Finally painting some more of my Necrons. Got a second 500 Worlds Box built along with a Royal Court box that are all primed. All these guys need is some finishing touches and a liberal application of Snow texture paint. Hopefully I can move on from these tomorrow night.

Literally the story of every new indie system in the last 20 years. What's wrong with people in this industry? Does this industry only attract retards or what? It seems that way because only DND has created an official online service, while the rest believe that Internet is something secondary in the 21st century.

The problem is more complex than that. It's not just that they don't advertise, but most don't really have any place to advertise that isn't out of their price range. Instagram is the only place I ever recall seeing ads for TTRPG stuff and most of them were either D&D slop like Obojima, which ran ads for months, or they were for high profile kickstarters that had already made millions anyways like that one witch game.

The only other ways to get exposure seems to be giving handjobs under the table to D&D youtubers during the brief windows where those faggots feel like making more D&D content will be bad for their career because WotC fucked up again. Unless you've already got an in with that clique, that's not going to be an option either. Likewise for any other version of "get an e-celeb/newsites/popular blog to promote the game"

They could go to some indie RPG communities and servers and try to promote there, but then they're shilling in a sea of shills.

If they're lucky, Indie Press Revolution might pick up their game, but those retards don't select for quality. They select for vibes and queerness. Even then, the most they'll do to promote your game is leave a stack of the books on their table amongst about a hundred other random, barely curated games.

What else does that leave? DrivethruRPG? Itchio? Both of those places are infamously bad about discoverability, let alone ease of search. Putting a game up on either is best for ease of access, but the odds of anyone finding anything you make organically are slim to none.

The RPG industry has been suffering with these problems for decades and no one wants to make anything better that would actually help. RPGs need something equivalent to Steam, and instead we've got some retarded storefronts and a bunch of useless niche communities.

The World of Darkness had free publicity in the form of a bunch of popular books series in the 2000s that openly ripped ideas from the setting (like The Southern Vampire Mysteries). What did White Wolf do? Nothing, literally nothing, just sat on their asses and no lawsuits, no demands to convey to readers that the books are based on their setting, just 0 activity. Honestly, I don't understand how you can do nothing when life has given you a one in a billion chance.
>>
>>97827818
Did they rip ideas from white wolf, or were they both ripping ideas from other shit (mainly Anne Rice.) I like WoD but it's mostly derivative as fuck.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

Wait, so, tyrannosaurs had feathers but not the morphologically near-identical allosaurs? How does that work? Freakishly convergent evolution? Tyrannosaurid carcinization?
>>
>>97827306
>There's a problem with pic related and it's not that the blue-grey spinosaur is featherless. What's the problem?
Just guessing here, but some possibilities:
>the parasaurolophus was a swamp/shore dwelling animal and wouldn't be fucking around on a dry plain of some sort
>I think it's supposed to have a ducklike bill rather than a deer muzzle?
>for all I know the two species were separated by millions of years and/or existed on separate continents
>>
>>97827395
They probably did, there's a lot of pushback against feathered dinos on 4chan as part of the whole anti-modern-[blank] thing. /an/ in particular has a schizo who thinks that it's a secret plot by the jews, trying to turn dinosaurs gay, lol
>>
>>97827395
Great question. Carcinsation doesn't apply as they both shared the theropod body plan of claw footed biped, those are inherited rather than convergent traits. However, increased size, enlarged skulls, and having at least some forelimb reduction are convergent evolution.

A time line might help
Genus Allosaurus lived 155 to 145 MYA
>65 million years pass
Tyrannosaurus rex lived about 80 to 66 MYA
>63 million years pass
As a taxon, Homo appears about 3 MYA
>3 million years pass
You today

Early hominids lived closer to T. rex than T. rex lived to the last allosaur. T. rex is at the midpoint between you and the allosaurs.

