>>97891611>meta right nowBy playing C4 after your opponent played D5 to your D4 is Queens Gambit. Accepted or declined is choice of black. Accepted is considered weaker since middle ages, literally, and this was confirmed by supercomputers, but top players still need to be prepared for it, since there are some traps later in the lines. QGD on other hand offers a million of fighting positions both for black and white. That's why it's so popular for both sides. Black can go for reti, indian, modern, queen's pawn, benoni... if he wishes to avoid Queen's Gambit, but every one of those is much narrower in opportunities and scope (or they transpose into a known line of Queen's Gambit), so a quality white player will be able to remember the lines and lead the match into, to him, known positions, offering him advantage.
White completely misses my idea

>>97894765The only engine builder I would buy again is Dominion. I feel like a lot of modern board games are Frankengames. So personally I would be more inclined to rank a game higher if it did one thing well instead of three things poorly. Five Tribes comes to mind immediately. I absolutely despise the bidding mechanic in that game. The game without bidding is one of my favorite game designs.
Kickstarterfags truly shock me.I'm checking the new Barrage Executives and the forums are full of comments like>I went all in on previous Barrage campaigns and after 2 years they still haven't given me the game, nor any sort of communication or refund, they are thieves (I'm still paying for this campaign too)They get scammed time and time again and get outraged yet still decide to continue to support the same company that scammed them twice. At least some posters on the forum won't be backing but would do so if the Executives' art wasn't based on influencers, which is reasonable enough but it's incredible that that's the tipping point for them.
>>97893956will check out, thanks!me and my roommate are really enjoying compile right now and are getting the expansion tomorrow. it has the fun of trying to figure out how to make the best of your cards without being too overly complicated and it's nice discovering synergies and moving things around for you and your opponent. >>97894503with videogames it really depends for me. recently i more or less stopped playing video games, but over the years as far as shooters go for example stuff like call of duty was just too stressy for me. squad i really enjoyed because it's much more about communication and supporting your team, there are a lot of times where there isn't much happening and then all of a sudden it shifts and it's just complete insanity. still less stressy then the constantly running, shooting and respawning of other games. i really enjoyed Cairn recently and cyberpunk and inscryption. magnum opus from zachtronics i also played a while ago. it's also really nice. portal 2 is also still one of my absolute favourite games, i still dont know how they managed to make portal 1 but better in every aspect. me and my roommate don't have many board games, but as mentioned above compile works really well for us. duel for middle earth is also pretty fun, but almost too much luck based. arcs and root we enjoyed also very much, but for root we want to replace the vagabond and marquis the cat soon. and then i also have a list of games that i want to get in the future like magical athlete, dune imperium uprising, heat, pandemic legacy, eternal decks, arkham horror. pretty basic list, i guess, we are still trying to figure out what we like and what works for us. we also tried out brass twice but that we did not enjoy, so i guess eurogames are something i will skip for the foreseeable future
>>97895110I've had a few hearty keks checking out the mythic game ks comment sections. Something along the lines of "this is my fifth mythic kickstarter that doesn't get fulfilled in 5 years, I won't back anything by mythic again"Truly prisoners in a hell of their own making

>>97883469>progressive scoringThis is one of the biggest cancers in modern wargaming, I'm trying to fight a battle not play fucking sportsball. You either achieve the objective by the end or you don't. No general ever "scored" his troops on how long they stood on the hill or bridge he wanted captured, all that matters was if you were still standing on it when the battle was over.
>>97893926nta but one of the other problems with 3.0 was the huge loss of options and customization, and the overall writing of the ruleset seem to have some odd choices, like the challenge system, now not only legions, in general, lost some special rules but they were replaced with challenge stuff same with most special characters (half the special rules from primarch and named character are challenge related)
>>97895116Challenges are a good mechanic in theory imo, the writers of 3.0 just got completely lost in the fucking sauce and overcomplicated the shit out of it for very little real gain.

>>97894089>Hat sets like Thunder Junction, Markov, Aetherdrift, etc feels more like the writers don't want to actually bother with a consistent plot or world and just want to do these "fun" conceptsI'll agree DFT was conceived that way but I wouldn't put it in the same tier as OTJ. Despite the ridiculous premise it does do a fair bit of worldbuilding for Avishkar/Kaladesh and Amonkhet, and irons out some of the new interplanar politics that weren't really touched on much in the sets prior. It's not like OTJ which was completely plot-driven and dropped the characters wearing cosplay in an empty sandbox.
>>97891560Lots of custom cards are inspired by other IPs. /ccg/ can only live on its own.
>>97894735DFT was bad though. Whatever idiot came up with death races for Magic needs a pay cut. I also hate that we revisited Amonkhet but most of the cards were tainted with that shitty Start Your Engines! mechanic which we will literally never see again.I've said it once and I'll say it again, I do not think Magic benefits from every set having a new keyword. >>97894610True, but without an effect, even if slight, I dont find that players tend to describe or are inclined to think about there attack much. +/-2 is minor in the grand scheme of things, but I find its just enough crunch to get people invested. But yah, on the con it can devolve into lawyering.>>97894715>too abstract idk, just describing your general approach seems appropriate over a period of time, are you being agressive, cagy, primarily trying to occupy them rather than dealing excessive damage etc. Not speicficly "Im attacking their head/hand/foot" kind of thing.
>>97894469>DO you guys allow combat fudging?I don't. I've lost count of how many times I've had to say no to players who think combat is between their character and a sack of potatoes. It’s always the same: the enemy attacks and they go, 'Okay, I see his move and I do some HEMA crap to counter-attack,' while flailing around with nonsensical gestures. The only thing I can tolerate is an attempt to disarm, following the same principle as striking the head (I run 3LBB) but with even lower odds: a 5% chance to hit the hand, which must be unarmored anyway. Or, switching from melee weapons to brawling. Either way, these are rare situations that deserve very little attention and usually have to be handled by winging it.
>>97894469Looks like the best option is always obvious with those. So there's no tactical depth to your hours rules. Meaning you're slowing the game down for no benefit, so I wouldn't use those rules.>>97894788>without an effect, even if slight, I dont find that players tend to describeExcellent. Extra reason not to use those rules, then. Why would you encourage players to faggot your game up that way?>are you being agressive, cagy, primarily trying to occupy them rather than dealing excessive damage etcEw. Gay.
>>97894995>>97895011Sorry for the double post. I got an error, so I reposted, and it looks like both went through. Now it won't let me delete either one of them. Annoying.
>>97894788>True, but without an effect, even if slight, I dont find that players tend to describe or are inclined to think about there attack much. Skill issue. If they aren't effectively doing anything different, tell them. They have to have accurate game world information. If you're just making shit up so they keep making noise you're actually lying to them and they'll keep doing the pointless shit. This is a bad approach and why >fudging is fundamentally flawed. Encourage notable difference, if there isn't a notable difference tell them. They don't have to have rich descriptions every attack roll, once per combat or if their changing tactics is fine.

>>97894886Paper chads arent beta testers given that wotc has to eat the shame of banning and ruining formatsMeanwhile arena wimps are beta testers for wotc to realize "hey we should've made this card like this instead" and they expect you to THANK them for 'fixing' shit LMAO
