Why did Final Fantasy VII Rebirth flop?A remake of FFVII was for a long time considered one of the most legendary games a company can theoretically make, on par with the fabled "Half Life 3", "Diablo 3" and a "Pokémon MMO" (unsurprisingly, all turned out to be underwhelming). But when FFVII Remake (part 1) released, there was some hope that this could be one of the greatest video game projects of all time. This is probably because of its limited scope compared to Rebirth, covering only around 3 hours of gameplay from the original FFVII, as opposed to the rest of the first disk. If you ignore things like the sewer level and the 11th hour multiverse story rugpull, Remake is a fairly average linear AAA title. Rebirth manages to not only fall far short of expectations as far as open world RPGs go, but it is significantly worse and more obnoxious than Remake in many ways.
