It's interesting because by all accounts Cathay did really, really well. A local store owner said that it did "Space Marine" numbers for them (though thats obv. just anecdotal).

I wonder if there's a point where they say that making a new army has more potential than ez cash from bringing back legacy stuff.

I reckon they'll be going for the more Viking Aesthetic we've seen from some of the newer Ogre models they've released rather than the old mongol aesthetic.

Where in the Old World do your dudes call home, at least for the moment?
In the case for my beasty bois they hang around a forest on the borders of Ostland and Kislev, from which the raid the surrounding villages and towns, or use as a staging ground for larger movement of the warherd to other places in the Old World.

Then just hit Hornet Drones. Why in the world would you hit Engage instead of Hornet Drones, when you could just hit Hornet Drones?
>>
>>96470888
NTA, but both should go. But they won't do any of that because they want you to "omg i love raye, buy sky strikers."
>>
>>96470941
Both won't go because both don't need to go. Engage was at 2 for years-- 3 for the entirety of the last year-- and did nothing. The thing that shook that up is Lemnisgate giving them infinite recursion, which makes a much stronger argument for Lemnis either going to 1 or getting banned, and Engage *maybe* going back to 2 just to give it a little consistency nerf in non-Sky Striker decks.

The only objectively problematic card from Sky Striker right now is the card that's been at 1 for almost its entire lifetime in every format. Hornet Drones getting killed would be fine. Pure Sky Striker players wouldn't miss it, and Yummyfags that relied on it can cope and seeth as they add Ace Zero and Roze to their builds to do the exact same thing that Hornet Drones does.
>>
This guy is fucking insane. I will make Lightsworn work in 2025.
>>
>>96473283
Side note, any extra deck recommendations for a modern (mostly) pure Lightsworn deck? I don't have a lot in Master Duel so outside Curious, Minerva, and Michael, I'm just running some cheap generic rank 4s and synchros I can make with Felis/Raiden/Weiss.

What systems/mechanics provide good rules for simulating progress of a war effort?
How would you portray moving frontlines and exchange of territories during a war? Both from perspective of commanders and boots on the ground.
Any games where you did something similar?

IMO this is really a matter of presentation. You produce a map. Preferably a cool looking one and update it with visible changes each session. Its basically a graphic design/UI design task.
>>
>>96472909
What tools do you use for graphic design?
How would you make a map like in the one in the OP?
>>
>>96472984
I'd probably use GIMP but thats because I've been GIMPing for 20 years and can crank out something like that pretty fast. Most photoshop-like software would work. If I was going to use a VTT I would break things down into elements.
>>
>>96471343
For fantasy, I would suggest ACKS. It uses hex map and has rules for mass combat that integrate into standard heroic adventuring.

For sci-fi, I got nothing.
>>
>>96472984
I tend to use Inkscape, since it's easier to go back and tweak parts later

>A Quiet Place setting
Does anyone find that the movie had good a premise in the beginning, but really fucked it up in the end and makes the whole world look stupid.
Really no one thought to use a sonic-based weapon on creatures whose only mode of perception was hearing? Especially that the said weapon is like made from common radio-parts and a hearing aid? Also I thought that the world ended in 1980-ish, but the sequel had smart phones so I guess not...

So /tg/ I did two games with different settings and systems, but using the same ideas. They were Delta Green and Chronicles of Darkess (which we later changed to Hunter the Vigil and Vampire).

The concept was to make a chronicle inspired by Twin Peaks but using that "Mandela Effect" conspiracy theory. I'll try to summarize months of sessions. The players had to go to a small town in Maine called Honeyville and discover who killed the daughter of the CEO of a mega-corporation. They discover that not only does a cult that worships a spiritual creature with Lovecratian elements, called "Mr. Nobody," control the town, but also the corporation (something like Pentex from Werewolf: The Apocalypse).
The cult is having a "civil war," and one of the factions sacrificed the CEO's daughter without the approval of all the members.

Where does the Mandela Effect come in?

