it's a light game. not as elegant as knizias, but only a bit harder to teach.
you go fast by matching a bunch of symbols together from up to three cards from your hand, plus one from a shared crowd card. there are a number of suits with abilities like cornering, healing, and attacking. whenever you take an action in a suit you advance its skill marker. depending on the crowd's whims you have opportunities to advance the skill marker double. once the skill markers start landing in the bonus zones, your speed when you take those moves gets much much stronger. it turns a game of simple hand optimization into constant tough value judgements of when to prioritize upgrades over your current position.
there's not a ton of player interaction, but the mind games around when to shield from attacks and using whips to maximum effect based on position do enough for me
very timeless vibe and plenty thematic for my tastes

Is 7th continent actually a good game or overhyped bullshit?
And are there any good exploration games at all?
>>
>>97834401
7th Continent is massively overrated for sure, since it's a product of a time when these types of games didn't exist. 7th Citadel is a significant step forward on the core design, and the best exploration game I've played yet.

A thread for discussing the Star Wars franchise and its various media and tabletop games.

As they say, great minds think alike. It just makes sense that if you're doing Raxus, you may as well say something about the Perlemian Trade Route.
I personally decided to go with this sector as it fit my main theme of glamor and contradiction - Secundus is a beautiful, prestigious, noble planet, while Prime is a horrid junk heap that is very useful to the economy.

>>97831497
Yes, you are missing a couple of things. Din always takes the spear and the flamer. Meaning that his melee dice pool is either 2 red 3 black, or 2 red 1 black + however many minis the enemy has. The key here is that Din has tactical and his independent- the 2+ aims he always has mean that he usually hits all his dice AND the spear gives him the duellist keyword. That means that he can easily make his melee attacks have pierce 2(!) which is rare for bounty hunters. His 1 pip and 2 pip also also great for boosting his damage output and mobility. Boba's cards are weird in that most of them just give you a one time weapon.
>>97833745
You'd be surprised, Anon. I also play x-wing, and I know several grown ass men who adore the s*quels (with the exception of episode 9, not even they like that one)
>>
>>97833849
> with the exception of episode 9, not even they like that one

Pretty much agree (though episode 8 was, I’d argue, slightly more trash than 9)

But I did kinda like Exegol (the location anyway) and the look of Sith Eternal stormtroopers.

And the idea that bigger chunks of the DS2 might be found on other, less inhabited, moons of Endor wasn’t a horrible idea (the dagger thing was stupid) or the wayfinder stones feels like something force users of the past might concoct to keep their sacred sites secret.

… basically there’s bits and pieces from the sequel trilogy that I’d like to cannibalize for my own Star Wars adventures, so long as I can completely disconnect them from the god-awful story and shittier elements.

Literal retard take. Clonemasters using forbidden technology and kicking off a series of destructive wars is kino. Lucas's faggy "lol palpatine was the puppet master of both sides the whole time" is something a 12 year old would write and think was super edgy and cool. You're not a 12-year old are you anon? You have to be at least 13 to post here.
>>
Test
>>
>>97834064
Even Lucas's ideas for the Clone Wars seem to have changed somewhere between the OT and prequels. In an earlier script of ESB, Lando was supposed to be a clone, and he mentions how there's not many clones around after the Clone Wars and implies that clones have a bad reputation because of the war, which would suggest that the original idea was that the war was against clones (which would also fit with it being called the Clone Wars: the PT conflict would make more sense to be called the Separatist War or the Droid Wars, since that's what the Republic was actually fighting against).

Pigheaded Edition

>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

Not enough armor-piercing, total positive modifier death. I also don't fuck with Grail's durability mechanic. I think the game should just include templates instead of the weird blast/flamethrower rules, but that's less a critique and more of a personal opinion. They should maybe rework sultanate entirely too, they play like a lesser version of heretic legion.
>>
>>97828867
Played a game today, he failed it four turns in a row. I still won the game but man it felt like shit. I wish more actions were like the Sniper Priest's aim where they get bonus dice. I feel like it should be maybe +1 dice. +2 feels like a "why is this risky I will never fail" but +1 is "you probably should but there's still a chance it won't work."
>>
>>97834028
If your playing Sultanate like HL, you're doing it wrong. Heretics are about having a moderate number of well-equipped units who thrive on status effect and elemental negation. IS are about an asymmetric force of specialists with the cannon or the bull as an anchor for war band composition.

I think its silly that its official tokens only instead of stricter guidelines for tokens.

But a lot of tokens are very unclear about the stat lines of the token, things like level and play cost are very often not written on a lot of fan tokens which makes it very annoying (be it they have them or directly are lacking them)
if they put out a bunch more tokens and make them far more accessible then idc really, but as it stands its pretty shitty. and I say that despite having more than enough official tokens for all my decks and having gotten the nice foiled art ones for all the ones that have them that I play (diaboro, medusa, puppets, sakuya) and that this has 0 impact on me as I didn't buy fan tokens anyway.

