Have you ever played a fat character?

Yeah I played Jeremy the Neckbeard Wizard in a Savage Worlds game, he had a bottle of Mtn Dew he used as a focus for his acid splash spell, he could teleport behind people with his katana for a "nothin' personnel" attack, and he had resistance to divine magic because he was an atheist. Game didn't last very long but he had the Obese flaw which actually gave him a few extra hit points but made him a bit slow. The DM pitched the campaign as a comedy game but in reality he just got pissed at my characters so I had to stop playing it and then we stopped playing and switched to something else.

>why does everyone shit on PF2?
You're on /tg/, being contrarian is like the most coolest thinguest ever. You can read a bunch of opinions from experienced 5e DMs breaking down how the game works extremely smoothly even at higher levels, and then you come to /tg/ and some faggot is screeching about the game being "extremely imbalanced".

You should try it. It's peak 3.5 style gaming.
>>
>>96506591
PF2 has one of the biggest problems from PF1 with build optimization being considered the "correct" way to play in all published adventures and supplements.
It further compounds this by making TURN optimization the "correct" way to play in the same adventures and supplements.

The result is a system that, on paper, offers you a large amount of customization in character options and turn options, but, in practice, is a stifling piece of shit that could theoretically play itself because every round and character will be following an "If, then" flow chart.

If you ignore all the published adventures and shit? It's fine. The same could be said about PF1 and SF1 too. Since most will learn from prepublished shit and that will teach people the "correct" way to play, it is not shocking people who are only familiar with official stuff walk away feeling like it's kinda shit. Every single enemy and event properly scaled will assume you are a build and turn autist though, so it will require the DM to kinda cull that bullshit on a fundamental level which is a pretty massive ding against the system.
>>
>>96506624
>that could theoretically play itself because every round and character will be following an "If, then" flow chart.
What a nothing burger of a statement, what the fuck does this even mean? Any tactical game is able to be reduced to an "if, then" flowchart if there is no question about what the opponent is going to do.

I’m not quite clever enough to create a Wuxia paradigm limited enough to ape something like chrono trigger without gutting the parts of Mage that make Mage fun I fear, which is why I hesitate. I definitely want to hit the high levels of Mage power, but, very slowly. And base game isn’t really conducive to that unless I put guardrails on everything which at that point why play something as open ended as tabletop
>>
>>96505473
>>96505763
I don't think WoD is the system you really want for that.
>>
>>96505781
It IS but more for the endgame. It’s hard to explain especially without spoiling what I want to do with this, and if any of my players lurk the thread it would really give away the ghost.
>>
>>96505904

If you want end game stuff you'd be better off trying to your trinity or aberrant for the system that allows for powers to get absurd but is somewhat balanced for it. Although I use that term very loosely. Maybe even 2e scion

World of Darkness for all the discussions about power levels and which splat is the best doesn't actually do well following the traditional zero to hero progression. You're kinda in the position to quickly gain a lot of power or not.
>>
>>96505473
Presuming that it needs to be WoD for whatever reason your main options would be...
>Kindred of the East
>Demon Hunter X
because obvious options are obvious.
>W20 + Beast Courts.
There are a lot of Gifts that cover individual Wuxia tropes.
>ExWoD
It is just neat and has a lot of generalist advice for X20 games, making a lot of the core engine jank less of an issue.

Are there any books or novels which is done from the POV of an Ork boy or Nob? I have read plenty of codex fluff which flushes out their society well and how it functions, but I was wondering if there are any stories or novels which actually explores it beyond a world building lense.
>>
>>96506515
Warboss and Brutal Kunning have large sections from the Ork POV. Some admech and other factions in a few sections.

I have played and GMed a lot of grid-based tactical RPGs: D&D 4e, Path/Starfinder 2e, Draw Steel, Tom Abbadon's ICON, level2janitor's Tactiquest, Tacticians of Ahm, and Tailfeathers/Kazzam, for example.

One scenario that I consistently find unsatisfying is when the optimal play for either the PCs or the enemies is to skirmish or turtle in such a way that the other side simply cannot attack back. This can happen in various ways, usually involving some combination of high speed, flight, and long-ranged attacks. I dislike this because it drags out combat, and rewards long and drawn-out defensive plays over more aggressive action. (I have been on both the delivering end of this and the receiving end within just the past few days, playing Draw Steel. This game has too many high-speed flyers with long-ranged attacks, even at low levels.)

There are some band-aid fixes that the GM could apply, such as making the combat area small, giving the combat area a low ceiling, or removing walls or other obstructions that could be used for cover. However, these feel clumsy to me.

Some grid-based tactical RPGs, like ICON, based on Lancer, offer a solution: "capture zone" scenarios. The specifics vary depending on the system, but the idea is that the map contains several special areas situated on the ground. PCs and their enemies fight over these capture zones, and gain points at the end of each round based on the number of conscious PCs or enemies occupying the capture zones. (There might be "weights" to enemies, so weaker enemies count for less, while stronger enemies count for more.) Key to this are round-based reinforcements, round limits, or both. The PCs cannot just kill all the enemies, and have to actually occupy the capture zones.

(Continued.)

