>What is Trench Crusade?
An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.

>What Trench Crusade is not
TC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.

>What's the QRD on the background?
The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

the Carcass Front is going to be what makes or breaks TC IMO
if its great then people will love TC and the gameplay can catch up to the lore and art in quality
if its shit then TC will lose even more steam and i doubt the band waggoneers will be able to keep the momentum up
really their biggest stumble is not releasing their books at the same time im kind of hoping Carcass Front does well so we get more campaigns and things like old warhammer where players felt invested in the building world
>>
>>97326155
i mean it seems pretty obvious to me its TC space marines/ custodes
genetically enhanced troops as a baseline in smaller numbers with a bigger unit to handle other factions bigger unit, like war wolves or praetors
maybe a smaller "squire" or "serf" unit to fill in the lack of troop numbers

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to present and develop the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that dialogue is what keeps the thread alive, so don't be afraid of giving someone feedback or post whatever relevant input you might have!

>I take a species, give it a set of characteristics which can be used to form a sort of baseline culture/identity, and then create different permutations of that culture based on where I drop it in the world.
In a similar vein (and if setting permits), having distinctions based on nationality could allow for even more differences to exist within a single race, or even among several. Iron Kingdoms does this pretty well; conflict ensues more due to nationality or allegiances than due to race, though that does still exist. Also has beardless dwarves.

I'm brainstorming a 16th-century-inspired fantasy setting with a few twists. The names and history will be different from our own. The first twist: the in-universe Russian Tsar married the Khatun (Queen) of the remnants of the Golden Horde, rather than the former conquering the latter. This led to a reinvestment in and revitalization of the Silk Road. While the best days of this 'Jade Road' still pale in comparison to the Atlantic trade and the colonization of the Americas, its existence changes several things.

First, the East is more dynamic and wealthy. Since a branch of the Jade Road moves north, the Baltic Sea is richer; the in-universe Hanseatic League experiences a Renaissance parallel to the Italian city-states. Persia, India, and China see increased prosperity, and the Ottomans lose their monopoly on Eastern trade, creating two competing routes (North and South). Additionally, the English 'Moscow Company' (historically the world's first joint-stock company) becomes successful decades before the East India Company. Religion conflicts still happen, Spanish rise still happens, the colonization of Americas still happens, but instead of the usual "Europe vs. The Rest" or "Ottomans vs. Everyone," you have a tripartite struggle.

Is this a strong setting foundation? How close should I stick to real history even if this is mostly meant for a fantasy setting?
>>
>>97328208
If an alternative trade road existed to the goods of india and china then the colonial projects would be significantly diminished, simply because it would be much simpler for the european nation to access the desired resources.
For the most important fact under all this is the Netherlands situation. If an influx of trade were to come from the Baltics then the Dutch are perfectly places to capture a large part of it and move the trade along to the south, to spain.
So i think that if spain holds these lands which is far from far fetched, then the entire history changes.
Also even if nothing else changes the existence of a source for these trade goods significantly diminishes the value of a large part of colonies especially as plantations hubs, so you might still see colonisation but more of the northern us type or the portuegese with trade stations/forts competing for alternative trade routes.
In reality it wasn't even europe against the rest at least till mid to late 1700s. Most colonial projects in Africa are dated after the successful coup of the East India Company in India.
You have to understand that the British had been harvesting a good relationship with the Mughals for at least 150 years before they found their opportunity to weasel themselves in. A stronger Persia/Mughals and more importantly a Britain that focuses on the Northern trade, suddenly put in a much more favourable position than the one it found itself in, would most obviously focus it's attention on the Baltic trade.
Also i can imagine a golden age of piracy happening in the north of Europe with the Norse being a real menace.

You don't have to have dwarves in your setting at all if you don't want to. Why subvert something instead of just not having it?
>>
>>97330610

DNDdrones have this weird feeling they NEED to use the basic races.

>>97328208

I like the spirit of that, but it wouldn't work. Shipping is gonna be waaaaaaaay cheaper by sea anyway.

What is the counterculture of 2020s, that could be used as the basis for a contemporary countercultural tabletop game?

Take the World of Darkness for example, which was so grounded in the the counterculture of the 90s that it comes across as dated and strange today. How would you update the World of Darkness so that it better represents the counterculture of today?

