This is one of my all time favorite PS1 games. Turn based RTS game where you pilot a bunch of melee mechs that also use magic. There is even a ninja mech. The game has branching storyline where your decisions will effect the story.
Ring of Red is from the PS2 era. Also a turn based RTS game. This one takes place in alternate history Japan where the communists control half the country and pro-democracy troops control the other. Basically Korea war but in Japan. What sets this one apart is the combat, you move your mechs across the grid and when they are within range of an enemy you enter into a fully controllable battle with the enemy unit. The mechs are like diesel powered tanks with legs, but they come in the standard fast and speedy machine gunner, standard all purpose middle distance, and slow long distance. Each unit has two ground troop squads that accompany it and can be targeted. They each have special skills that can enhance your combat plan like planting mines to stop mechs from approaching.
