Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsingSo I started thinking. For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup? There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat? What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory? What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.Comment too long. So what I’m picking up; OP wants a combat system where a Dex roll should be done by the player playing 5 finger fillet on moms dining room table to improve his actual dexterity, strength rolls should involve actual kettle bells and charisma checks need to be over saw by someone with real world sales experience to see if their speech waivers on delivery huh?OP is high as fuck, but I can appreciate some out of the box thinking

Instead, the Redeemer Queen is about, like, ending slut-shaming and providing a Safe Space for poets and whores. What does she Redeem? Nothing. >>97262190If you don't typically interact with modern decks then I'd consider looking for a community that plays TOSS format, or if possible, Branded/DIFO format. Those are ~2019 and ~2021 respectively, where TOSS is dominated by 4 decks while Branded/DIFO has a better spread. Only problem with TOSS is that it falls under Master Rule 4's restrictions, so a lot of communities that run it will also have those restrictions (they are not good and force you to use link monsters if you want to touch your extra deck).Anyway, Branded/DIFO is a good halfway point since it has some of the old design philosophies in motion while moving towards newer design choices, and TOSS is alright if you want a solved meta to help break the ice for you.
>>97262758Because that's what we're being given and creating at this point. An amalgamation of things put together with various other things to make what resembles something cohesive but has little care put into it and is basically haphazard. In terms of decks we used to call them "piles" IE spellcaster pile. Language evolves and a term to describe such conditions now exists so the term is used for it IE spellcaster slop. The term can also refer to the input/new cards because they are equally haphazardly designed with a lack of consideration of how they'll interact with the rest of the game with a lack of restriction such as an archetype, type, or attribute lock.Sure it can be cool but at some point it homogenizes things.Ironically the term slop is also technically subject to being slop. Because there's no real limit to it's application it can be used wherever and on whatever. Homogenizing language and replacing many exclusive adjectives.

>>97264194How is that grim?
>>97264200The first post they quoted is self-evidently grim and there were multiple replies explaining why. Can/do you read? The second and third are a little harsher but I understand. It is pretty grim for someone to want to get into a miniature game but want (or have) to be like, "I can't buy any miniatures though." Use numbered tokens at that point instead of standees. But this is grim because of a society that leaves people too poor to buy miniatures, above all else.
>>97261802>disconnect between player expectations of balance (that every option should be relevant and fairly well-balanced against each other)curse those insane, unreasonable player expectations!it has fuck all to do with design intent, cmon. GW not playtesting sufficiently isn't a new phenomenon. in 40 years they've released a grand total of zero games where the internal balance wasn't blown to shit. (which isn't to say they have made no great games, but you usually need 10+ years of post-oop community patches before you have anything that could be called "balance" with a straight face) they don't care now and they didn't much then either.
>>97264514I meant the second conversation point. Using paper stand-in is ok. And noone needs to be able to buy minis. It is sad when someone cant afford them, but they are not that important to not use paper minis.

>>972647833e is more constrained in a lot of areas, at least in terms of how you interact in a practical manner. Like if you go toe to toe with a Solar, he's more than likely going to beat your ass at actually achieving the goals you set out to do. However, you do things in a weird, wacky woohoo way that tends to inflict collateral (literally or figuratively) in place of sheer effectiveness. You do have a few really interesting trump cards that are harder to deal with, but you're no longer changing the type of game that's being played.I don't remember any of the signatures
On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

Thoughts on Scion?
>>97263416I liked the 'masquerade' element of it. The masses should not know about the Gods. This is, of course, something that could very well change during the course of the story your players are telling, but at a base level, the Gods should be underground and subsisting off what are essentially worship scraps while they get their scions to do things for them in mortal world.
>>97263453Fair take. The masquerade's orders of magnitude superior if the devs aren't willing to go all in and actually change things up and engage with the concept of the gods being real and being active.