Nightmare Mode: Talk about more than just politics. There's more to rebellion against the status quo and the prevailing social norm than who you vote for.

You can't be counterculture while having the entire medical industry bending over backwards to make up excuses for why they need to keep supporting your self-mutilation.

>>97331542
Nor can you be counterculture when you are represented by the most powerful man in the world, who is signing hundreds of different executive orders designed to appease you. If there is a "true" counterculture, it has nothing to deal with the culture war at all.

she is a standard succubus, spell abilities restricted, with CL 13 Ironskin on +3 Druchite Leather Armor
most of her AC is from +14 natural, +6 armor
hard to punch through, but with only 40hp, when someone can get through her defense, she is in big trouble.
>>97330551
with that math I see your point. Going to have to think about it. I don't really like easy ways to disengage or ignore threatened space. 3.5 rules make it too easy, you have a point about pf1 making it too hard.
>>
what's the point of the Flesh To Stone spell when Break Enchantment exists?
Break enchantment is lower level, lets you disenchant a dozen people at a time, doesn't risk the victims dying on you.
>>
>>97330722
I have long since thought about making bigger modifiers but then making stacking have diminishing returns. So that you go something like this:
Bonus A + 1/2 Bonus B + 1/5 Bonus C + 1/10 Bonus D + 1/20 Bonus E
Ignore any same source and whatever clauses since you already get diminishing returns and bonuses go up to 10 or even 20 instead of 5 for attack, damage and so on.
>>
>>97330780
Did you mean to type Stone to Flesh?
Also i assume it's a holdover from previous editions, but another anon might correct me

Varies depending on the terrain and extra stuff they put in. can be around 80€ to 160€ around here. no clue where you live and how expensive it get there or what currency you even need.
>>
>>97327650
USA, but that gives me a decent picture. I think the CSM raptors vs sisters will probably be the more expensive kind. Would be kind of neat if the release overlaps with the GW store's anniversary near me and we get a free mat too.
>>
>>97327710
From the previews we've seen, the new box will be nothing more than most likely 6 or 11 CSM models (whatever size the new raptor kit is plus a chaos lord) and 10 sisters, a pair of half-sized playing boards, and the usual bits like the dossier and tokens and cards. It very well might be on the cheaper side, closer to the wolves vs tau box we just had.

Very few units have had stats set up to 10, the Jugg and Nap being those that I remember right now (Nap with Awareness and Discipline 10). While at 10, you automatically pass any test, yes, but not necessarily win every face-to-face roll.
> picrel
New map!
I've checked the Taiping book and will upload it as well as the tokens, there's a few things I'll want to change or clarify in the rules, still making a list, but it'll 100% work in the meantime.
>>97314298
Alright, it'll be an econ unit, the carts will be random, its the best way to do it without turning the train into a more limited tank, and I want to avoid that. All the carts will have some transport capability, you might just not want to spawn your soldiers in the dining cart, but that's what you rolled this turn and you need the soldiers so... that kind of choice.
>>97315417
What I'm thinking is that the rails will be split off and set in the regular Structures section of the rulebook, so even if you don't have access to the Locomotive, you could lay tracks as part of an econ engine, and I'm thinking of putting the handcar >>97302625 as a merc special unit, since that shouldn't really be restricted, especially in a setting that takes place mostly in caves.
The rails would be something like "gain X silver per Track token connected and controlled", with the exception that the player who layed them controls them by default if they connect to his deployement zone(?). The Locomotive itself would grant Silver from exiting Carts from the maps, with bonuses set for exiting quickly and off non-deployment map edges.
>>
>>97322961
It could easily be ported to the new Neo-Mughal book, if that's alright with the relevant parties. I never did care for it in Lemuria either, but it's a cool idea and made enough sense when we didn't have a dedicated India book. Though, maybe it isn't worth bothering.
>>

One of the rules of the neo-mughal is that they can recruit 1/3 of their silver in lemurian units. In theory they shouldn't need to move it there.

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

A nearly complete archive of GURPS books can be found by using the image. Never post direct links to the archive anywhere in plain text.

If you're wondering where to start:
- The Basic Set covers everything, including a lot of optional rules you probably won't use.
- A genre guide can be found in the archive, under Unofficial/GURPSgen. It tells you what extra books and articles you may find useful for many common genres.
- How To Be a GURPS GM is a good read even for players.
- GCS (gurpscharactersheet.com) is an excellent character-builder software, with page references to all the books and the option to export to both Foundry and Fantasy Grounds.

