What TTRPG system has the best combat in your opinion? What makes it shine compared to other systems out there?

Shadowrun's combat always has me going back the game despite the rules bloat each edition suffers. I think for a cyberpunk-genre system it beats Cyberpunk because Initiative Passes makes a character that it faster actually faster.

Cyberpunk RED is more accessible though due to simpler dice mechanics. Yet, really if you wanted to play David Martinez from the Edgerunners anime Shadowrun is better at simulating his Sandevistan(Wired Reflexs in SR)

I should also note that GURPS time to kill is pretty low, and large combats will generally make use of Mook rules, meaning that a lot of those combatants will resolve their turns very quickly and be taken out of the fight after one good hit.

i remember one time we ripped through 40-50 goblins in WFRP, and it took us only about an hour. no special rules for fighting a pack, just the regular ones. imagine any other somewhat serious system doing that.

>it's simplistic
it's literally the same stuff they use in Mordheim minis

for me, it's the unquestionable GOAT. the dedicated autism-corral class (spellcasters), where they can have fun with complexity without bogging down the rest of the game, is like the cherry on top

On the other hand, sticking the caps of baby formula bottles together to make scifi containers worked pretty fine.
I added a bit of sand inside, for the weight, and used epoxy glue to make sure the two caps stuck together solidly.

What made gnomes so special that they needed to be a core race for so long? they were only introduced shortly after the original races buts still stick around to this day. they are never really popular player races, and don't really fulfill the same fantasy tropes as the other races did
So why stick around as a core and not just be a later supplement?

>but why keep them around when the rule was long forgotten
Because despite the many retards here who seem to think halflings and gnomes are the same thing, they arent. They occupy their own niche of being a short magical pseudofey with an interest in innovative technology. The details of each race are fucking important to why they still exist and are separate concepts. That you lot of retards cant remember them or keep them straight in your heads doesn't give you an excuse to remove races.

As time has gone on each of these races has been given a specific niche, and expanded lore that makes them very different creatures. Thats why they stick around, they occupy a niche not covered by another race.

>>96460073
>both by having Gnomes not be core
Gnomes werent "core" in 4e because there was limited space in the first PHB and they wanted to include dragonborn and tieflings over the "standard" set of races. Beyond that the concept of the core race is something very stupid in 4e because they were released in the PHB 2, which is considered a core product for 4e alongside the PHB 3 and all DMGs.

gnomes in fantasy don't match really one to one with how we treat them in myth or pop culture
gnomes are just sorta the little dudes you put in your garden, but in dnd they live in caves
in most myth they're pretty interchangeable with elves, but i suppose goblins are too
in pop culture they're interchangeable with snow white dwarves and christmas elves.
frankly gnomes almost seem like they are in dnd for the normie friend who is confused why aren't elves working for santa

NTA but we get what you are saying. I am spoiled with a group that will play almost everything I put in front of them, everyone is extremely good with picking up all the rules from a single teach and play competitively the first time around.
We still say "hey, I'd like to play X next time". If the stars align they all might even learn the rules beforehand (ok that happened exactly once). But the biggest thing is you avoid someone/you taking a bunch if big boxes with you only to hear naaah anon I'm not in the mood for 'german autobahn autism today'. >Up side of this path being tread so much before hand I guess is the benefit of experience from your predecessors.
A well-traveled path that was laid down by people who wanted to make the journey easier for those who came after them.

>Yeah im just trying to think of things that would make good scene potential.
Midna creates some minions to throw into your defenses to test them. Having reached the second realm, Ritsuka was able to enter on her own as well, so she’s off to the side watching.

>A well-traveled path that was laid down by people who wanted to make the journey easier for those who came after them.
Yeah, It does paint quite a contrasting picture to the outside worlds cultivators.

>Midna creates some minions to throw into your defenses to test them. Having reached the second realm, Ritsuka was able to enter on her own as well, so she’s off to the side watching.
I can see the midna thing but Im not sure if Ritsuka would be able to. She's body focused I'm not sure how she could admittedly. Though I do want to have a scene with her and venti talking about her own cultivation and its techniques and her thoughts about being immortal now. Ventis not growing alone after all. Midna and ritsuka probably have just as many thoughts and experiences on there own development.
>>
>>96466380
>Yeah, It does paint quite a contrasting picture to the outside worlds cultivators.
It’s a big part of why Hyrule is able to grow. The Triune Scriptures may be slower to cultivate, but average cultivators in Hyrule can grow much more easily, so while Hyrule doesn’t have more geniuses they do have unusually strong average cultivators.

