Ragtag squad edition

>What this thread is for:
/tg/ gets shit done again and is creating a “Battle Bible” (Ala 2nd edition) for 4th edition Warhammer 40k.
>What this thread isn’t for:
Alternative ideas for what 4th edition could include, such as alternating activations, new unit ports, etc. This is a Stage 4 process and so there's plenty of time for that later on.
Don't engage edition warriors, trolls and rule revisionists. We're trying to keep it tight; mannered and objective focused.

BATTLE PLAN:
Stage 1:Finish revising and formatting the SRD.
Stage 2:Compile all GW official erratas into the SRD.
Stage 3: Condense all the codices into up to date SRD. - pending
Stage 4: Make a Hobby Enthusiast supplement for the SRD.
Stage 4: Make an Optional Rules supplement for the SRD.

Has anyone tried to play 4th edition with epic scale models?

Wait a minute, so if "the Old World" is set centuries before Warhammer Fantasy Battles has black Empire troops, female Bretonnian Knights and Dwarf Warriors, does this mean some horrific regression happened by the time of Karl Franz???

Seriously how would they address this?

Because it's done by people who doesn't know any better, who thinks in real-world political terms instead of in-universe realities. Of the three thigns you've mentionned, none exists in my Warhammer.
>Blacks don't exists anywhere, so they have no reason to be. Pigmeys exists in Warhammer, but they're not looking like that at all.
>Female Bretonnian knights used ot be unique and intresting to RP, now they are the .Warhammer female Warrior Archetype' over a class from the more 'equal' Empire.
>Female Dwarf warriors can be found in the deep the Karaks or hidden in Dwarf Communities in the Empire, but certainly not allowed to roam about freely getting in danger. Even less taking the Slayer Oath.

>>96496844
Have you read the Horned Rat? such a horrible mess, it seems they were more busy putting down clever puns and inside jokes than actually doing somehting good. And everytime there's a problem, it's either go see the half nosed Dwarf or there some woman who comes out of nowhere and brings them the solution on a silver platter.
Also, lesbian-allured female general and priestess, because of course. Even the skaven's henchWOMAN is super competent and is a strong leader type. The Princess is suddenly now a clever politican, trying to do more, despite being referted to a political tool in a wedding come next book.
Talk about removing my sense of disbelief! The art didn't help, but those characters, those plot lines..
>>
>>96497025
You'll note that the southlanders in Blood on the Reik come from a specific culture and have their own style of clothing. They're not just Hans Schmidt from Dunkeldorf who is inexplicably black.

>>96497980
I'm running THR now and it's fine. I don't remember any deus ex machina stuff. The lesbian general doesn't ever come up. It's not even explicitly stated, you have to read between the lines. Funny thing is that they glossed over Janna Eberhauer and she's been a lesbian since PBtT came out in the 80s.

They didn't have the balls to keep the line about the princess being a 'truly dumb blonde' but honestly if she stayed that way she'd be a very boring NPC.
>>
>>96496844

Female warriors are stupid enough in the 21st century, but it's completely ridiculous in pre-industrial levels of infant mortality, which are likely to be even higher in a crapsack setting like Warhammer. Problem is that modern RPG writers seem to be hacks who don't really know anything and have no real interest in history etc.

Every time I search for a cool "barbarian" in some RPG, no matter if it's dark fantasy or not, it's always the half-naked dude or chick that looks like he / she has just wake up after an university party.
It gives the same vibes that you get from watching an historical film and for some reason, the filmmakers hate natural colors and must put a filter that ruins your immersion.

Is it there a good RPG with proper "barbarians"?

I mean. But.... Frazetta barbarians are literally clad in bizarre motley assembled from whatever furs, teeth, bones, fibers and panels they can drape around themselves. You only find it to be not-bizarre because you're overexposed to a specific trope...

While you ignore the fact that Frazetta fucking ESTABLISHED that trope.

FUCKING DECADES BEFORE YOU WERE FUCKING BORN.

Fucking numpty dumbfuck infantile twat.
>>
>itt: umm ackshyually the original meaning of barbarian is simply "foreigner"
Ok and the original meaning of daemon is a guiding spirit that can be entirely benevolent. All evil hell demons that want to eat your soul are inaccurate and should not be in your games.

We are not in ancient greece anymore. Barbarian means "savage" now.