The removal of Morale Rules form D&D and the ripple effect that act has had on the hobby at large has been a major detriment to the hobby.

>D&D 4e, Path/Starfinder 2e, Draw Steel, Tom Abbadon's ICON, level2janitor's Tactiquest, Tacticians of Ahm, and Tailfeathers/Kazzam
Which one of these (Or other ones you have played) did you like the most and would recommend?
I'm deeply interested in this type of play but PF2e and D&D4e seem too unwieldy to me (D&D baggage) and I've had my eyes on Lancer but the setting isn't particularly captivating. Waiting on Strike! 2e whenever that gets done.
>>
>>96506503

If you are not a fan of D&D 4e or Path/Starfinder 2e, I would look into any one of Draw Steel, level2janitor's Tactiquest, Tacticians of Ahm, or Tailfeathers/Kazzam. (In particular, Tailfeathers/Kazzam is by the Strike! author, and is somewhat of a Strike! 1.5.)

I would recommend Tom Abbadon's ICON if it were not for 2.0 still being a work in progress.

>>96506518
Looked into BEACON? It is based on Lancer and fantasy themed like ICON but has its own initiative system.

I've always taken duelling over defense. I don't know what the fuck you're talking about with those percentages. +1 AC is 5% less chance to hit with a normal strike. But it does change a bit depending on advantage/disadvantage.

There is no marking like in 4e so to make people want to hit you posing a significant threat and killing them more quickly is worth it. That being said duelling is better at low levels when that +2 damage matters more while I'd say defense is better at high levels.

its right there on your own table if you look the percentages from top to bottom
raising ac from 15 to 16 reduces the hitting rolls from 6 to 5, raising ac from 18 to 19 reduces the hitting rolls from 3 to 2,
20% and 50% are indeed wrong for some reason i had a brain fart and counted only rolls above the ac. the correct % are 16.67 and 30%
>>
>>96506625
>I don't know what the fuck you're talking about with those percentages.
NTA but if the enemy can only hit you on a 19 or 20 (10% chance), then gaining 1 AC would halve that % to 5% therefore it is much more valuable than all the other points of AC that came before

Alternative ideas for what 4th edition could include, such as alternating activations, new unit ports, etc. This is a Stage 4 process and so there's plenty of time for that later on.

Stage 4: Make a Hobby Enthusiast supplement for the SRD.

Update. Scrapping my first draft. I feel that it was too wordy and not straight to the point.
Also I kept feeling as though my writing was wordy in the sense that I am desperately trying to reach an essay word count.

I could use some suggestions on how you all want the writing to be.
Such as whether you are okay with things being wordy so long as they're descriptive and helpful or just straight to the point.
>>
>>96503761
Well you can get a 2++ with sisters on your character using faith points so. The double HQ is mostly due to the name of the list "フキユトフクミ" that I just notice I, misspelled it.
The PE are there because I have 6 of them I'll try to run as much of them as I can, but yeah they didn't do much beside eating shots.
I could easily just give one of the HQ a blessed weapon. Would only be S5, no bonus against vehicles, but keeps the I4 and one re roll to hit.
The third celestian squad could be replaced by a Callidus, but then on HQ must be an Inquisitor.
My main issue was the deployment as I said deploying on the short edge really dick me over, because in other games usually I lose a turn moving 12 popping smoke like you say. Maybe two tops. But here I was 3 turns inside my transport just trying to reach his lines.
Didn't help the damn witches (objectives) scatter towards his direction kind of fluffy though.

Where does the idea that the Imperial Guard are elite come from? Some of their regiments are literally recruited from Feudal Worlds where the local have never even seen a lasgun before. A good chunk of the regiments are noted for using primitive tactics including WW1 tactics, Napoleonic style warfare, and even pre-historic barbarian savagery. Their lascannons and flak armor might be good by today's standards but they're not good by the setting's standards, they're not even good by the Imperium's, and everybody else has the armor or toughness that makes the lasgun utterly inadequate. Pretty much every conflict of note ends up requiring Space Marines to pull them through, even conflicts against the fucking Tau which are like 1/1000000th the size of the Imperium.

>The Aztecs were on the same level of pussified, they went after tribes vastly inferior to their own
Not really, they were just THE power of the region so most people were inferior, even the ones that weren't "tribes"
A better argument is that their ideal of warfare was completely different, and more about taking captives than killing
>>
>>96502617
>Not really, they were just THE power of the region
They were the largest state because they were a loose conglomeration set upon the best arable land in the region, and banded together to enslave and sacrifice the smaller tribes. They got utterly trounced the moment they received any significant pushback.

The entire imperium is at war 24/7 and this means they'd realistcally be actually good at fighting and have well trained militaries and going off of literally everything you see in the codexes and lore they do except you know they're in 40k so they're pretty fucked when it comes to combat because every enemy either comes in endless hordes IE Orks and Tyranids or is much better equipped IE Chaos Marines, Eldar, Tau, Necrons.

FYI Theres never actually really been any logic to the retarded human waves shit people like to claim is how the guard are "supposed to act" besides 1 or 2 authors circle jerking it hard in a book or two back in 3rd 6th or 7th when they went full retard grimderp and even in 3rd edition lore most guard regiments got fucking paid for their service.
