It wouldn't necessarily have to have the logic OF OUR WORLD.
Because fantasy is the faculty or activity of imagining things, especially things that are impossible or improbable.
It can have things that are:
>natural to it and natural to us
>unnatural to it and natural to us
>natural to it and unnatural to us
>unnatural to it and unnatural to us

I'm not going to waste my time explaining it yet again.
>>
>>97266432
>It wouldn't necessarily have to have the logic OF OUR WORLD.
Irrelevant. Logic is logic. I don’t care how alien it is. The beauty of magic and the supernatural is that it’s relative, not literal. How else do you think fiction works? One fiction’s concepts/contents are not going to be another fiction’s concepts/contents. What is magic in one setting is not going to be magic in another. Even the ability to manipulate the four classical elements is not necessarily going to be regarded as magical. It might be TOO natural. Far too casual. It’s just something people do.

Magic, like power, is relative. This is why there’s such an overlap with superpowers and concepts of “knowledge is power”. If everyone is super, no one is super, and it is the same with magic—unless society is continuing to use the word as a reference point for wonder and wisdom, or mystery and mastery, etc. Because even in a true Atlantean-esque era like our own, people aren’t going to be convinced of the sheer wonder and amazement they were born to. They’re too used to it. They’re far too exposed. It’s far too natural, casual. But even magic in the past was seen as this natural field. It’s ironic.

I wish people would understand just how magical (and accursed) the internet is

Nothing in our world can BE magical, because everything in our world IS natural or a product of nature.
Magic's state of being in a world must be beyond or removed from its nature, in order for it to BE magic.
State of being isn't about whether or not little Timmy thinks red doesn't exist just because he's color blind, or that we call it red because that's what we see, it's about the energy itself being radiated that registers as red to those who aren't handicapped. Regardless of whether or not you can see it, the energy is still there.

▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop miniature brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful Kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

Prologue Narration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNLc8dHv0Ac

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

Adam's never making anything but Monster, is he?
>>
>>97269759
Nope. And honestly, I think another reason the expansions are delayed so much and content comes at a snail's pace is because Poots doesn't want KDM to end. It's his baby and without it, he (and KDM) will drift into obscurity and irrelevance.
>>
>>97269759
Well, pinups are not for Monster even tho some have promo cards. But yeah, it's his life now. Pretty good imo. Other than that, I can see licensed 3rd party studios making vidya, ttrpgs, etcetc.
>>
Every time I hunt spidicules I regret it. My best survivor has two broken legs now from the pit, all because he stole my survivor with tumble who WOULD HAVE been the event revealer right before I rolled the pit, and now since i only had 3 survivors I had to push everyone to get through the forest wants what it wants and the broken leg guy's starting the showdown with 3 bleeding tokens. FUCK SPIDICULES

The DM reveals that all this time, the 'Chaotic Evil invading soldiers' you've been fighting and slaughtering were actually Lawful Good innocent untrained peasants. They were tricked/convinced into believing they were fighting for survival and defense of their impoverished homeland.

Ok, exactly fucking how do you rationalize this?
>>

Men are always stronger than women. ANY time there is a power disparity during sex, genuine consent cannot be given. Therefore since men are always stronger than women, any sexual contact between men and women is inherently rape, because the woman is physically unable to grant genuine consent.

And since all sex between men and women is rape, and rape is always an Evil act, and the paladin is knowing engaging in sexual congress with his wife, the Paladin has knowingly committed an Evil act and therefore falls.

as a player, i have no desire to play anything but a man. i don't really know how to explain it outside of "it feels weird" despite doing it all the time as a gm.

On the spectrum of rubber forehead aliens to complete starfish aliens that are made out of silica and breathe methane, where are YOU specificially comfortable with. Does there come a point where an alien becomes too weird for you to "relate" to in order to include them in your games as playable races?

Personally I am fond of aliens that look plausibly like they could have evolved in a different world and have no distinguishable lineage to earth life, even if they share some superficial features.

>>
>>97264811

Should have made them with two pairs of tits (the long torso could clearly accomodate that) ... would have been waaay cooler.
>>
In my book, any kind of alien can work, so long as their tech level is believable. While the Birrin feel like they've been designed with features that only exist for weirdness' sake, it's the natural way their biological quirkiness is presented in mundane scenarios that make them work. It's when an extremely animalistic-looking species has quirks that feel wholly unsuited for using the technology they have that starts to feel weird. Either the tech needs to feel ergonomic for them, or they need to show visible difficulty using it. Despite all this, it's pretty easy to handwave how an alien can use what it's got if it has tentacles.

