>>97245902>>97245933Oh wait, I see what you mean...Well, I would think a team of specialists is better than a team of vanilla troopers, right?
>>97245945>>97245933>>97245902There's only four specialists in the team: knife-ritualist, stalker-climber, bruiser, and harpoon-gunner. Out of these, the harpoon-gunner sucks the most; it does not shooting damage and the dragging ability is nothing-burgers. Second worst is the knife-ritualist because keeping one dude as support in an eight member melee team is like leaving a model at home. The Bruiser is the very good one, the climber-stalker is also good but only outside of close quarters maps.

Counteract should be removed from the game since Elites are always powerful enough compared to Hordes.

I refuse to believe Halo Flashpoint is even a 10th as successful as Mantic claims. In terms of online, easy to find metrics it has:3100 people as part of its sub(P)reddit.2100 or so people as part of Facebook Groups. No one discussing it on Twitter gets many likes/comments/retweets.No one big or well known talks about/plays it on Youtube.Yet it's one of the fastest growing and more popular tabletop games to come out recently?I don't buy it.I don't hate the system, but I am baffled by Mantic's ability to get away with lying about how successful this game is.

They could right their wrongs and ban every card from oko up until the most recent set, apologize, and go back to making mtg cards. But they won't. Not because they can't. But because they're a skinned sock puppet of a company with hasbros hand so far up their ass that it's controlling their mouth.
Being single on Christmas was really lonely. I don't know why. I started missing my ex and thinking about texting her, even though she probably blocked me. I got 2 booster packs of nu Tarkir and didn't get anything good. Which is fine. I tried to think about Thalia so I wouldn't miss my ex. At least that's a more familiar pain, the longing for her love which I will never have. I don't think any of my irl girlfriends ever loved me either. Its snowing here and imagining being curled up with Thalia by the fire, seeing the orange light on her buttermilk hair, running my fingers through it, kissing her soft cheek, would be so nice.

>>97248731To play doubles advocate I imagine the profits from the epub versions of the rule books isn't massive given how how they are priced deterring sales. So overall cancelling epub is equates to a cost reduction overall. On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.
>>97240164Any sufficiently weird human civilization is indistinguishable from an alien one.On the rare occasion I wish to depict a truly alien life-form I don't give them speaking parts, because any dialog I write is informed by me being a human being with a human perspective; I literally cannot create anything that is truly alien to the human condition, because if I can experience it, then it is within the scope of human understanding.I just think there's more of interest when you take a human mind and remove it even further from it's natural context.Like a posthuman civilization composed entirely of space-faring cyborgs in non-humanoid bodies, that spend most of their eons-long lives drifting through space, eternally dreaming in low-power mode.I can imagine what it would be like to be such a being better, to get into it's "character" which is ultimately derived from humanity itself. On the other hand, if I try to narrate the internal dialog of an alien tubeworm that evolved clinging to a sea-floor smoker, I'm going to anthropomorphise it no matter what I do - humans can only think like humans."Truly alien" aliens are as such, better as inscrutable mysteries and nigh on forces of nature. If you want your aliens to be basically goofy humans in motivation and outlook, star-trek rubber forehead alien is basically visual code for just that.
>>97246364Everyone obviously has their own personal opinions, but as a general rule 1, 3, 5, Generations, and Insurrection are considered bad by the general populace, while 2, 4, 6, and First Contact are considered good.Galaxy Quest is obviously good; Nemesis is obviously bad, so inserting Galaxy Quest preserves a trend that had already been observed for decades by that point.Once you get to the Kelvinverse I think broadly speaking people will agree that the 2009 movie is a lackluster Trek film but a serviceable sci-fi action movie that did its job of getting people interested in Star Trek again.Into Darkness is 9/11 Trutherism: the Movie on top of the problems surrounding it trying to recapture the Khan magic with precisely the wrong actor cast as Khan. Benedict Cumberbatch isn't even *bad* as Khan, he just absolutely should not have been him.Star Trek Beyond is good, with the new actors all firmly settled into their roles, everyone getting a chance to shine, and on a personal note watching it literally made me a better person due to my overall relationship with Trekkies up until that point.Note that even though some of these movies are "bad", though, they can still be fun to watch. Search for Spock is great; I love Kruge as a villain. And I will die on the hill that Trek V has three good scenes, and while it's bad it is never *boring*, which is more than can be said for Trek 1 or Insurrection.Trek 1 is best described as a movie that wants very, very badly to be 2001: A Space Odyssey, without actually understanding what makes that movie a good one.
Traditional games?
>>97242723Ferengi are like the only interesting alien in star trek.Maybe klingons when the writers remember that you need something else beside warriors to make a civilization.
Writers who primarily write fantasy fiction should simply not be creating alien races. They're too concerned with things like "how will the reader feel" "how well do they work in interactive scenes" and stupid bullshit that has nothing to do with sci-fi. Aliens should be designed from a sci-fi fantastical point of view. Their physiology and behavior should stem primarily from the thought "what would intelligent life look like on another world" and not "what should intelligent life look like to casual players?". This is just another example of fantasy writers being unintelligent hacks who are incapable of true imagination. Everything has to be carefully crammed into a little box that they decided has to be based on a specific theme and genre created in the 20th century.
What kind of fantasy monsters are you into? I like original abominations, standard humanoids/mythological creatures/giant animals are boring to me.

>>97228517Scary animals with a quirk. Give me a giant boar with antlers, a wolf with two sets of jaws, a two-headed deer, or make something breath fire. The further it gets from being a real animal, the less interesting it is.>>97248185Berzerk's quality is all over the map. There are arcs that are pretty good. There's a shit ton of perv-for-perv's sake, and edge-for-edge's sake. The attempts at humor are god-awful. The stories are meandering. Some of the characters are well developed. Most aren't. The art is beautiful.I think "well-realized" is probably the right complement for it. There aren't many issues of Berzerk that are, themselves, amazing as anything other than cool art. But 10,000 pages in, yeah: he spent a helluva long time realizing his idea, and it's impressive.
>>97228517I'm a fan of things that poorly pretend to be other things. You can barely tell that the chest is a mimic because it is breathing. You can barely tell that a person is a skinwalker because the proportions are slightly off. Things like that.
>>97248740Or the Marxist academic making (((my fellow whites))) posts on twatter.
Is your character someone commoners would like off first-impression?
>>97246941Nah, I always have CHA as my dump stat, and my characters are always some sort of social outcast, frequently for good reasons, ranging from.>Violent foreigner with barbaric customs>Worships an evil god>Practices black magic>Is a member of an "Always chaotic evil" race played straightGenerally speaking, my characters join the party as a third-wheel with ulterior motives, and any encounter where I get to play "Face" is going to be turned into a farce, as roleplaying my character takes precedent over choosing the obvious correct action.Random peasants however, tend to be poor sport, and I see them as a walking signpost to a more interesting encounter to fuck up on purpose.