Well, both players and cultists learn to enter a shadow world, a temporary reality far less detailed than ours, but similar to the Umbra or the otherworld in Silent Hill. Every time someone enters this world and interacts with anything there (even opening a door counts), it affects our reality. The world's history changes, people disappear or are replaced, and the memories of those who didn't enter this world also change. People who manage to enter this world are called "jumpers."

So, both players and NPCs caused changes and only realized it when it was too late. It was amusing to see the confused faces every time they returned to town and realized something had changed.
In the end, the players prevented the cult from sacrificing an albino girl with Rh-null blood, the rarest blood type in the world. The ritual would have made the spirit become a full-fledged god.

Oh yeah, and the NPC that summoned the player characters was basically David Lynch, so I had to constantly imitate him.

Get the "A game of armored combat" box
Play a game or two with the minis/standees
If you enjoy it buy more
For combined arms I would recommend either using a 3D printer or buying stuff from IWM
Pirate the rules for now

You can make cool mini dioramas with infantry and add a lot of cool details
I have more combined arms than mechs and the game is quite fun
>>
>>96473125
I don't even know what force organization charts would do in an average game unless they add some benefit to having a designated lance leader even if that leader has no special equipment or SPA. Maybe it would stop people from fielding 3 or 5 mechs and calling it a lance, but that's not friendly to the casual audience at all since they're the ones who ignore this kind of thing.
>>
>>96473264
For a tournament setting, making players organize a Company and then play with lances would allow for list switching between games without being a complete free for all.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

To add on to this, the setting pretty much is the old world, and is currently in the 1780-1800's ish in terms of progress. The industrial revolution in this setting has introduced things like the steam engine, early bolt action rifles, and other inventions of this time. Pretty much this industral revolution gave the human states of the time (mostly elf vassal states or fringe kingdoms) a economic and technological advantage over the elderkin (elves) who where still fighting with swords and magic and where too arrogant to adapt to anything. When some of the vassal states started to step out of line, the elves (currently in a succession crisis) decided that nothing would legitimise the new dynasty like a quick war against the savages. This turned out to be a big mistake (elven society had grown decadent and arrogant) and the elves got absolutely butchered and the conflict quickly devolved into trench warfare. Eventually the elves adapted and with the help of several elven states and dwarf clans, where able to defeat most of the upstart human states. However they quickly found that technology had spread across the world and now even more of their vassals where in revolution, and even other races, like the orcs had started to get their hands on it. Now the elves have lost most of their empire, are no longer the major players and are pretty much hated by everyone.

Have an idea for a fantasy rpg world that I've been working on for a while. Basically just filling out a text doc with ideas. I have it in my head, I've tried using free map making things, but they're very jank and not really to the scale I want to explore. I want to make a fully explorable planet, but also have places of dense interest with sub themes, (weird wild west, far east inspired places, steam punk victorian flavored places, wild jungle tree top dwelling places, etc). I'm basically just ripping ideas directly from all of my favorite fantasy franchises and blatantly mashing them together, but also blending them and remixing them into an original setting. I would like to find someone smarter than me to help me condense this into a more cohesive idea, but I also don't want to get ripped off. I also want it to be an extremely slow reveal of the world as its explored. I would like to make it compatable with DnD and PF and other popular ttrpg systems, and maybe adapt it to novels and stuff. I want to include a pokemon style element type theme to everything, but boiled down to various combinations of earth, wind, fire, water, and everything be based off of a variation of these base elements. I also have a source of the strangeness and magic in the world that makes logical sense in a scifi fantasy sort of way. Like a kernel of origin for all the weirdness to act as the mcguffin and the driving force of the world.

NTA, but why would the builders make it so large?

The point of my suggestion was to offer a reason for mecha (logical in-universe siloing of mass combat and dungeon crawling); letting the mecha enter the dungeon obviates that and collapses back to "what do they add".

>What is Genesys?
Released in November 2017, Genesys is a pen-and-paper generic/universal RPG system and toolkit by Fantasy Flight Games and EDGE Studio, using a refined version of the system presented by their Star Wars RPGs (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny). Its central mechanic is the Narrative Dice System, using pools made of specialized dice to create narrative results. The intention is for the system to be a highly flexible narrative system, adaptable to most any conceivable setting and premise.

