Necromancy Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/Comment too long. >>97360201Anon, I'm so sorry the longer I look. The worse this army looks. No offense. >War Prophet You need to ensure this model is a bit heavier. Invest in at least standard armor. You should be running the Anti-Tank Hammer. >CastigatorThe way you're running them is wasted. Give them a Punt Gun and some armor as well. The Shrine doesn't need the Punt Gun. Also try to get some armor.>ShrinesLimited yourself to one. You're starting your warband. You can ALWAYS buy another down the road. Trench Pilgrims aren't to be slept on with their Anti-Fear mechanics on their Iron Capirote. Just give them some bolt action rifles and some Bayonets.Think of it as you building up the board to get your second Shrine.
>>97360251may I get a rating>>97358809
>>97358809As I said the other Army list, Sniper Priest with a Machine Gun is utterly superior in every way. It may not allow you to pin an enemy down across the map but with your current build you have enough models to hold them in place. Getting another Machinegun in the list or- rather your first one will make a pretty big difference. >Grenades I don't know who the fuck hurt you but not every single model needs a grenade, you will be lucky if you throw two in a game. Three max if your enemy is really unlucky or just not playing well. Try to remove some of them, see how much Ducats you have left to try and invest into more Yeoman. You have a musician. That's great, don't know what that Frag Grenade is gonna do for them in combat. Give them a pistol or something. You don't want a sitting duck. Other than that the list seems solid. Just ensure your LT isn't too battle-damaged from engagements or you might need to retire them.
>>97360303>I don't know who the fuck hurt you but not every single model needs a grenade, you will be lucky if you throw two in a game. >>97360520>They're too much of a staple of the genre to just dismiss as a bunch of rowdy monsters to beat up.No, they're not. There's just not enough material to work with, the concept itself makes them impossible to work with. They should just be monsters, a threat to be slain, not playable, not sympathetic. The insistence that anthropomorphic wolf people should be playable makes me think that furfaggotry is involved.

I'm working on a journey system with a few specific goals. One of which is to hone down on events that can happen to parties during a journey which - ideally - present the players with interesting problems to solve.Working document is here if you'd like to peruse: https://files.catbox.moe/7hfxya.pdf I'm curious if any experienced GMs have ideas on interesting journey complications (both positive and negative) that- ideally- might allow for opportunities for players to problem solve?Picrel is the list I've got right now (very basic)
>>97360406So what’s your process here? Do you prepare this content in advance or on the fly? Let’s explore the homeless example. I’m guessing you don’t railroad the players into being at a specific gas station, so you improvise this homeless guy on the fly right? He makes sense in the context of the environment. I’m just curious how much of this you prepare in advance.>>97360438Yeah, I guess I have the same question.>>97360442I think he’s saying the way that the content exists in the world (improvised; randomly generated, pre planned, or some combination) looks functionally identical to the player at the table as long as it makes sense in the context of the environment, right?
>>97360485It doesn't matter how it looks to the players. Total perfect simulation is the correct method, and no other shall be permitted.
>>97360489That’s the dream. So are you creating and simulating every aspect of your world prior to introducing your players to it? Do you improvise most of it?
>>97360172I'm not able to post the full thing and would probably be embarrassed to do so. I think having a set idea of the roster would be great. That's my bias, though.Basic idea of the system is it takes about an hour to walk 3 miles so that's used as the baseline. Meadows, fields, etc. Distance is halved or even brought down to 1/3rd depending on how difficult the terrain is. Phrased differently, difficult terrain may have 1 environmental hazard every x hours. The more that they run into, the less likely there will be another, the longer without the more likely there will be one. Represented by starting on a d10 and ratcheting lower down to a d4 for more likely or going up to a d20 for less likely. Like yours, it was on a 1. Simple stat rolls to overcome an obstacle. Failing just meant they were more tired.Similarly, enemy density is rolled by expected resistance. Whether that is every mile or every 3 is dependent on the territory. From what I remember, there were different bands of territory with heavy presence and longer stretches with no one (1d4 vs 1d20 rolls), but the danger came from exhaustion.Every fight or obstacle would cost 1 exhaustion, which every 5 HP the PC has, they gain 1 additional exhaustion. When they run out of exhaustion, they lose -1 to stat rolls until a long rest in a safe place. YMMV. Enemies were less important than simple stat rolls that would cause exhaustion loss if failed, but it also meant the 'fighter' types actually had a built-in mechanical advantage to endurance. Having to choose between the potential for many combat encounters along a contested road with the guarantee of a friendly camp or taking the long way and showing up weaker for a fight was a fun debate to watch. I think it added to the game.
>>97360489Except that higher powers put the hobo there on random chance rather than the hobo having any agency because he's not a real person but actually an obstacle.