The Zahn take on the clone wars is so much more kino than what Lucas did in the prequels.
>>
>>97826106
>"Large group of planets and companies who are sick of the Republic" was around long before he was. There would've eventually been a war even without all the Jedi and Sith meddling and fighting in the background.
Not really. The companies were fine with teh Republic's corruption. It was Palpatine who actually pushed the first act against the TF via taxation of routes and at the same time pushed Gunray to power, setting up the Battle of Naboo and future separatist sentiment. Palpatine was the first real Chancellor to not bow down to corruption as Valorum took it up the ass. Planets not under the Republic generally didn't care that they were ignored until after Dooku convinced them
>>97827665
Retarded. Zahn's take is extremely lazy and unoriginal. Lucas' PT is absolute kino, clone madness and Spaarti bullshit is so fucking boring. Honestly I wish the Thrawn Trilogy got reworked to actually fit later media but I know a lot of OTcucks would go bonkers that their sacred books got reworked. Honestly if you don't like the PT you don't even like SW, you like an incomplete idea of what you think SW should be.

Wrong. That's why everyone liked 4e so much. Because instead of describing what your character was doing, you just declared the name of your best power every round and stated the mechanics clearly and concisely.

If you aren't playing your game like 4e, then you're not playing at all.

Washington’s War, and while I own the game physically most of my many, many plays have been on Rally the Troops.
I have like a 80% winrate, though to be fair a lot of people just flatly do not know how to play.
>dice or fixed values for combat resolution?
I lean towards dice but it’s a difficult conundrum. Deterministic combat doesn’t feel like combat to me very often, it’s far too mechanistic. However actually mitigating the problems of dice combat usually require a significant amount of rules overhead that most people don’t want to deal with.
>>97825524
>Dice should either have marginal impact or there should be some serious luck mitigation mechanics. Most times when people cope that these mechanics exist, the mitigation mechanics are the marginal part, not the core dice luck aspect.
Making dice combat *acceptable* is actually a very simple calculation: you need a wide variety of possible outcomes while also tightly controlling just how many of those outcomes are actually possible within a given dice roll. In other words, you need a humble wargame CRT. The problem is that CRTs are a lot of extra complication and not practical for anything but wargames and their autistic fans.

What's wrong with enuncia? Like, have you even read the Ravenor scene where Tuxedo-wearing pysker Toros Revoke summersaults around the paired golden rhyming swords of a golden daemon Incunabula while blasting it with primordial un-words? Or are you just a secondary who judges Black Library authors by their work's wiki write-ups?

Because, chucklefuck, I don't think 'alakazam' and 'open sesame' and 'expecto patronum' fit the idea that psykers are all one mental slip away from becoming demonic onaholes or enslaver gates. GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

There can't be one, that's the point. Autism is used to describe everything from people who are passionate about niche topics to people who smash their skulls against walls and need to wear diapers because they can't use the toilet. It's a bullshit category. That's why you’re going to have to describe what actual qualities you want to model. "Autistic" is a meaningless term.

The issue is that GURPS is a turn based rpg and doesn't really represent how difficult it'd be to carefully aim for the head or even retaliate against someone foaming at the mouth and wailing in you, which would be quite overwhelming. Except AoA just gives you a +4 to your own hit chance and in turn you're completely defenseless. The opponent just parries or dodges your AoA and easily attacks back.

Ye olde zerkers had shields and defended themselves, they weren't completely careless and easily headshotted.

Good question. Will probably play a goblin girl myself to fit with the theme. Still in the planning phase but I'm considering just using Forbidden Lands as the setting, repurposed for everyone being cute girls. I've skimmed through it a bit already they have goblins and halflings technically being the same species, with 50% of children born to one coming out as the other and being raised by the same kind. That's a fun idea I can work with as an excuse. Maybe the males are rare, and they're all orcs or something, I don't know. I'm not sure what system I'll be using for actual play, but getting pretty adept at boostrapping systems together. I've been a bit obsessed with Mythras lately, and its grittiness does match the setting. I dunno if it really matches the tone of goblin adventurers though, anyone know of some other decent systems I can check out?

