Thread #02 Lean Winter on the TundraPrevious Thread: >>97090196Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887Rules:>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.>Spoiler any OOC discussion.Happy hunting. Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

Speaking of vampires. I'm glad I live out in the boonies and only hunt weird ugly stuff, half of which is the equivalent of a very dangerous animal. Because I know I'd fold immediately to a sexy she-vampire.
>>97262697Truly. Sexy vampires are such a danger. I'm not sure how other hunters resist. The one time I came face to face with one, she was working against a mutual enemy so there was no need to kill her. It was like she read my mind with how sensual she was.

Trench Raiding With The Lads Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. >>97263909>>97263729The slimmer one isn't from Clan War, he's one of the early miniatures for L5R (the card game/RPG side). See: https://www.nobleknight.com/P/2147421592/Hida-SukuneActual Clan War minis were closer to 30mm scale (like Zenit's stuff), but very robust. They only had two poses on the rank-and-file guys. Otherwise quite good models. If you keep a sharp eye out on auction sites you can still find minis quite cheaply, they were in active production from a guy who bought up the molds until just a few years ago. Shadowlands stuff is the real bitch, Zenit and - bizzarely - Ral Partha Europe are the only people with any undead samurai and bakemono/nezumi are basically impossible to find. Naga only got about half their releases before Clan War went under, as well. Reaper did some promotional stuff with the license in the late 1990s. I have a couple of them, you could get a promotional Emperor Toturi and pet bird for subscribing to Inquest, and a few things like one of the Geisha are still in the Reaper catalog to this day. They did some more recent runs of models for the RPG and Lootcrate that are... less cheap. Those guys have a white blister and L5R branding. ...Also, while I was researching who wound up with the rights to Valiant Miniatures' stuff, I discovered a company called "5th Field" who seem to be archiving a whole shitload of old moulds. Including a Kobold whore. I'm genuinely shocked it's from Jason Weibe instead of Klocke or Kev White
>>97259559>>97260294it wasn't just the 1.5 kits. there were a ton of 2e kits that had some combination of insane assembly, unbelievably fragile models, weird scaling (like justice and the viks being fucked up), or just way way more pieces cut than there needed to be. there were only a handful of cases where they weren't a strict downgrade from the metals, and that mostly in the bigger monsters.I'll grant that they've gotten better with time, but they don't get a pass for all that. It's not like they ever reimbursed anybody for all that trash.
>>97264562It's probably a question of different expectation then, the M2e minis actually convinced me to buy plastic and I actually found Wyrd's large models/monsters to be the worst of their plastics.
I got an FDM printer lately and now I'm livid because I realised how fucking awful Pajeet47's prints are. Even with a 0.4 nozzle you can print smooth surfaces with great detail as long as you go with the lowest layers possible. Scenery, tanks, scatter terrain - none of those have to look like carved wood if you are willing to use just a little bit more of material and wait for a bit longer as well. I won't even mention how much the quality improves with a 0.2 nozzle.
>>97264623I doubt jeet47fag's prints look THAT terrible in person, it's partially because the camera is picking up the layer lines far more than what you'd with naked eyes.
Previous thread: >>97111514GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.If you're wondering where to start:- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.Thread question: How often do you use an official GURPS setting? Which are your favorites?
Any good quick gadgeteering rules outside the ones in Basic Set? I'm looking for something with less GM fiat, and less reliance on $ value for deciding skill penalties
>>97264753Here's what I do, with my slightly adjusted crafting rules from low tech:>Your man-hour is worth $10.>Your man-day is worth 75$>Your man-week is worth 525$>Quick Gadgeteer: If you have the quick Gadgeteer advantage, multiply your man-time by 100.>You must have 20% in cost of the raw materials, then keep adding man-hours and man-days until you got the full price, then make a skill check.>If you have materials worth more than the minimum 20% you may use those to reduce the amount of time spent with man-hours.Example: Edgy Rapier costs 900. 900*20%=180 so you have 180$ worth of iron first, and then add 75$ every day until you reach 900, so it would take around 9 days to craft it. If you had the quick gadgeteer, your man-hour would be worth 1000$, allowing you to craft the rapier in a single hour!
>>97264800This is shit. Explain why it takes longer to cast gold than to cast iron.
>>97264872Sorry anon, let me correct myself.>CINEMATIC CRAFTING RULES>Your man-hour is worth $10.>Your man-day is worth 75$>Your man-week is worth 525$>Quick Gadgeteer: If you have the quick Gadgeteer advantage, multiply your man-time by 100.>You must have 20% in cost of the raw materials, then keep adding man-hours and man-days until you got the full price, then make a skill check.>If you have materials worth more than the minimum 20% you may use those to reduce the amount of time spent with man-hours.There, it's fixed. So weird how GURPS players seem to forget that their GENERIC UNIVERSAL RPG has cinematic rules.
>>97264916'It's CINEMATIC, so anything goes' is even worse than 'it's magic, I don't have to explain shit' or 'rule of cool, don't question me'. 'Cinematic' doesn't mean 'bullshit'. We've all seen films, and we're perfectly aware that there is no cinematic convention of more expensive materials taking longer to craft. It's just simplifying things to make them more convenient to gameplay, but there's no real reason to simplify crafting that much because you're dealing with something that takes hours or days of character time, so there's little pressure to rush to a quick answer.More importantly, it doesn't actually satisfy what OP asked. He wanted a system which had less reliance on item price, but your system is totally dependent on it.Unfortunately, all the published crafting systems are very reliant on prices. After the End 2 and Monster Hunters Power-Ups 1 have a version of crafting using existing items which works well for gadgeteers, and the latter and Meta-Tech have a method of converting advantages into $ value.

