>>97341833You can probably do this much faster using gimp with a mosaic filter, that way you can edit your maps directly
I don't use maps that have grids on them because of this.
>>97341474Find the highest common factor of the image width and height. This will be some multiple (usually 2x or 3x) of the grid size. If this doesn't work it usually means the image has been cropped or scaled weird
>>97341474I realized this but not on VTT. I've taken to going to the print shop to get big fullsize print outs of every map when we run modules or hardcover adventures only to find when "scaled corrrectly" occasionally over half the map (or more for picture in picture style maps) will be too small/too big. The artists are not paid to care and gridless only became a reality more recently for official 5e kek shit
>>97341942>This will be some multiple (usually 2x or 3x) of the grid size.I've noticed this is generally the solution. Most gridded maps you find online need to be Cell Sized up by 2x to fit on Roll20.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:>n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0>Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128>Need a starter dungeon? >>97338617>More than mechanics, more than plot, more than even what the DM wants, the most important thing about a Gygaxian setting is that it is Real.Lmao this delusional faggot.>A place where the players might take a look at a situation and go "Not yet. We're not ready." because they know that the dice fall where they may and the DM is just there to be a fair arbiter of what happens, not someone who is preparing the world to their whim.>It's a place where monsters and NPCs have their own motivations, instincts and goals beyond just "Get hit by the PCs until XP bursts out of our piñata bodies."You're really jerking yourself over nothing. Also, a DM that slavishly procedurally generates is following a whim to do so, cuz even Gygax said that's for fucking retards and not how rules are supposed to work and he himself didn't even follow his own rules while turning off his brain.DM's are supposed to be fair arbiters yeah. But you make it sound like they're supposed to braindead because you're so entrenched in villifying "plot" like anything more complicated than "here's random stuff, deal with it" is choo choo railroading.
>>97341916>More than mechanics, more than plot, more than even what the DM wants, the most important thing about a Gygaxian setting is that it is Real.Oh wow, that is a particularly dumb line.
Can you sum up for me what are the principles of OSR a DM should follow. It would be ideal if you gave me a brief explanation for each point. So far I got:>Player agencydont restrict your players choices, at all if possible, as little as possible if you need to>Emergent Storytellingprepare minimal story, let players decide what they do and how they do it>XP for goldreward exp for the gold the players carry out of the dungeon or otherwise obtain>Do the Book keepingkeep track of time and resources. Follow the procedures for encounters and such>Natural languageput your PCs in a situation, let players figure out how to get out of the situation, than have them explain to you how they want to solve it, you as the DM decide what mechanics to use

>>97341331it's all laughs until the non-combat character pulls out an autopistol, the cheapest full auto weapon in the game, and uses Suppressing Fire. Now your carefully crafted combat encounter runs into a brick wall because the Adept read the rules and realized full auto weapons can completely shut down an entire radius of enemies into cowering behind cover and steal half of their actions. He doesn't need to hit anyone, he doesn't need to deal a single wound of damage, he just needs spare mags (which his Noble background allowed him to buy in plentitudes) and he can turn the entire encounter into a joke that the rest of the Acolytes can mop up in a few turns.Or, god help you as the GM, the Adept cuts the bullshit and buys a Flamer...

I've spent the last year, studying, and designing a custom Arthurian set, originally intended to be based on Le Morte d'Arthur (like how P3k was based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms). However, as I continued to study, and look into different (and some obscure sources) this turned into a much more wider net. This set, which is no where near finished includes>Welsh Triads and The Magnibong>Pre-Vulgate Arthur traditions>Vulgate/Post Vulgate/Lancelot cycles>some English/Welsh fairy tales>and even a bit of the Victorian Arthurian revival (especially for art). I avoided the Italian and German romances entirely, and tried not to include weird outliners except when needed. Outside of art, nothing is sourced from the 20th century or onward. Also all art is public domain. I'm mainly posting here for feedback. Some will be art recommendations, flavor text (especially sourced) will be always welcomed.Comment too long. >>97340848Good first effort. The placement of the beams looks kind of random, and for your next building I think you should try to emulate historical designs more closely. The Youtube channel Devs and Dice makes great scratchbuilt Mordheim terrain that is easy to copy or use for inspiration. The only downer about his designs is that he uses a ton of individually cut foam bricks that require investment in a foam cutter to emulate properly.
>>97340934Yeah, there's plenty to learn still. I had actually not intended to start this yesterday but I got carried away so I wasn't following any specific design or aesthetic principles. What is the counterculture of 2020s, that could be used as the basis for a contemporary countercultural tabletop game?Take the World of Darkness for example, which was so grounded in the the counterculture of the 90s that it comes across as dated and strange today. How would you update the World of Darkness so that it better represents the counterculture of today?Nightmare Mode: Talk about more than just politics. There's more to rebellion against the status quo and the prevailing social norm than who you vote for.
So the actual counter culture is... working for the man? Being part of the system?
>>97322686Sorry anon, it's trans antifa

The problem is that there is an actual group of people who have their own subculture based around personal expression and the government wants to wipe them out. Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). >>97339545Beyond the sex pervert elements of the designs and some overal with color schemes, I don't really see much resemblance to slaanesh stuff. Slaanesh aesthetics weren't a source of inspiration for me in the first place, if anything out of 40k, the stuff I drew aesthetic pointers from were tyranid guns for pretty obvious reasons. The general design process for the look of the sisterhood was generally just driven by my attempt to come up with an interesting look for a biotech fertility cult that would make sense in universe. The sex pervert elements in the aesthetics of the sisterhood are intentional, given their beliefs and role within the setting. Some of my older designs for them were already treading similar ground though the look was less refined and more ugly mostly because I was terrible at drawing women back when I drew this.
>>97339615I do enjoy armor-of-the-many-boob with her pelvic-octopus-whip.It's... horny.
>>97339745The idea with the Aphorine devotees is that they are essentially biochemical warfare specialists. Their augmentation has turned their bodies into living cauldrons for production of potent chemical concoctions, drugs and hormones they can use to either subdue, beguile or just outright kill their victims. Basically, they are akin to living censers that in combat, emit a cloud of mind altering vapors. Just getting too close to them without rebreathers may be dangerous and even rebreather aparatuses may not help because many of the chemicals the aphorine devotees can unleahs are skin permiable. The octopus like "caressid" symbiote plays a vital part in this process as can use the basal compounds produced by the augments of the aphorine and catalyze them into even more potent chemicals and toxins and transfuse them into it's stinging tentacle whip, allowing the Aphorine to basically deliver lashes laced with whatever mixture of drugs, toxins or hormones they desire to inflict on their victims.
