Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.
Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.

They do state you can limit it to more than than 3 Power on a roll, under the section in the GM part about ways to balance challenge.
They also frequently discuss that you can't just apply any board tag you want, those may/frequently do require set-up actions before they can be used. So your "might wizard" tag may not let you just nuke some guys, you may very well need to first role to get the right spell ready. Similar things can apply for knowledges or other skills.
Seems like you didn't really read the system, just spent 10 minutes looking for stuff to not like? It's OK to have criticisms and think it's trash that's fine, but it doesn't feel like you put any effort into actually reading the pdf

Sharing useful wisdom that has helped me run more satisfying games. Trying to share some less common advice. These are my opinions and techniques that have helped me. I’d love to hear what has worked for other /tg/ DMs.

1. Time pressure- adding time pressure through use of "clocks" including real life clocks is incredibly helpful to add pressure and tension to a scenario. Giving players choices but not enough time to make every choice adds meaning to those choices. Time pressure in combat is a contentious, but powerful tool to discuss with your players. Forcing a decision in seconds makes combat stressful and - when players are on board- fun (in anticipation of the common objection: if the players don’t make a choice in combat, I usually come back to them before round end, I never have them “just stand there”. Remember to assume character competency).

2- The GM-ing engine- It's okay to front load content and prepare a few different rail-roady hooks in the first few sessions. Being a GM is like starting one of those old prop engines with a winch. It takes a while for the pistons (players) to kick into gear. Once they do, after a few sessions, all you need to do is apply gas. Solve the tavern problem by figuring out how characters know each other prior to the first session.

3- Immersion means impact- After a session, reflect on how the player choices affected the world (for good or ill), try to let the ripple of that effect emerge in the next session. Players that feel like they change the world around them invest in it.

In picrel top two MTG diagrams, you can see that each of the 5 colors is composed of 2 base concepts, which are then arranged on a spectrum wheel. These concepts are what define the mechanics belonging to a particular color identity. This is a sort of top down approach, letting the concept inform the mechanics.

In Frenopolis, each color is also composed of 2, but they're not concepts, they're Elements which correspond to card types and board zone mappings. The mechanics inform the concept. This is a bottom up approach. The Frenopolis color pie is strictly defined in terms of the game board itself. Color identity cannot be broken.

I've spent the last year, studying, and designing a custom Arthurian set, originally intended to be based on Le Morte d'Arthur (like how P3k was based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms).

However, as I continued to study, and look into different (and some obscure sources) this turned into a much more wider net.

This set, which is no where near finished includes

>Pre-Vulgate Arthur traditions
>Vulgate/Post Vulgate/Lancelot cycles
>some English/Welsh fairy tales
>and even a bit of the Victorian Arthurian revival (especially for art).

I avoided the Italian and German romances entirely, and tried not to include weird outliners except when needed. Outside of art, nothing is sourced from the 20th century or onward. Also all art is public domain.

I'm mainly posting here for feedback. Some will be art recommendations, flavor text (especially sourced) will be always welcomed.

Unlikely. Based on late renaissance and early modernism so there's a lot of shifting monarchies, feudalism, city states, mercantilism and attempts at other models based on theological schisms with the not!pope like Breakers and Levelers. Plus what the Occident, Orient, Savage Lands and the New World are up to. In game variety wise this mostly plays out as different orientations of towns on the hex map and random encounters. Some of the more isolated areas end up being town councils by default with occasional interruptions by larger powers. The players haven't really struck out for any particular faction yet but having their allegiances and reputation preceding them will be more of a thing as the campaign progresses.

It might help to know how you plan for him to be changed mentally. Ideally (imo) the changes would be related somehow and reinforce each other. IE, he starts getting super paranoid or hyper aware of certain things, and now he also gets an ache in his joints whenever he's around certain sorts of magic or something.

Eye color changes are also an easy one and can be very simple to make thematic.

The "breathable" part is a bit weird since it is hard to imagine an automaton "choking" from something like Toxic Cloud/Cloudkill. While it does resolve the "can a robot drown?" question pretty easily, other sources of suffocation might require some questioning, even if you don't care for PF2e cheaping out on the Warforged ideal.

It does make me wonder if G&G was released today, would they make something like "Basic Construct Benefits" so that there's a reasonable way of handling such? And how would things like Poppets, which are far more "alive" than automatons would live.

Whenever CARDNAME is targeted by a spell for the first time during a turn, counter that spell and add X charge counters to it where X is the converted mana cost of the spell cast.

T: Add {X} where X is the number of charge counters on CARDNAME. Remove all charge counters from CARDNAME.

If CARDNAME has 20 or more charge counters, it deals 10 damage to each player and creature. Sacrifice CARDNAME.

Diplomacy is my best guess, with something like Mario Party coming in second. We know from canon sources (SotM and Yu Shan iirc) that it has turns, and that you can make individual moves within turns, and that someone else can be make your moves/turns for you if you give them over and it's possible to have that matter.

There are some other relevant things to the setting as a whole that you can do, they're just usually harder for the relevant specialties to do than Craft making artifacts. Like, a sorcerer or thaumaturge making and publishing a new spell/ritual that solves some big problem the world is facing when it's used at scale is absolutely contributing. Those people who invented Summoning of the Harvest, Water From Stone, Infallible Messenger, Hero's Recovery, warding, how to geomantically bless places against pests and disease, and so on absolutely did a deed that changed how things work in Exalted on a wide scale. Without those kinds of spells being around the North and South would've been way more fucked than they are, the speed of word of mouth would be way worse, people would be diseased as hell and smell like shit, and there'd be much fewer potential miracles just around the corner for everyone in Creation.

I'm working on an alchemist class and I'm curious:

1. Would you find it more interesting if there were (1) escalating versions of alchemist's fire, dealing 2d6, 3d6, 4d6, etc. or (2) escalating damage items with escalating prices / craft DCs, but they did different damage types instead, or (3) both? Basically if you played an alchemist it'd be like bombs from Pathfinder, except you actually crafted them, but instead of always dealing fire damage, it'd be a set-in-stone thing that the 2d6 ones did, say, electricty, the 3d6 ones did cold, the 4d6 ones did half-fire-half-acid, or something like that.

2. How overpowered would it be for a 15th level character to be able to create potions of spells with a range of personal? They also would be able to make potions of spells level 1 to 9, from a limited number of spells "known" for the purposes of making potions out of them. But this would allow them to make potions of any personal-range spell they chose to learn. How broken would this be?

Rolled a dread wraith from PF1 as a random encounter for a night time mission PCs are planning to take.
Trying to decide how start it off and how to fight

Wraith is smart and bloodthirsty: like 1 except rather than hide it flies up above the group, uses its Sense Motive 23 and Spot 23 to id the weakest members of the group and than proceeds to spring attack going for the weakest, trying to generate more spawn

Wraith is confident and doesn't bother hiding in ambush because its the scariest thing in the area and it got no one to hide from and none can outrun it, so it hunts in the open. Comes at them fast, does spring attack from the air.

wraith is cocky, like 3 except it doesn't try go for the weakest first, goes at random to spread the misery around

wraith is confident but lazy, like 3 but goes after mounts first because it doesn't want the party to try and separate and run

nta, but the core difference in leveling up in d&d vs real life is permanence. In d&d the skills and attributes you get at level up are permanent and stay with you even if you never use them again.
in real life everything degrades rather quickly and its a constant race to keep up which everyone loses with old age.

picked up a chaos rhino off of ebay for my SoH, but I think I'll treat myself and build a malcador for my traitor militia instead and use the chaos vehicle sprue from the rhino to trick it out
