually 2 weapons and maybe a sidearm/melee weapon), and tell peeps that if their loadout seems unreasonably heavy then they probably won't fit it on their body. I do tell peeps to carefully check their ammo and reloads, though. OSP is very important, and the teams have to figure out weapon and ammo transportation, such as spending time outfitting a vehicle with ammo racks, purchasing ammo drops, or that one time they bought a porter slave.
>>97279688Weight is intrinsic, there are no "skills" for armor etc so it's a balance for carrying mega-gear. You have people with 20-30 strength & toughness walking around in full carapace with heavy bolters which is massively over weight, still running at full speed (I bet you ignore narrative speeds and just have people turn up at X time, ignoring agility) and lugging around heavy gear. It unbalances the game and makes nullifies things like unnatural strength bonuses etc. It even impacts you jumping and lifting shit which everyone also ignores. It makes me rub my tummy and grumble.
>>97279794>there are no "skills" for armor etc Not in official material, no. But I did make some stuff like that. Some Kroot talents, for instance, are dependent on wearing light armor.>narrative speedsI use degrees of success based on Navigate and Survival tests to determine the days or hours a trip to a zone takes, and how many rations or food items it consumes / can be created or replenished on-site. Most of my teams tend to stay together, however, since separating means getting wrecked.>Unnatural strengthStill good for melee damage>It even impacts you jumping Well, there was that one time everyone wall-kicked off the techpriest to jump over a forgepit. Usually, everyone just hookshots over with a grapnel if they're mortal. Last series, the deathmark just teleported everywhere and the cryptek and praetorian could fly, so it was just the royal warden who needed to worry about running.>lifting shitThe only time I ever looked at the lifting rules was to play a prank on someone. Otherwise, I've done lifting and carrying as a Degree of Success extended challenge, since it's usually tied to an objective of some kind.
>>97279937Black Crusade has complications to making weight matter since for space marines in power armour their carry weight is crazy. It's only came up so far with minions especially the serf and aspirant minions who were always encumbered like pic related.I haven't limited how many weapons they could carry (currently they aren't carrying unreasonable numbers of weapons) but just houseruled that weapons they could actually draw in combat without using an action to fish them out was limited to whatever was in their hands plus 2 maglock points excluding grenades (obviously heavy weapons can't be put away or maglocked). I also kept track of ammo. It's been a very effective tension/risk reward mechanic as they currently are wandering homeless renegades with no resupply and legion ammo is hard to find in almost all places. Obviously that will become less of an important choice once they get shit like a ship or hideout.
>>97272190Well yeah there's that side to it, but also in general the whole point of having these rules is to provide a simulation of "reality" (as reality exists in that universe). If say, just for one example a regular human in only a bodysuit is tanking more damage than an ogryn, that weakens the simulation. The more this kind of thing is done the more it erodes this framework put in place to provide such a simulation, and nothing fucking matters right? You're all working to collaboratively make this big cool story, but if you're not following a cohesive set of rules your story is tantamount to toddlers in the sand pit bashing toys together and blowing raspberries. Like who cares if X character did something real epic and survived Y to pull off Z when this character is coated in plot armour and constantly rolling crazy high, nigh impossible to fail tests because we're all ignoring what's actually on the character sheet and the action/combat rules in the book? Just something to bring up to them and see what they say.
>no display names>no player cards >large groupHow do I keep track of the characters? It’s such a weird thing to ignore. Just throw a name and picture onto the screen like every other Channel does

>>97282618If he did, that weird little anon who always defends him would get some acknowledgement, but he never does.
