No one wants competitive games to be bogged down by 2 hour arguments by autists over if a piece of rubble or vine blocks LOS because some aphantasic niggers simply MUST have proper representation of visuals. It's also impossible to balance battlefields when you have muh realism retards placing nonstandard shapes because "muh ruined structures" everywhere. The hobby lives or dies by how much it can be taken seriously and if you don't have structure and rules you'll never be able to market it to the real consumers: the competitive players.

Rely heavily on Dragonborn, throw in Pixie flight, maybe add the Shifter's natural weapons, and balance it out with starting ability and equipment restrictions (who makes armor for dragons?) and that you're starting as a juvenile dragon. Shouldn't be too difficult. Homebrew should be made to solve problems or accomodate players. Knowing why a player wants to play a dragon is helpful to making a dragon race for the player to enjoy. There's not much 4e homebrew regardless.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Pendragon Thread! What's the deal with 6E?
>>97833107Sorry, had to step away for a moment.Alright, last thing to comment on - "Your Pendragon Will Vary" is a mantra that's been around since I think all the way back in 1st edition in the 80s. Basically Stafford knew players would end up veering stories off in 30 different directions all the time and what style game players would want from the game would vary from group to group. One group might want knights in shining armor on heavy chargers fulfilling quests from faerie kings and queens, another group would want mudcore "chainmail is the only proper armor and kite shields the only proper shield, and no magic or actual miracles" realism. So while the game is, canonically, more in line with, say, the movie Excalibur or even Disney's "The Sword in the Stone" movie (based on a book if I remember rightly), it does give guidelines on how to adapt the game to fit whatever the group overall wants from it.A famous story that was confirmed by Stafford was a female friend of his being asked to play the game with him back in the 90s and she wasn't super interested in it, preferring to play other systems at the time, but finally told him "if I can play a jewish lesbian knight then I'll play" thinking he would scoff and stop asking but he instead said he would have everything ready for her on game day on how to incorporate that sort of knight into the game. Why? Because the Arthurian Legend is one that constantly changes and adapts to fit the times people live in and the stories they want to tell. Hell, the idea of a female knight in an Arthurian-style setting even predated that 90s conversation by centuries, going all the way back to the 1200s with "Le Roman de Silence" about a girl raised as boy who even gets to be a knight and who has to struggle with her identity and the various social norms of her day, settling on using a masculine name, clothing, and presentation through like 98% of the story.

>>97833087>>97833107>>97833222Or here, thanks.
Repeat after me: MAKE. YOUR. POTIONS. IN. PILL. FORME!Pills are ancient, they predate Egypt! We made pills better in medieval Europe by putting them inside purified nontoxic silver to boost power, we don't do that anymore because it's too expensive.Whole reason why we take pills and don't drink medicine is because any medicine is just 0.1% active ingredients, putting it inside a pill is more efficient, making it a drink is wasteful.Realistically in DND, if potions were real, they'd kill adventurers, all over the Adventures Guild you'd see newspapers like:>SSS-rank barbarian killed in the Dungeon because drinking healpot takes too long!>LVL 99 thief killed in the Dungeon because he choked on manapot... it went down the wrong hole!>The Hero killed in the Dungeon because he tripped down stairs and broke all pots!Potions? Not even once! Pills are the right way.
>>97835768Seems interesting. I could see it being a more expensive alternative (with the purified silver), but have the advantage of making it quicker to use than a potion. But in any instance where you have time to sit down and bandage your wounds, a potion is cheaper and just as effective. Works well as a way to add more depth to alchemy as a system, where there's now an extra balancing act between utility and cost.
>>97836335>>97837011Maybe a reduced or delayed effect in exchange for ease of use, like requiring a faster action type rather than a full one? It also takes up much less space and you don't have glass bottles with liquid sloshing around.
>>97836755Doesn't apply to healing
>>97837095Could have it so any effect triggers at the start of the character's next turn, so that even if it doesn't require a full action to consume, there is still some planning involved. Weighing less is also a potential aspect, although potions aren't exactly the heaviest thing anyway.

