They were right about all of that though. Why are the JEDI of all people being sent to negotiate the trade dispute? The Nemoidians are clearly just terrified by them, are they being treated like the Chancellor's strongmen or something? If it was an issue that could be settled by just citing some law or making a deal, it would never have reached the point of a blockade. And if it could be solved like that, why not just use the sectors representative? And somehow, nobody even knows the blockade is happening? And why IS Naboo suffering so badly from it, do they not have agriculture? How could any deal signed while under invasion be legitimate?

The plot only makes sense to 8 year olds exactly because it was designed for 8 year olds. The more you think about it the dumber it is, the plot stops at "bad stuff happens because politics and bad guys greedy".

Best combat experience I've had is legend of the Five Rings. Pretty much the only game I've ever had the pleasure of having a badass samurai duel.
Runequest Glorantha comes close, but I fucking hate strike ranks and how you need to consult tables all the fucking time.
>>96466913
Lancer is good in theory. Some people don't like the video game kind of rule adaptation, but I like it, in principle. In execution, Lancer is so horribly balanced that I never had fun with it. Itemization is dogshit, there are so many noob traps, and so much just general exploitable retardation. Not to mention that most builds just boil down to being a one-trick pony. It's funner to browse comp/con and imagine playing it than it is to play for real.
>>
>>96467540
Draw Steel. Back and forth initiative makes it really easy to flow through combat, no rolling to hit so every turn damage is happening and the combat progresses, lots of movement and forced movement abilities keeps the battlefield dynamic, and lots of cool abilities to use.
I've never been a player, just a GM so I can't speak to the player experience but as a GM it's been the least tedious and most fun combat system I've used. There's even GM specific mechanics that actually make it kind of exciting and fun to run monsters.
>>
>>96466207
World of Five Nations.
>>
>>96466207
Since this is the thread its sort of poignant to ask in, how do I make combat quicker and more fun in my TTRPG system?

As of now "initiative" is decided based on context and player/creature stats, and from there whoever goes first rolls to hit, with the roll to hit score being decided by distance, speed, and size of the creature being attacked (there are "levels" for each, the specific quantity is not added/subtracted from RTH), and specifies where on the body they are attacking, with what weapon, and how (each weapon has a certain number of attacks allowed, with "improvised" attacks (ie; clubbing someone with the pommel of a sword) being set to defaults)). The players stat modifiers affect roll to hit. At the same time, the defending creature is expected to roll and decide upon a dodge or a parry (regardless of whether roll to hit succeeds; they are rolling at the same time), with the advantage being given to the attacker. If the dodge or parry fails, the attacker rolls for damage, which is decided based upon where the weapon lands (which is decided by the degree of success of the RTH), among other more specific things, such as armor coverage of the affected area.

Does this seem convoluted? The system is being purposefully designed so that a player is always in anticipation or actively performing, but I want to cut down on the number of pure calculations involved (although I dont see how I would, especially with distance).

I've seen players play scared before, even without mechanical implementation, but that was in games that really leaned into the horror elements and tropes. Whereas with mecha games (or Werewolf like that other game I was in), the assumption is often that your character is a hot-blooded badass, ready to go teeth-first against bigger and meaner mechs and monsters. So when you introduce a horror scene, it can be hard for players to square that previous concept with the requirements of the scene.

Those creatures are called Mother Courage. They're Night Shift units that deploy to acquire fallen cyborgs for recycling. The pic I posted is of a mech called Toothy, which is designed as a combat medic unit to recover wounded soldiers and keep them alive until they can be brought to proper treatment. The issue is that Toothy can also power itself using its patients' bioelectricity, and for some their programming has gone a bit off, making them rogue monsters that hunt down people to power itself.

The process itself is depicted on picrel, it's spoilered because this is a blue board.

Clerics can no longer cast spells while using a shield apparently. This is from the new starter set. WotC REALLY wants to destroy that class fantasy for some reason.
10 replies omitted. Click here to view.

>>96467039

The main bad design decision relating to clerics in D&D has always been the fact that they're too damn powerful. Yes, even back in the first edition they were too strong.
>>
>>96465669
It's a simplification of the actual rules because it's a fucking starter set. The actual rule is that you need your fucking hand free to perform material component, which as an exception can be substituted with a spell focus, of which holy symbols as an exception can be borne on a shield or fabric.
>>
>>96467285
except for the fact that they can't use swords and the best magic items in adnd are swords. not to mention a myriad of restrictions. nice try tho

I see no reason why a custom god couldn't have a custom holy symbol, but would someone allow that when it is clearly a metagaming request? Might as well skip the middleman and ask if you can cast without a holy symbol, same shit.

