>>96589085>What are some artifacts and other methods an evil Solar might have used to control their Lunar mate? And maybe some DBs too? I want their reincarnation to discover them.Slave Collars (WotLA pg63) are the most effective form of full-servitude mind control out there, and the Exalt-effecting versions were in enough use in the First Age to see surviving copies sometimes resurface, while also being used in ways traumatizing enough that the Dragonblood are still disgusted and stigmatized against them.Threefold Binding of the Heart (B&WT pg84/S&S pg136) is the most classic 'your heart belongs to me' spell in sorcery, and Lunars classically lacked the mental defense charms to effectively resist it. In the Solar Circle of sorcery though there was Evocation from the Mirror (B&WT pg91), which let you replace people with mirror-versions of themselves that were your devoted slaves, which could make for quite the mind control horror story if someone was using it to surround themselves with the mirrored duplicates. If you want less mind control and more of a poisoned-apple/explosive-collar type thing, the Solar could offer their Lunar partner a powerful hearthstone sourced from a manse they control, which grants the bearer complete immortality, regenerating even from death, so long as the hearthstone is attuned and functional. Unfortunately for them, the hearthstone is the Gem of Incomparable Wellness and they instantly die if they take it off or the Gem otherwise becomes nonfunctional (such as if the manse is sabotaged), and the Solar has a powerful hold over them. This could even come back in later ages if the manse survived (which would probably mean the Lunar survived as well), giving their reincarnation a powerful leash on an otherwise unkillable elder Lunar.Of native charms, 2e's Rose-Lipped Seduction Style (Glories: TUS) reduces MDVs against the Solar to 0 for people with a tie to them. Everybody who falls into the Solar's orbit is helplessly entranced.

>>96587540Wasn't the anon you were talking to, I just suggested a use of bio-manipulation that wasn't either:>power-granting>major shapeshiftingBiochemistry manipulation is neither of those, so I reckon it fits.It can even grant short-living superstrength pseudo-power though overclocking various glands to flood the body with certain hormones.Stuff like adrenaline, cortisol, and a number of others would put a person into a fight-or-flight mode, with emphasis on the "fight" with the right mix.Simultaneously, it would temporarily lift the safety limits on force exerted by muscles, resulting in >100% performance at the cost of potential crippling injury.Bam! Hulk mode with tard strength, useful in a pinch as a power-up for your disposable henchman. Works even better with a bit of warmup and an overall good physique.
>>96441201What are your thoughts on the incarceration of villains? And how easily can villains break out in your setting, are breakouts relatively rare or do the prisons practically have revolving doors like Arkham?

>>96587685super strength is a power
>>96591619It's not super-strength though, it's an entirely natural, adrenaline-fueled overclocking. It doesn't make you a superman, just a teensy bit stronger, and a little bit faster. All at the low, low cost of lifted safeguards against permanently injuring yourself. You can count yourself lucky if you merely end up a sore all over after it.There's a high risk of torn tendons, ripped muscles, and broken bones when using this "overclock".It's why you don't to this to yourself, but rather some disposable henchman.

>>96587729Preparation is play.
I played an incredible game over the past few days, and it's the second time ever that I've actually had a solo game come to an actual conclusion. Ever since I was a kid, I always had this unrealistic dream/sexual fantasy of being an explorer during the late 1800s/early 1900s and finding a tribe of sexy women. Right? So, rolled up a character and just went with whatever the story told me. Over the past week I have actually got to see what the narrative of that fantasy I've always had was, and it was really cool.Game started with being stranded on a deserted island with a bunch of big-titty women. Faced several trials and tribulations, (Including the idea that being in such a paradise would eventually grind on your nerves at times.) And then ends with my character, years later. He's standing on the island's only mountain, looking at his kingdom. His beard is long, his skin is rough and tan. But when he looks down at the village he built with his own two hands, he can see his harem of sister-wives and he is contented... Okay with never again seeing the outside world.

>>96591724Glorantha is build on comparitive mythology, which in the setting was practiced by the god learners. It involves searching for similarities between religions and trying to daw conclusions from that, but is heavily criticised since the people who practice it tend to gloss over vast differences between religions and cultures to make their points work. The most famous example of it is the Indo-European sky father, who Orlanth is based off.Fans of Runequest fight over whether the gods as presented in the books are how they are viewed everywhere in the setting, or if their should be localised religions with vastly different views on the gods. Jeff is a hardcore believer in the former, while as far as I can tell most fans prefer the latter, since it's how religions in real life work.