>Thread Question: What have you been home brewing in the past 5 years that Edge has spent neglecting Genesys?
Been tinkering with a Stargate setting but have too little time to have actually run it more than twice.
>>
I I have done some tinkering and discovered that the Genesys system was fed into the later versions of ChatGPT. I was able to get it to explain the system, understand the dice roll mechanics, suggest dice pools based on situations, and even propose interpretation of dice roll results. Still developing it but very promising so far.
>>
I'd like to ask anons who've played or run the game: how often does Motivation come into play mechanically? In the context of bonuses or maluses to social skills (or maybe Fear checks).

>What attributes do your game use?
Vitality
Constitution
Strength
Agility
Dexterity
Charisma
Awareness
Intelligence
Wisdom
...
>How do you use them?
Myself, I'm brewing something where I want them used by pair, using Charisma+Intelligence for persuasion or using Constitution+Charisma to intimidate, so you aren't totally doomed if you didn't put points in one skill.

How does this look?

[Physique] :: Equal to sum of SubStats :: Health pool.
-Strength- :: Governs violence and exercises of force.
-Endurance- :: Governs resistance against physical forces.
-Metabolism- :: Governs digestion, recovery, and biological/chemical resistance.

[Motorics] :: Equal to sum of SubStats :: AP pool.
-Dexterity- :: Governs fine motor finesse, particular in the hands.
-Agility- :: Governs acrobatic and athletic feats
-Reflex- :: Governs evasion and other feats requiring twitch responses.

[Psyche] :: Equal to sum of SubStats :: Morale pool.

Thanks for the constructive argumentation, it's fascinating how anons give such wildly opposite ideas.
Just to be clear, yes Dex+Int is best choice for skilled works.
But if I only use Agility, Agility+Int would become skilled-work and only 3 stats would lead to easy ninja agile, smart & crafty.
...unless I then use Agility/Dexterity+Awareness/Perception to cover a ninja who invested in Agility+Awareness but lack the Int to craft or disarm stuff.

>Willpower+Vitality works fine for someone lifting something heavy
My magic system really override Strength and Willpower is to be a character defining stat you can chose not to invest in, not a Laziness stat.
Sames goes for using Willpower along Intelligence to see things, it would force to put points in Willpower just in case.
I must reveal that I intend to use Willpower as a bad thing due to magic or fast-talking a Willpower build lacking Int or charisma.
I might look for a whole new attribute name.

Care to go in more depth why separating Dex & Agility is important for you?
Myself I want to differentiate so an Assassin's can leverage Vitality+Dexterity over a plain Vitality+Agility.

>Care to go in more depth why separating Dex & Agility is important for you?
Different guy here, but I like the idea of separating the two because they can have wildly different applications.
Dexterity is fine motor, and Agility is Gross motor. Folding a paper crane and vaulting over a barrier without losing any speed or momentum are very different skills.

Fire: Acts as strength, passion, charisma
Earth: Acts as willpower, resistance, and stubborn
Metal: Acts as logic and precision, intellect
Water: Acts as empathy, perception, adaptation
Wood: Acts as stealth, agility, and deception

Done. I've solved attributes using the most based elemental system.

>undead/robots
>literally human but BIG
>the token furry race unless it's ugly
>orc/dwarf/human toss up, depends on the stats
>maybe a small race for memes
>elves
>DnDslop like Tieflings, Draenei, Genasi, Aassimar ect. where it's just a modern Californian human but with blue or green skin and a short blurb about how they are from the elemental plane of Blorbo and they have zero lore or personality
This is my priority order for deciding on a new character whenever I play an RPG. AMA.

I don't think I'd want to run a game with them as PCs unless the whole party played as them or their thralls.

My weak human arms aren't strong enough so my giant ant mistress has to carry it for me. She would probably tell me how weak I am and then carry me too.