Barbarians are thematically closer to berserkers, which are specifically described as going into war 'bare-shirt' and going into a trance-like battle fury.

Once you understand this, your 'tism' should be soothed.

They're literally the same thing, in fantasy media.

I'm playing a rogue in a 2014 5e game. This game has some homebrew stuff, racial bonuses are changed around a bit, some spells are changed, e.g. Silvery Barbs and Goodberry are level 2 spells, and so on. It's a relatively punishing game, and dying as a player if you or your team as a whole fuck up can happen easily and has happened before during the course of the game. And death is permanent, as regular resurrection spells don't work, only very high level stuff like wish that we don't have yet.

I'm an elf rogue. Originally, when we started the game, I picked swashbuckler subclass. Elf racials are one wizard cantrip, I picked Booming Blade, 60 feet darkvision, 35 movement speed, and longbow proficiency. I originally wanted to play the character as a melee rogue, but due to difficulty of the game, it was simply not viable. So I've been more and more ranged as time went on. I've taken Elven Accuracy at level 4 and will soon be taking Sharpshooter at level 8. I have 20 DEX and 15 CON, other stats are mid, +1 or 0. We rolled for stats.

We're about to hit level 8 and I've been given the opportunity due to in-game happenings to switch my subclass to Arcane Trickster, and decided to take it. Now, I just have to decide which spells to take. As a level 8 Arcane Trickster, I'll be able to get three cantrips, and six spells, up to four of which can be level 2 and rest level 1. Four of those six spells have to be either illusion or enchantment school. What spells would you all recommend? Here's what I'm thinking (continued in next post):
>>
>>96498414
3 cantrips: Mage Hand (required), Light, Dancing Lights
This campaign spends a lot of time fighting in darkness, either at night, or underground. We have one character with Light cantrip in the party, but getting a second source of light can't hurt. Dancing Lights is for my benefit, it has 120 feet range so I can set it up way ahead of me and snipe at incoming enemies that I usually cannot see with my own 60 feet of darkvision.

2 level 1 spells: Shield (any), Tasha's Hideous Laughter (enchantment/illusion)
Shield is a great spell, but I wonder if I could do better? I can already halve damage from one attack as a reaction, Shield can outright stop damage and is incredibly potent if the enemy multi attacks. I only have 11 INT so any spell that requires a damage roll or a saving throw is a waste, but since my options for enchantment/illusion level 1 spells are so bad, I figured I could pick Tasha's Hideous Laughter in a freak chance I succeed at CCing the boss we're running away from.

4 level 2 spells: Invisibility (enchantment/illusion), Mirror Image (enchantment/illusion), Blur (enchantment/illusion), Misty step (any).
Mirror Image + Blur feels like an insane combo for survival, as only one requires concentration so I can have both up at the same time. Invisibility is also great for escaping or even scouting ahead in case stealth isn't enough. Misty Step seems like a great spell, but I wonder, should I get something else instead? As a rogue, I can already use disengage and dash as action + reaction and run away 70 feet (35 speed racial), so maybe I should get something else? Kinetic Jaunt might be outright superior to Misty Step, Enlarge/Reduce can give me +1d4 extra damage for ten turns as I'm sniping away at enemies at max range, or maybe even a level 1 spell that can also be cast at level 2 like False Life that gives me extra hit points to reduce the chance of getting killed in one unlucky round of rolls?

Mirror image and Blur seem good on paper, but considering most fights last 3 rounds tops, spending one of them to just defensively buff up when you are a ranged character ie already out of harms way and could sneak around with your bonus action instead it's not great pick. Blur is just straight up worse than Mirror image imo. Shield can be done on reaction at any time you get swarmed by enemies to give you a freakish ac just when you need it, without using any of your precious few actions.

Your reasoning on misty step is sound, it's nice to have, but with your limited slots and your cunning action you can probably do without it.

As someone who seems very preoccupied with defensive stuff in a deadly game, consider Fog cloud. An often forgotten trait of these spells that obscure vision is that attacks of opportunity cannot be made on targets that cannot be seen. Meaning you could bail a fellow player out if they're getting attacked by putting a fog cloud on them, allowing them to run out of there as if they had disengaged. Invisibility can achieve the same thing, but is only touch range, so more for yourself in most situations, and then you can just bonus action disengage.