>I can see the midna thing but Im not sure if Ritsuka would be able to. She's body focused I'm not sure how she could admittedly.
I was thinking of the idea that when you reach the second realm you could start to affect the world with your will, so if you allowed it she might be able to just will herself in.

>Though I do want to have a scene with her and venti talking about her own cultivation and its techniques and her thoughts about being immortal now.
Sounds fun.
>>
>>96466464
>I was thinking of the idea that when you reach the second realm you could start to affect the world with your will, so if you allowed it she might be able to just will herself in.
Ah fair enough. I don't want there to be that much overlap between paths. Though a little bits okay for wriggle room like that.

>Sounds fun.
Yeah, Ritsukas a genius proper. And she can grow incredibly fast but how she reacts to that growth and the changes by my thinking. Is still entirely normal if that makes sense. Perhaps even a bit less ready for it given the speed in which she reached it. I was thinking of venti actually listening and trying to help her with some of the spiritual aspects of god body eventually given he's more used to that eventually.

"Finding the fallen" edition

>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

Just finished it tonight after about two months of brief on and off reading every few nights. Very well done!

I like that Wilhelm is characterized so that you can see him eventually kicking the Great War hornet's nest OTL before all of his adventures really sink in. And that was a no-notes perfection representation of how I've imagined Morlocks too.

I hope moving across country went well, hopefully finding a new gaming group isn't an issue. The time difference wasn't much of an issue, in any case in the last 3~4 weeks I couldn't really do anything on the weekends, this coming one I should be free (emphasis on 'should', half my colleagues decided to quit without notice... ) so if Sundays works still for you we can have a game then.
>>96461600
>Pretty good film.
I remember having a lot of fun watching it, but it was back in theater, on one of my first dates. So, nostalgia may affect the result.
same reason why I still enjoy watching Josie and the Pussycats...
>Their version of Morlocks are what we could consider Neanderthals, or maybe devolved deepfolks. Is there a clear divide?
In my mind, yes, Neanderthals are either very hirsute men with rough features, or actual Neanderthals, Devolved Deepfolks have a very varied outlook within even the same family or across the whole group, from looking ghoulish to bestial (Moreau's).
You could argue that Apemen (and not Neanderthals) are a kind of Devolved Deepfolks, but I would suggest that Apemen have stable features across a bloodline, while Devolved Deepfolks are pretty much always playing the random-extra-organ-or-limb lottery every time they pop a new baby.

I think, even without the Headdress, that it is still a bit too good. +1 AP over the average is worth more than -1 LP. Trench Crusade General - /trench/
Weird love Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

It's baffling that the Knightly Order AoI is so incredibly shitty when 6E explored exactly the same concept but actually made it fun.
> Orders have a range of positive traits such as being wealthy, blessed or brave
> They also have negative traits like being humble, foreign or undisciplined
> Mix and match to make your own Order

It would be so simple to produce an updated list of these and actually make an AoI that is both fun and tactical.
Also why is the KO the only AoI not to have any unique units or traits? You could just remove the 0-1 limit on Order upgrades in the GA list and the whole AoI becomes redundant.

Ignoring that this thread is for some reason about pedophilia apologia and who does it, I think this game looks shit. No, I haven’t read the rules and maybe there’s something clever in there, but the style is amateur-modelled print slop. Who wants to be limited to three factions in a sci-fi setting? Who wants to engage with this paper thin Blizzard lore? Someone shared a bottle of soju with an exec and convinced him to give him the rights so he could make a quick buck off his off-shore 3D modelling office.

I for one want to see the AoS and Necromunda versions. The former I think would be funny, and the later might actually be a good skirmish game.

Where do I get sci-fi miniatures that look like this?

Kind of chunky, part traditional part NASApunk

Either traditional companies or 3D sculptors

Nobody asked for heroic-scale space marine miniatures.

If you want Sci-fantasy-ish designs then download blender, mix and match fantasy and sci-fi figures, and 3d print them. I gather you can luck into whatever you're looking for if you look for isekai (I know) anime characters and add helmets, guns and other accessories from different media.
