>>97171823Aesthetic is fine, rules seem fine, setting could use some fleshing out but it is in it's infancy so that gets a pass in my book. I am disappointed that the TC team decided to rip a page out of GW's book and overprice their small quantity of plastic minis. What I don't like is how a unique kind of obnoxiousness has seeped into the Trench Crusade community. It is like the hipster obnoxiousness that alternative wargamers like me get when we put ourselves higher than Warhammer wargamers because we play games that are more niche than Warhammer, but taken to an almost comical extreme.A post I saw from another thread >>97128918 goes into more detail. I'm glad anons into Trench Crusade made their own general and I hope it stays that way. Those guys have unfortunately been so buck broken by trolls that they see trolls when they aren't there or pointing out a genuine problem with the game.
I want to make my own alternative to the classic VtM setting. What parts should I learn from? What parts should I cut to don't commit the same mistakes they made?
>>97172788How about you read it first.
>I want to do something creative>give me step by step instructions
>>97172788Many may not realize it but classic VtM already offers you the ability to make your own alternative by house ruling stuff. Crazy, right? What's even crazier is that this is the reason why straight getting rid of the meta-plot in v5 was such a crime. Instead of "here's stuff you don't need to use" you have "here's nothing but make up your stuff if you want ig".For a real answer, we should need to know what your goal is, since telling you what to cut would be MY preference not yours.
>>97172788In very broad strokes, VtM is adored for its world building rather than rules at this point. The rules were okay at the time as an alternative to dnd but aren't notably good or suited to the game's stated goals of political vampire drama. So figure out what about the lore was captivating, both in specifics and the abstract, learn how to do that. Look at the rules, and rpg rules in general, to see what not to do and find games that have rules built around specific gameplay goals. Vague but that's where you're at with the limited initial inputs. The abstract for why the lore was so initially captivating was likely a bit of 90s goth genx lighting in a bottle, which you won't be able to imitate but mirroring with the current year horror resurgence might work out. Having distinctive and good art instead of generic rpg art is key as well.
Do you play tabletop games with your kids?
>>97169793I'll never have kids because I am a 32 years old kissless virgin and no woman has ever been interested in me.
Mine is 4, so we're more on just puzzles and play dough than games with rules. We do play Snug as a Bug in a Rug a lot, and will occasionally whip out Connect Four or Sorry. When she's a little older we'll work on playing some card games and maybe some tabletop if she's interested.
>>97169793>your kidsWhere the fuck do you think you are?Come back after I win the lottery.>>97169988There are too many people in the world. Objectively. But it is primarily Asians and Africans.
>>97171899>>ecocide>>hocks paper minislast i checked, we're now on "paper is good and plastic is bad"(i remember as a kid in the 90s, all plastic bags had 'Rainforest Alliance' stickers because plastics = less chopping down trees)
Don't have kids of my own but I've got a brother with 4, wide age range. He plays board and card games with them and I occasionally bring something over. They enjoy all kinds of games, even the dumb ones I buy on a lark. The younder ones have trouble thinking into the future (naturally), but they're still fun to play with. Here are the ones we've had fun with:>Lumberjacks With Rocket Launchers>Ramen Ramen>Tsuro>Colt Super Express>Yukon Salon>Fluxx

When is the Aristea game supposed to come out anyway?
>when the DM says you have to draw a map
I drew this map for a game I was a player in
>>97172000The player maps have never had to be a 1:1 recreation of the descriptions or the DM map, they're just a gameplay tool for orienting themselves in the dungeon and engaging with it tactically.

>>97139776I have made 2.5 female PCs. The first one was a Sister of Battle because playing power armored zealots is fun. The ".5" was a second SoB PC because I did not get to play the first one the way I wanted to and her "sister" was just a do-over.The other female PC is my most recent one. I was given a chance to retire a long running PC in a way that achieved his goals. The new PC is his wife (who he thought he had murdered... it's complicated) and one reason I wanted to play her was it gave me the chance to take over the old characters assets but play a character using them in a very different way and with a very different end game. Pulling his wife out of his narrated past was a perfect way to do this. The husband was a preserver of the status quo, the wife will be a complete shit disturber and I look forward to it.
>>97158453>A player is committing to their characterTo playing as them, not being them. I don't see how you can confuse these things.
>>97158453Wrong. There's no difference between a character I play in a game and a character I write into a book. It's all the same thing, acting.
What system has the best rules for playing as a giant?
>>97166949>asks about giants>posts a pic of a dwarven pixie-slayer
>>97169458Is this a warhammer meme that I don't get?
Darksun with half-giant.
>>97166949Fantasy Craft has giants as a standard PC race option, as well as a couple of other Large race options.
>>97166949Third for GURPS. Especially if you use Combat Writ Large from Pyramid 3/77. Being huge makes you easier to hit, but gives you a discount on Strength, bonuses to grappling, bonuses to melee reach, and (if you're big enough) turns your melee attacks into Area Effect attacks and lets you trample over foes just by moving over them. Also, if you deal enough damage, then you can send foes flying with the Knockback rules. If using Combat Writ Large, then there are also rules for climbing onto a bigger creature, so giant characters can even become their own battlemap.

How to deal with a sorc who constantly uses subtle spell + suggestion to bulldoze through conversations? Just throw more npcs into the mix, since he can't do suggestion on all of them at the same time? But then what happens when he gets mass suggestion?
>>97172174Tell him that you will be giving the character consequences commensurate with the offenses. Subtle spell removes spell components. It doesn't make the spell imperceptible.
>>97172174If he actually uses it with extreme frequency you’re within narrative rights to have a deity (of magic, honesty, free will, etc) take notice and send an agent to sort it out. If your setting doesn’t have meddling gods there could be a spiritually corrupting effect to being a profligate mystical mind-rapist. If there is a court wizard regionally they might want to look into some suspicious enchantment patterns they’ve been sensing or scrying. World building wise: There needs to be an answer to the question “why isn’t this world just top to bottom dominated by infinity magic casting characters?” Just figure out what your guard rails are that justify the state of it and use them against him.

Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere.Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! What would happen if a Chaos God were to be killed? Would they slowly reform from the emotions of the galaxy's life or would those emotions cease to exist?
>>97171445chaos gods cannot die, they are not really living things, they are reflections of sapient emotion in realspace. You are putting the cart before the horse here
>>97171445If a god were to die it's likely to lessen the emotions they embody in the Materium back down to normal levels. The way I see it, the gods act as a sort of feedback loop, they're not the source of these emotions, but their presence in the Warp is on all the minds of anyone that has a soul. The galaxy of Warhammer therefore is more violent, plotting, despairing and debauched because of this. For another example, the Orks were more sophisticated before the birth of Gork and Mork. Eventually, the god would reform after a fashion. It would be an entirely new god, but how dissimilar could it be?
>>97096884Had my DH players investigating on Acreage, a feodal world famous for the "War of the Rhozes" among other things. It was overall pretty fun to have the SoB having to trade her power armor and bolter for old ass tech to fit in, the mechanicus guy having a meltdown about being on a whole planet without tech, all players being forced to drastically change how they usually operate for a whole scenario and being pushed into a medieval war. They liked it but yeah it's kinda strange to go from sci-fi to medieval all of a sudden
>>97172869God I tried that once (blending in on a feral world) and everyone went ballistic that they were being "punished" and "Oh the GM's taking our gear away".