Thread question: What are some systems or you would like to include or see included in a campaign, but haven't been able to? They don't have to be the main focus of the game, having them only as something on the side is okay.

Is there a list of all the magic systems in gurps somewhere?
>>
>playing GURPS
>character gets shot with a 12 gauge shot
>all pellets hit
>But the character has a standard concealed vest
>takes 0 (ZERO) damage, not even the max damage pellet could get through.
>isn't even winded
I feel like this isn't realistic. What am I missing?

Zero penetration seems quite realistic. Buckshot isn't going to do well against even fairly light kevlar. However, it seems somewhat likely that you would suffer effects similar to being hit with a beanbag round from having a significant amount of kinetic energy dumped into your chest, even if it is spread over a wide area. The failure to achieve this effect is due to the buckshot being treated as a bunch of individual hits, when in fact they all arrive at the same time and should realistically be combined for the purposes of blunt trauma (Basic Set, p. 379). Note that at very short ranges, shotguns do work like this (Shotguns and Multiple Projectiles, Basic Set, p. 409).

>blunt trauma
>(Shotguns and Multiple Projectiles, Basic Set, p. 409).
oh, so that's what I was missing. Yeah, taking 20 damage from pellets turning into two damage due to blunt trauma makes a lot more sense.

>I don't like how, certain weapons categories are just better than others.
You're wrong.
Dual-wield has the inherent -1 to defense which no one else has, though it's the most expensive to raise it's also the one who profits the most of Gunslinger. You can have an AP/HP loadout, and with Akimbo shooting perk you're the most maneuverable character in the game.
SMGs with low bulk and rapid fire means you choose the fight better.
Rifles punch the hardest and have excellent Acc.
Shotguns punch the weakest but are the easiest to hit with, and can switch almost instantly to slugs to punch the hardest.
LMGs have the heaviest firepower but you need high ST and money to use them, also we live in a society bottom text.

SMGs are the weakest unless you have high dodge and Tumble everywhere (see Martial Arts). I think rifles with their 5d and RoF 15 or something can't beat a Desert Eagle 4d pi+ in each hand, the shooter adds Acc on every shot, and the target rolls -1 on each defense.

Maybe Action 2 has rules for that I don't remember. I bet 3rd edition Special Ops, Covert Ops, or the WW2-line has something on it too.

How would it play?
I imagine everything you do would end in some kind of comedic failure.

No, anon, it's in the book's foreword. The people who made the book don't actually care if you find the damn thing balanced or even playable or not, they did the book entirely for a laugh and to piss off powergamer types who try to win every ttrpg they play by releasing a game where the only thing you compete to do is die last from how stupid and inept the pcs are.

Yes, I own both HOL and ButtHOL, I'm quite familiar with both, it's just abusing to see you acting as though it's in any way actually at the person's expense, when the entire thing is meant to be a self-contained parody
>>
>>97331573
I always assumed it was both, in that it's a very self-aware parody of ttrpgs that's useful as the literary equivalent of a prank where you invite your friends to play a session to piss off the overly serious ones and to laugh alongside the ones who get that the game was effectively rigged from the start.

I choose to believe that the video game is the version of Shadows of The Empire which Dash tells while trying to score Chiss pussy after he faked his death.

The final Lucaspilled prequelcel truthnuke is that the romance scenes in Attack of the Clones are good too. They're beautiful-looking and memorable. They're sincere in a way that you rarely see in modern films, evoking the earnest innocence of a bygone time. The "cringey" dialogue is just the standard elevated Star Wars style ("We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete") applied to a romantic context. Lucas sought to starkly differentiate the style and tone of the romance from the one between Han and Leia in the OT, desiring as always to deliver something new and unique. "Across the Stars" is one of the greatest love themes ever written. It was an act of Providence that Natalie Portman ended up "slumming" it in this film when she was at her absolute peak, because no other director would have done her more justice, or so easily ensured her immortality. It’s so deeply funny that Lucas shot this movie with a prototype digital camera with on-paper specs that made other professionals think he was joking. She looks better in Attack of the Clones than any other film she's ever been in.
