Lets talk about what makes a player or GM truly great? Is it how a player makes their character, roleplay at the table, a GM who is very descriptive, etc.
Or we can share stories about really good players or GMs we met at our own tables.

Oh no. I can feel you here very well. :(
I still believe some of these cases can be engaged enough to do at least something (trust me, I tried my best here ... and almost typed "tried" as "tired"). But for an entire group that sounds like playing on nightmare mode ...
>>
>>97337743
Worst is I don't think they were always like that. It's as if something shut off in all of them as we moved from one arc to the next. It's perplexing, because they are the group with the best attendance record I have ever had. Yet their passivity was enough to make a friend of mine who joined on bow out, since there's only so much a single person can do to ensure the entire party isn't gawking (metaphorically) at the GM silently for a solid minute when an NPC is speaking with them, or being presented with a situation that doesn't have an obvious thing to punch.

Speaking as a perma-GM I’ll just do players
>Can pay attention for several hours at a time and remember things not just from today but from weeks/months in the past in reasonable detail
>Possesses critical thinking skills and a basic level understanding on how things work in reality (they don’t need to know the fictional stuff, that can come later, but you should know things like “water flows downwards”, “smoke will fill a room if there is no opening for it to escape”, etc.)
>Has curiosity and asks questions about the things they encounter in the game. I swear there’s little worse as a GM than to present something, and just be met with dumb silence
>Sucks for autistic people but it really helps if you’re able to read the tone of conversations, the situation, as well as the room of players itself
>Is not a narcissist
>Hygiene and manners when in another person’s house.

>>97336368
> not politically brainrotted
Unfortunately a huge problem in current year. I do not care to seethe about what trump tweeted nor about gay people I am here to have joy when you find the safe key I placed taped under the toilet tank’s lid

Same actually, I went in hoping to get some cards for a Mihawk deck, but I only got like two.
>>
>>97343710
Isnt mihawk pricy?
>>
>>97343783
I think it's like $150, which is pretty pricey, but less so than decks like Ace, Boa, or Roger.
>>
>>97343234
I'm not a fan of it. When I played, every deck basically did the same thing. According to people who have been playing a long time, the game used to be much more varied but it seems like Bushiroad can't design and sustain a card game to save their life.

I really liked Buddyfight a lot but towards the end of its life the powercreep was insane.

Nah they suck so badly. I hate nuDemon the most because it should have been called Matrix or made into a technomancer splat as it has no theme that makes it demonic enough. Demon the Fallen is amazing and should be ported to the nWoD instead.
Hunter the Vigil, Vampire and Geist are the better games. Also Promethean even if its clunky to play with other splats.
>>97340746
Why be a Wraith when you can be a Geist? It has all the upsides without the downsides.
>>
>>97342940
Funnily enough, it was originally Mage only until a backer who purchased a word count reward and asked for Werewolf stuff, because Mage loves hogging Eras that are better for other splats. I'm looking at you, Golden Age of Piracy.

This isn't Mage's fault, but the fanbases, but we missed out on a Gilgamesh Era for King Arthur because the Mage fans gaslit themselves into thinking it'd be Merlin's pre-ascension Camelot instead of post-ascension.

Looks like a higher tech khador man o'war, which is presumably what it is

I don't mind how the new Mk4 models look, but neglecting core factions like Cryx, Menoth, Skorne and Circle for stuff like trollkin pirates kinda killed a lot of the potential hype they could have gotten
>>
>>97332225
The Mk4 lore isn't even that bad, what little there is of it. The main Mk4 rulebook is pretty anemic on lore compared to previous corebooks and there's next to zero character driven narrative posted anywhere outside of small story blurbs on their blog.

It sucks because they actually DID make a pretty great character agnostic setting with good worldbuilding with Warcaster, which got an entire hardcover book just for lore.

Mk4 Warmachine so far is:
>it's 7-ish years after the battle of Henge Hold
>Everyone has advanced in technology, Cygnar is much more tolerant of Cyriss and other religious minorities, which leads to even greater advancements in tech and magic
>The Orgoth suddenly return, having learned their lesson and made their own warjacks and blackpowder weapons. They take a big portion of Khador's coastline, a bit of Ord and an island from Cygnar
>Everyone rushes to defeat them, Cryx included

That's it. That's all that has happened in the 2-3 years since they relaunched Mk4. There aren't any boots on the ground perspectives or any character stories, it's just a wikipedia entry for the most part.

