I would like to talk about the Chronicles of Darkness game line Deviant: The Renegades, or more specifically, one major upcoming supplement. Deviant was released in late 2021, and has had three additional sourcebooks since then. A new supplement, Black Vans, has been in playtesting for a while, and is currently being previewed.I am not being paid or sponsored to promote this book in any way. I am just very fascinated by it, and indeed, I already ran a mini-campaign using the playtest material.Deviant is, by default, a game about playing angsty, scarred superheroes who either fight world-manipulating conspiracies or work for them. Black Vans is a toolkit full of variant rules, quick NPC creation, variant character types, and variant genres. These variants range from the minor to the dramatic, completely overhauling what were once non-negotiable, foundational themes and mechanics. Maybe your character is not angsty or scarred at all, perhaps they are a """""regular human""""" like John Wick or Batman, or the campaign might have nothing to do with world-manipulating conspiracies. These variant genres include cyberpunk, high fantasy, post-apocalypse, space opera, and superhero emergence. This is a beefy supplement. For example, one chapter alone dedicates 38,000+ words to playing other monsters of the Chronicles of Darkness: Beasts, changelings, demons, Sin-Eaters, hunters (entirely separate from the variant rules for """natural""" superpowers), mages, mummies, Prometheans, vampires, and werewolves. No additional supplements beyond Deviant are necessary; the rules are self-contained, allowing the group to play a monster mash of an urban fantasy setting without needing a daunting 7+ books. And yes, they are supposed to be balanced against one another, so a vampire in the same group as a full-fledged mage is probably some older Kindred.(Continued.)
>>97217920I got an original kickstarter copy of Diviant for 30$ Seems not alot cares about it past the main "Meat" of the Fandom for CofD but it's a decent if a light on world building

>>97242591/tg/ as it is now, at least
>>97242578>it's a decent if a light on world buildingIt is supposed to be a toolkit RPG that expects the ST to do the work of fleshing out the Web of Pain. Even then, the core rulebook alone details four cities, each with their own conspiracies that make up a segment of the Web of Pain.Eric Zawadzki is currently writing Deep Dive, a supplement that fully fleshes out 40 conspiracies from Standing 1 to 10. It also has a full-on sample Web of Pain for STs who want something ready-to-go, spanning dozens of conspiracies.>>97242583Thank you.
What kind of fantasy monsters are you into? I like original abominations, standard humanoids/mythological creatures/giant animals are boring to me.
>>97240794Well I haven't done this very often so I don't know how useful my advice would be. But the way I approached it is very rooted in the specific context its made for. Tangleberries are meant to show up alongside the golem staff of the estate, now overgrown and corrupted by similar plants to the Tangleberries, so the dynamic of a fight with them would be intended to just be some otherwise relatively weak fighters with Tangleberries serving more as a big complicating issue. I had them made out of vines to make it more evident what its gimmick is. I don't think its the most radically original thing in the world, but its reflective of its context and hopefully does what it needs to do. I also think people are should be more willing to use vibrant colors for monsters, bright colors are also a sign of danger in the animal world, darkness has its place but its harder to make look distinct in my view. The best advice I can suggest is that nothing exists in a vacuum, and its a lot easier to create when you don't try to do it in an abstract, 'out-of-context' sort of way. Also, I think that a lot of D&D monsters could be cooler concepts if their names weren't terrible. A good name is important for conveying the grandeur and mystique of a proper fantasy creature, I think displacer beasts are actually really cool monsters cursed with a terrible name for example.

What I like most about Perchance is if you get a gen you like but it has one or two little flaws, you can grab it's seed & usually fix it. Or do stuff like swap the color of an outfit, or turn a wine glass into a mug, which I did a few threads back.
>>97242500It doesn't like combat. Death and blood are ok, but actual combat is pretty tough on it.Also it has the worst problem with visual depth of the popular tools. The primary focus is on an orc sitting in a fancy living room with digital holographic fire in fire place. The primary character is a tough looking, dark green skinned, orc woman. She has bubble gum pink well groomed finger nails, bright bubble gum pink lipstick, light green mascara, yellow eyes, small fangs visible outside her lips, and has beautiful blonde healthy hair in a poofy elegant hair style. She has large gold lightning bolt shaped earrings, silver choker necklace, hair bands made of obsidian shaped like thunder clouds, and is wearing a fashionable Christmas sweater vest with short wool knit skirt. She is wearing festive panty hose and barefoot. She is leaning her back on a comfortable cloth couch blowing a kiss. On her wrist is a large digital computer screen made of silver with a large sapphire display. The background is a digital wall display christmas tree with dancing holographic fairies and snowflakes. On the ground is a tiny smoking robot broken into pieces. She has yellow lightning dancing on the end of her fingertips. There are scorch marks on the carpet. The overall atmosphere is cheery, relaxed, and calm oriented.

