The amount of hate for Garth Ennis will always be funny to me.
>>97355473Cause he’s overrated by the type of nerd who pisses themselves with glee over the thought of being edglords dunking on “baby” cape comic fans with their cynical ocs without realizing Garth himself is a cape comic fans, just one with bad taste and a fetish for bad things happening to good people. He’s a decent writer, but he would be better if he didn’t have shock content as a crutch. Most of his fans are subhuman losers who aspire to be the type of sociopathic retards that Garth Ennis’s Punisher would gun down, though.
>>97355473Having read enough of his work over the years, I can confidently say he is "one of the comic writers of our times".Lotsa his stuff never goes anywhere; he loses interest in his own work, because he's mostly a surface-level person, so five issues in he gets bored of the aesthetic and starts thinking up something else.Freakangels?Went nowhere.Desolation Jones?Went nowhere.Garth Ennis?Going nowhere.

Thread #02 Lean Winter on the TundraPrevious Thread: >>97090196Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.>Spoiler any OOC discussion.Happy hunting. Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.
>>97355263Vampires also start as people just like you and me, and I doubt they're the only ones. You're avoiding the question. Is there some inherent property of the supernatural that makes people evil?
>Vampires also start as people just like you and meNot from what I know >You're avoiding the question. Is there some inherent property of the supernatural that makes people evil? It's the corrupting aspect of it. These things stop being human, some pretend they still are like you or I and others don't even bother. I have never met a creature that didn't deserve death. There always was something that they've done.
>>97356525Don't tell me you believe that "they're demons running around in people's corpses" nonsense. Regardless, in summary you do believe that there's something inherently corruptive to the supernatural, that it strips away one's humanity. Where does the buck stop on that? Some people here have been claiming to have the ability to do "magic". Is that going to strip away their humanity and make them a monster?
>>97353314>>97353367>>97355348 I think I can get it across the finish line with a bit of help, I'll start Monstrum Obscura up again. Fell sick and had to stop. I think everyone's a little burnt out on the RP posting because these sort of forum based RP has natural limits that come about from irregular updates and a lack of resolution mechanics. Give it a few months I'd say, see if /schreck/ actually dies again or remains a zombie general. If it does die, that'll free up a few interested RP posters at least. I will not be making another RP thread myself, but anyone's free to take up the mantle.
>>97356951>Regardless, in summary you do believe that there's something inherently corruptive to the supernatural, that it strips away one's humanity.Outside of the classic "power corrupts"? Yeah, vampires are a great example. You have these monsters that feed off humans. Notice how less and less human any of them act as time goes on. A normal person doesn't change his stance on the value of human life just because he got old or suddenly decides that the things he would't have done when he was younger are fine suddenly fine. I believe that there's something wrong with them on a fundamental level. Some people here have been claiming to have the ability to do "magic". Is that going to strip away their humanity and make them a monster?I steer clear of them, no matter what magic they claim to have. i mean, we know demons and ghosts are real and that they have powers. That magic has to come from somewhere since most of us can't just summon fire out of the palm of our hands or stuff like that. I'm not saying that these things are evil but I also wouldn't trust them in case they are.

Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. >>97275738Well-written story, as always. Although I always thought that the Backrooms are most effective as horror when there's no controlling them; they're not magic in the traditional sense, something that can be affected by rituals or channelling some ethereal force. They're just unknowable, a break in reality. Maybe you can learn enough to map them, but how or why they come to be are beyond human understanding.>>97284799>>97284807>>97284820This is actually a really interesting concept. Assassins' Guilds are very common tropes in fantasy but they're rarely female, and I don't think I've ever heard of an organisation of anti-assassins.Also, 'Midwife of Serpents' is an extremely cool name for the head of an all-female assassins' guild.
You guys ever just rip off a video game, or a TV show in its entirety because your players are to normie to know the material?

>>97348058I have kind of told him that screening is a better choice for the most part, but he just says he would rather deal with the ball carrier directly rather than waiting, and he says that the threat of a blitz is still there so he wants to take the fight to players directly to hit people before he gets hit. He even sends his throwers and catchers after people. I would get it if he throw his weight against stunties or he was making a risky play for a touchdown, but this is not it. I have shown screening when I play other teams, but he does not seem to fully get what I am doing.
>>97356705>he wants to take the fight to players directly to hit people before he gets hit.And he has a hard time understanding that basing the opposition generally guarantees he is the one who gets hit first? He might actually be retarded.

Conquest looks so fucking fun, but no one here plays it nor care about it, I think not being bog-standard fantasy is a cons for most of the people...I like Spire, might as well just buy the models
>>97356868Conquest models are pretty neat I must say, regular grunts pass for monstrous infantry in other games.

Stop looking at fantasy settings and its cultural dialogue through contemporary utilitarian lenses. Your present reasoning and thoughts are a direct result of sociocultural narratives, they're not objectively reasonable or the apex of human thought.

Should an elven wizard be more powerful on average than a human one? Explain your answer.
>>97356728>human mage raw retarded fireball power because bombabigger bomba --> better wizard>elf: gets all the shit done without being spectacular. Countless spells and knowledge for every spell and truely understands itelf is basically spec ops killer compared to human who is a soldier with a bazooka
I don't allow any race in my settings to have a default lifespan longer than twice or shorter than half of a human's. Solves these problems nicely.
>>97357123>The only factor is life-long experienceSounds to me you are a terribly unimaginative fuckwit
>>97356728In a wargame, yes. NPCs, yes. Player characters, no.There are more human arch mages not because humans are better mages but because there's more humans.
Depends on the system. If elves have a bonus to intelligence, spellcasting or any mechanics and natural affinity for it. Then yes, obviously. Even if they are the same level or age.If he's an old elf, then obviously, since he's still alive and the human wizard is dead. And if he's not dead, then he's likely a liche, vampire or some other abomination. If elves have all the aforementioned and humans are still better wizards, then you are an idiot-writer for breaking internal logic for some HFY-bullshit.

What can you do to make bandit encounters more immersive and interesting than the old ambush-fight shtick?
The bandits offer to handle part of a quest for coin. They fake it convincingly. The PCs can find their hideout.
>>97353837This is how my current 3.5 campaign started (though technically he was from a merchant house LARPing as one).
>>97349486Make the ambush so unexpected or so weird, people go with it.Last time I had a bandit ambush in a game, there was a dead man and a dead wolf on the road, apparently killing each other. When one of the players decided to check, the wolf spring out on him and the "dead" man fired a crossbow at one of our wagon's horses. Was unexpected enough that everyone went with it, especially since it kinda fit into the campaign goal and sides of conflict in it to be ambushed by bandits like that.
The "bandits" intervene on the party's behalf in a fight theyre not necessary in then demand a fee thats worth more than the loot.
