>You're a native to Shower City. You don't have to be an orphaned high schooler. Pick any background within reason
>None of the companions exist. Instead, everyone is part of an online friend group that, when meeting for the first time, discovered the coffee table rune
>Other runes exist in Shower City that lead to different cities in case you don't want to join the main group. All runes and the objects they're inscribed on are invisible to anyone that lacks the ability to enter Gras Paada.
>The goal is still to defeat the 5 warlords, but in-universe the characters only have a vague prophecy to save the world from evil
>You teleport to the world Gras Paada solo during your first time to gain an adverturer's soul. Any subsequent teleport will require you to teleport with others to reduce its load on the soul
>Items carried by you can be transported with you to and from Gras Paada. The smaller the item, the less likely it is to get lost during the transit. Items that fail to be transferred will return to you when you teleport back.
>By default, souls only give you a themed set of powers and can talk to you after visiting Gras Paada a few times. The amount of influence they have is up to you. Most characters don't transform into their souls, but it's not the be all end all.

I like the idea of a guy whose power is to take away other people's powers, but because he's just a kid it's not an instant-win for him.
He can stop you chucking fire-balls around with your mind, but then he still has to contend with an angry skin-head built like an action-figure.

Personal combat magic carries them to this rank. They can spam "weak" but useful spells and in some cases swing their blades just as well. At this level, they can probably match a garrison staffed with mages and knights and still have stamina for more.

Nestor, Kamikage.
The trifecta of Personal combat magic, Heroic prowess, and any magic that isn't item creation (laboratory dependent and not really that strong on a personal level) or holy (see above). These guys are one-man armies that could possibly solo actual field armies.

It's a personal prowess ranking list anon.
Item creation magic becomes busted on the adventurer party level because now everyone in the squad has 5+ spells permanently cast at all times. It's like they're each getting buffed by a squad of mages. However, it starts tapering off past that because you can't scale your item production to the army level without literal years if not decades of effort.
On the tactical level, personal leadership (militant lords), mages, and certain retinue members (spymaster, beast tamer, etc) start becoming more relevant.
Then you hit the grand strategy level, and certain magics (terrain shaping and life altering), backgrounds (political and land lord), domain boons (favor of X, food, etc), and retinue members (dungeonmaster) become indispensable.

"Power level" isn't a straightforward thing to quantify. You have to account for the situation, potential opposition, and what prep time everyone has. I went with a white room where the lords got no prep time for a fun exercise.

It's also rated without factoring in any long-term to permanent enchantments any of the other casters could've spent days casting on themselves. Hey, TojoAnon, I noticed a couple of things. Hana favors spending time with James (cute, even if she also favors Shun), and that it sounds like Rooster doesn't particularly suspect him for Hana's condition. I have some thoughts on this.

Are you sure you want to stick to the idea of her thinking Noodles is an office lady? Because I can totally see the kind and lovable newbie welcomer and the cantankerous forum owner having enough (friendly) interactions that she'd at least glean his demographics, even if they don't actually know who the other is IRL yet (I'm picturing her as a year younger than him), especially given her ability to go on about her favored subjects.

I figure that of everyone accused of harming Hana, it was James who got the angriest. And in Rooster's line of "occupation", one of his skills would be knowing when someone is bs'ing him. So James clearly wasn't just *acting* furious. I also imagine there was at least one moment where James and Hana were alone together; James training her on Water casting maybe? Anyway, Rooster would have access to this memory, and conclude that from the way he was treating her James just couldn't be the culprit. I can also see these two ultimately bonding over the pain of having an ailing sister; perhaps a scene with them sitting back to back as they talk.

I have a moment in my head where Rooster wants to punch James's lights out, and his raised fist is shaking because Belldandy just... won't... let him. It's not necessary, but perhaps she and Xernes were particularly close? They are both nobility, so it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.
