>>96768261It's just boardwipe control + artifact o-rings until they can get out their synthesizers or bays. You can go faster than they can manage, bait out their removal piecemeal on cheap creatures that make themselves wide or tall over time, hate on their bays and synthesizers.Or you can bait them into tapping out to dump their hand and play an artifact boardwipe like Desist or Season of Gathering.Really it seems most of the decks people bitch about have a reliance on something that's hard to interact with, and just packing stuff that can interact hoses that deck.
>>96768761but sister you are playing monoblack tempo which is far more cringe...
>>96768261Landfall is pretty good for that: synthesizer removal is expensive and sorcery speed, so as long as you have protection in your hand you're good.I never tried it but something that should work is Doorkeeper Thrull because absolutely everything they do is ETB effects

>Player whines about not having a major role in the story>He's playing a generic human fighterHow do you deal with players like this? I let already let him get drunk and pick fights when he visits taverns, what more do martial players want?
>>96768376Who the fuck are you playing with that this is the case? Most players I know who play Humans of any variety are 100% better roleplayers than everyone playing any kind of freakshit race, who tyoically use their characters race as their characters personality.
>>96768619Consult >>96768376>>96768631Nta, but this is an overwhelming majority of people who play human fighters.>muh friegshietAsk me how I know you don't play at all.But here, let me humor you. Spot the player doing fuck all in the following groups:>human paladin, elf rogue, elf cleric, human fighter>elf ranger, halfling rogue, human cleric, human sorcerer, human fighter>half elf ranger, dwarf fighter, human cleric, human fighter>tiefling bard, human rogue, half elf paladin, human barbarian, dwarf cleric>human sorcerer, elf ranger, halfling bard, human fighterI will give you the clue: it's the last one listed in each of those groups. As you can see, predominately human/elf groups, too. Yet somehow, when human fighter got involved, it was always the most passive, disengaged Silent Bob who did fuck-all. And in two cases, they had to be further pumped to even engage in combat.
>>96769036In almost every group you doubled up on martials making at least one of them redundant
>>96766801why is the first one about something that happened in the game but the other three just attacks on personality traits

I'm planning a road trip horror campaign, where players will drive down an ominous high way and encounter things like haunted motels, cryptids in the woods, small towns with dark secrets, bands of murderous bikers, etc. I already got some ideas brewing (like most rest stops are odd, but not dangerous to get the players to let their guards down when the dangerous ones pop up, crashed cars on the roadside that can be scavenged but will try and run them off the road later), but could we get a thread going for road trip horror ideas, like the space horror threads in the good ol' days?
>>96769046Don't forget top-secret government test sites in the area. Bonus points if the game takes place during the Cold War.

Any RPG brewers here? I'm designing one for fun as a little side project and I've spent a lot of time reading different games and also running them for my group in between our sessions. Right now the only thing closest to concrete I have in my head is an idea I have for the main gimmick of how combat works, but I don't know if it's even the right approach to build the other 90% of the game around that gimmick. How would you design a game from scratch?
>>96768954whats the gimmick?without knowing more its impossible to gauge.but having it centered around a single mechanic shouldnt be too bad, but how can factors such as attribute, equipment, player choice, environment and alot of other things effect it?also whats the vibe of the game? how crunchy do you want it to be?
>>96768954Much depends on the gimmick. You can say that Slugbluster is based around a single gimmick of buying story pieces, or Electric Bastionland is based on a single gimmick of a randomized hex crawl. However, it is obvious that they are based on already established viable rules like BitD action resolution, and have a lot of content to run a very specific campaign. So what I want to say is you don't necessarily need to design a complete TTRPG for friends since it is a huge project that requires a lot of time, work, and dedication. But you can take the game you like and use homebrew combat on top of it and run a campaign. It sounds more realistic and something one can accomplish. An achievable goal is the most important thing in any hobby.

Those are all things that come up in play (depending on the group) and came into play during Gary’s games. ADnD also has a smidge more “superhero” play at the upper levels because of Wish, teleport, and other spells.Me oh my, they even recommend AD&D, our Fishfaggots favourite game.I suppose this means that it's secretly his reddit profile and we can start conspiracy boarding about how he's been planning this for years, ect.

