Projectile speed cannot be calculated by their max range in hexes because their max range in hexes is not supposed to represent the projectiles traveling at maximum speed over 10 seconds to their maximum range.
Maximum weapon range in TT was never supposed to be interpreted as the actual maximum range of weapons in-universe and that much is stated, it's an abstraction for the sake of gameplay and not requiring a gargantuan mapsheet to play the game.
Range is to be assumed significantly longer and accuracy significantly hampered by in-universe ECM making most forms of automatic guidance and computerized information gathering unreliable at best.
>>
>>97242920
The hard truth in Battletech is that the tabletop game and the lore have only an aesthetic connexion and are otherwise unrelated.
>>
>>97242963
Not an acceptable answer.
>>
>>97242963
The even harder truth is that any setting with more than one writer + decades of time is just chinese whispers and re-interpretation anyway. You could ask two different official current battletech writers and they'd probably give you different answers, and they'd probably be different to what you'd get if you asked any of the original guys.

It's not "slavery" she's a DeadAss (Dedicated Asset) basically an indentured servant whose contract is own by a conglomerate so she gets shifted around to different horrible jobs as the contract for her labor is bought & sold. She's hoping to pay off her families 100 year mortage before she dies. It's a compliance collar most deadasses wear. Try to take a break longer than what corporate alloted? You get shocked. Try to break a law? You get shocked. Try to go outside the permitted live-work area? You get lit up like that youtubers dog. They track your movement & vitals through it too. All that Apple watch tech evolved into orwellian monitoring.

Why the FUCK is his power armor broken? The Badab War was 100 years ago. This dude leads a legion-sized band of space marine pirates and is one of the wealthiest and most powerful space marine lords in the setting, on par with chapter masters of the first founding chapters.

WHY THE FUCK WOULD SOMEONE NOT HAVE FIXED HIS POWER ARMOR. Does GW even know their own fucking setting anymore?

>>
>>97242133
Some novels like the night lords trilogy shows a lot of warbands and legions are poor af and just scavenge to maintain their armory. Also they're all selfish and keep loot for themselves rather than sharing. Most of their time is spent raiding to maintain equipment rather than actually fighting.
>>
>>97242133
>>97242176

a better question is why is his power armour? because when he got shot he was wearing terminator armour and larping as an Aquilon Custodian
>>
>>97242133
Jesus christ, this is such a downgrade from the previous model.

That's cool and all, but Huron "Big Dick" Blackheart could order a stack of power armor up to the ceiling be presented to him and then pick out whatever he likes.

Recently I was thinking about alternative combat systems.

I remember someone talking about instead of HP the payer has a Jenga tower and he needs to remove peaces once hit, the skill is to remove peaces without the tower collapsing

So I started thinking.
For example what if the combat somehow involves cups and balls?

Instead of a D20+modifier nonsense why not change it up? Why not give a player 10 balls or legos or whatever and to win an encounter the player needs to land 2 balls in 1 cup?

There can be variants of this like a super hard encounter demands the player lands all 10 balls or what about reducing the size of the cup with the difficulty of combat?

What if we implement a fate system from Talisman for the players? What if legendary bosses have something like that for themselves? And can negate the players victory?

What if different monsters use different "balls" like for example some bone golems will be you throwing legos into cups and zombies are aluminum balls while naga can be gummy bears? That actually makes the monster feel different and not a copy pasted set of numbers. Also the different aerodynamics of these "balls" are part of the fun.

I only played one game, so I don't know if it's representative of how it is supposed to go. The scenario was a group of people being hunted by a horror movie style super murderer. It was a long time ago, but I think we were competing to be the sole survivor and would get hard choices where we could risk a better outcome by pulling a Jenga stick. If the tower fell your character was got by the killer.
>>
If you're so big on how people should improve their skills, maybe you should improve your English.
>>
>>97238257
The Jenga tower mechanic you refer to is used in Dread, which is specifically a horror game. The purpose of it as a resolution mechanic is that it inherently builds tension over the course of a session, which feeds into the nature of horror as a genre.

In games without a similar genre convention that needs to govern the flow of emotional energy, consistent randomization like dice makes more sense because it serves equally well in all scenarios.

The ball-and-cup method you've described doesn't really play into any specific genre convention. Each toss is still a discrete event, so it doesn't have a linearity the way there is with Dread. In fact, if anything, it would interrupt the session more often than not, what with people needing to physically move around to the throwing position, retrieve their balls, and reset the cups.

Was it fun?

Like I was saying this scene inspired me to think about this mechanic.

