i struggle with generators outside of items and encounters, the arbitrariness of them tends to turn me off. of the things i own Pirate Borg probably has the nicest ones, if i had to pick, though can't say i've actually used them yet.

what did they mean by this?
>>
>>97345793
>only one actually embodies the concept of chaos
>still just embodies it in the most stale, predictable fashion imaginable
seems pretty much not chaotic if you ask me
>>
>>97345793
Religiously, in traditional cultures/religion, "chaos" meant "the forces outside civilization." City = order. Wilderness = chaos. So anything animalistic like rage, rampant sex, gluttony--all traditionally "chaos" in things like Greek and Mesopotamian and Laventine religion (also the ocean is chaos for some reason). Just look at Gilgamesh or the Bible for stories where the good gods slay the chaos gods: yaweh versus leviathan, gilgamesh versus hambaba. Civilization good. Destablizing civilization? Chaos. Hence Enkidu (who gets away from chaos by drinking beer, eating bread and sleeping with a prostitute). Really, tzeentch embodies chaos least of all, out of them.
>>
Of course the real answer is just Moorcock and Anderson. That's where Warhammer and D&D both get their law/chaos dichotomy from.

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

Wrote a battlereport of my battle so far if you care to read, along with lore for my warband

The Penitents of the Free states are made up of sinners captured within the free states of Prussia. Wondering if these are actual sinners or poor fools pulled off the street is heretical. Those that still see the light of God the Almighty are strongly encouraged to seek their penitence in the no man's land on long suicidal campaigns. They will fight until death, only then will their souls be judged anew, they seek baptism through bloodshed.

Battle Report 1: The Penitents marched to collect tithes from a wandering band of Infected Trench Pilgrims, and seek control of the no man's land. God had no mercy on the wretched penitents during this battle, we believe they may have lied about their true faith. Some Yeoman threw a satchel charge at their own lieutenant by accident, or heretical whispering. This decisive blow forced a complete retreat, one wounded shocktrooper perished in the cowardly withdrawal and needed replacement. The trench cleric reports “God was not with us, and we may only pray for his return”. Despite our Lieutenant suffering from the blast, they suffered no major scarring, and promptly executed the rest of our wounded. There will be more seeking penance on the path, but this battle led to a shaken morale, some wonder if there is even hope for redemption here.
>>
>>97345931
Battle Report 2: The Penitents were sent to reclaim Priceless Relics, not knowing those of the Iron Sultanite sought to capture them in the name of their religion. The battle between forces went remarkably well, God may have returned to us after all. Despite ending in a draw, the sound of distant whistles and chimes causing both sides to disengage, we left their troops with dark memories of the day they attempted to cross the true faith. We suffered minor wounds, and while we did not capture as many relics as our lord would have liked, we however learned from our mistakes and will be stronger another day. We explored the trenches and managed to claim a map that will aid further exploration attempts. Our Lieutenant and Cleric sharpened their blades and minds for the next battle.

So TW(TM) stuff is lumpy, ornate, & has a bunch if gemstones glued to it so it looks like a weird maguffin weapon for a cheap scifi/fantasy movie made in the 80's

Military TW stuff looks functional & has some gold trim, tasteful gemstones in places youd expect like chest & helm, that give it a nice look, or else they're all attached on the inside where you cant see.

There's a subset of "steam/diesel/oldschoolpunk" TWs who make restorations with alm the gemstones & stuff hidden behind panels like the military TW stuff.

Then theres all the specialty case TW stuff that is either alien or whatever

I was always fascinated by how this game seems to not just be unbalanced, but to actively reject the idea of balance between character options.

>Alright guys, let's start the campaign. Let me see those characters.
>I'm a basic bitch grunt with a rifle, a body armor and some military-related skills. I also took the Communications Technician package that trades some combat skills for techy ones like Electronic Countermeasures (Jamming) and Radio (Scramblers).
>I start with one of the most powerful suits of power armor in the game. Its starting gun is a shotgun-railgun that can fire up to 5 kilometers away and does enough damage to one-shot a Jumbo Jet 7 times over. Also the book explicitly says I'm hailed as a hero and settlements will give me free ammo and repairs.
>I'm a 12 ft tall birdman demigod. I can fly, I have superhuman stats across the board and more ISP and PPE than most dedicated caster classes, and I automatically know all physical, sensitivity and telephaty psychic powers and all fire warlock spells. Oh, I can also open rifts and self-resurrect.
>I'm a forger, I can forge fake documents with a base 20% success chance (+5% per level) but to compensate I can't take cybernetics.
>>
>>97344438
Kevin himself said something about it being a "challenge", same with playing a character with shit like IQ 3, though, in my days, most GMs just forbid people to pick those commoner classes anyway.

My players are heading to a notoriously seedy strip joint on Nar Shaddaa to make contact with a fixer for a joint smuggling and intel-grab job. I want to make the joint memorable for all the wrong reasons and give the players some opportunity to RP before their contact arrives.

