Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games. Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!Last thread: >>97665641Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/Worldbuilding links: pastee.dev/p/sp2Mdb5Ihttps://cryptpad.fr/pad/#/2/pad/view/Eo+fK41FKVR7xDpbNO0a0N4k0YYxrmyrhX3VxnM14Ew/Fantasy map generator: https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator/wbi/: https://discord.gg/6ZjEc7dy4TWorldbuilding Hub: https://discord.com/invite/wGjxK3YThe Writer's Forge: https://discord.com/invite/CUxHxWqTira: https://discord.com/invite/f52W6KgDawn of Victory: https://discord.gg/hUAynC3wConlangerama: https://discord.com/invite/ceKjZBr2jCComment too long. Been thinking about roads again.
>>97826060>Any good ways to explain the difference between a mortal and a monster in your fantasy setting?I have three different types of soul, the aetheric soul of mortals, the elemental animus of elementals (elementals that have become self aware/distinct "races" essentially) and I forgot what I called the liminal/fae version. So "monsters" would be different from mortals on a fundamental level. Although mortals can become corrupted or otherwise changed into monstrous forms so I guess the distinction isn't so clear cut in all scenarios.
What are your in world slurs? Do elves call dwarfs diggers?
>>97827264Race based slurs aren't really impactful or all that insulting/offensive in my setting. Like the Blooded might refer to "lesser" peoples as stock (as in livestock, you know, because they literally feed off them or use them for their utility). But people are generally more concerned with what the blooded do, not what they say. There are still stories from before the Apex was revived, when powerful blooded did whatever they pleased in their domain, including horrific fleshcrafting and unethical experimentation. So just being referred to with dehumanizing language is basically nothing. Fera will refer to humans as hairless or baldies, since fera are covered in body hair. But it's generally seen as a childish insult with no real impact or venom behind it.Lizardmen will occasionally call the other races apes, but again there is no bite behind it.People got more serious shit to deal with then fantasy racism. Hell, to the people in Centennial, comments about piss and shit are FAR more offensive to them.Meanwhile to the people of Soul, blasphemy in general and especially blasphemy against their main god Sol, are fighting words that will get you killed. They have zero tolerance for it.
>>97822512What kind of stories are you looking to tell or games you want to play?Let your narrative or design goals inform and influence your worldbuilding. For example the whole ecology of magic in my setting is designed from the ground up to be a ongoing conflict motivator that ties directly into why monster filled dungeons exist and are actually a good thing, as well as always giving a reason to go out into the dangerous wilds since it's highly lucrative to those who can consistently survive.

>>97827167I haven't looked at that one. You might be able to use stars without numbers. That one has a lot of options
>>97827164I think that name rings a bell, I saw it when I looked up CSC in the archive. It's a really great piece of work, I've been having a marvelous time with it at my Gongfarmers chapter. The next adventure I want to do is a multiple-choice mission where the PCs are offered three jobs from their fixer; >I've got a guy who wants a guy dead. I've got another guy who wants someone...extracted against their will. Nothing bad will happen to him, in case you care. And I also have a straightforward bodyguard/escort gig. Take your pick, I have other runners who'll do the others.Turns out, it's all the same guy. A mob informant is trying to duck out of his deal. The District Attorney wants him to testify, the triads want him dead, he wants to go to Tahiti with his mistress. The PCs will be up against two other teams of runners who have opposing objectives.
Anyone here ever tried using the Veins of the Earth cave generation system? I like how it can make nonlinear and challenging passages, but I can see it becoming repetitive with the limited number of options.
>>97827632Not a fan of abstract maps, honestly. Particularly those that claim to create 3d maps but actually give you 2d planar graphs.

