You should ALWAYS cheese every encounter. If you EVER end up in a situation that even remotely resembles a fair fight, just run away and wait until you can rig the situation to your favor. Use your fucking brain. Even if it is highly improbable for you to lose a given fight, statistically speaking, you'll still eventually croak if you keep taking those bets. Don't leave it up to chance. It's easier than you might think, you just need to use your noggin. It's not a video game. You can do whatever the fuck you want.Just the other night my party ran into a melee monster in a narrow ass room that they for some reason decided to ram their dicks into until someone died. When I suggested that we retreat for a bit and lure it into the room with the big ass statues so we can all just climb them and shoot it to death, they looked at me like I just escaped from the looney bin. They all died of course.

>>97250948eh, I make a character that's meant to die so I can gauge what kind of game we're playing. Always a front liner so I can really get a feel for the danger presented. If they don't die, great. I find people like my simple characters more, or just the way I play them.

Why do "modern" and modern people go insane when they see some eldritch blorblo, but Conan could just kill it without going "aaaaaahhh save me niggerman!!!!!"

>Why do HP Lovecraft's works differ from Robert E Howard's?
>>97281870Plenty of Conan characters lost their shit looking at horrors of the outer dark retard>>97282469Howard Firstname & Howard Lastname did a fair amount of collaboration. Lovecraft was largely pessimistic & Robert was largely optimistic.
>>97282007As you've asked him to read something, surely that means you've read it yourself, and aren't just posturing, right? So, what's the answer to his question?
>>97281870Conan never faced non-euclidean horrors, just eldritch monsters which weren't outside of how his (limited) understanding of reality worked. For him demons and unknown entities were an expectable reality the notion of which was already integrated in his set of beliefs, conversely Lovecraft protagonists get their whole concept of reality completely shattered by the encounter with those, completely unexpected, horrors, stranger of their modern and scientific way of understanding reality.

>>97279688Weight is intrinsic, there are no "skills" for armor etc so it's a balance for carrying mega-gear. You have people with 20-30 strength & toughness walking around in full carapace with heavy bolters which is massively over weight, still running at full speed (I bet you ignore narrative speeds and just have people turn up at X time, ignoring agility) and lugging around heavy gear. It unbalances the game and makes nullifies things like unnatural strength bonuses etc. It even impacts you jumping and lifting shit which everyone also ignores. It makes me rub my tummy and grumble.
>>97279794>there are no "skills" for armor etc Not in official material, no. But I did make some stuff like that. Some Kroot talents, for instance, are dependent on wearing light armor.>narrative speedsI use degrees of success based on Navigate and Survival tests to determine the days or hours a trip to a zone takes, and how many rations or food items it consumes / can be created or replenished on-site. Most of my teams tend to stay together, however, since separating means getting wrecked.>Unnatural strengthStill good for melee damage>It even impacts you jumping Well, there was that one time everyone wall-kicked off the techpriest to jump over a forgepit. Usually, everyone just hookshots over with a grapnel if they're mortal. Last series, the deathmark just teleported everywhere and the cryptek and praetorian could fly, so it was just the royal warden who needed to worry about running.>lifting shitThe only time I ever looked at the lifting rules was to play a prank on someone. Otherwise, I've done lifting and carrying as a Degree of Success extended challenge, since it's usually tied to an objective of some kind.
>>97279937Black Crusade has complications to making weight matter since for space marines in power armour their carry weight is crazy. It's only came up so far with minions especially the serf and aspirant minions who were always encumbered like pic related.I haven't limited how many weapons they could carry (currently they aren't carrying unreasonable numbers of weapons) but just houseruled that weapons they could actually draw in combat without using an action to fish them out was limited to whatever was in their hands plus 2 maglock points excluding grenades (obviously heavy weapons can't be put away or maglocked). I also kept track of ammo. It's been a very effective tension/risk reward mechanic as they currently are wandering homeless renegades with no resupply and legion ammo is hard to find in almost all places. Obviously that will become less of an important choice once they get shit like a ship or hideout.
>>97272190Well yeah there's that side to it, but also in general the whole point of having these rules is to provide a simulation of "reality" (as reality exists in that universe). If say, just for one example a regular human in only a bodysuit is tanking more damage than an ogryn, that weakens the simulation. The more this kind of thing is done the more it erodes this framework put in place to provide such a simulation, and nothing fucking matters right? You're all working to collaboratively make this big cool story, but if you're not following a cohesive set of rules your story is tantamount to toddlers in the sand pit bashing toys together and blowing raspberries. Like who cares if X character did something real epic and survived Y to pull off Z when this character is coated in plot armour and constantly rolling crazy high, nigh impossible to fail tests because we're all ignoring what's actually on the character sheet and the action/combat rules in the book? Just something to bring up to them and see what they say.
>>97282674Totally agree. If you don't want to use the system then don't use the system in my opinion.>>97279937The main thing is if your dudes are having fun at the end of the day and it sounds like they are. For me personally you're just not playing dark heresy, you've taken it and changed it into something else. It's funny to me because dark heresy is system I see being bastardized this way the most. You even see it on /tg/ where people recount epic tales but when you know the system you're like "they either were not following RAW by miles, or they're making it up."

