>>97352437Yes. It is illegal to use dice as counters in sanctioned events. The official reason is that they cannot be confused with other game elements, and while Dice mechanics are not at all common, they are still a thing that exists. The unofficial reason is because of how easy it is to either cheat, or accidentally roll something like a D20 to a different value.>https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/downloads/penalty_guide/YGOTCG_Tournament_Policy_v_2_5.pdf>Counters must be items that cannot be confused with other game elements. >Items that are overly large, could damage cards or other tournament property, or have graphics or text inappropriate for an all-ages environment cannot be used.>Physical counters are required – the “counter” function in NEURON cannot be used without also using physical counters.>Counters must be added to cards in the appropriate quantity (example: if card effect(s) would place 4 counters on a card, Duelists should add four counters, rather than using a die placed to show “4.” Tradeoff is that you can use virtually anything as counters, as long as each individual counter is represented by an individual object.

Should I try to get into Yugioh? I just like the art on the cards mostly, but when I read about the gameplay all I see is that its just you lose before you can even start your turn so I'm not sure.
>>97354074No
>>97354074I'm not going to tell you whether or not you should or shouldn't. I'm just gonna tell you what you *should* do if you *do* decide to try getting into it.>Find someone to teach you how to play the gameAnd I don't mean the basic summoning mechanics because that's just shit you can learn in under an hour. I mean someone that is willing to teach you how to read PSCT (the formatting of the card text, and yes there ARE keywords in this game), how Priority(IMPORTANT) and Timing(Learn Priority first) works, and how some of the more nitty-gritty stuff like the Damage Step works.>Watch real games playing outTHIS IS A BIG ONE THAT NEW PLAYERS DON'T DO. They will try to get into the game by throwing themselves at the damn wolves, while they're still learning, instead of seeing how it actually plays out beforehand. Master Duel (their official digital client) is really good for this since the animations give you time to parse things as they're happening, but YCS tournament feature matches (don't look up YCS Bologna 2025) also work.>Consider GenesysIt's a throttled version of Advanced format where instead of a banlist, certain cards are assigned point values that make it so you can't just shove anything into any deck. It helps wrangle the game a lot, but wrangling it and stupifying it are two very different things. Pendulum and Link Monsters are also absent in the format, but what helps new players more than anything is the point system since it means that you can't shove 5+ engines and generic goodstuff into a single deck like you can with Advanced.

>>97354367I'm not wanking off to the rape and incest, just admiring it thematically as an underrepresented yet universal aspect of tragic stories.Ancient histories, pseudohistories, religious texts and folk stories were not bound by the constraints of a pg13 rating.Shit, Ovid literally credits Orpheus with inventing pederasty.Which grossed me out, because I only like to "artistically admire" rape and incest between fully developed tragic degenerates. But well, like I said, Ovid is a satirist, so reading his characterizations as conventional is a questionable proposition.Shit, Zeus alone is a one man bastard factory, not all willing.Odin also rapes the Jotunn Rindr, using sorcery and begets the god Valli upon her.TIn the most ancient Gaelic rite of kingship, the sacral king rapes the sacred mare, representing the Ouranic male mastering the Cthonic feminine, then the animal is killed and butchered, and the king climbs into the cauldron when the meat is cooked, and portions out the meat to his retainers, and the broth to his subjects. This is basically an iteration on a Scythian horse sacrifice rite, which is also related to Vedic horse sacrifice; the Gaels themselves claimed to come from Scythia, the claim is called a pseudohistory by some, but this rite may represent a profoundly relict mode of worship, preserved across great spans of time and distance.Comment too long. Any good RPGs for doorkicking combat? Something kinda slick but hyper lethal, letting the PCs take down most mooks pretty quickly but always having the chance to lose it all with poor tactics. I've been running RED and it feels a bit pillow fisted but my group is afraid of RPGs from before the turn of the millennium
>>97349473Sure, but that's the nature of supplements for any game. Zozer is hardly the worst offender. Hell there's a lot of TSR supplements that require you to own other supplements to be able to use them with the core books.I stand by my original statement that TRAVELLER does a good job with doorkicker, high risk combat. I only pointed out Modern War because it provides the kind of thing that most people think of when we discuss this kind of combat.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started.
