Is he the equivalent of a modern day Socrates? He seems to have it all figured out. Comedians like him and Joe Rogan are the modern version of Greek Philosophers.

>And there hasn’t been much writing about Interstellar in such an expansive, imaginative way; I’ve yet to see a single review that invokes Borges, J.G. Ballard, or Yayoi Kusama. I’ve read little examination of its playing with the imagery & icons of the reconstruction of American frontier and explorer myth. And I’ve read nothing on the film’s representation of atemporality, perhaps the defining modality of the 21st century, brilliantly explained by Bruce Sterling here.
>Most of all I’m surprised to see little appreciation for the meta implications embedded within of filmmaking and the act of viewing a film (and I really get to use the word film, as it was a production shot & lovingly projected on film). Or its obvious debt to Chris Marker’s La Jetée, surely territory that film critics would be staking out.

Midwits don’t really fundamentally understand any form of creative medium. They don’t partake in an aesthetic experience or an artistic reality but just a story. Plotholes matter more than what emotions and themes are evoked. They throw a fit whenever sentimentality is combined with realism in any way because years of cringe millennial pseudo nihilism shit weaned them on the idea that “realistic” things have to be stark and empty and morose. They also place a lot of stock in sticking rigidly to certain dogmas and so when you introduce some sort of metaphysics or emotional element that instantly infringes on the “science and facts” scheme of ideas in their head, it creates a dissonance because they need rigid sets of ideas for what constitutes realistic or not realistic. Add to that midwit insecurity and needing to vociferously assert when they feel they are smarter than the content they consume, and you have the reaction to this movie. I don’t even like it that much myself but it’s a good insight into the mind of a redditor.

This movie's rabbit hole goes very deep and no one ever talks about it for some reason. It's basically Polanski taunting the audience about how the world really works and how untouchable elites like him are -- he re-enacted the ending IRL afterwards and got away with it just like the villain in the movie. And that's just the surface

I have a question - You say there is a minority of people who
>NEED to know the truth and have a deep-seated desire to fight against evil
I ssume, despite having their basic needs met. But the image you posted says
>An unstable System that does not provide assurances in provision of basic wants loses the loyalty of the Lemming who must seek realization of his desires elsewhere.
And I would add that there are always a number of people whose needs are not met by any given system, and that number grows as the system decays - so there are three groups - the those who wish to 'fight evil' despite having their needs met, happy lemmings, and unhappy lemmings who may be persuaded - what's the difference between an unhappy lemming and the first group?
>>
>>219196680
Macbeth
>>
>>219206251
Being unhappy with the system and having a need to fight evil are not the same thing at all.

Most people who are either happy or unhappy with the system--far from wanting to fight evil--would rather BE evil themselves and only avoid it out of fear of exposure and punishment.

This is the huge mistake that all righteous crusaders make, they think that all the "normal" people are moral, but just happen to be stupid and/or cowardly. In reality, most people simply do not care about good and evil and will adopt whatever moral framework seems to offer them the best deal.

You hear a LOT of people saying "We gotta kill pedos, pedos get the rope," etc. Most of those people are just saying what they think everybody else wants to hear, whatever the acceptable opinion is. A lot of them are pedos themselves saying things like that to hide their true nature.

Or take a look at prisoners who beat up and kill pedophiles in prison, you think they actually care about child abuse? What have they ever done for victims of child abuse? Nothing. They just want to kill somebody and they know that a pedophile is a safe target, somebody nobody will defend or avenge. They want to be violent and get away with it, not take some kind of stand for justice, if they gave a fuck about right and wrong, why are they in prison in the first place? They might think that child abuse is more evil than their own crimes, but so what? where do they get off acting like a righteous avenger, are they going to avenge their own victims next?

Most people aren't really good or evil, they're mostly just neutral and willing to switch sides back and forth for temporary advantage.

Most people ACT good most of the time because they lack power and it's safer to seem like a good person.

There were 2 endings. The actual ending and the "happy ending" the US theatrical release had because the studio thought the actual ending was too depressing. The movie still failed in the US.

Essentially I discovered a blueprint on how my life might end up if I become too autistic.

So I just finished up a first time watch of The Sopranos last weekend, and it was incredible. Family and friends have told me I should watch The Wire, and that it is just as good as The Sopranos though different in tone.

I watched the first episode, and it seemed so corny to me and without the self-aware humor The Sopranos has. Does it get better?

>>219203091
Wire is better, yes. More dense, more complex. Sopranos is great as well, the Wire is just on a different tier.
>>
I found it helpful, especially in the first season, to put the subtitles on. A lot of the jungle jibber-jabber can be hard to make out, meaning that you’ll miss important plot points.

I'm 2 seasons in. I was skeptical at first, but man it really is so good. I have a soft spot for The Sopranos as I watched it first and when I was a teenager and it was the best thing I'd ever seen. But The Wire is probably just as good, in a different way. The Sopranos is primarily a character study mostly about relationships, where The Wire is about systems and procedures. Maybe that's why people are saying you have to really pay attention: because each scene is relevant and has an effect on what happens next, leading up to the conclusion. I think The Sopranos is more a family drama, and in a way it's more about feelings and irrational behavior, where everything in The Wire feels coldly logical. The police are doing their jobs, the criminals are doing theirs, both sides make stupid, fatal mistakes at times, but it's completely logically driven by the types of people they are. The ending of the seasons (I've only seen the first two so far) feel inevitable but tragic.