It will never be
>Oh fuck a demon lord drooped there is no way my characters attack + D20 max can kill him I am dead. GG Everyone!

it will me
>Oh fuck a demon lord drooped, how the fuck will I manage to get a perfect 10/10 into this tiny cup?!
>Player sweats
>Player tries to land every ball
Theoretically it is possible to win this however it is extremely unlikely. So every scenario can be won. The middle ground is if you fight some ogre and the difficulty ramps up so you are not throwing small balls into giant baskets you are throwing balls into small baskets.

Why?
Rice are random and whiel the cup and balls is also random your skill and concentration can help you get better outcomes.

Previous Thread: >>97090196

Welcome to /un0/, an RP thread for playing a World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness Hunter. For any OOC questions about WoD/CofD, check the official general. >>97224887

Rules:
>We are acephale. There is no storyteller, we are not a quest.
>This thread is based primarily but not exclusively in the nWoD/CofD game Hunter: the Vigil. However, Vigil is defined by being highly setting agnostic, with a system for creating entirely custom monsters that do not exist in other WoD/CofD games. Thus, you have significant freedom in what you want to play and what you want to hunt. Feel free to play a member of the Society of Leopold, or a member of the Lucifuge hot on the tail of a Lasombra.
>Namefagging is encouraged but by no means mandatory.
>Keep in mind that even highly experienced Hunters typically only have fractured pieces of the puzzle, and every table has their own canon. The night is dark and full of misinformation.
>/un0/ is conceived of as an experimental end to end encrypted program that is very hard to compromise, retains very little data and purges that data regularly. Please play an actual Hunter.
>Spoiler any OOC discussion.

Happy hunting.
Unless this thread somehow takes off like a rocket, this will be the last un0 thread for the foreseeable future. Towards the end of the thread, please give your feedback in regard to these shorter, limited run RP threads.

Thanks for your concern, I'm somehow okay. Lots of shit going on, making my migraine worse. The enfield monster ambushed us when we were leaving the hospital. It was out for Pilgrim personally, I think. Ever since that night when he killed the first one. I was reviewing his trail cam footage. When Pilgrim slipped in the mud, I think he accidentally avoided the monster's attack. It was going to avenge its fallen comrade, but Pilgrim fell and the monster ended up flying over him and hitting that cop. Since then it had probably been hiding, waiting for him to show up again. Maybe followed the cops to the hospital. Pilgrim was scared out of his mind when we were with him, never seen him cry like that, I think partially due to those men who were taking him away, if you can call them that, but also maybe he knew that the beast was coming back for him. He had a window in his room. Shit idk. He didn't make it, I guess is what I wanted to say. And we lost two other men in the hospital. The only one of us who overheard their conversation was killed in the shootout. When we were leaving the hospital, Page exchanged fire with two more men. She says they had a stretcher with a tarp cover. They must've come up from the morgue, where the first enfield was stored. Town's also been cut off by the actual? feds or more of our mystery bad guys? After taking a look at the last thread, it's possible we've stumbled upon a bigger group of hunters with less than noble intentions.
I think the situation is out of our scope and control. The rest of the guys think so too. It's time we lay low, reassess... everything. Looking at the silver lining, we've killed two monsters preying on the innocent and unveiled something even worse. That's gotta be worth something. I'm going to post my notes on the monsters for future use, hopefully it doesn't need to be referenced.
This is going to be my last couple of post here for a while. Merry Christmas. And godspeed.

Enfield Monster
-reported encounter april 25, 1973 - enfield, illinois
-encountered firsthand - dec 2025 -
-details from reported case are similar to what was encountered recently
-approx 5.5 feet tall
-human-like torso, hunched over
-large mouth, sharp teeth, bite is capable of breaking firearm and doing heavy damage to steel plate body armor
-two large, pink/red, glowing eyes. glow visually oscillates, like cuttlefish? hypnosis when looking directly into eyes, maybe close range? also can possibly inflict a sort of hysteria and amnesia afterwards, similar to werewolves? I was hypnotized during last encounter-- body cam footage shows me sinking to my knees and dropping my rifle. Doesn't immediately wear off after creature is killed. I'm being monitored for long term effects.
-3 legs, capable of delivering lethal kick. can also grab and lift full grown woman with leg.
-2 short arms, sharp claws
-footprints 5+ toes?
-can leap vert/horiz 20+ feet. don't know about other movement.
-horiz leap capable of knocking over full grown man.
-no hair, leathery, gray. blends in well with trees. this with the big eyes might be why it was dismissed for an owl in 1973.

Been a few days. Mostly beaten the infection. Felt good enough to go to a Christmas party. Probably a mistake, there were some people there nobody in town knew, kept catching them shadowing myself and a few others. Fucking feds. Gave them the slip on the way back to Fort GNP, and I haven't seen anyone poking around on my security cameras. Still mulling over my options. Driving me up the wall.