>>97826409Mao had no problems with Kung Fu practitioners who were brainwashed into being obedient communist lackeys. Unfortunately for him, there weren't that many around. At least not as many to convince him that a purge was unnecessary.
>>97826423Cultivation novels are essentially about a bunch of guys using magic, alchemy, and violence to transcend to higher planes of existence, it doesn't take much to switch the Celestial Bureaucracy to gibbering idiot gods.
>>97826382>It's a well-documented fact that Ip Man used to be a copThat doesn't mean he kung-fu'd his way through riots or that he trained cops to use wing chun to fight rioters. You're conflating basic training, which all cops do, with the movies where this guy was an untouchable badass.
>>97819486Killed by Jackie Chan
>>97826963Again, Ip Man wasn't the invincible superman of the exaggerated movies based on his life, nobody is capable to put down hordes of people with his Kung Fu irl. But the very fact he was a police officer during times of strife disproves the accusation that "he never regularly fought people", as the fact that he was selected to supervise police training, something a fake master could never achieve in pre-WWII China, disproves the accusation that he was just a moron spewing Bullshido, like many modern chinese lolcows. As for teaching cops Wing Chun, Ip Man did exactly that: several among them went on to be Wing Chun masters themselves, and take students of their own. Apparently, there were a few whose interest got beyond basic training. All of this is well documented: famously, Wing Chun associations very meticulously record master-student's lineages. While you can, technically, print a fake certificate and sell yourself as a true Sifu, trained by legendary masters, you would be immediately sued the moment actual practitioners learn of your existence should you decide to pull this trick with Wing Chun. Bullshido dealers either invent their style or claim to be the last successors of some style among the many that got purged by the commies.

>mimimi, humans don't have their own feature, mimimi, we have to invent somethingNecromancy right here. When was the last time you saw non-human necromancer, lich or vampire? That's right, they practically don't exist because other races are simply inferior when it comes to necromancy and those non-human undead are so pathetic that everyone forgets about their existence in 5 minutes . Except for that one orc, but even he understood that he was worthless and therefore got himself a human body to finally become a full-fledged lich. So yes, here is your feature humans - necromancy, you know that I am right, you can't run away from the truth forever.
>>97816598Anon, millions of normies know what a White Walker is because GoT went mainstream. Those same normies probably have never heard the word "lich" their lives, unless their kids watched Adventure Time or something (another example of non-human undead).
>>97816759>Elder scrolls has plenty of dunmer necromancers. They'd stab you for calling them that. Dunmer are hardcore anti-necromancy except in very strict circumstances. In their view most necromancy is slavery of the dead, which is absolutely unacceptable.
>>97816513I feel like elf undead are exceptionally common in fantasy settings. especially in the kitchen sink of genre tropes that form the backdrop for most tabletop games.

>>97821498The Zahn take on the clone wars is so much more kino than what Lucas did in the prequels.
>>97826106>"Large group of planets and companies who are sick of the Republic" was around long before he was. There would've eventually been a war even without all the Jedi and Sith meddling and fighting in the background. Not really. The companies were fine with teh Republic's corruption. It was Palpatine who actually pushed the first act against the TF via taxation of routes and at the same time pushed Gunray to power, setting up the Battle of Naboo and future separatist sentiment. Palpatine was the first real Chancellor to not bow down to corruption as Valorum took it up the ass. Planets not under the Republic generally didn't care that they were ignored until after Dooku convinced them>>97827665Retarded. Zahn's take is extremely lazy and unoriginal. Lucas' PT is absolute kino, clone madness and Spaarti bullshit is so fucking boring. Honestly I wish the Thrawn Trilogy got reworked to actually fit later media but I know a lot of OTcucks would go bonkers that their sacred books got reworked. Honestly if you don't like the PT you don't even like SW, you like an incomplete idea of what you think SW should be.
>>97827220>You cannot make a copy of a man and print a woman.Scientifically, you can. I mean, all you need to do is, when you inject the dna into the egg, make sure it's an XX chromosome, rather than XY and boom, female clone. That being said, the psychological aspect would be a crapshoot. You may end up making a biological female with gender dysphoria due to a considerable chunk of its genes being male and if said genes end up developing the reasoning centers of the brain... Then again, this is all hypothetical at best, like the majority of psychology. In any case, i find it hilarious that, as per usual, the guy spouting off the slurs on 4chan to make him sound like a big man is the one who also decided bring science into the show about space magic wizards trying to stop an evil space magic wizard making a moon-sized planet blower-upper-gun, because THAT'S the straw that broke the camels back.