How do you prefer your magic, and how did you design the system for your setting?
>>96756169Okay, this is based. Like, 1000% based. Did you ever write anything up for it?
>>96617229My settings magic ended up getting so complicated it needed me to make a wiki and give it a page. In short though,in the setting theres the physical plane - and the astral plane which invisibly overlaps it. In the astral plane, ideas take the form of a sort of mist, with denser concentrations of ideas becoming thicker and even changing states of matter in some cases. Some ideas are more powerful than others, namely if they are attached to powerful entities (such as "nuclear bomb") or connect to many other ideas as a root (such as "destruction" tying to "death", "pain", "darkness", "purity", etc.) Magic of any kind is when you take ideas from the astral plane and actively use them for an effect.Spells are large strings of ideas brought together, and are usually shortened verses of a larger prayer or poem. The poetry itself makes the phrasing easier to remember (poetry is meant to be spoken after all), and also allows for more subtle explanations of ideas to be said in fewer words by relying on the reader's understanding. You could theoretically detail every elemental step involved in making a fireball, but its a lot quicker and memorable to remember a bible verse than a 20-step cooking recipe without a book.Souls are themselves collections of information (for example human, male, womanless, penniless, a10 eyes) detailing every detail about yourself. Your body creates lots of magical energy due to all the concepts in it, regardless of if youre aware of it or not. If you can awaken the chakras in your soul (through traumatic life experiences and/or personal growth), you can cast spells or temporarily remove them to use astral projection (a la jojo stands).Or you can just ingest sentient hallucinogens that temporarily awaken your chakras to make deals with powerful magical entities and have them do stuff for you
>>96756169Where did you get this idea? And how much damage did it do?
>>96696947I agree, my focus items are just amplifiers. They let the mage channel more energy with less strain on themselves.
>>96617229What are magic systems so bad that they make you want to tear your hair out because they’re so shit? get to dislike Harry Potter magic as I got older, as they make no real explanation of why magic responds to pseudo-Latin words, say that you apparently need magic to make potions despite what Snape said early on, etc.

I seriously downplayed the importance of this card for a Witchcrafter kit until I got back onto the Witchcrafter grindset. It should be no surprise that a card that gives you instant access to your main deck bosses in response to getting ash'd is good, but just being able to put Haine on the field to insulate you from stuff like Imperm and Veiler while you're setting up is pretty freaking amazing. I can probably stand to make the Witchcrafter parts of my deck a lot more compact because of this card.

After playing Genesys across Duelingbook, nexus, and a few games in person since the week it dropped, I have to say that its a good idea, but if they opt to keep it competitive and not drop the ceiling its going to die like the main format has in numbers. There's too many decks playing on level with their advanced counterparts while you are at ends trying to fit handtraps in to keep them at bay. Ninjas, Gladiator beast, Lightsworn, and other odd decks got neutered while decks like D ruler get to fill in gaps easily with Armed dragons, Onomat have their newest, strongest wave untouched, and generaider put up boards of 5 cards easily when left uninterrupted. It's a great idea, but they need to either admit that you need 15 handtraps to play still and adjust as needed or murder the past 4 years worth of archtypes with more points and forced omissions due to space.I really hope they figure it out, as I do want Yugioh to stay around. This format brought a lot of people back to my locals casually, but its starting to wane because of obvious metas forming. That meta being the obvious haves vs have-nots.
>>96767139>I would call Tearlaments the strongest female only archetype in history if we ignore Kaleido but otherwise, which ones take the cake?Seriously? It's not as broken, but the deck is 100% girls, since robots have no gender, even the extra deck is sometimes 100% girls too, as some lists don't use dharc.>>96767380Gishky only really works with spright, but the synergy just isn't there in TCG because elf is banned.>>96768229The spell is so amazing that it's seeing use in magistus mitsurigi piles in OCG, since genni can copy the effect, but not the cost.