The game Endless Space 2 has a lot of atypical aliens, like cephalopods forced onto land (Niris), sentient Amoeba gestalt consciousnesses and tardigrade meteorologists (Kalmat), not even mentioning the ones from other dimensions, though many are the result of meddling from another advanced civilization in their development. They might have a single text box worth of exploration into their culture for you to read as the start of a quest, and a civic project you can enact relating to integrating them into your culture. I think the biggest issue I have is the annoying number of the races (especially the major ones) with very cybernetic looking "default" features, and it makes it feel way too on the nose that they were messed with by the titular Endless. Still, I really hope we get something like Star Control for the franchise at some point to more closely explore all the novel ideas the game presents on the macro level. Been thinking to maybe add some elements from the games to a Stars Without Number campaign.

Colors are colors, and a brand won't necessarily have a good tone I might want. But past experiences and especially local availability can play a part. Latter is why I've got a few odd VGC paints, but that said I haven't given Tamiya a proper go despite a toy shop having a good selection there.

What is the best TTRPG for a Kenshi Campaign?

>>97261064
The point very much includes the matter of options NOT to use, thus Basic covering an enormous amount of ground is part of the problem. Because the POINT of GURPS is that it's not specific to any particular subset of TTRPG design space, and thus to support a specific theme the end user has to undertake no small amount of design work pruning what doesn't fit.

All the discussion has been what enormous mounds of content apply, none of the detail of what to remove that's needed to actually assure the campaign fits Kenshi in particular.
>>
>>97257329
Basic Set can do most games, I mean it's nearly 600 pages ffs

Not really? It's a little more involved in chargen if your players are the type to start buying TL12 disintegrators just because it's in the book.

>In the dungeon's mossy depths, the orc's breath misted in the damp chill. She knelt beside the drow warrior, watching silver light from a distant crack trace the contours of obsidian skin. A trickle of violet-black blood wound its way from the corner of the drow's mouth. The orc leaned closer, inhaling. Her pulse quickened; her fingers curled into fists, then slowly unclenched. She moved forward on calloused palms and bent knees, the rough leather of her armor creaking with each shift of weight. The unconscious drow's lips parted slightly as the orc's shadow fell across her face. The orc hesitated, then pressed her mouth against the drow's, tasting copper and salt. The kiss was raw and possessive, her sharp teeth grazing the drow's lower lip as she growled deep in her throat; a sound that declared ownership. Her victory, her prize, her conquest to devour. Her rough hands found the curve of hip, the hollow of collarbone. Outside, water dripped steadily from stone to stone, marking seconds that stretched into minutes as the space between their bodies disappeared.

If you are afraid of telling people you like tabletop, you are the socially maladjusted weirdo. You're just so mentally ill that you don't realize it.

Also, it isn't merely about being accepted. If you are charismatic, then your hobbies not only become acceptable, but also desirable. It's how advertising works, dimwit. Wanting to attach yourself to fashionable hobbies to appear better than you are is social bottomfeeding.

Tabletop only ensures being with weirdoes if you lack the social competence to convince the people you want to be with.

There are Disney canon things mentioning how the Jedi have a wide array of investments, which they allow the Republic to manage. Sort of like how the UK has the Crown Estate which technically belongs to the King but he by custom and tradition and convention hands over to the government to manage.

Jedi also don't draw any salaries. Any government on Earth would salivate at the notion of getting peak educated space wizard monks to do all their diplomacy for them FOR FREE. Pay for a building base (that the Jedi owned outright for 25k years anyway, they're signing over premium Coruscant real estate TO YOU), for travel budget (which all government diplomats would get anyway, and Jedi are much better at the job), and you don't even need to pay them wages? How good is that? Just declare a couple planets like Ilum nature reserves for the Jedi and you're off to the races.

>How much meta chasing is there in SWL?
Kind of depends on your community, Anon. But It's nowhere near the competitive level of 40k. In my experience, there are plenty of casual players If you stick to smaller tournaments and leagues, rather than the big, important tournaments.

>How balanced is the game?
Pic rel. All proper factions are within 48-54% winrate. AMG has a tendency to do small points updates every 3-6 months.
>Are all lists viable, or do you just HAVE to take certain units?
Of course, the game rewards good listingbuilding. It kind of depends on the faction, but all factions have multiple kinds of competitive lists:
>CIS
The one faction where every unit besides the bounty hunters is playable. Geonosian spam, mad max lists with wheel grievous and STAPs, Kalani gunlines with ion spiders, it's all good.
>Empire
The have a few godawful units like the inquisitiors or ISF, but there are still a few vastly different viable ways. Stormtrooper battalion lets you put something like 70 stormtroopers on the table while giving them the right buffs, Tempest Force lets you spam AT-STs, Remnant has dark troopers and lets you mix different infantry units with each other.
>GAR
While they do have quite a few too expensive units, there are several ways to play. 212th battalion can do armor spam with Cody, you can do sniper spam with Commandos and Arcs, hyper Aggressive lists with Anakin and Bad batch, they can do some very strong melee beat stick units with Shotgun clones + Ahsoka/fives