What i know it will have so far:
>two old B2 super battle droids as door guards/bouncers
>nautolan bartender speaking in jamaican jive
>two mandos in full armor sitting in opposite corners and doing the "brooding edgelord" routine
>shemale gungan stripper

I feel i need more weird patrons for the joint so gimme your ideas for odd bar patrons.

Cont.

> Dac
It’s largely going to be fish, shellfish, and sea plants, but how it’s prepared will depend on who’s preparing it: if it’s Mon Calamari, then it’ll likely be grilled or fried. If it’s Quarren, then it’ll probably be boiled or served raw. Yes, Quarren do sushi and Mon Calamari do fish & chips.

> Gungan
Seafood and water plants, typically made into hardy stews or soups. During large gatherings these may be served out of bowls as big as speeders

>Hutt
Paradoxically The actual Hutt Cuisine travelers want to try is from middle and lower class Hutt communities. Hutt upperclass cuisine is really just bougie junk food. At lower social strata, Hutt cuisine tries to mix high-end spices and ingredients with filling soul food. So Hutt street food is just leagues superior to Hutt “fine dining”

> Kubaz
It’s bugs, but it’s not like their served live or anything, they’re still cooked and seasoned well so once you get over the initial shock of “ew bugs!” It’s fine… the real problem with Kubaz cuisine is the host who will invariably be both over nosey, and simultaneously will over share.

It ain't that deep. The many flavors of Spess Muhreens are just cool themes to make them stand apart and sell codicies. We have and entire chapter of mongolians, a whole chapter of vampires and even had a whole chapter of Africans. We have Knights Templar in both Crusades and Davinci Code flavors. We even have an Admech chapter. Space Wolves were the vikings, it stands to reason they should probably stay distinct in their themes and general look instead of just being Ultramarines that swapped laurels for pelts. But hey, I'll probably just continue to ignore it and the dindu heads can remain on the sprues

False. A well grounded historical and mythological understanding helps both world building and improvisation during ttrpg gameplay. A thing you would know if you actually played games instead of desperately refreshing your spambox.
>>
>>97343159
Give an actual example. Cause this topic only ever seems to involve squabbling over definitions and never discussing any actual games.
>>
>>97343159
For the counterfactuals. Where the history and mythology does not exist. And the rules must have clear descriptions separating game functions.

How, exactly, do you write rules for a Wizard doing the rather common COUNTERSPELLS under this prescribed meaning of "magic" that flagrantly ignores words being capable of having outright contradictory meanings? Because that game function strictly requires spells be a distinct thing that can be countered, in turn strictly requiring that they be put in a box away from all the non-spell game functions.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.

I'm very experienced in both FFG and GURPS, having run both for years.
DH2e aptitudes make a lot of sense for 40k. The fundamental of life in the Imperium is that your knowledge and training is restricted solely to your service to the Emperor.
Of all systems, DH2e has the biggest minefield for character creation since you can lose out on discounts on things you like. The vast majority of players will think their guys suck if they don't get the maximal discount on all their abilities, but by comparison the DH2e warbands have the exact same expenses as groups from other games.
DH2e experience is goal-oriented (by RAW, most GMs ignore everything on the book though), while GURPS is based on player awards for roleplaying. In FFG character progression is very impactful, including the open-ended Only War and DH2e. In GURPS the players have to make up in their minds their own doors and cross them. In FFG, Fate Points and their flexible uses are the best meta-currency I've seen. Also, your attack rolls influencing your damage roll is neat (what would be GURPS' MoS can be swapped for your damage roll if better).
All the rules in FFG are... serviceable. GURPS has the best combat system of all times so I can't really compare them. But sometimes you want to buy the Talent that makes your gun shoot harder, be so bigoted that you hit better in melee, and get a bonus to hit for charging, and rolling a 10 so you get exploding dice and utterly destroy the traitors. You won't have too many issues with it otherwise.

Do you understand what Print On Demand means? Do you understand that it is intended to create a proper book, and not just a text file vomited out onto a page like you pressed Ctrl-P on a forum?

>sentences and paragraphs broken across columns and pages even if there's enough space for them to not do so
>column headings awkwardly wrapped and oversized
That looks absolutely atrocious. I'm pretty sure I could feed a LaTeX rough into a random scientific journal format and get better results. Never attempt layout again.

The benefit of EPUB/HTML/XHTML is that you can manipulate it easily, without having to spend a zillion hours/dollars on laying it out in Adobe InDesign as SJ Games currently does. It's a "sane default" that can be tweaked easily if you really care about how it looks.
>B-but it looks ugly!
I disagree.

The previous PDF can be considered a large-print version for people with bad eyesight. Here's one with smaller print that's closer to how the official PDF looks. https://litter.catbox.moe/sguru1z1mwtigfnh.pdf