>>97332398
They DO still exist, but the original Protectorate is a shell of itself. Instead, the good guys from the faction left with Tristan (an actual lawful good paladin) to Zu, and are likely to return.
>>
>>97343812
They have kept releasing armies, but Mk4 armies are small. Like theme forces back in the day, but not optional and you can't use models between them even if they're both Cygnar, for example.

The problem is that they had to have their arms twisted to release Cryx at all, and other core factions like Menoth are only now going to get their first armies this Summer where Trollkin, Khador and Cygnar are already up to 2 separate forces.
>>
>>97344010
No, the kickstarters for Warcaster did quite well but PP was severely in the red even then, those kickstarters were all that kept the company going for several years until they flubbed the Mk4 relaunch and officially ran out of funding.
>>
>>97343812
Pretty grim relaunch.

How do I recapture the vibes of this game in my West Marches campaign?
>>
>>97344106
Literally can't, as Ico depends on visuals, music, and clunky controls to create its vibes.
>>
Sure, go for it.
>>
>>97344211
>clunky controls

hard disagree.

>>

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but reading is the main way one learns games, it's kind of important, actually. If reading is so tough for you, you might want to reconsider your choice of hobby.
>>
>>97343759
RPGs are notoriously badly written, distilling information from them is a very time consuming act and i am grateful that i do not need to do it every single time.
i also disagree that reading is the way to learn tehm, because playing it is how you actually get a feel for the game. something that only reading will not instill into you.

I went with a more Spartan cooking honestly. Which in ancient times was described as being something non-Spartans considered traumatizingly awful, but Spartans themselves loved. Tasting History recreated one such Spartan stew and described it as bland with a metallic aftertaste if I remember correctly.

The spin of New Mando cooking was to marry the Spartan-style cooking with what Galaxy’s edge considered mando cooking. And frankly it just felt right, I can imagine that with the new pacifist philosophy, traditional tests of courage and strength would be seen as taboo, so a more “socially acceptable” way to prove oneself might just be seeing how spicy of food you can handle before tapping out.

>>
>>97343023
>>97343899
>>97344038
My take would be that Mandos have three style of cuisine
>old-school cooking
older nordic/slavic-esque with influences of self-sufficient homestead cooking. Using all parts of animals/fish for stuff like bloodfood, bone broths, pickled fish, lots of hearty soups/stews. Big shared meals for important occasions like births. Lots of salt and acquired flavors that would weird out people who didn't grow up with it.
>field/deployment cooking
mix of MRE/nutricubes plus whatever you can trap and cook in a way that doesn't give way your position.
>new-school cooking
lots of fusion cooking blending different cultures into a melting pot of flavors. Some of the old style still hangs around but is supplemented with a lot of non-traditional ingredients and side dishes

Or to break it down into easier concept, a christmas dinner example:
>old style: smördgåsbord of 3-4 various styles of pickled herring, crisp bread, eggs with salted roe, salted fish and cold-cut meats, mustard-glazed ham or slow-cooked frozen moose roast and rice porridge
>field: turkey MRE and beaver meat prepared in a smoke-diffused cooking pit
>new style: smördgåsbord of a wild variety of pickled herring, sushi rolls, eggs with salted roe, deep-fried banana bread, cold-cut meats, turkey roast
>>
>>97343023
IIRC Wookiee food is mentioned to often be spicy as hell, to the point of potentially causing damage to the human digestive system, because they have a far higher tolerance of spiciness than humans (or possibly are unaffected by some spices entirely, like how capsaicin has no effect on birds because they lack the specific taste receptors it affects).
>>
>>97344057
I bet some scummy Corporate Sector MedTech company would experiment with drugs to keep geonosian larvae from outgrowing their larvae stage. Or some dark jedi/inquisitor would meddle with sith alchemy and make chrysalid version of geonosian larvae
