Michael then acts shocked when he looks to others for help to get away from that life, and he didn't even want to kill Michael, just oust him from power so he could escape from Michael's jew-like clutches, and for this Michael goes absolutely psychotic.
I think Michael should have spared him, Vito may have, idk, but at that point Michael was seeing daggers coming from everywhere and trying to cut out as many potential future ones as possible
