How would I set that up? My first thought is to just dump all the stuff in a separate MM game then set the winner to enter on the appropriate turn. But how would I get damage to carry over?
>>
>>97252918
IIRC Germanium is one of the rare earth elements (which, despite the name, aren't actually all that rare, but normally found in such tiny concentrations that it's rare for them to form ore deposits), in which case you'd be looking for highly derived magmatic rocks (basically the very last rocks that crystallized in a large magma chamber) or certain kinds of volcanogenic hydrothermal deposits. Most REEs stick to the molten phase of rock for as long as possible, so they tend to get more concentrated in the remaining fluid as crystallization progresses. And in most cases the magma will cool down too quickly to allow for a high REE-concentration phase to separate.
>>
>>97252956
To carry over damage use the mul file generated at the end of the air battle. Next import the units to the lobby of the main game substituting the original fighters with survivors and the appropriate delay. Alternatively you can run both the ground battle and air battle at the same time in 2 instances of megamek and when the air battle is done use the [reinforce from mul file] option to import the surviving fighters to the side that won, or even give both sides their surviving fighters if the air battle was inclusive.

You make a good point. A mercenary is an employee whereas a privateer is a licensee.
Additionally, mercenaries are “foreigners” relative to the conflicts in which they fight. By contrast, privateers are subjects of the sovereign from whom they obtain their letters of marque.
Wolf’s Dragoons, for example, could never make it as privateers, lacking the requisite patriotism.
>>
>>97252905
>>97252867
I was talking with someone about this the other day and we concluded the germanium for the first jump core probably came from asteroids because it's way easier to get at.

The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.

I've never played with a GM that would do this (nor am I one), and I don't run gay ass D&D anyway with its homo paladins, so it's really not a problem. Sorry that happened to you in your game that you surely play, though, rather than just spamming a fake story from reddit or youtube or tumblr or wherever.

If it was annoying and rather twerpy of Spec Ops the Line to do it, then it'd be even more annoying and morally grandstanding of a DM to do this shit to their players if in order to get this scenario, they have to essentially lie to the players just to emotionally manipulate them into feeling bad for acting upon incomplete or flatout wrong information their DM gave them.

A a paladin isn't batman. Just because he fights with honor and cares for the good of all non-demonic souls doesn't mean he has to make stupid decisions strategically just to go soft on someone doing evil things but is actually le nice guy. In fact, a paladin won't even take prisoners if it's not feasible. Best I can do is you're all hogtied to trees in the safest spot of the city if I didn't already disembowl you while you were TRYING TO FUCKING RAID A CITY.

Now the governor will decide your fate, and the death penality is a moral and legal option.

The beastkin proudly wore the sigil of Slaanesh , its blasphemous rune a garish eyesore. A golden mask sealed her face, obscene in its craftsmanship: female features arrested at the apex of indulgence, lips parted in rapture, eyes cast back as if drowning in sensation. The helm caught the light and threw it back in soft, corrupt gleams. A perfume clung to her, cloying and overripe; an absurd fragrance to crown such a hulking, malformed brute. My eyes strayed to the whip in her hand, and I knew that pain would soon join me in my misery.

You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor.

Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.

Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.

My experience is that it's usually
1.) underestimating how stupid players are
2.) forgetting that the dice can just go 'uh-ho, stinky!' for an entire encounter and that this isn't even statistically very anomalous
>>
>>97250948
Damn I haven't DM'd in a long time, has the community really become so lame that even a tactical retreat is a faux pas? When the fuck did trpgs go from being a careful dungeon crawl with death aeound every corner that required you to maximize your characters attack stragey, to some lame jerk off session that's more about *feels* and epic scenes than it is crunching numbers and trying to get out alive? Has the gaming community really become so lame?
>>
>>97252729
If you don't care then it should be no problem for my character to leave your imbecilic ass to die?
>>
>>97253452
Nah, there's a big difference in going "Let's get to a more tactically advantageous position" and "Let's cheese every encounter unless I have an overwhelming advantage". The latter is just a waste of people's time, particularly if the one trying to cheese encounters them complains about not being able to level up or get good loot.
>>
>>97253472
Actually, there is no difference. Either you're playing to your advantage or you aren't.

Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

While I do not know of a reliable way of finding them I could offer some potential way of trapping them. I assume iron would work in a similar manner to silver's effect on werewolves. Iron restraints would be a good starting point, from there I would suggest getting a holy artifact or someone who's well-versed in holy rituals. Your safest best is combining everything and getting a real miracle worker involved (yes, they exist). If you ever capture such demon I could recommend some proven interrogation methods.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

Presumably the exact age would be cultural, like it is with humans (there really isn't any specific biological reason why it's not OK to have sex with a 17 years old but it is OK with an 18 years old, 18 just happens to be the number we've decided on as being old enough to have the necessary mental and physical development to definitely count as an adult). Probably whatever age they reach sexual maturity plus a year or two to make sure.
>>
Some aliens may reproduce by having pollen spread that fertilizes whoever it touches rather than copulation, consent probably isn't done the same way with such aliens.
>>
>>97251832
I'm so sick of this "muh 4 limbs is most optimal" line of argument. Our number of limbs has NOTHING to do with some sort of biological optimum. Our number of limbs stems from our evolutionary history from how our bodies develop during the embryonic stage. If there was some sort of evolutionary pressure towards small limb counts we wouldn't see arthropods with limbs numbering from 6 all the way to over a thousand depending on the clade and the species.

The reason landbound vertabrates have 4 lims is because we evolved from a 4 limbed ancestors, and the way our bodies develop makes it very, very hard for extra limbs to be cleanly added to our form. That is because the bodysegments/tagma in chordates are heavily fused, including our limb producing segments, thus essentially in order to produce new limbs you'd need a series of mutations that solely duplicate the parts of the genome responsible for limb development, in a way that these extra limbs still cleanly connect and join the rest of the bodyplan.

In comparison, something like a centipede, whose bodyplan retains entirely unfused limb producing bodysegments, can just replicate those segments as they grow in size without any issues, as if they were just adding identical beads to a rosary string. Whereas for vertabrates, if we use similar comparison, the parts of our bodies from which our limbs grow out out, are all tangled up in the same body segments that also develop our internal organs and shit. Essentially, our torsos are a product of multiple bodysegments fusing together in our early evolutioary history, leading to the 4 limb configuration.
Same process is why insects have just 6 limbs, or why spiders have only 8 limbs and so on. Once body segment fusion happens it is very hard for evolution to untangle it.

maps and mapmaking. more specifically, there's something that's been bothering me for a while now. There are endless skirmish-scale settlement-scale and topographic-scale square grid mapmaking tools online, and that's great.
There's plenty of topography-scale hexgrid mapmakers too, presumably because of D&D's ancient use of hexgrids for overland travel. and that's great too.
There arent many hexmakers ive found for settlement scale maps, but i've had some luck torturing them out of the battletech mapmaker in the megamek software, or other videogames that generously offer to print the output
but
for the life of me i cannot find a decent skirmish-scale hexgrid mapmaker. i must have tried a dozen programs by now, but the ones that offer hexgrids are either borderline unuseable or just put a hexagonal overlay over a square grid. it's ridiculous that after decades of computer tools for TTRPGS the best i've found is GIMP where i have to draw the damn things by hand. Not to mention the endless enshitification of google makes it harder and harder to find niche programs to match what i need.

what are you anons using to create your maps?
do you know of any decent skirmish-scale hexmappers (that are free, or at least worth the price)?
what do you think of maps in general, do you even use them?

i'll share any spare maps i have within the size limit to get the ball rolling

excluding single rooms and redundant loops, this entire map is reductively a single straight line with maybe one branching path
>jayquasing
there are two enterences (main door and brooken roof of the den) but otherwise...
no elevation changes, sub-levels, branching paths, loop-backs, sub-spaces or warps, sub-dungeons, midpoint entries or hidden paths. it relies entirely... on dynamism.

