Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?

Why does Kharn leave a whole sleeve off? Why do two different Em,peror's Children characters have skin armor, rather than ceramite? Why doesn't everyone wear a helmet? Sometimes SM characters, good or bad, just DO things, it doesn't have to always make sense.

Because that's time wasting behavior.

Why were so many of the "OG" game designers insufferable faggots? It seems like the vast majority of game designers from the 70s and 80s were self-obsessed dickheads who openly hated and looked down on their customer base. There were obviously exceptions, and some like Gygax would go on to regret and apologize for it, but still, what made so many "professionals" back then such fags?

Making the player clueless as to what happened would make sense as a consequence of dealing with some Eldritch bullshit where, after fucking up, they just get sucked into a portal or whatever and just disappear. Still a bit bullshity but makes sense given the context, especially if it's CoC or something.
But I can not even fathom unironically typing this pile of excrement in a text form and thinking it's a good advice to show consequences by... doing random bullshit multiple sessions after that makes zero sense with no connection to what they did or even mention of what caused it.

If your child broke a plate, got a bad grade or whatever and you said nothing only to randomly ground them out of nowhere without saying what for, weeks after the fact.
I imagine it would have the opposite effect.
And likewise I feel like a player this would happen to wouldn't really feel like murderhoboing is bad and just take random rocks fall on his character as a sign to double down and just mess with the DM more.

It took a long ass time to produce and ship so its much easier to just use a dab of loctite than going through all that. If it was beyond saving somehow Im sure they'd replace it anyways
>>
>Insanity Gaze (Su) Insanity (as the spell, CL 9th), range 30 feet, Will DC 16 negates. The save DC is Charisma-based
Am I correct that Protection of Evil wouldn't bar you from going Insane but the insanity would be staved off for the duration of PoE?
>>
>>97262467
Protection From Evil wouldn't protect you at all from something like Insanity. It's pretty specific in what it does:
>the barrier blocks any attempt to possess the warded creature (by a magic jar attack, for example) or to exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject, such as dominate person
Keyword here is "ongoing control." Unless whatever effect renders your character Insane also grants someone else control over your character, you're shit out of luck. Better hope the cleric has a straitjacket and/or a scroll of Heal saved for you.
>>
>>97250122
AC is only reliable if your enemies do no have intelligence or DM doesn't use NPC WBL. Otherwise fucking over armor and shield AC is very cheap.
>>
>>97263044
>INCLUDING enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that...
Anon, that's definitional "Inclusive" language, not exclusive. Mental compulsions as a whole are block and ongoing enchantments are just one example.

I read them. None of this soft, low engagement click play and attention drifts off business. I actually had to actively engage with the books look at the words, turn pages, even remember where I was up to since bookmarks are for sissies.

They are bad. They are Troy Denning fiction which should tell you enough already. Writing games he is good at, writing fiction is not his strength.

Most of the characters are barely likeable, thankfully Rikus is one of the tolerable ones. He splits the party only not in a good Tolkien way, not even in a not too bad Dragonlance first trilogy way. The good thing about that is it gets rid of the other characters for a while, the bad thing is it gets rid of the tolerable ones for a while. They're just not believable as people.

The action is all over the place. It jumps around with terrible pacing. Long periods of nothing then Denning remembers he's supposed to be advancing the plot and it's rushed. Challenges are pulled out of nowhere as hard as Palpatine was pulled out of the grave to replace Snoke.

The wizard woman turns into a Mary Sue even compared to the other characters. In a story already story full of Mary Sues this is something spectacular. Characters have the implausible ability to travel at the speed of plot rather than by believable means. When they're not on stage things just develop conveniently. The wizard woman's powers just develop. There's no sense of threat after the first novel, and not much in that one.

Of course, they take on the worst bad guys around, how else can they do anything else in a fantasy novel, but in doing so they make a mockery of the the Dragon, a unique monster who's supposed to the baddest bad guy around, so bad that he was created solely to be badder than and to keep in check the next baddest bad guy.

>>97257781
They are bad. You can ignore them and you can ignore every reference to the metaplot even if it might be a little convenient to have Tyr free from a sorceror king.
>>

Somebody has to be the jobber.

Any of you guys ever play this? What's it like? I happened to be looking for a game to run something like ghostbusters in, though I was looking at stuff like hunter the reckoning, and stumbled across this today.
>>
>>97261804
Ive played a one shot of spooktacular, which is an IP free version of the game. Enjoyed it quite a bit, it was a lot of fun. It's a very light weight game.
>>
>>97261804
It's fun, it's simple, suitable for adults and kids.

