By playing C4 after your opponent played D5 to your D4 is Queens Gambit. Accepted or declined is choice of black. Accepted is considered weaker since middle ages, literally, and this was confirmed by supercomputers, but top players still need to be prepared for it, since there are some traps later in the lines. QGD on other hand offers a million of fighting positions both for black and white. That's why it's so popular for both sides. Black can go for reti, indian, modern, queen's pawn, benoni... if he wishes to avoid Queen's Gambit, but every one of those is much narrower in opportunities and scope (or they transpose into a known line of Queen's Gambit), so a quality white player will be able to remember the lines and lead the match into, to him, known positions, offering him advantage.

The only engine builder I would buy again is Dominion. I feel like a lot of modern board games are Frankengames. So personally I would be more inclined to rank a game higher if it did one thing well instead of three things poorly. Five Tribes comes to mind immediately. I absolutely despise the bidding mechanic in that game. The game without bidding is one of my favorite game designs.

I'm checking the new Barrage Executives and the forums are full of comments like

with videogames it really depends for me. recently i more or less stopped playing video games, but over the years as far as shooters go for example stuff like call of duty was just too stressy for me. squad i really enjoyed because it's much more about communication and supporting your team, there are a lot of times where there isn't much happening and then all of a sudden it shifts and it's just complete insanity. still less stressy then the constantly running, shooting and respawning of other games. i really enjoyed Cairn recently and cyberpunk and inscryption. magnum opus from zachtronics i also played a while ago. it's also really nice. portal 2 is also still one of my absolute favourite games, i still dont know how they managed to make portal 1 but better in every aspect.

me and my roommate don't have many board games, but as mentioned above compile works really well for us. duel for middle earth is also pretty fun, but almost too much luck based. arcs and root we enjoyed also very much, but for root we want to replace the vagabond and marquis the cat soon. and then i also have a list of games that i want to get in the future like magical athlete, dune imperium uprising, heat, pandemic legacy, eternal decks, arkham horror. pretty basic list, i guess, we are still trying to figure out what we like and what works for us. we also tried out brass twice but that we did not enjoy, so i guess eurogames are something i will skip for the foreseeable future

I'll agree DFT was conceived that way but I wouldn't put it in the same tier as OTJ. Despite the ridiculous premise it does do a fair bit of worldbuilding for Avishkar/Kaladesh and Amonkhet, and irons out some of the new interplanar politics that weren't really touched on much in the sets prior. It's not like OTJ which was completely plot-driven and dropped the characters wearing cosplay in an empty sandbox.

Fire teams can be deployed after the first turn anywhere, as long as they are 8" inches away from an enemy unit.

"Seraphim" fighter class airplane 200 ducats, may purchase cases of rounds for 50 ducats or up to two bombs for 100 ducats each.

In order to use the plane a radio operator needs to be in line of sight of an enemy and use the "Call for Close Support" risky action. If the operator is dead the plane will return to base.

If you're doing it in combat time, and you're keeping them in combat - which you are unless they beat you on Withdraw - they're ticking down in rounds. It's also probably really funny to stamp around on the ground after burying them, making mini-earthquakes that crumble any tunnels they're attempting to make to burrow out. Mechanically it'd be something like turning the extended action feat of strength rolls into opposed actions, but thematically it's dancing on your enemies graves with steps like earthquakes.

NTAYRT but I really like Sutra. It does some weird stuff like the characters insistence that The King in Yellow that we see in Repairer and such is only a "False Prophet" or the implication that the Sutra is the origin of The King in Yellow but I think that can all be handwaved as that being the *characters* and not necessarily *the objective truth*.

I also think The Fixer could have used some filler material, but that may be me not really liking sandboxes and wanting some information.

Also I usually don't like RPG Pregens but I think it has a solid set.

Naw, more so game mechanic stuff. I like how CoC 7e made attributes into percentiles like skills, as well as the Pushed Rolls, Bonus/Penalty Die and the different difficulty levels for rolling.

because in the older editions they had models, so ravening hordes, which is meant to keep existing armies playable, kept the profile
meanwhile in the serious reinvention of warhammer that was 6e, goblins didn't get an update to the spider riders and the older models weren't included, so the unit profile was not included in the armybook either
then they got updated models in 7th and were reintroduced in the rules as well in 7th

Ravening hordes was a stopgap designed to keep every army/collection playable. The 6e books were significant reinventions of many factions and warhammer in general so armies lost/gained shit all over.

Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency.

I don't. I've lost count of how many times I've had to say no to players who think combat is between their character and a sack of potatoes. It’s always the same: the enemy attacks and they go, 'Okay, I see his move and I do some HEMA crap to counter-attack,' while flailing around with nonsensical gestures. The only thing I can tolerate is an attempt to disarm, following the same principle as striking the head (I run 3LBB) but with even lower odds: a 5% chance to hit the hand, which must be unarmored anyway. Or, switching from melee weapons to brawling. Either way, these are rare situations that deserve very little attention and usually have to be handled by winging it.

Skill issue. If they aren't effectively doing anything different, tell them. They have to have accurate game world information. If you're just making shit up so they keep making noise you're actually lying to them and they'll keep doing the pointless shit. This is a bad approach and why

is fundamentally flawed.
Encourage notable difference, if there isn't a notable difference tell them. They don't have to have rich descriptions every attack roll, once per combat or if their changing tactics is fine.