>>97227916
The converted humans came out of the water and climbed aboard rapidly, likely the same with the walking squid. We think the derelict is a trap to lure in sailors for more people to convert. One of us had the bright idea to light up the boat beneath the waterline while we fled, several days later it's gotta be sunk, guy had a machinegun, like an old M60 I think. Can't say I know any wizards.

>>97228548
While you're probably right, there's a few practical problems. One, all I ever hear about the feds is how they're in bed with the monsters. Two, I have done things that could get me fired or worse while working for the much more mundane federal government. Fort GNP is a wonderful place, it's also incredibly illegal. Been wondering if there would be a way to safely leak information on that thing to the MIBs.

>>97233356
I got a cellmate looking into some old whaling gear, from before it got banned, to see if any of it is usable. I'd rather not Ahab it, but if we could harpoon it and slam it into an iceberg or drag it into the pack ice that might work.

thats how I felt a little bit ago, hadn't had any success getting anything going. People usually model their Master of Signals as some big nerd with lots of bulky or impractical com equipment, but now that it only has a command vox relay does it not make sense to have a secret-agent-man space marine? It only gets a pistol so why not have a sneaky-beakie marine with his fancy socom pistol that can be anything from a vokite to a disintegrator or just a bolt if you're classic.

Genuine question, do BFG players actually like the old sculpts? Even back in the 2000s (roughly the time period between 4th and 5th of 40K) and I went into shops and saw the BFG blister packs, I thought the imperial ship models looked like metal lumps of shit, and they haven't changed much since then.
>>
>>97242386
I never got into BFG because neither imperial not chaos ships appealed to me. Too big, too gribbly, looked bad if done quickly by drybrushing, and painting them nicely would take too long for models I didn't like anyway. The one faction I liked the look of (Eldar) was unavailable locally at the time. Plus IIRC at that time I was still seething about them axing MoW
Now that there are various third-party STLs available I might give it a look if I happen to find an oldhammer group playing it.

I'm working on mine. 36 figures is kind of a lot, especially considering they're all different and I don't want to do up my medieval peasants and watchmen as some kind of football uniformed team. I'm a beginner painter as well.
You need a ton of terrain for this game. It's supposed to be pretty fun though, I'll get to actively posting in this thread when I have played some actual games. Rn just under half the box is painted. I'm using the old Catan cardgame art for inspiration which is fun and nostalgic.

Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial:http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

What have you done for Calibration in your campaigns? And have you ever used Five Days Darkness?
>>
>>97241846
I've never really heacily featured Calibration in my games. I've had Calibration-adjacent things, and plothooks sort of cause by Calibration, though. One game featured a city-state close to a Shadowland where Calibration was time when dead relatives walked out of the shadowland to walk among their living kin. Player characters, who were Dragon-Blooded and in various degrees into Immaculate Faith, put an end to it. The same game had a bit with a village that had been taken over by a teodozjia who'd slipped out of Malfeas during last Calibration. Players put an end to that, too. I've had no real big in-game happenings during Calibration itself, however.

With all the infernals talk I saw one or two threads ago that Devil Body Incarnation wasn't well received in Essence, how would you fix it if you didn't like it ?
>>
How do I learn to talk like an Exalted character? When I'm with my group they all use fantasy lingo and it makes me feel like I'm writing a romantasy or CW character, ashamed.

I just talk like a Sopranos character but not italian.

We've reached the point where GMs are now producing AI slop responses both in and out of character.

That's fair, but I feel like I am improving. I find that the AI has to add less and less as I become more and more familiar with all the details and how to implement them properly.
>>
>>97239607
Like I said, no moral judgement. The only thing I would claim is that improving your skill in wielding AI isn’t the same as improving your ability to do the thing that you’re adjudicating to the AI, but if it works then it works

Who is we? I haven't. I'm playing at my own table with my friends, and we don't do whatever you are complaining about. So it sounds like a you problem.

>This game takes place in the world of Dispatch—a living, breathing city where danger erupts without warning and heroes are the thin line holding everything together. I’ll be your DM, but in this world, you’ll know me as your Dispatcher.
[...]

>Your missions will range from capturing dangerous villains to rescuing civilians, stopping escalating threats, uncovering hidden plots, or confronting unknown anomalies. Dispatch calls don’t wait. They hit fast, loud, and unpredictable. When that call goes out, you suit up, step forward, and answer it.

>Using Daggerheart’s Duality system—Hope and Fear—we’re shaping a flexible, evolving ruleset that grows with both the world and your characters. Every mission will test your skills. Every choice will shape the city around you. And as the story unfolds, we’ll refine and expand the system together, adapting it to the heroes you become.

>This is a world where your decisions matter, where Hope fuels your rise, where Fear pushes back, and where every Dispatch shapes the next chapter. You’re not just playing a character. You’re becoming a symbol.

I like it, because it means some blue haired "social media manager" gets fired.
