Everyone I know who watches Fatt Coville videos is a fucking terrible GM. I've never fully watched one and I am widely considered the best GM out of all 3 groups I'm part of. I am regularly requested to run campaigns. People borderline fall asleep in the games others run. There's also no tension because they know that these Coville acolytes will fudge rolls until all PCs survive the battle.

If you're a good GM, it's an inmate talent you can hone over time. You're born that way. If you aren't, then no amount of shitty advice is going to make up for your lack of talent. It just is what it is. This idea that everyone should "try" DMing is retarded. The idea that anyone can be good at it? lolno. Its like some fat divorced on who suddenly decides he's gonna become a famous author. Fat chance. Most people fucking suck at GMing. Hell, most of them suck at playing, but at least in that case the game depends less on them.

That's unfortunately, but they are trying and if you gently nudge them towards actually reading the GMing section in their system of choice, they will hopefully learn eventually. GMing is fucking hard and even if you are well versed in the rules, it is still something you can only get good at through lots of practice and lots of fucking up.

I remember having to fuck up half a dozen campaigns that either fizzled or crashed and burned before I ran a campaign so good that it kept going for 2 straight years.
>>
>>97231610
If someone doesn't have the ability to read the rules on their own then they are not cut out to GM
>>
>>97231712
They're just over eager. You don't have to handhold them, just strongly encourage them. It would help if you actually talked to them and told them that you have no interest in nannying them through every session.

I've been begging people to read the rules for every game we've ever played for years. It's just a genetic thing I think

Here is my idea for what I'm using for a fusion setting, but it can work for just Requiem. Tremere are both a Clan and a Covenant. They don't get favored Disciplines, but they do get favored Themes (leaning towards Creation, Destruction, Transmutation) from the blood sorcery book. I was thinking to lean into them being outsiders who forced themselves into Kindred society, they don't do typical Embraces. Instead, they use a ritual to turn people into vampires. Their Clan weakness is they occasionally have to do the ritual again, otherwise they turn into Revanents and their blood bonds start to decay until they can perform it again.

Their Bloodlines are created by master blood sorcerers who have pioneered new branches of Thaumaturgy and modified their embrace ritual to add another Theme to specialize in it. It's possible to instead add a Bloodline Discipline, but that is probably rare.

The Tremere were accepted into Kindred society because they agreed to teach sorcery to other vampires (they do of course keep the good stuff to themselves). The Covenant is called the Order of Hermes. The Thaumaturgy the Covenant teaches has the favored Themes of Destruction and Transmutation. Admittedly, the Destruction one is mostly because Theban Sorcery and Cruac don't have it as a favored Theme. Non-Tremere Covenant aligned Bloodlines probably have Bloodline Themes instead of Disciplines since they're focusing on magic.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

I'm honestly kind of baffled at the "OSR = chud" mindset. Most of my TTRPG friends are queer and we prefer to play old-school. We just finished up a delve into Caverns of Thracia (holy shit that one's a meatgrinder) run with AD&D.

Wilderlands of High Fantasy is cool, but I wouldn't say it's easily accessible. The information is scattered all over the place, often internally contradictory, and it doesn't help newbies figure out how to use the whole hot mess.

>Be Priscilla, Least Fortunate Woman in the Galaxy
>As I stand in the lobby, trying to think of the next phase of my plan, and dreading what bizarre incidents will happen on Nordica II this Candlemas, a pale skinned woman in white furs sweeps into the room at the head of a small group of drunken lackeys, tosses me a set of keys, and demands that I drive her to something called a “Blood Bowl Game” in the old Space Hulk wreck
>I briefly contemplate running or fighting, but the high heeled boots I acquired as part of my disguise aren’t well suited to either course of action, particularly as they don’t quite fit, and one of heels has a bit of a wobble
>And then one of the lackeys refers to the pale woman in white as “Cummissar” and I realize how laughably outclassed I am
>According to what little intelligence my superiors have managed to gather on the Schlick, the Cummissar is the leader of their paramilitary organization, and is a daemonette of significant power and cunning
>And a shape changer as well apparently
>Trying, and no doubt failing, to hide my horror and dismay, the best I can do is resist the urge to start crying, and to not cover myself with my hands as the Cummissar gives me a very thorough leer
>I wordlessly allow the group to lead me to the large limo in the parking garage, and manage to get the limo on the road without too many scrapes and bumps, usually people drive me, not the other way around
>I try my best to keep my eyes on the roads, but the moaning and slapping sounds from the back of the limo left little doubt as to what is going on back there
>But eventually the noises stop, either she tired her minions out, or worse, drained their souls until they became comatose
>And every time I looked in the rear view mirror following the ceasing of the sex noises, the Cummissar is staring at me hungrily
>>
>>97232481
>This is bad, perhaps even as bad as the string of events that had occurred when Happy Ending was invaded a few months back
>We arrive at the Space Hulk and I am shocked to see presumably normal Imperial citizens mingling with Orks, Gretchin, shamelessly underdressed members of the Schlick, and even a few Tau and Eldar
>Clearly at some point in my absence, the Lord General crossed the line between short term alliances with heretics and xenos, and outright heresy
>I guess I can’t throw stones given where I suspect my own employer’s loyalties to lie, and the several occasions in the past where I was temporarily enslaved by Orks, but I am dismayed by how clearly compromised Imperial rule of this planet has become. Any plans I had of sneaking off and notifying authorities completely evaporate
>I was hoping the Cumissar would let me stay in the limo, but instead she leaves her comatose minions behind and demands that I accompany her to her box seat instead, and the way she says it leaves no room for doubt on what activities she has in mind when we get there
>Fuck my life, times a million
>The walk to the box seat is simply brutal
>Despite the amount of effort I am putting into managing my mounting dread, I am painfully aware of how every human face that looks at me is either shamelessly leering or twisted up in disgust, and I get groped or spat on at least once every ten seconds
>The Orks and Gretchin seem to instinctively recognize my low status and more than a few times an Ork deliberately bumps into me and knocks me over like a bowling pin on the icy floor, or a Gretchin throws waste at me, to the cruel laughs of the others
>The Tau and Eldar just look at me like I am crazy, probably because even by the standards of the Schlick my attire is extremely unsuitable for the freezing conditions and icy floors of the Space Hulk
>>
>>97232493
>The Cummissar doesn’t seem to notice my discomfort, though no doubt she has plans to warm me up when we get to the box seat
>And here we are
>Like the rest of the arena, it is crudely fabricated from metal cut from the Space Hulk, with only a few pornographic paintings and a table full of drinks and “toys” denoting that this space has been set aside for a high ranking daemonette
>There are two armed guards here, and a scantily clad serving girl, but the Cummissar unfortunately just ignores them and indicates I should sit on the crude metal bench and watch the game which is just starting while she pours us some drinks
>The bench is so cold that it burns, and the game, which seems to be some Orkish equivalent to football, stops as soon as it starts, with two players arguing over some rule
>The Cummissar hands me a drink, puts a hand on one of my knees, but then leans forward and starts scanning the playing field for something
>fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuckuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
>By this point I am shaking uncontrollably from both fear and cold, and I have the most extreme case of goosebumps I have had since that one time I fell in a river on Damnatum Lutum during the middle of winter
>I silently pray to every god that might me listening that the Cummissar actually enjoys watching “Blood Bowl” and forgets about me, or if that is not an option, that some sort of distraction occurs that gives me a chance to escape

