Thread #02 Lean Winter on the Tundra
Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

Full disclosure about three: no one knows. Catholicism and its various branches will point to religious connotations(father, son, and spirit), I have no idea about other religions. Mystics would emphasis that the action of doing things thrice is a certainty you're impressing upon reality. The more numerology inclined scholars could point to three being a "sacred" prime number though they would struggle to explain the sanctity. Bureaucracy's need for triplicate was for simplicity's sake; one for you, one for their on-site files, and one for the archive. One of the oldest recorded protections against the fairer folk came from the Norse and the Fairest were the only beings that warranted threefold protections out of all their enemies. As one can derive from these examples, and others if one researches, is that three allows for a fortification of form and function. You do things three times because you want it done strong, done right, and done forever.
Four has a similar effect though it seems to be more about empowering in an offensive connotation. You bless your bullets four times, in groups of four, and the ritual will make the damage twice as much no matter their size.

They're good at hiding amongst humans, better than other monsters. They're schemers, cursing their victims insteady of attacking them directly (mostly). For some reason they tend to stay away from places that are associated with order and rationality. Weaknesses? Not much is known, there is a rumor that they're weak to iron weapons but that's yet to be tested. If you kill one make sure to let us know, any method is good as long as it works.

>Ratling Venators
Is picking up one of these with a long rifle worth doing early game? I've only got 7 guys in the gang and assuming about 100 creds per game, probably need to prioritize getting more cheap bodies and some extra equipment.

A ratling with long rifle runs 50 credits. I can get smokes, grapnels, and a few other items for 100.
The alternative would be a ganger with boltgun.

Thoughts?

>That's hilarious, I want one of those dolls!
Mercury Lamp's robot dolls are the only items in the house that are more jealously guarded than the Amur leopard fur coat we just gave mom. Our doll who makes dolls constantly complains that they're "incomplete", "unfinished" and so on, exactly like your typical tortured artist or poète maudit from clan Toreador does when talking about their works.
I think she might put the first one on auction in the next 3-5 years given how fast robots, let alone AI, are advancing, but for the time being, she only sells traditional dolls.
>Women of culture I see.
The first time I saw a SIG MPX was about five years ago in Hong Kong. A cop had one and I immediately took a picture and sent it to Boy Toy for identification. He loves it too, even though it's not the most powerful or expensive weapon in our arsenal, he says it's one of the most fun. It's the same with my McLaren 750S when compared to the rest of the garage.

Speaking of our garage, Princess Charming confessed to me she wants to auction her Porsche 918 Spyder and get herself a Ferrari SF90 XX Spider. Knowing her, I bet she wants a grey one, like Grigio Titanio.
I don't think it's a terribly wise investment but she insists the Porsche is 11 years old and this was never about the money.

Their small size and low recoil definitely make all these weapons attractive to women, and attractive in the hands of women.

That Volgirre woman said: "I am destroying you so I can rebuild a better you." My second greatest shame is that I have to admit she was right: I am more resilient after surviving this, and I understand the perspective of women, victims, prey. We're still exchanging letters to this day. Everything I do is out of love of Mother, becoming a better Boy Toy is the least I could do.
Boy Toy is blood bond and even has the Loathsome Regnant flaw. You can't convince him to leave the House by posting on SchreckNet.
Meanwhile Venus in Furs has the Unbondable merit, she can drink the vitae of her childer to her heart's content.

In all seriousness, how can you get yourself to enjoy playing games when /tg/ players are so insufferable, socially and aesthetically in real life
>try to play 40k
>it's all actual obese autists with animes T shirts and don't understand the concept of an inside voice
>try to play RPGs
>It's fat 40 year olds with goatee or ungroomed beard and shaved head, marvel T shirt and jorts and wearing those weird flat Irish hats
>visit LGS on card gaming night
>take one whiff and immediately turn around and leave

It's actually distressing because I want to actually get to play in the hobby I love so much, but it doesn't seem to be possible if you can't find normal people to play with
Solution?

You're assuming anyone would even want to associate with such a judgmental cunt. I've known a dozen Too Good 4 U types like yourself over the years and you always have excuses for why you "choose" not to associate with supposedly lesser people, but every single time the reality is you're all just twats that nobody wants to be around so you craft this narrative of you as a "normal person"(who in reality want nothing to do with you) who rejects the scene out of choice to preserve your sad little ego. I suppose my ego would be in the shitter as well if I was such a social reject that even the other people society brands as social rejects told me to do one.