First edition was slightly better. Not all that many real differences mechanically, added a little encumbrance rule rather than just can carry five items or whatever it was, made a rule for making weird science stuff, added a sort of wound/injury rule. They also got rid of the character and equipment cards because they cost too muc--because they were "childish". Making a character in first edition takes seconds, and a few more seconds in second. Its dice pool system is the progenitor of the d6 or D6 system like used in WEG Star Wars.

It's not something I'd probably make a long campaign of, though that is where the second edition was headed, but for a short campaign it's fun and it's never out stayed its welcome. It's easy to learn and as I said works with kids and adults. The only warning I'd give is that it's supposed to light entertainment and it's a bit less fun if you play it completely straight but don't got for slapstick. If you and the players don't take it seriously that's worse I'd say than taking a more serious game and playing that for laughs.
>>
>>97261804
I played a Ghostbusters game, but for the life of me can't remember if it was the official rpg or some custom thing my friend made. Our characters were Ghostbusters franchisees for the city we actually live in. My character was a small time con man who didn't believe in ghosts and joined up because he thought it was just a way to scam credulous rubes. Finding new ways to rationalize the increasing levels of ghost activity was fun.

What is the best TTRPG for a Kenshi Campaign?

Rent free

>GURPS
Is not a functional TTRPG, but a box of parts for amateur development of one. It is quite a useless suggestion without a very thorough defining of which options from which sourcebooks, at which point you may as well just wrap it in a fan-supplement yourself.
>>
>>97257329
Yeah, that's what the earlier discussion about using Basic or even Lite was about. If it was me:
>Basic Set covers most every rule
>Low-Tech for extra equipment
>Martial Arts for extra combat options
>After the End for tinkering and environmental hazards
>>
>>97257329
You don't know jackshit of what you are saying. You really can do all you need with just Basic with only using supplements for ridiculous specific stuff which you can only grasp once you actually start playing.
>>
>>97258327
>>97261064
The point very much includes the matter of options NOT to use, thus Basic covering an enormous amount of ground is part of the problem. Because the POINT of GURPS is that it's not specific to any particular subset of TTRPG design space, and thus to support a specific theme the end user has to undertake no small amount of design work pruning what doesn't fit.

All the discussion has been what enormous mounds of content apply, none of the detail of what to remove that's needed to actually assure the campaign fits Kenshi in particular.

>>

No Shia, no African Islam, no fallen nobles turned bandits, no Christianized Arabs. No cave lizard, terror bird, or ant mounts. Ouch. There's still lots of possibilities though:
>Sufism: that might have made it through with the Mamluks. A dervish was traveling with them and ended up stuck here. They're periodically purged by the Ulama who dislikes their relatively lax interpretation of God.
>The Cult of the Supreme Creator: African cultures typically held that the world was created by one being. This idea became widespread in areas outside of the abode.
>The Timars failed to gain independence, but they took up important positions among the Emirates. Many Pashas are loyal to the Emirs and that puts pressure on the Janissaries.
>Muslims were very resistive to foreign missionaries. Even during the Crusades, which has left the number of apostates relatively negligible among the high born.
>Ironically, many 'prey' animals were immune to lycanthropy which seemed to target predatory animals en masse. Bison, Goats, Rams, Lamas, and even Elephants are still used as beasts of burden by humanity.
>>
>>97258311
Some anons tried to expand on this. I'll ad my own spin:
>Lycanthropy gets less and less infectious, to the point where it's nonexistent, the farther you get away from Mammals. For example: Amphibians and Insects are atypically not labeled 'beasts' and have very little in common with human biology, so they're completely safe. Octopi, Squid, Snails, numerous invertebrates are also safe to be around. Reptiles and fish are hit and miss, with Sharks the most potent carriers of both kingdoms while some lizards like the Iguana and the Bearded Dragon are pretty safe to be around. Birds were able to avoid infection due to being both genetically distant, and the ability to easily flee from lycanthropic monsters.
>Among mammals, smaller docile creatures like the fox and the porcupine survived and even prospered as hunting dogs were exterminated by paranoid humans. Humans are using more and more traps to fight off invasive hordes of rabbits, badgers, weasels, foxes, and now raccoons. Geographically, the biospheres look like this:
>Caliphate: Insects and Lizards prosper. Birds of Prey are the big cheese. Locusts have a lack of natural predators so they're increasingly becoming a menace to all kingdoms.
>Holy League: smaller mammals are prevalent. There's a big rabbit infestation right now. A lot of seaborne mammals call the southern coastline home.
>Elf land: docile bison and yaks are prevalent, arctic birds like puffins and arctic eagle are the dominant predators. Elves like to introduce terrible creatures from the planes.
>>
In the southern kingdoms, the Kingdom of God maintains the unity of the faith through the Holy Inquisition. The Inquisition is an order of clerics descended from the Severan Monastic Order that once settled doctrinal disputes and canonical law. Now they relentlessly hunt the foes of the Holy Church, be they Saracen or heretic, and will hunt monsters as Satan defiled the garden and brought lycanthropy into the world. Inquisitorial Acolytes tend to work in cells, answering to a Lord Inquisitor. These cells generally have four roles:

>The Investigator: generally, the captain of the squad. An expert in heresy investigations with a background in witch hunting, he's the one tasked with leading and managing the squad. He's the one who supervises the interrogations, judges the honesty of confessions, studying clues, and overseeing the inspection of suspicious zones. He also acts as Judge, Jury, and Executioner. Deciding who lives and who dies.
>Holy Blades: a squad of warriors that escorts the investigator. These men are atypically recruited from the knightly orders or from feudal levies and are authorized by the Investigator to kill anyone deemed an enemy of the faith. To symbolize their induction into the Blades, they are given swords anointed in holy water thus symbolizing their status as defenders of the Faith.
>Torturer: the name says all. They are the dead eyed men who apply the terrible tools of the Investigator to the accused. And they're good at it, recruited from the numerous prisons and dungeons that dot the southern lands. But the Inquisition doesn't just take the average Gaoler or Ramsay Bolton, nope. All torturers have a medical background and are entrusted with monster vivisections, often being sawbones in their former lives.
>Theologian: experts in religious theology and holy law. They are the ones who dictate conundrums like so and so is a saint, or if one vow of poverty is too extreme. They also make sure that the Investigator adheres to canonical law.

I don't get your schizo rant
My point is you need the villains to be a fucking threat to make victories look important. If the Empire always loses then it makes them a total fucking joke and the OT becomes pointless cause the Rebels would have won anyways. It's why George made the Empire win various times in the OT: they take over the Tantive, they successfully kill Ben, they win all throughout ESB and both Yavin and Endor are barely victories with tons of Rebel casualties. Lucas knew how to make the Empire threatening, Henry doesn't
This is the exact same thing we all complained about with TCW, the Republic always wins and the CIS always loses which makes the war a fucking joke.

When the wokefags came for me, I said nothing.

Im out of my depth here

TL;DR Im trying to learn how to run a setting I have no experience with. Looking for setting influence.

-

I would like some help with this concept, post apocalyptic science fantasy. The idea that the world was propelled forward by magic tremendously, but then cataclysmic events reset civilization, and now were living in the post era.

Im used to running Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Lancer, but this new group has requested me to run fantasy for them.

I agreed, but I told them I wanted to draw from influences that im familiar with, the closest comparison I can think of is the Televison Show Adventure Time where there was technology and then a fall, and now we have magic and some science tech. Disparate cities and no main governing body.

So, im looking to add to my influence, are there any pre existing settings ? Are there any fun things you've ever wanted to do along these lines ?

>Isn't there an Ashes Without Number now? How's that, do you know?
it uses the Edges thing like Cities does.

That said, there's rules for mixing all the Without Numbers systems if OP wants to use that.

Based. I've been wanting to run something similar. Thundarr the barbarian was my favorite show growing up.

Cities has some magical edges you could use.

I guess it has more to do with how magical he wants things to be. Cities magic is lower to the ground, more like psionics. There's like 20 spells all a sentence long, there's summoning, there's channeling all your magic oomph into being a Monk/superhuman (no mystic adept allowed, no enchanter edge because it assumes magic items are things you adventure for). Doesn't play nice with cybernetics. It's very shadowrun inspired.

Worlds is high magic. You have bigass flashy spells per day (not vancian) and then also arts that use effort like normal like cities/psionics. Also you have a hp penalty. All the partial mages just have arts no capital S Spells™.

The best Science Fantasy author of all time is Roger Zelazny. You can go w/ the first 5 of Amber Chronicles if you wanna do "alternate dimensions bring technology out of place." But he's got plenty of standalone novels that do similar things, too. Personally, I like Changeling and Madwand because they'd make a great campaign to wholesale rip off.