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

To steal from another wargame I've played, one of the factions can 'Evolve'.
Each unit has two things they can 'evolve' into. By default the player can evolve one unit a turn, but some abilities let them try to evolve more.

For example, their chaff unit has two evolutions
- Kill self and turn into a bunch of resource for the rest of the warband
- turn into another unit type, but keep the same hp

and another unit has these evolutions
- gain 1 HP and armour, attack deals significant extra damage under some conditions
- gain 2 HP, their other ability increases the damage and push distance a bit.

It's a Clasp of Protection from Evil
>>
>>97231781
>it's an anti-evil bonus damage aura or something?
Close, Protection against Evil. He bought it after noticing he kept getting dominated mid-fight (and out of fight due to Vampire Durkon)
>>
>>97231807
I guess he's still Evil then, despite all the apparent change lately
I suppose it's not so easy to switch alignment
>>
>>97231867
I expect he'll switch to neutral right before he dies. Some heroic sacrifice to save a teammate, or the like.

Use of the clasp being literal penance in preparation for an alignment shift might seem a little on-the-nose... Then you remember who's writing this.

MECTech is my system for mech-based combat.

Link to the rules that I'm about 80-90% finished with.

Why make an entire thread?
>Have enough content and questions to warrant it
>Hope to get enough criticism/feedback to gain the inspiration to finish it within the next day or so
>Main goal is just to talk about design philosophy with people
>The board is slow

Feel free to participate with questions or additions to any element of my system, or answers to questions that I ask. If you have your own design questions for TTRPGs, I'd be happy to give my 2 cents as well.

First topic presented for review will be my take on general actions and action economy which I think is moderately unique
>>
I don't really have any mecha based pictures so I'll just be using whatever

Player Turns
>Player turns consist of Full Actions, Quick Actions, Reactions, Free Actions
>Full/Quick/Free actions are about what you'd expect.

Reactions
>Pick your reaction, roll a d20 to see if it's successful, perform the reaction and roll any additional dice required(example, if you need to make an attack roll)
>Further separated into Delayed and Instant reactions
>Can be performed by anyone involved in the current Sequence(of events) as long as there's a triggering action
>Instant reactions happen BEFORE the triggering event concludes, while delayed reactions happen AFTER the triggering event
>Each additional reaction in the same Sequence has a +2 to the number you have to roll in order for it to be successful
>Only 1 of 5 pilot classes eventually gain the ability to have 2 reactions per turn instead of one
>Multiple Reaction options can be taken at once and performed simultaneously, but ALL options need to be successful or none are

Flow of gameplay

One of the big goals I wanted to achieve was to make the player's pilot character, and the player's mech feel like 2 halves of a single unit. Which leads me to my idea for the general flow of the game, as far as I'm concerned.

Out of MEC activity
>sessions or missions or however else you'd want to separate gameplay would start with out of MEC activity
>While out of combat, gameplay is more freeform with less rules
>Pilot character 'health' is measured in Fate points
>Fate points are used to perform activities, and you can lose more if you fail any attempts at something
>Losing all fate points means your pilot character is contextually 'unable to fight' (which could mean they're unconscious, wounded trapped, etc)
>The player can still participate in the MEC combat, but they'd have to play as some NPC substitute pilot with no bonuses
>The general goal of out of mec activity is to gather data or otherwise make the upcoming MEC battle easier

Pilot and MEC abilities
>MEC construction and loadout naturally determines what your MEC is capable of doing

I knew if I talked to the wall long enough I’d get a response sooner or later.

I see one of you made a ton of grammatical corrections to my document. I’m gonna delete all those corrections after I make the edits just so the document isn’t so crowded looking.

Bless your autism