>>96451276There's always the horror that comes from the dread of the inevitable coupled with a loss of strength and ability, like being out of fuel outside of contact range drifting in space or sinking in an ocean while desperately trying to find a way to survive just for the dwindling hope of being found before it's too late, then throwing in the uncertainty of it being friend or foe who has finally come for you if you do manage to survive that long.
playing 5e and on the 3rd session at level 5 each they have encountered the BBEG and now plan to booby trap his lair with alchemical fire and engage him in combat. They say they just want to talk to him, but they are specifically planning to light his lair on fire BEFORE attempting to engage with him in conversation or anything. The players have encountered this guy before, they should know he's an extremely formidable enemy. When they first met him, he had cast meteor swarm and earthquake in the same turn, reducing an entire village to rubble.I don't want to straight up tell my players "he shrugs off the alchemical fire" because he is immune to fire damage, and I don't want to say "well he casts 2 spells this round and kills everyone"Though despite this, I still do want to stick to rules as written as closely as possible. They know what they are going into when engaging this guy.My question is, what should I do? most retarded redditors just say "well let them do it and see how it goes!" somehow implying my players will get a kick out of getting TPK'd almost instantly by an end game boss at level 5, on their 3rd session.Theres always the route where he gives them a villainous monologue after "evading" the trap they laid, but i feel like that just is basically the same thing as saying "well your trap was pointless" sort of discouraging them to try something like that again. Should I just make him send some weaker villains in his place so they can enjoy a real fight? the problem is the BBEG explicitly stated he will be meeting them again at this location, so if he doesn't show after my players spent a couple hours planning exactly how this trap would work I feel like they may be dissappointed once they realize the BBEG won't be the one taking it.
>>96590980yeah this does seem like the best solution. initially i thought my players would feel like i'm being a sissy DM that doesn't want his "special boys" killed in combat, but im probably looking to deeply into it. they are gonna have fun as long as shit gets blown up.
>>96590941None of them would know in-character that its a bad idea? You dont have a wizard or cleric who would know that someone with town annihilating magic can probably just teleport out?
>>96591059these players are new, and i don't want to fully take away their agency by constantly telling them what their characters would think and feel in-world, even though it seems appropriate. from how I see it, I showcased directly how powerful this guy could be, and they still ended up on this plan to explode his lair for some reason. They don't even want to fight him, just talk to him. But when they talk about the event, they definitely are planning for violence and hoping that they win the encounter through the booby trap alone, or at LEAST make the fight easier due to the booby traps (it will not help at all)So despite the fact that they should obviously be scared of this guy in-character, I'm not going to hammer that in more than I already have. Maybe next time we play I will try to double check if they REALLY want to piss this guy off. Should I just explicitly tell them "if you do this, he is going to get pissed and kill you" and then let the events play out RAW?
>>96591099What is he exactly? Just a high level wizard or something else? Either way, I think the play would be to have the villain bring along a handful of guards, have them instantly get blasted in whatever trap, and then make it so the explosion ends up collapsing the ceiling. That gives you a reason why both the villain and party should be more focused on leaving rather than fighting. You could even have him actively get crushed or buried in rubble, but still have a way to get out of even that. But part of it is just making it a learning experience, that this guy can not only survive a big explosion like that, but also has an escape method they'd need to account for in any future planes. If anything, this might be a good chance to introduce that sort of gimmick. You can make the trap work and have him "die", only for his corpse turn into a bunch of snakes which all slither away and reform and revive him later. Maybe he's cursed, maybe it's an artifact. Get creative. Either way, it's then less of an asspull to show how tough the villain is by having him no-sell the plan, but instead more of a what-the-fuck moment for the players. They get the satisfaction of the trap actually going as planned, but not being enough in a way that even the PCs couldn't have anticipated.
>>96591099>i don't want to fully take away their agency by constantly telling them what their characters would think and feel in-worldYou don't need to tell them how they think and feel, but you can give them information that they would know as inhabitants in the world the game is set in. If it would make sense that their character would know he is a formidable wizard who might fuck them up, then they know it.
