The amount of hate for Garth Ennis will always be funny to me.
>>
>>97355473
Cause he’s overrated by the type of nerd who pisses themselves with glee over the thought of being edglords dunking on “baby” cape comic fans with their cynical ocs without realizing Garth himself is a cape comic fans, just one with bad taste and a fetish for bad things happening to good people. He’s a decent writer, but he would be better if he didn’t have shock content as a crutch. Most of his fans are subhuman losers who aspire to be the type of sociopathic retards that Garth Ennis’s Punisher would gun down, though.
>>
>>97355473
Having read enough of his work over the years, I can confidently say he is "one of the comic writers of our times".

Lotsa his stuff never goes anywhere; he loses interest in his own work, because he's mostly a surface-level person, so five issues in he gets bored of the aesthetic and starts thinking up something else.

Freakangels?
Went nowhere.
Desolation Jones?
Went nowhere.
Garth Ennis?
Going nowhere.

Karl Kopinski, Paul Dainton, Adrian Smith and John Blanche basically created the feel of 40k. Modern, antiseptic and bland digital 40k art looks so soulless in comparison.
>>
>>97354607
Yeah. It requires a lot of restraint to have a good game in my opinion. Otherwise it is either a comedic or tedious mess. I just remember everyone flooding their armies with bullshit to fuck each other over. There is a reason 99% of things were nerfed and the FOC was added in 3rd.

Extremely easy to break it on accident and you can make some bullshit without even trying, while also building a gang/army that is mechanically not fun to play.

Once, again: Wrong!

"Unscrupulous players may be tempted to use blast weapons to pick off leaders and heavy weapons in an unrealistic fashion. To prevent this the following rule applies. The owner of the target unit can move an incoming Blast marker onto a different part of the target unit providing that:
a) The Blast marker covers the same number of models (or more) in the same unit.
b) The new target is within the firer's range and line of sight.

Why must I be cursed to be the only one in these threads to ever actually read the rules?

Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

Vampires also start as people just like you and me, and I doubt they're the only ones.

You're avoiding the question. Is there some inherent property of the supernatural that makes people evil?
>>
>Vampires also start as people just like you and me
Not from what I know
>You're avoiding the question. Is there some inherent property of the supernatural that makes people evil?
It's the corrupting aspect of it. These things stop being human, some pretend they still are like you or I and others don't even bother. I have never met a creature that didn't deserve death. There always was something that they've done.
>>
>>97356525
Don't tell me you believe that "they're demons running around in people's corpses" nonsense. Regardless, in summary you do believe that there's something inherently corruptive to the supernatural, that it strips away one's humanity. Where does the buck stop on that? Some people here have been claiming to have the ability to do "magic". Is that going to strip away their humanity and make them a monster?
>>
>>97353314
>>97353367
>>97355348
I think I can get it across the finish line with a bit of help, I'll start Monstrum Obscura up again. Fell sick and had to stop. I think everyone's a little burnt out on the RP posting because these sort of forum based RP has natural limits that come about from irregular updates and a lack of resolution mechanics. Give it a few months I'd say, see if /schreck/ actually dies again or remains a zombie general. If it does die, that'll free up a few interested RP posters at least. I will not be making another RP thread myself, but anyone's free to take up the mantle.
>>
>>97356951
>Regardless, in summary you do believe that there's something inherently corruptive to the supernatural, that it strips away one's humanity.
Outside of the classic "power corrupts"? Yeah, vampires are a great example. You have these monsters that feed off humans. Notice how less and less human any of them act as time goes on. A normal person doesn't change his stance on the value of human life just because he got old or suddenly decides that the things he would't have done when he was younger are fine suddenly fine. I believe that there's something wrong with them on a fundamental level.
Some people here have been claiming to have the ability to do "magic". Is that going to strip away their humanity and make them a monster?
I steer clear of them, no matter what magic they claim to have. i mean, we know demons and ghosts are real and that they have powers. That magic has to come from somewhere since most of us can't just summon fire out of the palm of our hands or stuff like that. I'm not saying that these things are evil but I also wouldn't trust them in case they are.

Writing General: 'festive' edition

Welcome to /wg/, the thread for all /tg/ related writing. Whether you're plotting your campaign, trying to come up with a character backstory, or just trying to write some setting fluff, this is the place to post it. You don't even have a campaign, just an idea you want to develop? You're welcome here. While the rest of /tg/ is arguing over monstergirl mating and which way rivers are supposed to flow, we're here to help you turn your thoughts into an actual finished product.

As the successor to the Storythreads, we're also open to /tg/ related fanfiction (D&D, Warhammer, Battletech, whatever). In fact, if you've written any vaguely /tg/-related short stories, you can try them out here. We also have flash-fiction challenges from time to time.

There's a discord for writers here
https://discord.gg/6AwKHGF

The previous thread can still be found in the archive here

And finally an archive of /tg/ fiction can be found here:

Well-written story, as always. Although I always thought that the Backrooms are most effective as horror when there's no controlling them; they're not magic in the traditional sense, something that can be affected by rituals or channelling some ethereal force. They're just unknowable, a break in reality. Maybe you can learn enough to map them, but how or why they come to be are beyond human understanding.

This is actually a really interesting concept. Assassins' Guilds are very common tropes in fantasy but they're rarely female, and I don't think I've ever heard of an organisation of anti-assassins.

Also, 'Midwife of Serpents' is an extremely cool name for the head of an all-female assassins' guild.

I have kind of told him that screening is a better choice for the most part, but he just says he would rather deal with the ball carrier directly rather than waiting, and he says that the threat of a blitz is still there so he wants to take the fight to players directly to hit people before he gets hit. He even sends his throwers and catchers after people. I would get it if he throw his weight against stunties or he was making a risky play for a touchdown, but this is not it. I have shown screening when I play other teams, but he does not seem to fully get what I am doing.

A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,

Testing has shown that when humans read quickly the first and last letters, the length of the word and the remaining individual letters in a jumble is what is noticed and then context of the text is the used to identify the exact word used. This results in word pairs like Calvary/cavalry and rouge/rogue being "mentally" the same word.

Depends on the system.
If elves have a bonus to intelligence, spellcasting or any mechanics and natural affinity for it. Then yes, obviously. Even if they are the same level or age.
If he's an old elf, then obviously, since he's still alive and the human wizard is dead. And if he's not dead, then he's likely a liche, vampire or some other abomination.

If elves have all the aforementioned and humans are still better wizards, then you are an idiot-writer for breaking internal logic for some HFY-bullshit.

Make the ambush so unexpected or so weird, people go with it.
Last time I had a bandit ambush in a game, there was a dead man and a dead wolf on the road, apparently killing each other. When one of the players decided to check, the wolf spring out on him and the "dead" man fired a crossbow at one of our wagon's horses.
Was unexpected enough that everyone went with it, especially since it kinda fit into the campaign goal and sides of conflict in it to be ambushed by bandits like that.