If you have access to a feat, and you get to use Tasha's cauldron for everything, consider picking up the Metamagic Adept feat. Subtle and Quicken. Casting spells completely silently while sneaking around or in plain sight when talking to npcs without any indication it was you could really up the trickery feel of your character and would probably be really fun. With quicken you could also potentially pick up something like Hold person and fish for an auto-crit where you bonus cast the hold person and sneak attack crit them on the same turn if it lands. You could only do it once per long rest and it's not the best, but would feel really cool.
>>
>>96498476
Thanks for the Fog Cloud recommendation, I totally missed out on that spell when I was looking for stuff to pick and it seems pretty useful, especially since it's 120 feet range. I'll definitely consider that one.
Most encounters we go through are relatively easy when it comes to swarms of enemies, goblins and whatnot, but our DM likes to throw "boss encounters" at us pretty often. There was one recently that spooked me. A massive undead gorilla that could move 40 feet and had a legendary action to jump 60 feet and cause everyone in the melee range of where he lands to make a CON saving throw or get stunned. And he had multi attack. So that thing stunning and attacking you is a death sentence.
Now that I'm getting level 8, I'll be getting Sharpshooter so my goal is to always be at 120 feet away from the boss whenever we do a boss encounter, just to avoid creatures like this one. But DM also knows I'm getting Sharpshooter next level so he can design bosses specifically to bully me, which is why I want more defensive abilities. My only big issue with that is, my own darkvision is only 60 feet, and there's a chance I might be unable to see the enemy, depending on where the party members are. That's why I'm seriously considering getting Eldritch Adept - Devil's Sight at level 10, if I live that long. As Arcane Trickster, I have spellcasting so I'm eligible to take that feat. Alternatively, it's either Tough for 20 extra hit points, or Resilient (CON) for 10 extra hit points and proficiency in CON saves.

Why are some people so afraid to run games?
I bought a beginners box for Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, on a whim when I was visiting a comic shop around 2012 or 2013 and had my first ttrpg Experience the following weekend as a GM.
Since then, my players and I had a great time and most of them started running games on their own.
So why the fuck do I see so many idiots online, mystifying the job of a GM? It should be easier than ever to run games today (yes even online three out of four games are totally fine, if you filter out the obvious morons).

No, like, where does being the bratty kid from the future fall originwise? Not having to deal with it, having that be your deal.

I don’t suppose you have that wip?

I’m not trying to gaslight you by talking about origins, I’m hoping to gaslight you by posting an aggressively mid wip and having you fly into a rage and wanting to fix it. For real though, we need more smt jumps.

Let me be more clear, I don’t think there’s enough on her in the game to be confined to a specific origin. In a way the whole point of her existence is to challenge the default origins.

Unfortunately it’s been deleted, from memory I think Zelenin’s song, Jimenez’s being able to fuse with your buddies and Gore’s HFY undyingness were all capstones.

Greetings anon. Today I have made for you a thread for the creation of a Renegade Space Marine Chapter.

Hope it’s fun

https://2d4chan.org/wiki/Renegade_Space_Marine_Chapter_Creation_Table

First come first serve as usual, although discussion is both encouraged and welcome!
——

Our Chapter no longer serves the Imperium, having gone rogue for our own reasons. Importantly, we do NOT serve the Powers of Chaos!

First up, from what Legion do we derive our geneseed? Who is our Progenitor?

Ok here's the summary: ex-imperial fists fucked around with chaos, got banished and are now hiding as mercanries in a dead system.
While their last war was a big success, they only won BECAUSE of chaos fuckery and they also took heavy losses taking the sector. Because of their achievement they only got banished, not worse.
However their apothecaries got taken away so that can slowly rot and die.

They're taking on mercenary jobs and soon got discovered by the local freebooterz who supply them with heavy weaponry in exchange for their mercenary services.