>How balanced is the game? Are all lists viable, or do you just HAVE to take certain units?
Well balanced. There is only like 3 underperforming units (Wookies, Rebels commandos and Inquisitors) but they are still very usable.
>Do scenarios affect gameplay a lot, or do you just basically want to wipe the enemy?
A lot imo. You still want to be killing stuff but it may sometimes be more beneficial long-term to capture a point or grab the secret intel dropped by an enemy.
>Also wot are the factions like
Each has a niche but can do most things.
Rebels have fragile but very mobile and lethal units. Their heroes and elite units typically fight at closer range with melee weapons and pistols. Their vehicles are very different from other factions' since they don't really have any big tank, just speeders and an APC.
The Empire has tankier units that don't shoot as well. Their heroes are mostly officers that help their troops, bounty hunters focused on killing other heroes or Vader/Inquisitors who fight in melee. Most of their generic units are focused on shooting at medium to long range. They can make lists focusing on armors with 3 AT-STs or armies that spam stormtroopers.
The Republic is the elite faction. Their clones are tanky, shoot well and are good in melee, but you'll usually have fewer soldiers and their vehicles are better but cost more points. Their heroes are mostly Jedi who fight in melee or support their clones. They also have some clone heroes more focused on support.
Separatists get a bit of everything. Cheap but fragile units like B1s, Geonosians or STAPs but also tanky elite units like the AAT, B2s or Magnaguards but droids rely more on their commander to give orders. Their heroes are also very varied with a lot of lightsabers-users, bounty hunters and tactical droids that still fight well.

>Do scenarios affect gameplay a lot, or do you just basically want to wipe the enemy?
As of now, the game has 7 primary and 7 secondary missions. They are fairly diverse, and you gain most points through your primary mission. However, there are a couple of primaries that are very prone to draws (eg. Recover the research), in which case you usually win on secondaries. There are only 2/7 secondaries that award points for killing.

>Also wot are the factions like, do they have their niches, or can anyone be good at anything basically.
As mentioned before, each faction CAN play in multiple ways, but they do have a core identity.
>Empire
The "vanilla" faction. They have the fewest tricks and mostly rely on raw statlines. Besides their heroes, they are definitely a shootling army first and foremost.
>Rebels
The tricksy glass cannon faction. They have by far the most ways of messing with the enemy through command cards. They hit hard, with lots of pierce, but most of their units fold like wet paper under sustained fire.
>CIS
The endurance/synergy faction. Lots of bodies, lots of armor, tons of multi health units, many support abilities to keep your dudes alive just enough to score. As a CIS player, you also have by far the best order control, being able to plan out which units go when due to units like b1s having coordinate.
>GAR
The elite/synergy faction. Your units are generally expensive, but every clone trooper can generate tokens to share with other clones. Your objective as a clone commander is to make a list where every unit compliments each others' abilities.

Isn't Morgan the busted one? In every game I've played with him he's such a fucking beast

>entire ideology is based upon being militarily superior to everyone around them
>starts war of conquest
>gets conquered
It's really that simple.

In almost every civ, if you build tall and build your economy aggressively enough you can out science and out military everyone else with the sheer weight of the almighty dollar (energy credit).
Morgan is no different.
But he's weak to early aggression, as are almost every faction that is focused on this.

Cyborg is neutral I guess.

The rest are degrees of abominable evil.

I find my drone population outstripping my bases ability to provide for them about midgame.

Good job. Don’t be alarmed when your rating drops back down, progress isn’t linear. Just focus on improving and don’t pay too much attention to rating. Sometimes when you’re improving and experimenting which will make you better in the long term, you can sacrifice rating and take some losses in the short term. That’s fine x

Chessbros I started a couple months ago and am around 500 on chess.com, any tips on how to progress more quickly?

Tactics on Chesstempo, studies on Lichess, review your games on WintrChess, play the same opening over and over until you master it.

Watch Chess Fundamentals by John Bartholomew on youtube.
Watch opening videos by Hanging Pawns on youtube and decide on an opening.
Play nothing shorter than 15 minute games and study them after. This means turning on the engine and seeing what it says you should have played instead, and understanding why.
As you get stronger, begin to take an interest in chess history and look through the games of the greatest players. You can do this on chessgames.com.
Just keep playing and making a conscious effort to do better every game, seems like it would go without saying but a lot of people just spam new game and treat it like Candy Crush. Don’t mistake the fact that chess is fundamentally an intellectual pursuit and a science and requires immense amounts of study and education.

I always find games where I think I played a blinder I end up getting like 60 accuracy score, and games that I swore were sloppy low grade crap end up being 80-90. Happens every time.