>>97278886It's a very old trope. I'm a major Mecha fan.>>97281836And yes, one of the inspirations.
"Innocent girl gets used as a weapon" is actually inspired by the original Mobile Suit Gundam, specifically Lalah Sune, a young sex worker that was groomed by Char and Zeon to be a psychic super-soldier. Her close emotional connection with Amuro, the protagonist, and her tragic death at his hands made her something of a hit with the melodramatic audiences of that era.And we've been plagued with magic space psychic girls since.
>>97281054>Realistically what would life in a world of superheroes where your ability is defined by your bloodline be like?Well, for a start, bloodline powers means secret identities do fuck all unless your entire family tree keeps that shit secret, so masks are out. Also means supervillains would be pretty rare for the same reason. You aren't gonna have people start trying to crime when their powers are basically a fingerprint unless they're immediately willing to live on the run. There's a difference between running after you get caught and running in the first place and people willing to do A aren't necessarily going to be willing to do B.

>>97274865Just use a d6 "yes/no" oracle thing along with standard rules. It's hardcore enough as it is because of how lethal it is. I'm going to look into making the rules more "heroic" down the line (there's apparently a Sword and Sorcery homebrew that makes singular characters more powerful/less squishy... just haven't used it yet). Still want to play Scarlet Heroes as well.

>>97274734How is Dragonbane solo? I've been eyeing the starter set and I'm tempted.
>>97280039Really good. The solo adventure can start feeling a bit limited, but it still does set up a good point crawl framework, and it is easy to just expnd it to wider adventuring on your own.
Anyone play it yet? I like the "rustic fantasy" setting. The core rules seem interesting, it has more mechanics and gameplay than most other narrative games. I enjoy that it doesn't have moves or whatever to confine you, you can actually play your character and do whatever you want. It's got enough knobs and options in terms of resolution I feel like it's actually a real game despite having that more story focus vs simulation focus. And I like that the DM has all the traditional power of the DM and there's not like "Fate Points" or something else that gives players control to change stuff.Thinking I might try a short game for my table, just a few lower powered sessions. It also has good tools for a solo stuff which is interesting.
>>97282455The biggest thing I struggle with for the PBTA stuff is the moves feel constricting to me. I just don't feel like I'm authentically doing what I want to when it comes to do "all actions you can take are one of these 9 moves."

>>97277926Lurk five more years before posting newfag.
I've spent the last year, studying, and designing a custom Arthurian set, originally intended to be based on Le Morte d'Arthur (like how P3k was based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms). However, as I continued to study, and look into different (and some obscure sources) this turned into a much more wider net. This set, which is no where near finished includes>Welsh Triads and The Magnibong>Pre-Vulgate Arthur traditions>Vulgate/Post Vulgate/Lancelot cycles>some English/Welsh fairy tales>and even a bit of the Victorian Arthurian revival (especially for art). I avoided the Italian and German romances entirely, and tried not to include weird outliners except when needed. Outside of art, nothing is sourced from the 20th century or onward. Also all art is public domain. I'm mainly posting here for feedback. Some will be art recommendations, flavor text (especially sourced) will be always welcomed.Comment too long. >>97283051Appreciate it, I'll add them to my reading list
With Tristan here, we go into Tristan and Isolde, one of the more famous splinter tales (which was originally a story completely independent from Arthurian legend. Before you say this is a commander mechanic "Partner with X) was originally a 60 card mechanic, and was mostly features on non-legendary creatures.
>>97283075I'll end this here tonight. With Isolde the Fair, which. Three other cards directly tie into Isolde and Tristan.

>>97281167>bet you've read less than 30% of that, and it's just a feelgood shrine functionally indistinguishable from some other fag's wall of Funko Pops.Eh, Warhammer books ain't exactly hard reading. You can get through an entire edition's codexs in a day if you want to. Compared to the academic books I read they're a breeze. I mostly use them for painting inspiration though, as I really love the classic 80s-90s aesthetic, especially the colors.
>>97281750I'm not convinced it is a real conversion, too much of it is blurred and indistinct. Too much detail is missing. All hallmarks of ai. Further, real or no, the "models" in the image are partially painted and of middling quality. They command no respect and are worthy of no praise or recognition. If he wants to show off unfinished work he can take it to the WIP thread, if he wants to post ai, he can take it to the ai thread. His posts have no place here under any circumstances. Either way the photo was not posted in good faith, so there's no reason to give him the benefit of the doubt.