This is a bit of an asspull on my part, but I think that might just be projection. The Garou look at the frenzy of a vampire and see Rage, so they ignorantly believe it comes from the same place. Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help:

anyway Human herding will likely be very niche since raiding for humans or demanding tribute from a local settlement or even just ruling a town with an iron fist would be easier. it might be a thing in the underdark or otherwise very desolate lands.

NTA. I have multiple acquaintances with actual diagnosed autism that I play boardgames with. Admittedly I've never played D&D with them, but I would: They're considerate, low-drama people who are genuinely passionate about games and are pretty easy to get along with. Occasionally you might need to tell them some things explicitly when they don't get non-verbal communication, which I generally have little difficulty with. That one thing is not always ideal, but there's MUCH worse out there.

Of course not all people with autism are like that, particularly the highly politicised ones, but it sounds like the Anon you replied to has a similar experience to mine.

Most people tend to forget that chaos armor is basically a mutaded armor. Warriors in Chaos Wastes mutate and their shit mutates with them, be it their armor or their horse. I mean, sure - some buy armor that already looks like a chaos armor, but is basically heavy armor. True chaos armor is armor that was twisted by energies of the warp. So - give enough time to a bretonnian knight on Chaos Wastes and he WILL look like a chaos warrior, even if he didn't buy anything from Karak Dum or chaos dwarfs (or just take from a fallen enemy).

Given that anime and anime inspired cartoon styles have become pretty much the norm or at least incredibly common in most other forms of indie entertainment (TTRPGs, videogames, comics, animation, even miniature wargames). How comes it remains a relatively rare style to find in board games, an industry that operates almost entirely in the form of independent creators and small studios? How comes it still carries associations of being an art-style of games "for kids"?

It was so strange when pic related came out seeing people "warning" others that even tho "it looks like a game for kids, it's actually quite difficult and heavy".

To be fair UNO and Monopoly are not what I'd call "hobbyist games". They're incredibly mainstream popular products that essentially exist in their own bubble and respond to completely different markets and pressures, Hasbro would never consider publishing something like Sweet Lands because it caters to a completely different demographic than their games.

Easily re-skinnable hobbyist games would be things like, idk, Love Letter I guess, tho that's a pretty simple game and it has technically gotten its fair share of licensed re-skins, none based on anime AFAIK.
>>
>>97826974
>Given that anime and anime inspired cartoon styles have become pretty much the norm or at least incredibly common in most other forms of indie entertainment
I think one contributing factor to why this is so is because anime is just entertaining so naturally people want a slice of the anime pie to try and mimic it's aesthetics to get sales and support.

But maybe one reason it isn't very common in board games is due to not wanting to be go with what is more popular and try to stand out as anime might be too mainstream now?
Just guessing.

Lmao last time you did this you forgot to clip out every time it said something like "the decade is the 1970s" and you for laughed out of the thread. So now you're doing it again with clipped OPs, no link, no screenshot, no anything.

And even if it were true, which it isn't, it doesn't prove it was welcome, it only proves people couldn't be bothered writing it was.

And it's 2019. Seven years ago. The time to complain about it was then, but you weren't around. You don't get to barge in many years later and whine like a bitch that you don't like how things are. Don't like it? Make your own thread.

Should we tell him?

You know perfectly well that fishfag is against /2eg/ and /todd/ existing, he's been saying this for weeks, and that he's been trolling, false flagging, and trying to rewrite /tg/ history for months in an attempt to raise a sperg army to throw at /osrg/.

So unless you're fishfag himself, you fully deserve him. A distinction without a difference, really.

>Basically a meta-setting that was literally intended to tie all the universes together. Therefore, not particularly unique in its own right, but neat concept.
I like it as space fantasy. Not sci-fantasy, just straight fantasy in space, I don't see that enough

That's true, I also enjoy the concept, it's very unique and very true to D&D's Sword and Sorcery roots; science fantasy is cool and I think proper science fantasy is kind of underrated still, but literal, outright "fantasy in space" is even less represented.

I've stopped playing D&D and am now a GURPSfag, but I have played some Forgotten Realms and Spelljammer in GURPS using GURPS Dungeon Fantasy (*not* Dungeon Fantasy RPG). Very fun stuff. Much more fun than in D&D to be honest.
In any case, Mystara, Forgotten Realms, Spelljammer, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Eberron, Planescape, Al-Qadim and Ravenloft are all varying degrees of kino in their own way. A good and passionate GM can run excellent games in any of them.
The rest are trash.

Dark Sun seems cool.
>>97805210
play DDO
>>

I would like to try out Eberron.
>creator is a creep though
Please spoonfeed me on what makes him a creep.
Nerds tend to be creepy in general but what really makes him creepy?
