That was the first thing I asked him, he said he was there to play boardgames and was just sorting his cards in the meantime. He also didn't pick out a game himself, so I guess he just wanted people to go up to him and guess which game he was in the mood for. He's a cranky old guy anyway so I don't really like playing with him.

/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1880s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, explore & fight each other for victory and profit.

3 versions of the rules exist, 2 of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :

Another thing, checking multiple books, when reading about italians, they appear as [italian], [duosicilian] and [vulcanist]. For consistency's sake, which one should we use?

Dousicilian, I'd say.

Also, now that I think of it, if it is three independent unit that all have the "leader" keyword, could I rally with each one of them and just ignore lose 3 dread each turn?

I feel this unit is too exploitable as it is to keep rules as written, especially within the spanish book.

>I feel this unit is too exploitable as it is to keep rules as written, especially within the spanish book.
I see what you mean with wordings, but I don't think these problems are anything a rule or two couldn't fix. It's not a mechanically complex unit outside of choosing which special rule you want on deployment.
>Joke Rule Name That I Haven't Thought of Yet:
This unit only counts as having been killed once all three inquisitors are dead. Only one inquisitor per turn may rally.

Just use the 100 card boxes. A lot of 100 card boxes are actually too small for 100 cards, at least for my double sleeved cards. The only use for 100 card boxes for me has actually been for my 60 card decks with token and sideboard.

>variant human
I'll admit if there is one thing I am happy to be rid of after switching to Advanced 5e, it's dealing with Variant Human. Now make no mistake the options for human are actually really good in A5E, but when feats are "optional" it ends up feeling really odd for only one race to get them.

In A5E humans outright get an extra skill proficiency of their choice, plus only need half the time to train in new armor/weapons/tools with downtime. They also get to add a 1d4 (Expertise Die) to any check 1/short rest.

The actual options are varied. One lets you go a number of days equal to your CON mod without suffering fatigue (Exhaustion) from no food/water but you need twice as much for the same number of days after. Another enhances Dash 1/SR, making you not provoke attacks and getting an expertise die to Acrobatics checks against hazards and to DEX saves plus letting you ignore one level of fatigue per long rest and then an expertise die on saves to resist fatigue gain during forced marching. Finally perhaps the strongest one. Reroll failed concentration saves up to your INT mod per long rest, and also choose two tools you're proficient with or one skill from a specific list (the non-physical ones) you then always have a minimum of 10 for your rolls with those tools/that skill.

Also FUCK the captchas the other day, holy shit.

Everyone's issues with RPGs are solved when you do sandbox play. You don't need to prepare too much, you don't need to force players along a track to a desired outcome, players will want to explore the dungeons you've prepared, it's not possible to avoid content for very long when they track resources, everybody wins. It's easier to not railroad players.

> Then game night comes and I've reconsidered what I want to do and you still can't provide it
Then that’s on you for not communicating that before game night and demanding the GM do something about it. Consider how little a player is asked to bring, aka themselves, a character sheet, and a willingness to play. If they still can’t pull their thumb out of their ass after spending a week sucking on it, the problem is on the player for being an indecisive twit and not the GM.
>>
>>97895938
>>97895938
>Then game night comes and I've reconsidered what I want to do
Not my fault that you're an indecisive faggot, you had an entire week to declare your intentions and failed, sounds like a you problem.
> you already know a lot of outcomes,
You know what would happen if the players don't intervine. You do not know what happens when the players DO intervine.
Preparing gives you some guidelines on how the scenery will react even in the most deranged of situations.
You are very obsesses with a GM writing "solutions" and that's your main fault: a DM doesn't write solutions it writes problems. and the players see what they can (or can't) do about it.
And if you have an intended solution and the players bypass it, that's also part of the story, a part you'll never get to enjoy if you just randomize and improvise everything.
>>
>>97895996
You could never account for last minute changes on your end with your style of DMing.
>>
>>97896050
I'll be curious, how do you think game night plays out exactly? Because I GM regularly and never had an issue with asking a player "cool, what would you be interesting on doing next session?"
>>
>>97896050
At this point, the problem is clearly not the GM if the player is an indecisive retard.