>>972647833e is more constrained in a lot of areas, at least in terms of how you interact in a practical manner. Like if you go toe to toe with a Solar, he's more than likely going to beat your ass at actually achieving the goals you set out to do. However, you do things in a weird, wacky woohoo way that tends to inflict collateral (literally or figuratively) in place of sheer effectiveness. You do have a few really interesting trump cards that are harder to deal with, but you're no longer changing the type of game that's being played.I don't remember any of the signatures
>>97262566>"Well it'll give mortals a way to attack long distances" which honestly how do you even argueYou remind the retard that bows and other ranged weapons already exist.
>>97264668Some people from the Realm are obviously irreverent, similarly to, say, how people in the Middle Ages weren't always good Catholics and might outright war with the Pope. Catholic Church was still a big deal in the Middle Ages, though, as is Immaculate Order in the Realm. A Solar appearing on the Blessed Isle and trying to get people to help him would be like Satan walking into a medieval village and going "Hey, I might be Satan, but I'm actually a good guy".>>97264674Immaculate Order offers education, charity, protection from rogue spirits, spiritual certainty and comfot - which actually does matter to people - rules and social pressure that keeps the worst excesses of the Dynasty more or less in check, and also monks frequently demonstrate against behavior of the ruling class thhey find immoral, inappripriate and un-Immaculate and sometimes side with peasants during peasant rebellions. The Order does plenty, and the setting in every edition is written with the assumption that people on the Isle do, by and large, take their faith seriously. As I said, it's obviously fine to change that if something else fits your game better, but it's a big change, and the default setting is still one where people, inlcuding Dragon-Blooded, genuinely believe in what the Immaculate Order teaches. Go read the sidebar "Constructed Belief" on page 70 of 1E's Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded>>97264723Realm's peasants obviously have a raw deal compared to modern-day Western world, but they're no worse off than peasants anywhere else in Creation. Which is not great because peasants in general aren't in a great position, but it's not like the Realm's an uniquely or even particularly terrible society for its own. Now, with social Charms a Solar obviously can swing pretty much any mortal to his side, but just starting glowing golden on the Isle and expecting peasants to decide that this guy is cooler than their current lords wouldn't work in the canon setting.

Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle. If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

Of course they do. Sometimes the problem is what it is the players should solve it in game. Sometimes it is an actual issue, but that doesn't mean the DM should be catering to the players' whims. That's like a child being given 100 dollars for a candy shop. Also, a good DM will simply give out the correct amount. No, what the players want, doesn't really matter. What they want is usually gay and infantile 90% of the time.>b-b-b-b-but it's all about funIf you want low-effort high-loot slop, then go play a video game. A good dungeon master wouldn't indulge those kinds of vidya-minded tards.>muh no true scotsman fallacyIf you don't believe in even semi-objective standards for good DMing, regardless of what playoids might want in the moment (again, a child craves to eat all the candy in the world, but the stomachache afterward will make him wish he hadn't), then I can't help you. You'll just reduce everything to subjectivity and use that to justify the mindset that the DM should suck off the players.

being a good DM/player is mostly attitude.I've DM'd for people who bragged about having decades of experience and they ended up being annoying problem players and I've DM'd for first time players who had great instincts and were a lot of fun to play with.most GM advice is common sense that anyone with social skills and storytelling ability will know.