What made gnomes so special that they needed to be a core race for so long? they were only introduced shortly after the original races buts still stick around to this day. they are never really popular player races, and don't really fulfill the same fantasy tropes as the other races did
So why stick around as a core and not just be a later supplement?

i
>>
>>96460214
gnomes in fantasy don't match really one to one with how we treat them in myth or pop culture
gnomes are just sorta the little dudes you put in your garden, but in dnd they live in caves
in most myth they're pretty interchangeable with elves, but i suppose goblins are too
in pop culture they're interchangeable with snow white dwarves and christmas elves.
frankly gnomes almost seem like they are in dnd for the normie friend who is confused why aren't elves working for santa
>>
>>96466582
D&D forest gnomes are pretty close to the myth version.

i feel like anyone who conflates gnomes and halflings is disingenuous. i say this as someone who hates tinker gnomes and think they poisoned the well early on. gnomes are tiny elves, halflings are tiny humans. this should be more than enough to fill your imagination. halflings and gnomes couldn't be more different.
>>
>>96467560
They've kind of flattened halflings too, making them literally just humans but short. They used to have more character to them. Mystaran Halflings answer the question "why aren't these things dead to an orc horde or random lich-king invasion" by making them anti-magic and giving them an uncontrollable adventurelust around puberty, so they basically all have some amount of combat experience and skills. They actually have a sizable navy because so many of them channel their wanderlust into sailing. Halfling privateers are a menace in their part of the world. But then they get older and settle down to your pretty typical shire lifestyle.

I only gave it a "cloak" and pants to make its ooze nature visible, but I can put more clothes on it of you want, shoes, a shirt, gloves, etc

The necklace it's the charm, a silver tongue with a pearl on the tip

Also, is it solid gray? Or is it translucent? Cus I added a skull floating inside his head, and his eyes could be gems or coins, or I can make it just solid gray

Shall I add rings on his fingers and bracelets on its arms?

Are just facial features well defined even though it's made of "goo", same for his toes and fingers, do you want nails on them?

I took a look at the references and realized I overdid it and made it more like kingpin, I can try and change it if you want

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image (follow the URL to get to a folder with some files, read the files to get to the archive). Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What is your opinion on the art in GURPS books?

>HP x10
>no hit zones
I'm not sure why you wouldn't want hit locations, since that is one of GURPS' selling points for a lot of players.
Although, I suppose if you gave all students Ablative Force-Field DR equal to 10xHP, then you'd get a similar effect.
Hit locations only matter for wounding modifiers, injury effects, and DR on different locations. Students don't wear armor, so DR will be uniform anyways. If damage doesn't penetrate DR, then wounding modifiers and injury effects won't matter either.
If you want students to be able to suffer Shock and Major Wounds even before DR is depleted, then you might make the DR flexible, so a small amount of damage still gets through (1 per 10 points for piercing damage, which most guns do).
Whether you want to go with ablative DR or high HP depends on whether you think halos should act like a depletable force field, or a physical enhancement that just simply makes students more durable overall.

Am I crazy, or did some anon one time make a Muppet template? If I'm not crazy, does anyone have it?

I don't play 40k and I don't have any of the books, but I have ONCE AGAIN heard some people talking about how powerful the space marines are, compared to normal people, and I had a sudden thought I need rules knowledge to disambiguate.

If a unit with 1 surviving standard guardsman charges a unit with 1 surviving standard marine what are the dice rolls that determine the results of that one charge? Assuming the luckiest rolls possible, is it possible for that guardsman to kill that marine?

If it isn't possible to do the 1-turn kill, what are the rolls the marine will make in retaliation, and what are the odds that the guardsman survives those to get another try against the marine?

(I'm not sure if "standard marine" and "standard guardsman" make sense - if you're playing a specific codex, will there be rules that make *every* marine non-standard, or is there a type of marine that every chapter gets? And same for the guardsman. If there's no "standard," then I guess I'm thinking of a Cadian charging an Ultramarine, just for being the two poster-boy codexes)

Depends on the edition and your table entirely, I imagine powergamers online just hate the idea of not being optimal but you really can fuck yourself hard depending on the scenario (just look at the innocent merman questioning how to get around on land last thread)

The appeal of ttrpgs for me is making a dumb character concept, but playing them straight in universe. Like a wizard who only knows chain lightning and uses it for every solution, or a barbarian master combat carpenter who specialized in making boats for some reason.
