4chan does have a toxic hivemind culture.
But users here can't downvote to hide your comment entirely. Nor are the mods known for abuse of power, as hilarious as that sounds. By comparison, 4chan is still a platform far more supportive of free speech. It isn't perfect. But it's at least better in that regard.

The worst part is regardless of whether or not those greentexts happened or not they totally could have been. They were made by people just like you playing games, taking the feel of playing with your bros and distilling it into the text.

Everyone knew it didn't happen, but it didn't matter - as long as no one pushed to hard the illusion would remain.

Also fuck the CAPTCHA it's dogshit.
>>

It's kind of like wrestling, or the existence of Santa Claus. Whether or not the actual sessions happened that exact way is impossible to prove and rather worthless to fixate on for that fact, cause we've all dealt with asshole GMs. That Guys, and generally rotten situations enough to enjoy it. But everyone treats it like reddit in trying to be the kid trying to scream to the world that Santa Claus isn't real, or that wrestling is fake, in order to feel clever and special. It's like yeah, no shit, taking it at face value's a bad idea, now shut the fuck up about it.

It also has made me reluctant to tell my own petty stories for the mild fear that I'm going to have some smarmy underage cunt screaming that my story didn't happen. And most of the shit that's happened to me is otherwise too boring to tell. It really does suck the fun out of telling stories, especially for those times you aren't exaggerating.

I don't know, maybe it's the...darkness, so to say? Since it's crayon colored, and you took a photo of it, it looks a bit rough in the literal sense. Like, the top of the image is noticeably shadowed. Of course, I'm not exactly sure how you would avoid something like that when taking a photo myself.

The art itself looks good, though. Maybe the top head looks a little flat, but I like it.

Of course, I didn't request, it so...

Ah that, flash effect. I took several photos and this was the less dark. I'll try taking another picture tomorrow.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Fair enough. At the very least I could "salvage" them or individual NPCs that I do want to characterise. Since you mention Hedge Wizardry, do you use cantrips? I'm on the fence on those as well.
>>
>>97317609
I told my players that they can select the cantrip Proficiencies if they're casters, but no one did so yet.
Only the aforementioned apprentice NPC got Hedge Wizardry, introduced him having used Overlookability to escape some Orcs. Players rescued him and one hired him as a henchman, he's currently studying to earn his last few hundred XP to get to level 1.
>>
>>97317792
>I told my players that they can select the cantrip Proficiencies if they're casters, but no one did so yet.
I think by the Axioms rules all casters get them by default, as many cantrips as they can cast 1st level spells? Or do they require the proficiency?

>he's currently studying to earn his last few hundred XP to get to level 1.
That's another thing I'm not planning to use from ACKS, the idea that everyone can become a classed character with a few hundred XP. But that's pretty easy to house rule, I'm not worried.
>>
>>97314510
If you think you have to do that for every NPC then you're doing something wrong.
Also if it's that big of a deal and you want them to have the proficiencies listed, just make a set of default proficiencies that everyone gets including endurance, and then just swap one out for a specialty or whatever if somebody is a specialist
>>
>>97318590
I meant classed NPCs. 0th level NPCs are defined by their profession, so that's okay. Why are you singling out Endurance specifically, though?

I've spent the last year, studying, and designing a custom Arthurian set, originally intended to be based on Le Morte d'Arthur (like how P3k was based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms).

However, as I continued to study, and look into different (and some obscure sources) this turned into a much more wider net.

This set, which is no where near finished includes
>Welsh Triads and The Magnibong
>Pre-Vulgate Arthur traditions
>Vulgate/Post Vulgate/Lancelot cycles
>some English/Welsh fairy tales
>and even a bit of the Victorian Arthurian revival (especially for art).

I avoided the Italian and German romances entirely, and tried not to include weird outliners except when needed. Outside of art, nothing is sourced from the 20th century or onward. Also all art is public domain.

I'm mainly posting here for feedback. Some will be art recommendations, flavor text (especially sourced) will be always welcomed.

>How did they even fit a Dire Wolf though the door before I doubled the size?

>A creature's space is the area in feet that it effectively controls in combat, not an expression of its physical dimensions. A typical Medium creature isn't 5 feet wide, for example, but it does control a space that wide. If a Medium hobgoblin stands in a 5-foot-wide doorway, other creatures can't get through unless the hobgoblin lets them.
>A creature can squeeze through a space that is large enough for a creature one size smaller than it. Thus, a Large creature can squeeze through a passage that's only 5 feet wide. While squeezing through a space, a creature must spend 1 extra foot for every foot it moves there, and it has disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving throws. Attack rolls against the creature have advantage while it's in the smaller space.

> Sucks too because it was my first time in the GM seat.
And you expected to be good at it?
>>
>>97315268
Did your players seem miserable during the session? It's not rare for a first time GM to be overly self-conscious and to be keenly aware of every little mistake, even ones that don't really bother the players at all. Even if thing actually went bad in a way your players noticed too, eh, it's not a big deal. It was your first time, mistakes are bound to happen. First time I ran a game I had a super-special, completely overpowered half-dragon NPC literally force the players into a fetch quest the characters otherwise had no reason to be interested in. I got better, you will too, and if you actually had something worth running figured out you're off to a better start than I was, no matter how badly you bungled the execution.
>>
>>97315268
>it was my first time in the GM seat
>>97315300 says it concisely. The first game I ran was nearly a TPK because I didn't know shit about how to balance encounters. You'll get better
>>
>>97314882
That's a mechanical systems issue. Whatever game system you're using should have clearly defined mechanics regarding the action economy of all your characters' abilities and attacks, along with targeting and line of sight rules.
It's not up for interpretation.
There is no "should". And the fact you used "should" right there, tells us that you were the one in the wrong.

My apologies, I didn't see that DOOD boxes are only $35. The cost of that is low enough that you could try gambling on a box or two if you want without having to consider these things. Just don't blow your wad.
>>
Rolled 4, 5 = 9 (2d10)

>>97317624
>Should I gamble $[value of a box] to get a card out of it that's in a slot that the box only contains on average 2 of and is further diluted by it being 1/10 cards in that slot with independent probability?
Im gonna roll some dice and if they roll 10 then I "got it". If it's anything else then I just look really stupid and wasted money.
It's statistically unlikely for you too pull necessary copies. Not to mention you are near certain going to need to open more than one box because they most likely contain 2 SEs and you need 3 of them for the deck.
If you want to not trick yourself into thinking these are good odds what if I told you that if you bought the single there's an 80% chance that the seller just runs away with your money and sends you some garbage. Does that sound like a smart purchase?
>but you can sell the cards you don't want
You're not selling shit. Don't kid yourself. If you had to ask this question and you're buying on ebay then you're not likely a savvy buyer or seller. The card is $5 less on TCGplayer for starters.