>some bandits have been operating out of this ruined structure (based in the den, which they have sealed)
>it is actually an undead settlement, who they are exploiting to defend their base
>the inner ring cannot be accessed without taking the key from the guardian in it's chamber
>the undead if alerted by themselves or the bandits will rally their full force (barring those locked in the inner ring), leading to an unwinnable fight and forced retreat from the hideout

There's a free version. I used free for years before I decided I was getting enough out of it, every week, to start paying for it. The free version is good. The paid version is better.

I was just curious whether you understood that the tool you're asking for already exists. Inkarnate has been pretty good for about 10 years.

Yeah it's got free draw, hex versions, lots of textures and brushes... it's good. There's a reason it's most of the maps you see on /tg/.

I have wanted to play RPGs for years and posted on /tg/ for like a decade, but have never found someone to play with. Finally my kids are old enough to play with me, but the problem is, I don't know HOW to play. Like, what is a game supposed to even look like?
All the rulebooks I've read go over in depth the character creation and mechanics, etc. but none really paint a picture of the structure and flow of the game and what it is supposed to look like.

Where do I start??

>>
>>97253357
Pros: ascending AC, more streamlined, officially free, modular (there are lots of plug and play rules available), no races as classes.

Cons: math is somewhat different from b/x (the one thing i remember is, for example, the cleric attack bonus progression is mismatched frok b/x) so you can't automatically translate b/x modules, or to be more precise you can if you don't give a shit and just eyeball everything.

What's the /tg/ consensus on Dragonbane? Looks like a neater, faster 5e clone with not as much bloat in it, which is exactly what i'm looking for.

I like a lot of the pieces from reading the book, but it's not interesting enough for me to actually use it in its entirety.

>no no it's totally different bro you see this time you want the small number instead of the big number
Kek, not classless btw.

I admit i didn't check it out extensively (because a nth generic fantasy game doesn't suit my needs) and i can misremember stuff but i'm pretty sure "classes" in dragonbane are akin to brp professions (as in templates of abilities) you can safely rearrange as you like. Also if all it takes to you for a game being 5e is having a d20 then even modiphius Conan must be a 5e clone.

Yes, but he didn't "hide his emotions" as much as he talked her around and she willingly lowered her guard before he sucker punched her.

The point of that scene wasn't "hiding from the force" as much as she had no real idea how to fight outside the constraints of lightsaber combat and approached every fight with a lightsaber as a duel. The idea that she could treat it like a brawl was foreign to her.

actually I think it works better and expains how they were so quick to get TK troopers out the door, plus at the time project war-mantle was kept secret from the public and senate
correct me if i'm wrong, but you never saw TK troopers in a "public" setting (e.g local garrison in S3 E4) until after the military recuitment bill is voted for in S2?

the real issue is the vader comic burning seas arc, and the timeline placement of tales of the underworld
so the only logical conclusion I can make of it, because it's a mess, is both designs were made before we got the finalized design/stormtrooper armour won out

>>97253355
I forgot about the desix episode having TK troopers
so the answer is "I don't know", maybe TK troopers were meant to be more elite than stormtroopers hence the commando training and placement at facilities like tantiss, but got mixed in with the stormtrooper corps once the military recruitment bill got passed

unfortunately this is just me making shit up to try and explain a mess of lore, I hope they clarify it

The point of the training was to give her a paradigm outside of Jedi Academy formalized dueling or adjacent to it, which was something her brother actually had.

Each of the authors in the LOTF series had their own little spin off. One author was writing about Antilles' family and the other...someone else, which was so forgettable I can't remember.

I love armored women in scars so much, it's unreal. I hope she is not femlet.
