I've got pulpshit fatigue. Fantasy comic bookiness and pulp are beyond tiresome to me. Ugly as shit art, retarded as shit plots, dumbass pulp tropes like one dude solos an army of 50000 and makes a Marvel quip. Always some dumbfuck scifi or lovecraftian content thrown in too. I want grit, realism, and down to earth plots. I want characters who act like real people, not capeshit actors. I want a plot with substance, not mindless style.

I'm sick of it all, everything from Howard to Warhammer to Stench Crusade. Any other fatguys feel the same?

>Decide whether the game is within the "main universe" or a separate universe like the disaster that was Danganronpa v3: Killing Harmony.

>You need about 20 players.

>You have to kill almost all the players, and of those you kill, half have to be murder victims, and the other half have to be judged guilty by the other players and executed.

>You have to invent a whole jumble of obstacles for the clue and evidence search phase to discover the culprit.

>And the trial phase, oh my god, the trial phase must be mental torture for the DMs, or in this case, I should say... the MMs (Masterminds), and if they've played the Danganronpa games, they'll understand, all the adjustments they'll have to make so that each trial is different from the last.

>20 players.
I imagine it would have to be play-by-post at that scale, you reminded me of a pure-roleplay version that seemed to work:
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Roleplay/DoubtAcademy
(I never actually managed to read the blogs, most of them seem to be deleted.)
There's also stuff like the 'Survival of the Fittest' forum if you know what that is.
I imagine you would be running it like a GMed game of Mafia stapled to a ruleset like Fate, where you could just pick the aspect 'SHSL Forester' and argue when it would be a boon to a diceroll.
I feel like the biggest pains would be keeping everyone synced in time and getting a way to keep info between a player and the GM.
I think a fair few VTTs let you send hidden messages and rolls but time management is up to the GM, you might end up running big chunks of the game in Dungeon Turns.

Actually, there's a game to simulate Danganronpa and other types of death games. Look up Despair Dilemma. I've been following it since the development phase, having even volunteered during open testing to try it and give the devs feedback.

Instead of "everyone plays one character," because that would be insane, everybody makes a few characters that can be manipulated by each player. Each player also embodies a type of story element or plotline that you see in things like this, with goals like accomplishing certain types of plot twists, breaking characters, etc. You can find the game on itch.io, where there's a demo kit you can peruse.

It's not a Danganronpa 1:1, but it'll give you a lot of the same vibes, with the story even being broken up into chapters, and the character concepts being built on loose archetypes.

They were occasionally played when a seasonal warscroll made it somewhat viable to run like sixteen of the giant spear guys. They occasionally got rules for mortals and ward saves and the wurrgog prophet was strong.

That said, there were like four models and they were all ass.
>>
>>97211107
Their model range was too limited that was always the turn off for me I don't want to paint a million of the same 3 guys. I do hope they get reimagined at least I'd be down for a "were"-orc shaman army hopped up on amberbone

I see, well thats sad. I think a plastic rouge idol could have been perfect for the army. Could also have been cool if they developed them into being monster hunters even further ( even if monsters are kinda dogshit from what I can tell now), but I guess that niche is being taken by kruel boyz and soon to be ogres? Oh well. If I had known the models were $60 for 20 or 10 boar boyz I would have bought in, personally.

PNW-anon here. Buckle up.
So for starters, FASA are no angels. I was less-involved with that, given that they'd hit the skids pretty hard by the time I was old enough to care. But they did a lot of the usual shady stuff - "losing" royalty checks, negotiating Work-for-hire contracts on small-run items like brochures so they could re-use the art on sourcebooks without paying, that sort of stuff. They also had a knack for pissing off IP lawyers. Jordan Weissman is a big retarded golden retriever of a man who will take a mile if you give him an inch, and assumes everyone is as enthusiastic as he is at all times. Including lawyers.