Forbidden Lands probably isnt a good idea for this sort of game, but I don't really feel like making one up myself and it already has a ton of content to explore with enough randomness to make solo play fun.

Play Labyrinthus. It already has the rgular goblin and the "good-looking goblins" you want. Also if you like exploration it actually has better rules and more variety

I support fully the establishment of yuri harems

Which is the more humiliating punishment for failing her mission - forced to serve drinks and cosplay as a succubus, a bunny girl or in a china dress? I think bunny girl is classic surely

Recently I found some Humanity Fuck Yeah YouTube videos that use AI voice narration on my feed. After using them as background noise while cleaning my apartment I found that that most of them are more or less the same. Humans are the only ones who know how to fight/love sex/survive/etc. How can we save the genre or reinvent it so it isn't so stale?

>Imagine the opposite happening: Imagine it's a HFY story about how we beat some alien species with bows and arrows against their spaceships and giant robots. Hell, make it so we have dragon friends too, one dragon every 3 people even
>Do you think we have a change of winning? Even Independence Day was stretching it with the whole computer virus shit, a bunch of spear chuckers doing the same is just ridiculous
The difference here is that humans are the victorious underdogs, so the audience would cheer and roar and beat their chests at humanity's victory over the icky alien invaders despite it not making sense. In the same way, they would seethe over an alien invasion story where the aliens just block the sun and let humans freeze and starve to death despite it making sense.
It was never about reason, but ingroups.

except the humans don't have giant robots, they have consumer grade power lifters they strapped some weapons to which are still smaller than some of the local wildlife the Na'vi hunt
They're also not the full force of earth, they're a corporation that is outnumbered drastically and the second half of the movie is about the Na'vi realizing that if they go strength in unity they can win
And their space ships have literally 0 combat ability because they're actually constrained by physics

And even despite all that remember that the Na'vi still lost and had to be bailed out by their God who turned out to be real

The humans in Avatar are not fucking independence day levels strong, they're not even the military, they're just a bunch of corporate mercs forced to work with consumer grade products they jury-rigged into something resembling military because every single weapon they have has to be produced on-site since one of the core most points of the entire god damn movie is that interstellar travel is ridiculously expensive and difficult

True but they always seem to focus on the sexual mechanics, I'm more talking about mechanical buffs that persist into conventional gameplay. The post-nut buffs if you will/

>>97811241
>>97811433
>>97811811
Depends entirely on the mechanism. If a spell specifies the size increase/decrease effects like Enlarge/Reduce does, use those because specific trumps general.

For the things that change your size but don't specify the stat changes it's an open question if you use the rules as if you'd take the size increase rules from a monster gaining Hitdice, or you'd gain nothing at all. (I'd probably give the natural armor increases at least to partly offset the size penalty to general and touch AC
>>
>>97813872
I try not to get involved in homebrew anymore. Sorry.

Maybe let a dragon's princess concubines gain some SLAs of the dragon plus some elemental resistance based on HD.
>>
>>97813872
>offset the size penalty to general and touch AC
Why do they need to be offset? Shit's bigger now, it's going to be easier to hit. Monster advancement isn't really analogous to having its size magically altered.

Because you're gonna have a tougher hide from the scaleup.

>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.

The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.

D&D's had a bunch of minis games, even leaving aside the mass battle rules for the RPG and OG Chainmail.

Strange pulls, none of these significantly feature armies.
>marathon
Soon-to-be radioactive brand whose lore mostly boils down to "and then the hero killed the bad guys," "and then the AI went crazy" and "and then everybody was blown up with a really big bomb." Does not exactly lend itself to large scale engagements.
>street fighter
This might be the worst pick of all. A series entirely about 1v1 fights with fluff no one cares about.
>>
>>97827820
>armies
You don't need to be a mass battle game to be a wargame.
