The experiments are to test the limits of how much the "reality" of the world can be fucked with before people notice too hard.

It starts as a slow creep before the overt stuff happens and everything is thematic to the situation.

butt fuck nowhere USA with perfect white bread american ideal townsfolk? They are all secretly monsters pretending and the uncanny valley ramps up until they mask off.

Random inner city USA? The faceless masses of people will randomly become monsters that hunt you down but non one else notices what's going on or your own presence even as they are attacked in the process.

Typical desert village except you have to hide from some super giant monster that randomly spits out smaller monsters.

Basically, boxed in experiences where the situation decays and forces the PCs to survive as long as possible fore they move on to the next box.

Christmas edition

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

My perfect KDM mod:
>less hunts
>more crafts
>more split between character power and gear power (currently is like 5:95)
>More instadeath like the Murder settlement event, which is like, a whole event and a thing you play around, and less instadeath like any random hunt even "the moquito that bite you had supercancer. You died."
>more tits
>>
>>97276676
>the Murder settlement event, which is like, a whole event and a thing you play around
Can't really play around "flip the top card of the settlement event"; which I hate. On the other hand, I really like the murder event when they add it "1d5 years from now" and wish most instadeath events were similar (stuff like the kingsman curse or antelope aftermath)
>>
>>97276676
Murder i find objectionable because (iirc?) it targets your most experienced returning survivor? That's always a really fucking obnoxious kick in the balls.
I could deal with some random schmuck being done in just fine but the star hunter is annoying.

Assuming my memory isn't faulty we once had murder happen, the murderer got caught, and we got the option where they become the undisputed murder king (queen in that case) of the settlement. That was fun. But
>survivor with the most hunt xp dies.
Will never not be annoying.
>>
>>97277026
>>97276969
Yes the actual target of it is bad, and yes it's just a card flip.
And yes the "add event in x years" is awesome
But the first thing is just a balance thing, like it could be "the lowest XP kills the highest XP, add takes half his xp/split his xp between the other survivors that catch the murder" it can be made fine
and for being a card flip, I see it as a settlement inevitability, it has settlement consequences, even if it's a card flip, it's a thing that can happen and it's how that affects your settlement/story, and what they do about it, it leads to something, it's a storybuilding effect
I would be fine with a card that says "the oldest person over X hunt xp in the settlement, has died of old age", things happen, what does your settlement do about it
I wouldn't be fine with a random event saying "if you are old over X hunt xp you die"
>>
>>97276969
>>97277026
>>97277501
Could do what community edition did and say "when you draw this card, put it on the timeline for next year" so you have time to bring out your most valuable survivors.

>>
>>97270384
>Carnagie, Tiletum, GWT Argentina, Endless winter, Flamecraft, Libertalia 2ed, Lacrimosa, Weather machine, Mosaic, Ahoy, Encyclopedia, Cat in the box
Cat in the box was very popular but I guess the onslaught of new tricktakers killed it. Also, maybe I'm misremembering but I think there was online/yt buzz about Encyclopedia being goty when it came out and that died in a week.

>Bloodstones, ICE, Darwins Journey, Nucleum, Distilled, Apiary, Expeditions, Kutna Hora, Daybreak, Evacuation, The fox experiment, Septima, Arborea, Last light
Nucleum is good. It's just less elegant compared to brass games. But it had some neat ideas. Really wanted Bloodstones but the rounded tile stacking on too small areas on the board killed my interest.
>>
>>97277948
It really is just pretentious nonsense for the kind of person who simultaneously can't think for themselves and the idea of reading a rulebook to understand a game is too complex for them, but also wants to feel superior by consuming le intellectual reviewer content. I genuinely pity them trying to fill the void of being nogamers by reading such drivel to try and feel superior to some kid playing monopoly and enjoying it

>>97278230
Bloodstones was right on my radar as something gentler to get my non wargamers more into that side, but holy crap was it just a boring uninspired game. If it wasnt for the production, it would be target shelf level forgotten generic crap

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. And as we enter this happiest and newest of years, remember: 2e was never an old-school game, bait is for reporting, and fish is for smoking! Happy new year, grogs!

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

>What was your best OSR gaming moment of 2025?
BX newfag campaign before my proud fighter player left the main adventure. His wizard buddy found some magical short sword in a locked casket which he secretly wanted to keep for himself. The beastmaster and the goblin took notice of the glow however and tried to confront him but the wizard knew his judo. Finally the beastmaster put the wizard in a headlock and the fighter approached them. Instead of going for that magical short sword, the fighter took some valuable pearl off the wizard and the beastmaster immediately released him wanting nothing to do with that. I've lost my shit at that moment and couldn't stop laughing out loud over the internal mess my players engaged in.
P.S. I miss the fighter but unfortunately he doesn't want to interact with two other players anymore. I'm still running a rival adventure party with him in the campaign which causes funny developments. But at some point I don't know whether I am able to keep it up if the main group seeks to face him or we enter the wargaming stage...

Okay, you bastard, tell us how did it go? Was it good?
I've been running a second campaign for Dragonbane for my wife and son based purely on Hearts of Stone from The Witcher 3 and it's going really nice.

The first campaign was the box set, but the story there was borderline non-existent, which was a bit bumming for me.

I also ran the village of the day before as a one-shot with friends, and it was cool.

How would you balance the spell? One other idea I had was to give the next heightened effect instead of tHP and +dmg if you already benefit from the runes.
Sure, it's yet another "Charge me, Doctor!" spell, but at least it's not dropped after level 1.
>>
>>97277870
I don't really think you need them to be a constant in your caster's spell lists. But if you are really hellbent on buffing them, just grant them a property rune. Either from a select list or any property rune.

Not to address every point here but battletech mats actually look way better than the right. They're simple and don't try to do too much, but they aren't ugly. Saying a battletech map is ugly terrain is like saying a chessboard is ugly terrain. But the right image is in fact ugly in a way they aren't.

Just use a d6 "yes/no" oracle thing along with standard rules. It's hardcore enough as it is because of how lethal it is. I'm going to look into making the rules more "heroic" down the line (there's apparently a Sword and Sorcery homebrew that makes singular characters more powerful/less squishy... just haven't used it yet). Still want to play Scarlet Heroes as well.

Happy new year /srpgg/!
I lost all my pdfs and similar to a hdd hiccup (or moved them and can't find them) so I'm rebuilding my stock from archives.
This is the year I'm going to actually use them.

Most Yu-Gi-Oh! discussion encouraged. Post OC, write dumb fanfics with bad CaC in them, duel each other, have fun, etc.

I’ve seen people saying that enneacraft is a unfun/bad deck to play against. Does anyone know why that is?

ygo players piss and shit themselves when you set a card, just look at the average player's reaction to any trap deck

Going through my old decks, is there any chance Super Quant ever makes a comback?
Maybe Genesys? My autism compels me

it's entire gameplan is to ftk you with burn damage
it's pretty much the least fun concept for a deck imaginable