For the Plague marines toxic weapons do I get the extra 1 damage immediately after one attack applied in that sequence or do I have to fight or shoot again for it to enable?
>>97837206Shooting damage is all dealt at once so it couldn't apply to a single attack regardlessBut as for melee, the weapons profile is 'locked in' when you select it for that fight action. So you'd need to fight again (or with a different operative) for toxic to kick in

I'll start>D&D 5E is a heroic fantasy game (I didn't say good), trying to do anything else should have you using a different system.
Ironic.
>>97836654Depends entirely on system.Savage can go indefinitely forward.Wushu can go indefinitely forward.OVA was deliberately designed to keep going, since it had to emulate filler-heavy shounen anime. But stuff like Broken Compass is made for 4-6 scenarios TOP and then you kinda have to wrap it up, but that's designed to be that way.Ten Candles is exclusively made for one-shots, but that doesn't mean it sucks because of that - it means you are a moron if you aren't using it for one-shots.The only rules light game that comes to mind and actually is falling apart due to poor design is Genesys, since it has a rather wonky character progression
>>97835868Prep is simple. I populate a region with few sentences. For example:>Revax-19: mining town, refines Rhydoium ship fuel. Incredibly toxic. Miners are slowly dying of exposure. Corpo but closely associated with the Empire.>Mining office: Ketra Moree (Zabrak, sharp features, sharp wit, laura linney from Ozark) wants to leave her post by any means necessary>Swoop bikers- Brandish blasters even though it's outlawed. Tolerated by the Empire because they keep mining revolts down (see it as a threat to their power/ability to sling spice). Run by a Trandoshan named Vim [missing eye, disruptor pistol, loud [Tommy, Goodfellas]>Refinery: Twisting pipes. Ughnaught workers. One is spying for the nearby imp garrison for promise of early retirement. Rodian named Jint Voss running a smuggling operation on the side [sly but unsubtle. The imps are aware but tolerate him because of his efficiency]>Doctor Bel Van [Bith, stuttering, works for the same company as PC #1's family]- gathering blood samples for nearby imperial base. Easy to detect his effort to obtain bloodwork. Unaware of why the Imps are collecting blood work (They are studying Rhydonium effect on system as possible stimulant).>The miners are about to riot.. Recently "retired" miner is finding his company scrip doesn't convert cleanly into credits off world. It doesn't take long. Just a thing that happens, a person attached (with their own hopes, dreams, etc), and some attachment to the are a they are in. I improve the rest. Descriptions, dialogue, etc.
>>97836232Sure, but I'm replying to the context generated from this comment: >>97833615. I think you might interpret "thinking on your feet and reacting to player's choices" as "improvising everything".So, if I didn't interpret you correctly, I apologize. It sounds like there are others here, though, that are arguing for a "pure improv" GM style which I do think inevitably results in sub-par experiences.>>97836586When it comes to populating the world, I agree with you and share the "living world" approach to worldbuilding. The world build in such a way that it goes on whether or not games play in it are- by far- the most robust and satisfying. That being said, I don't sit at the table 4 hours a week to worldbuild. I do so to experience, adjudicate, and respond as the world in question to the antics of my friend's characters. And the world absolutely changes based upon what they do. I don't know that completely agree that "the world doesn't exist for the characters" because, in a sense, some of my worldbuilding explicitly *does*. I am trying to play roleplaying games after all and the way in which my character's history and story affects what happens from sessions to sessions creates some pretty neat stories and memories.

>Utterly countless space marine/imperial guard STL files to the point of overflow >Look around for anything xeno like eldar corsairs or tau>like 10 Is this fanbase too imperial sided? Even 3d printing is marine bloated
I blame the fact that most of the kitbashes, art and other shows of variation are imperial sided in the base material. You had alternate armor for marines and handfuls of IG regiments decades ago, but xeno stuff has almost always been shown as stock. The main eldar variation (after their rework from the chainmail and metal hair of RT), was a single corsair kill team. Tau never got even that.
>>97836157I think you haven't been looking hard enough then anon.Or GW's lawyers move quicker on xenos/Eldar when it comes to throwing out DMCAs or whatever copyright mechanism there is to take them down than Imperial Guard stuff. But space marines by sheer volume make them appear more prevalent but GW will get them eventually as much as I wish that wasn't the case.
Marines sell well for a reason (the space knight is clearly a popular look) and between that and the Guard you can cover an awful lot of SF aesthetics.Eldar and Tau especially have a more specific look to them, though Tau obviously slot into a cleaner, more streamlined universe style. I wouldn't be surprised to find a lot of not-Nids out there either, bugs are bugs.I find there are a few slaaneshi daemons, but frankly that's usually a toss up as to whether the designer is aiming at warhammer or just wants monstergirls and calling them 'lust demons' (nudge nudge, wink wink) gets a few more hits. They generally have the flaw of "because I can do delicate fiddly detail, I MUST"; standing on delicate deer hooves is nice art, but not so great when you're trying to glue a 28/30mm model to a base.
There's also like 20+ reasonably popular space marine chapters that people want custom bits for but will never get official support for an upgrade sprue like the 1st founding chapters get. So that's eating up a lot of space but it's the kind of space that I understand has a market. People want their space shark upgrades and what have you so they look as cool as the guy running space wolves or blood angels. What do the Xenos factions have that's really compatible? Wacky Ork themes? We've had sites for that for ages.