Everyone in the chapter is unhappy with the current situation: they won a big war and their reward is hiding in shame and having to rely on Xenos to stay afloat.
Soon their grave mistake of fucking around with Chaos once calls out to them. It helped them out once so why not try it again?
So eventually they will turn to Chaos out of desperation.
>>
so for the color scheme of our boys I think it should be something very that fits the vibe of them being noticable and having a sort of heroric color scheme, maybe with a hint of something darker due to them using chaos weapons, any ideas

Dark gold (like a black ink mixed with gold kind of color) with a bright white used for their markings. Straight gold is gaudy but I imagine if you mix it into a color and do white for the markings, heraldry you have something that could work as an unignorable color scheme. Plus with them getting work freebooter equipment as Mercenaries, it kinda wears what they are on their sleeve: money

I'm playing one right now

Currently playing one in Dark Heresy 2 - Quarantine world/Adeptus Mechanicus/Seeker. Rolled fantastic stats for him (got 5 19s on 2d10), but his Agility is utter shit - managed to get 25 on 2d10+25. He is not truly fat, more like tall and heavyset. Not like it's that noticeable under his red robes.
>>
>>96496990
Hell yeah. It was a rough and tumble city campaign. I played a champion bar brawler. Big belly with a tattoo of some chump getting his teeth knocked out by a meaty fist on it. Favored small vests, no shirt. He was actually bigger into bar trivia contests than bar brawling as far as interests go, but people don't buy you drinks for bar trivia contests, so punching people it is.

Question of the Thread:
Do you prefer mech melee weapons or bare hand brawling?

Then maybe go for the Boa. An Adder duelist would likely benefit from stacking duelist upgrades but if you're tight on TV then I'd go Boa.

You anons watch any mecha recently?

My friends and I just finished a groupwatch of the most recent VOTOMs OVAs -- Alone Again, Phantom Arc, Case;Irvine, and VOTOMS Finder. Some really terrific mecha action in them, especially Case;Irvine and VOTOMS Finder.

I know the party line is that Finder takes place in a parallel universe or continuity or whatever, but there's really nothing in it that bars it from being part of the mainline universe/continuity. I mean, much like Star Wars, Star Trek, and many other sci-fi franchises, VOTOMs takes place in a whole goddamn galaxy -- the fictional Astragius galaxy. There's more than enough room for some technological, linguistic, aesthetic, and cultural differences.

Since Irvine and Finder are both 45-minute long standalones, they're great choices for a quick, satisfying dose of mecha action. The "chain" devices in Finder would be tricky to model in a game, but it certainly got me thinking.

I oughta watch Finder again. I remember just really disliking those weird gas weapons. The chain ropes were cool tho.

But yeah, I really enjoyed both that and Irvine. It's a shame they didn't seem to do too well.

I wish they continued finder in any way, I loved it .

I don't think soul ownership is linked to not liking to build stuff. As a kid I couldn't afford anything, eastern europe sucked. A few decades of working in London City as cleaner, and now I can afford all the models I want. Better then everying bar gran Koraczka cooking.

>The guy is huge.
Without his scenic base, I don't think he's that different from other primaris while Lion and Guilliman tower over primaris marines. I can imagine he was meant to be Corax and they scaled him down a bit to be primaris sized.
>>
>>96498480
agree. Size-wise he's no different from other primaris high HQ. If you took nuScale primaris Azrael and stand him next to 30k Alpharius, he has the same size as the primarch and you might assume the model is Lion el'Jonson (wearing Lion's helm and all)

All the old 30k primarch sculpts like Angron, Alpharius and Lorgar are simply scaled to the same size as primaris named characters.

It's not the size that's abnormal on the raven guard, it's he has so very many accessories and terrain pieces and doodads that he does seem primarch-ish. Even azrael who has a whole 2nd person walking on his base still seems more lowkey on accessorizing.

Fast as sonic. Holy shit.

>>96498213
I was asking about my build kek. Posted a 1st draft last thread. Maybe she'll be the third kidnapping victim
>>
>>96493762
Meliaya might try the history and literature club. She can do a lot for those clubs since she knows a lot about languages

>>96496745
I thought we were going for a ItsukixSumi?

>>96494183
I never thought that Meliaya would be considered to have a big ego twice her size but that would be a funny angle for her personality. I guess I shall lean on that for characterization purposes.
Garden gnome as a nickname is a fun one too, one that would make Meliaya annoyed.
"I AM NOT A GARDEN GNOME, FEEBLE BRAIN!"

>>96498375
Miss AI-chan, NOOO!!! That man is lying, there are no Shu figurines and Shu CDs in that black van! NOOO!! Alyona-chan tells me not to trust strangers and you shouldn't too! Do not go in the black van!