>>97238095If anybody is curious what the statblock for a 7HD Worg looks like, they are kind of badass. The rules for monster advancement don't actually say that a size increase through natural advancement ever increases speed, but the templates that grant a size increase DO tend to increase speed. Sort of a judgement call I guess, but I opted to keep the base speed here.
>>97242572Shit I forgot Large gives -4 to hide so hide here is actually +0. Also, a Worg is actually Long not Tall so space/reach would be 10/5 not 10/10. Also just further food for though, there is a chart for typical speeds by size. If you assume that a large worg is also still in the "Fast" category you could easily justify the 60ft speed.
>>97242572Okay, Version 2.0 with fixed armor classes, updated speed, fixed space/reach, fixed a typo in saves, and fixed the skills. Sorry about the sloppy craftsmanship I just got really excited to post

This thread is all about solo games and campaigns. Midnight reading edition.>old thread >>96761554Resources: https://rentry.org/srpgghttps://infinityweavers.link/re-up/solo-rp-toolkitMore threads:https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/search/subject/%2Fsrpgg%2F/Thread Questions: How do you try to surprise yourself in solo games?
This is possibly a silly question, but for those soloing games with target numbers for dice rolls (skill checks, etc.) do you have any particular tricks or rules of thumb for generating them or do you just go for your best judgment as though you were normally GMing? I'm on my second session of my first real attempt at a solo game (Worlds without Number using MUNE) and I can't help but feel like I'm just kind of fumbling on unopposed rolls where if I was making these same calls for actual players I'd be way more confident. Everything else feels pretty great so far.
>>97241929Use a standard scale, like d20 roll over mork borg’s scale for example, and then tweak it as things make sense in your situation or worldJust outline like 4 numbers, so a child’s play, an easy, a normal, and a hard. From there, you can start from one of the four generally based on vibes and slide it up or down if you think it’s appropriate. More often than not I don’t slide it.
>>97241272I do things like that, or if the room description piques my interest I'll work out something with that. like sometimes it says something about "torches flickering" or wahtever, I'll do an oracle roll to see if they're torches I can swipe or whatever. tapestries, I can try to pull them down on the enemy to encumber them. just going outside the core gameplay loop
>>97237792>>97237899RIP in pieces
I feel sort of lost with solo rpgs. I just moved to a new residence that is far more stable and solitary but I don't have much room and I didn't bring any rpg systems with me. I did bring dice though. I'm just not really sure how I actually want to play solo and so it's kind of tough.

Genuine question, do BFG players actually like the old sculpts? Even back in the 2000s (roughly the time period between 4th and 5th of 40K) and I went into shops and saw the BFG blister packs, I thought the imperial ship models looked like metal lumps of shit, and they haven't changed much since then.

Merry Mecha Christmas, hope you guys had a good day.Could I get some feedback on some Lancer maps and design I made for a mission set? I'm doing tile-less so ignore the squares. The scenario is assaulting a port town, I tried to incorporate a good amount of hard and soft cover for both sides along with blocking terrain. NPC placements aren't final but obviously they'll come from various places in 2.1st scene is Demolition, players go in across a minefield to try to demo an enemy command structure, taking out 5 support pillars, naval artillery tries to target players hanging out in the back, bonus objective is to extract some sabotaged materials that will go bad in a few turns, will give extra building points for next scene.2nd scene is Nexus Defense with some NPC support, players make their defensive line from a premade bunch of buildings, enemies come in waves and try to destroy player's command building, players can rush out to grab stuff that higher threat enemies drop on kill to get reserves as a bonus objective, artillery still going at it but can't damage the Nexus itself. 3rd scene is Control, players go in and try to capture the naval artillery while its occupied with an NPC army off screen, they have to either fly or swim around to get to the ships off of the coast, there's an ultra or elite enemy in the water depending on how they do up to that point that grabs them and tries to drag them under and do damage with grapple stuff, bonus objective is to disarm a time bomb on some cargo that gives repair caps.4th scene is a straight brawl against rivals plus some story NPCs, wanted to make it sort of unbalanced at the start so they have to scramble for cover or make their own, bonus objective is to destroy/capture an enemy officer that's trying to run away during the fighting for narrative rewards.Apologies for the chromatic aberration, I only noticed it recently when making the collage