A question about readying actions. Can you add an>orTo the trigger. For example last session my cleric said he would use radiance of the dawn either when all the enemies were within range or at initiative 1. Can you add triggers? How many can you add because it could get silly? If you don’t use it on a trigger so you miss your chance?
>>97360228That's a DM call. Personally, I wouldn't allow it unless a player made a strong case for why they're really two versions of the same trigger.>or at initiative 1Well, that's flatly against the rules, which state that it must be a "perceivable circumstance". Player characters can't perceive the initiative count.

Should an elven wizard be more powerful on average than a human one? Explain your answer.
>>97360182Yes? What about them?
>>97356728I thought that was generally understood. Most systems and book series go through various answers but normally elves make better wizards overall. Either the elves have an extra century or two to learn and master their craft, or they are some inherently magical species that is just plain better by birth. It's all the same in the end. Humanity's strength is always in numbers. They are not the best at anything but they are more populous. They are the smart horde species while orcs, goblins and everything else that wins wars through wave tactics are complete savages. Humans are the mostly intelligent wave tactic savages that can be kind of not shit at things.
>>97356728No, because the person who commissioned that art is a faggot.

Have we done anything with John Browning yet? I've been discussing gun designs with a friend, and the subject of Browning came up with him getting started in this exact period. Of course, most of his more famous designs, the 1911, Hi-Power, .50 M2, etc. are from later, but he was still designing and making several firearms before the turn of the century. And we've nudged the development period of certain designs before, with the Maxim I believe.I'm just divided on whether to keep him pretty normal with a blank cheque from the government post-Paraguay, or work in something Hyperborean. He'd basically be a saint up there with everything he's made/going to make. Alternately, I thought about somebody finding a 1911 or something on the battlefields of Paraguay and it makes its way into his hands (2000 Psychic Wars!)
>>97360094We haven't done enough with the Paraguayan War in general. The Second Oriental Crisis got a massive point by point description, and the Fall of Paris and the survival of the city also has a ton of lore. Compared to them, Paraguay has very little.

>gameplayFor Centaurs, you should be able to use them as mounts when not in combat if they're lightly armed & armored. I think you could ride into battle with them and fight on their back without overburdening them, depending on your loadout. Squeezing into dungeons and caves might be a bit of a bitch, and your centaur companion may find themselves too cumbersome to accompany you in certain locations. If people in wheelchairs can make do, I'm sure a transmog potion or a shrinking potion might solve the problem.>fantasy settingsThey're more at home here for sure, like having a horse. Some taverns may give you a hard "no" for your centaur companion, but I'm sure regions that are steeped in centaur culture or adjacent ones have accommodations for their unique anatomy. If nothing else, they could help carry your camp supplies and other provisions. >loadouts for fantasyIf you're not riding them, I think they can be pretty well armed and armored- think tower shield and a mace/flail. They also make good spearmen, so I think they'd be comfortable wielding a halbard and similar pike-style weapons. This would be with them wearing plate mail cuirass for the human portion and chainmail curtain over their horse hind quarters, or perhaps some specially fitted Gambeson. Other plate sections could be fitted to their horse body as needed. Archery and crossbows seem like they'd work for ranged options. I've not considered them using magic, but having a fairly mobile spellcaster seems cool as well.

got a first session of Choir of Flesh in. Still getting the hang of the exploration but overall I like the core game loop, it feels flexible enough to expand on with some actual roleplaying but easy to fall back on. I like the settlement mechanics, it adds a fun base building element. His GMless sections keep getting better, this one has a nice bit on plots with hook generation and tension elements and stuff. Always like the balance of art to dense words he has in his rulebooks too, and the artist he got for this book is really really good.