I seriously respect the dude.

>>
>>97251056
Sounds like a guy who likes his games enough to spend the time he spends driving from barrack to barrack or doing chores at home also thinking about the next session. My main game's also got a GM with a wife, two kids and a pretty busy job - probably not as busy as your GM, though - and out of the four players all are employed and one's also married and has children. I'm not married myself, for the record, but I am employed and have had a pretty busy year and a half at work. The current GM's view on successfully running a game with a lot of other things going on in life has been that spending those moments when your hands are busy but your brain doesn't have much to do thinking about the game and planning ahead.

I’m running a low fantasy game, and social advancement is gonna be a thing. So the PCs are gonna be rubbing elbows with a lot of noble families as they make their way into high society. I’m just asking for NPCs and ideas.
Most of the nobility are humans, but a few are half-elves and halflings.

This is actually perfect for the campaign, thanks anon
>>
>>97245555
That anon means they started out that way. Typically warlords and very successful barbarian killers and conquerors set up the main noble houses once they were done conquering. Their kids and grandkids grew up in the lap of luxury and turned out to be the wealthy educated elites in society. But if you look back far enough, most of those families started out with a guy with a last name like The Conqueror, Bloodaxe, Ironfang, Skullcrusher, The Terible, etc.

Best solution is to make them Diegetic.
Know how in 1981 Clash of the Titans movie where it occasionally zooms out to the gods playing hungry hungry hippos with the lives of men and they comment on what rube Perseus is?
If you want Fate Points to exist in setting then have them be the interest of the gods.
Make big sacrifices? Fate Points.
Do a job that's low pay but honours someone or helps someone favoured by them? Fate Points.
Roll a pair of 20s in a row? Give them a Lady Point and when they ask what that is tell them it's a fate point from The Lady and not to ask more.
They read the Necronomicon and become a crazy cultist mainlining your dark god? Fate Points out the wazoo.

Do you prefer systems with a strict class-based martial/caster division or classless systems that allow anyone to dip into anything at the cost of never being great at it?

There is no reason at all that you shouldn't be able to make a character that is good at sneaking and good at fighting if that's what you want to do.

That should be obvious and I never suggested that. I don't think you should discount a good design philosophy simply due to a boneheaded execution. Gaps in class performance should always be vertical slices of a game.

Classes will never be good design philosophy.

I wish TTRPG companies and indie game designers agreed, but then again, I can just make what I want ("rewrite what you don't like") so I don't need to worry about what other people produce.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?

It's because you only put half as much power behind each blow to make it in time. ATR is about animation cancels, anon.

>they should be able to purchase the exact same hacking skill at a cheaper point cost.
No. GURPS suggests restricting skill acquisition depending on the game world. The training rules suggest that a teacher can only help a character raise his skill up to the teacher's relative skill, or to invest as many points as the teacher has in a skill. So only hackers from the hacker faction can raise Hacking to IQ+3 for example.
If you offer discounts some players will have more points to put elsewhere, which can absolutely unbalance PCs and seed discontent in the party.

>1) how to account for certain factions being better at certain subjects?
Access. Let's think in terms of C&C Generals.
US is better at Air Superiority not because they can buy Engineer (High-Performance Airplane) for cheap but because they have access to it at all. US has widespread education that allows engineers to be formed, and heavy investment in aerospace to make said engineers specializing in High-Performance Airplane worth it, not to mention more know-how and trade secrets (higher skill level).

Just had my first gurps game that wasn't dungeon fantasy. Using GURPS action rules but point value lowered to 150pts instead of 250, with challenges toned down in turn.
We're using lots of cinematic and extra effort rules too.

So far, it's been pretty fun, and it didn't devolve into just sitting in one cover and shooting. The firefight had grappling, jumping through windows, shootdiving like max payne, and stealth kills. Even had the opportunity to use some tactical shooting extreme conditions rules due to the fight taking place in the extreme north of greenland.

Only thing I'm iffy about when comparing melee combat and ranged combat is that with guns, you do nothing but aim for the vitals or torso, there's no reason to aim anywhere else outside of trying to avoid DR.
-7 for the head is not worth considering the multiplier is just +1, and hitting legs and arms does too little damage with pi and pi- pistols.

I just allow targeting random location to get the occasional head or limb hit in

I don't like adding extra rolls, having to roll 3d6 and look a table after every roll sucks.
I wish there was an online program to roll randeom hit location automatically. It would be real hand for shrapnel and shotguns.
