I want to try Andromeda's Edge as I had similar feelings after trying the Dwellings of Eldervale once when visiting my brother's gaming group. Not sure if it's something I'd buy, but I had a good time with it. I'd like to see how AE compares.
This might have been helped by the fact that I smoked them too.
Apparently no one had ever played the Centaur faction for whatever reason. I was already going to pick them because centaurs are cool, but once I saw their ability that lets you flip a die to 6 (or something along those lines it's been half a year) I knew it was going to be delicious.
They learned to respect the Centaur master race that day.

Soulblight are pretty good too, but I disagree on Seraphon, Hedonites, Khorne, StD, Ironjawz, or Gitmob being departures from their old WHFB aesthetics. The only one on that list I would say was was the Kruleboyz and they were quite controversial on launch for that very reason.

avoid posing the spears pointing forward, most arms are posed in a resting stance so the spears look weightless when rotated to aim forward

avoid oversaturated schemes, they're an army of undeath, if the colors say "lively and clean" it means something is off and that will be noticeable

play around the bog standard color coding of the parts, you can paint some bones as different materials or viceversa, even faces as masks

you can also easily cut off the noses and/or fill in some of the mouths in greenstuff or spruegoo, you shouldn't feel constrained

Every time I search for a cool "barbarian" in some RPG, no matter if it's dark fantasy or not, it's always the half-naked dude or chick that looks like he / she has just wake up after an university party.
It gives the same vibes that you get from watching an historical film and for some reason, the filmmakers hate natural colors and must put a filter that ruins your immersion.

I recently discovered a simple d6 game that I enjoy but it doesn't have much in the way of abilities or skills for the characters to choose from during the session. Once you start having to make the distinction between 'general rules vs specific rules' then I'd say it starts to become rules heavy. As in, if you have a rule that works generally across the system, but then find yourself writing in edge cases in which different rules apply.

Found an old idea I had for a fantasy setting a while back lol. The idea was that the world, Ter, had just undergone an industrial revolution, which saw the defeat of the old elf/dwarf nations in a series of revolts. Made some shitty blub for it, so feel free to laugh.


It is the dawn of the New Age. For centuries, the Elderkin held dominion over Ter.

Yet now, the age of the Elderkin and the arcana wanes. The hum of machines rises from the sprawling cities of men.

Smog clouds darken the skies. Factories churn, guns roar, and the earth trembles beneath the march of iron-clad armies.

Across Ter, the old magics flicker and fade. The old gods grow silent and cold, replaced by industry. Where once the songs of the Elderkin rang out, cries of revolution resound.

Nations fracture, new ideologies rise and faiths are tested. Gunpowder and the arcane alike tear the land asunder. Ancient creatures stirred by this upheaval slink back from forgotten shadows, eager to feast upon the dying world.

To live in Ter now is to witness the end of an era, and the birth of a new: the final twilight of magic, the ruthless dawn of industry, and the coming storm of war that will decide the fate of all.

To add on to this, the setting pretty much is the old world, and is currently in the 1780-1800's ish in terms of progress. The industrial revolution in this setting has introduced things like the steam engine, early bolt action rifles, and other inventions of this time. Pretty much this industral revolution gave the human states of the time (mostly elf vassal states or fringe kingdoms) a economic and technological advantage over the elderkin (elves) who where still fighting with swords and magic and where too arrogant to adapt to anything. When some of the vassal states started to step out of line, the elves (currently in a succession crisis) decided that nothing would legitimise the new dynasty like a quick war against the savages. This turned out to be a big mistake (elven society had grown decadent and arrogant) and the elves got absolutely butchered and the conflict quickly devolved into trench warfare. Eventually the elves adapted and with the help of several elven states and dwarf clans, where able to defeat most of the upstart human states. However they quickly found that technology had spread across the world and now even more of their vassals where in revolution, and even other races, like the orcs had started to get their hands on it. Now the elves have lost most of their empire, are no longer the major players and are pretty much hated by everyone.

I also want it to be an extremely slow reveal of the world as its explored. I would like to make it compatable with DnD and PF and other popular ttrpg systems, and maybe adapt it to novels and stuff. I want to include a pokemon style element type theme to everything, but boiled down to various combinations of earth, wind, fire, water, and everything be based off of a variation of these base elements. I also have a source of the strangeness and magic in the world that makes logical sense in a scifi fantasy sort of way. Like a kernel of origin for all the weirdness to act as the mcguffin and the driving force of the world.

The point of my suggestion was to offer a reason for mecha (logical in-universe siloing of mass combat and dungeon crawling); letting the mecha enter the dungeon obviates that and collapses back to "what do they add".
