For some time now, I've been developing my free game, an RPG/strategy interactive fiction simulator about a Dark Lord/Lady trying to conquer/destroy a fantasy world using intrigue, corruption, dark magic, and brutal military force.

I have already sought and received your help several times, for which I am grateful.

I am planning another major update, focusing primarily on the endgame. Players focused on direct conquest will have new ways to find loot—portals to crazy, Lovecraftian worlds, discovering new lands, and a magical slumber to wait for the rebirth of old enemies/the emergence of new ones (and seeing how the world changes in their absence). For players more interested in the less brutal side of world domination, the options for managing the territories of our empire will be expanded. Will you allow orcs to overrun Dark Elf cities? Will schools focus on training engineers for the army and economy, or on brainwashing them into blind obedience? Furthermore, I'm expanding the Dark Lord's interactions with other characters, including available romances. Of course, new content requires testing, and since, as usual, it's highly non-linear and dependent on player decisions (plus random generation), I can't test every combination myself.

That's why I'm seeking the help of testers.
Here is test version - no need for download, it is playable online in the browser, no need to register or download: https://adeptus7.itch.io/playtesting

what did you expect anon?
The countryside everywhere is dirt poor. People work and make the absolute minimum producing the resources for the thing people in cities consume and the merchants make all the money.
The farmers in your countries make pennies where you local market or chain makes dollars from the very same item.

Living in one place instead of being nomadic migrants is "counter-natural" according to your idiot's logic.

You're just coping to come to terms with your slow life of inexperience on a farmstead somewhere in flyover country. You have to believe it's "more natural" than the rich, exciting lives other people have in vastly different settings.

Mechanically, penalize excessive violence or excessive participation in violence. Either through classic PTSD style trauma, or (more appropriately for your murderhobo-types) dissociative violent outbursts that the player isn't in control of anymore. Upside is this will mechanically enforce negative feelings towards violence without completely creating nonsense consequences; downside is that this measure takes control of the character's mentality away from the player, which is often disliked by the players.

Practically, the more important thing than any direct mechanical consequence is players buying into a grittier game where rampant slaughter of their enemies isn't going to be consequence-free. It is incredibly difficult to make someone care deeply about something when they don't care at all to begin with.
>>
>>97384224
I just present them as human. It's that easy. Have them try to flee when things go bad, have them plead for their lives when caught, have them do mistakes or panic in battle. Treat them as living things, not pieces on a battle board.

It's that simple.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

They aren't "special" but the elves are cautious of them because they appeared on the continent as primitive semi-nomadic tribals and quickly built up multiple human civilisations to rival them in only 2000 years. Mainly as a result of being used as mercenaries by various warring elven nations due to their perceived expendability and stronger physical strength.
>>
>>97367934

Humans are the standard. Every other race is a branch of humanity, gaining disadvantages and advantages.
>>
>>97384120
That's THE evolutionary advantage.

Why though? What's stopping the other races from pumping out more babies?
>>
>>97385100
At first, the worldbuilder's desire for human dominance and the rarity of other more special better races aka the way people who made dnd felt about things and they humanfaggotry and afterwards, tasteless retards aping the past and sacred cows galore that have created an atmosphere that humanity has to be the dominant race and that is the default nowadays in fantasy
>>
>>97385100

Not him, but a useful starting framework is humans need something like fewer calories (2,000 or so) to work than a giant troll (50,000).

Necromancy Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Any predictions on the lore? I.e what are your predictions on future characters or story/world development? Do you think any particular faction is going to be fleshed out or introduced? It makes no sense for SM because their creation is bottlenecked hard by the availability of a precious biological resource, and so to make the best use of it they would naturally want to make sure its only going into the best possible candidates, which is always going to be men
>>
>>97385003
They could write that out. I'm saying the reason consumers hold SM to being male only is because they portray purely masculine and male ideals. Female SM would be a repudiation of an axiom that is intuitively understood by the entire human race. It'll give normal people the ick and GW know it would actually result in sales dropping.
>>
>>97385003
There is no bottleneck anymore, Cawl and his magical dog shit writing means he has access to and can create any of the 20 primarchs geneseed whenever he wants.

>>97384944
It would be the opposite, They wouldn't throw women into the grinder at all. they'd wait for them to be the correct age to make kids and then have them just pumping out kids non stop, as for the men they'd grow up to do their designated job or be converted into servitors.

Don't be too happy, Paradox is used to blowing through money on failed gambles. Their record is 40 something billion on one of their spreadsheet games.
>>
>>97384996
Just run a Rite of Passage story to start off the chronicle. There's even an entire pre-made adventure designed with that start in mind, called the Rite of Passage.

That way, a group can absolutely start off as nothing more than a bunch of scared people who recently went through their First Change and don't know what the fuck is going on and are in need of a little education. While the First Change typically occurs shortly after puberty, it can happen at any point in a person's life so a person can play an older character who has suddenly become a werewolf if they want to.
>>
>>97385033
That is a good idea, though I'd still think VtM is easier to get into as an overall setting. Werewolves kind of have a certain mindset I think and WtA expects you to work within that more than what VtM asks of you. Just an imo though, I do think running on of the pre-made starting adventures is a good idea.
>>
>>97385050
VtM also requires certain characters designed with certain requirements in mind, it just offers more options than WtA. While WtA asks the players to create characters for the Garou Nation, VtM asks the players to create characters for the Camarilla, Sabbat or Anarchs.

Unless the ST is intentionally providing a sandbox experience without any particular direction in mind, VtM players are absolutely required to create characters that fit the sect that the chronicle's going to revolve around, unless they want to end up get executed by the prince's scourge for violating the Traditions or executed by the bishop for heresy against Caine.
>>
Speaking on starting a chronicle, how does this sound as a starting situation:

Due to an ongoing war with the Anarchs or Sabbat, the prince of the city loosened the rules on making new vamps for a period of time to gain an advantage. Now, peace has been attained, and they city cannot afford the extra mouths. Most of the young vamps are slain, but the PCs are taken aside and given the deal: the Prince owed their sires a favor, so they are spared. But the Camarilla cannot feed vampires who don't contribute, so the players are given a domain that has several problems; a serial killer and gang violence have a lot of uncontrolled police attention there, it's a border area that could be contested by outsiders, and a vampire who tried to stay neutral in the conflict is hiding somewhere in there. The players are given the impossible task to clean the area up. If the players fail, it's not skin of the princes nose and he's basically paid off some favors for free. If they succeed, he looks like a genius for seeing the potential in this ragtag group of neonates.

Does that sound like a decent framing device for something more sandboxey? I'd like something that is more player driven, but could function as an intro for players who know nothing about WoD.