Why is "Don't overprepare" such common advise given to DMs? sometimes it seems like people are allergic to putting effort into building adventures. Railroading typically happens when a DM is underprepared for their sessions.

i did exactly this in my head every night before going to sleep, from age 10 to about age 30.

i'm not going to beat my 11-year-old self up for not understanding how rivers work. but by age 14-15, the world and characters were internally consistent (and purged of any animu bullshit). in over 20 years' worth of tales, characters died not just 'for story reasons', but because they'd actually hit old age in real time.

git gud, OP.

After running the game thus far, here's what I've come to understand:

>If you use the new difficulty math, always make your encounters high-average, or hard.
>If the new difficulty errata says to lower a monsters health, don't. In fact, give all monsters that are Difficulty 4 +5 total Health, or they will get killed in a single hit often.
>You need more mooks, because PCs who min/max single hit damage will delete a whole enemy before they get a chance to act, but that PC usually can't make two attacks per round. Larger groups of smaller dudes with ranged support is the hard counter.
>You need to do roll over damage into health. This should have been standard in the core rules.
>Combat turn order is way faster than most games, but heavily relies on you as the GM to force a relatively hasty decision on who takes Initiative to keep the flow going (PCs will stall here for whatever reason).
>It doesn't matter how much content you cut, you aren't fitting it into one 4hr session.
>Zones are legit my new favorite way to run the game.
>Once PCs hit Master tier, auto dice rollers will make the session run way faster.
>Every single player has openly admitted to me they prefer this system to 5.5e

>>It doesn't matter how much content you cut, you aren't fitting it into one 4hr session.
Fitting what? A module? An adventure? A "chapter"?
>>
>>97892643
A one shot. Every time I try, I can never get the adventure to end the same night we start, but that's probably more of a personal issue on my part, since the situations I usually task the PCs to solve has some investigation/exploration needed to complete it.
>>
>>97889491
>You need to do roll over damage into health
Care to elaborate on this one? The damage rules seem fairly tight as they are.
>>
>>97895393
If you have 29 damage taken out of 30, getting hit with a 100 damage hit means you take 1 damage, and the 99 remaining means absolutely nothing. Combine this with being unconscious already gives you a 55% chance to rebound with 1 damage healed, a lot of damage goes to waste with absolutely no drawback.

You know what time it is. Post em, bonus points for stories too.

Personally I especially like making wojak/basedjaks out of stuff that happens in My games.

There is no skill or even choice involved in Candyland. You draw a card from a deck and move as the card dictates. The conclusion has been determined by the first draw, and you and the 5-year old you are playing with are going through the motions to reach the conclusion, meaning you can't even throw it to give them a win. A pox on Milton Bradley and his bloodline.

Long time GM spreading his wings into the FFG RPGs for the first time (DH2e). In the process of writing a campaign set in the Calixis sector.

I've got an encounter after an early arc where the party will have to hitch a voidship ride back to their primary base of operations, with said vessel being infested with a genestealer cult. You know the deal. Fun times for everyone involved. Now, at some point I replayed System Shock 2 and became hyperfixated upon the events and themes that play out in the game, and ended up writing an arc based around it. I'm worried it's too thematically similar to "GSC voidship funtimes" and would love any opinions.

>A radical Ordos Xenos Inquisitor's blacksite research vessel retrieves an Abominable Intelligence from a Dark Age of Technology ruins and decides "hell yeah fuck it heresy is good if you can control it"
>Said AI is slowly granted more access as it proves capable. In its hubris and access to xenotech/xenobiology materials, it decides to stretch its proverbial limbs and create life.
>It creates an organism incorporating elements from human and tyranid biology. It evolves, gets a few buddies, and forms a gestalt sentience through a psychic link connecting them.
Essentially The Many from SS2
>Shit goes tits up aboard the vessel as the ship's Machine Spirit becomes tainted by "the Choir" through psychic bleed.
>Containment breach. "the Choir" spreads. The AI barricades and secures itself while sabotaging "the Choir's" attempts to escape the vessel.
>Machine Spirit/servitors produce growth vats, life-support cradles with the on-board manufactorums.
>Escalators escalate escalations
>Party is called in for clean-up & retrieval.

Omitting details for brevity. Do you think it's too similar to GSC themes? It mainly differs in the GSC being vent-lurking sneakfucks and "the Choir" being out in the open. Think body horror ramped to 11. Fleshy kudzu, humanoid aberrations, "the walls are screaming", "hope you bought Jaded two sessions ago"