FanPro/CGL is where it gets fun
To understand CGL, you need to know
>Both of the founders are card-carrying Temple Mormons
>They're former FASA middle management renting the keys to the company from a holding ocmpany
>One of them (Coleman) is senior to the other (Bills) and believes he personally saved BattleTech, so all of everything ever made for it belongs to him. Personally
They've continued the grand old tradition of not paying people what they're owed. Two line developers have very publicly quit over it, which is why one of the recent storyline updates got shitcanned for years and writers often refuse to work with them ever again
The first big scandal involved is The Porch Incident - Coleman embezzled the better part of a million dollars, including stealing proceeds from their convention booth straight out of the till as well as using company funds to build his house. Then he pressured the accountant to cover it up, and she quit. Finally the other founder posted a big "he's good with God, so he good with me" post and refused to press charges.

>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?
Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

Since a lot of games happen either digitally or smartphones are nearby, has anyone ever given players a digital puzzle? I don't believe in puzzles that stop gameplay but they can be fun for opening up additional avenues or giving bonus rewards. Thematically they could be security systems with exotic protections (and the other players helping out the netrunner to solve it would be the same as the teamwork bonus).

I know there are a few websites with good puzzles but often it means slogging through boring ones for 20 minutes. I gotta find a website that just lets you level select.
>>
>>97203883
Paradoxically, my impression of the Time of the RED is that with all the chaos and general shittiness and rebuilding its actually the best opportunity the world has to become something better. We know it won't thanks to 2077, but a dedicated group can go full alternate history.
>>
>>97210131
Every once in a while I've thought it would be cool to do netrunning in an in-person game on phones using a local client type thing, just to keep it from cluttering the table and add a level of immersion.

Beyond that I don't like taking eyes off the board whenever possible.
>>

Circle back around to
>It depends on the ref
For instance, I'm pretty wild. I might have a start that deviates from the RAW, where I give each player 15000eb and let them outfit a PC with all kinds of wild cyberware, gear, and other toys. Have them be a member of the MAXTAC squad. They'd buzz around Night City in an AV handling hostage situations and Cyberpsycho incidents.
Or maybe I'd have a zombie outbreak in a cordoned-off megabuilding that biotechnica (or some other corp) would try to cover up, and the players would have to fight off cyber zombies and corpo cleaners to escape.

If I were doing it RAW, I'd try to keep the grim shittiness while offering players little "steps" up to help keep them in the green and out of cyber psychosis if they're lucky. There needs to be a catharsis for the players after a prolonged struggle through shittiness.
>>
>>97203289
If memory serves correctly, shipping lines just straight up don't exist anymore. Arasaka made millions of AI-controlled sea minds and programmed the AI to blow up any ship that could be used by Militech. The AI then came to the conclusion that ANY ship could be captured by Militech and so decided to blow up every ship that came in contact with the mines. When Arasaka realized how bad they fucked up, they tried to shut down the AI and it basically told them to go fuck themselves. I remember reading something in 2077 that says this is still a problem being dealt with well into 2077.

So yeah, the 4th Corporate War was apocalyptic in its scope and implications.

I love the concept of Giff, whether in Fantasy or 40k; I simply can't look at them and not think they look awesome.
>>
>>97211528
Agreed. I don't know whether a full-on "Spelljammer Mercenaries" army is viable, but at the very least, Giff as a Dogs of War unit or as part of the Scro Invasion Force army makes sense to me, and I have a couple of Giff unit & hero ideas already.
>>
>>97211528
>>97211552
So, these are my current Giff-for-Warhammer concepts, but I'm open to discussion on tweaking them.

>Hero
Giff Mercenary Captain: A special Hero option, roughly comparable to an Ogre Bruiser with a Brace of Ogre Pistols. Has the unique special rule Separate Chains of Command; you cannot select a Giff Mercenary Captain as your Army General, but all Giff units in your army can use the Giff Captain's Leadership if they are within 12" of him.

>Special Units
Giff Mercenaries: Basically knock-off Ogre Leadbelchers.

>Rare Units
Giff Boombringer: Basically a cross between an ogre bruiser and a dwarf dragon slayer; a crazed giff that thunders across the battlefield blazing away with its brace of pistols or big guns, uncaring if it lives or dies so long as it gets to shoot and explode as much as possible along the way.
