whats your favorite barcade
>>735533067>barcadeNone of them. They're all fucking shit. None of them properly maintain the cabinets and there's always something wrong with them. Whether it's sticky buttons, a fuzzy/burned/washed out screen, or a sticky beer soaked control panel, I have never been to a barcade and had a good experience.Just go to Round 1 instead.
>>735533141This. They’re all shit. At least the pinball machines work. Round 1 is okay. I’m pretty sure you’re allowed to drink at the bowling alley as long as you get drinks from their venue/bar so that’s cool. Shits overpriced but it is what it is

>>735529690If you want an honest answer, Pokopia and Kirby Air Riders. Bananaza is mediocre and MKW is typical mk boring shit. Air Riders is genuinely a good game and so is Pokopia. Rest that I didn't mention aren't even worth mentioning. Hopefully Dusk Bloods is #3 since Miyazaki is directing it and apparently it's the highest budget out of any fromsoft games. A sequel to Odyssey/new 3d Mario would be an easy #4, also a kid Icarus game and pikmin 5, If Nintendo really wanted to do something crazy probably a new F-Zero.

>soon every physical media will be replaced by empty cartridges with online key codesCan we ever go back?
IDK man, digital games are just gonna become the standard going forward. I actually love physical media in theory, but I find having to switch discs/carts to be kinda annoying sometimes. I usually only buy phyiscal games if it's a series I really care about. I think the nostalgia of going to EB games is fun.The EB Games I grew up with straight up closed during covid. The closest brick and mortor store that isn't a best buy or walmart is super far. I'm sure I'm not the only person with that issue. If you're rural, or even "rural suburban" there isn't really many options tto buy psychical games anyway.
>>735521097No, but the keycards are a terrible idea either way.Its the inconvenient swapping of physical, with the non-ownership of digital.Ultimately, though, outside of keeping the roms yourself and emulating consoles are basically time-bombs anyway. My PS2 slim is dead, as are my PS3, 360, and probably a number of others I haven't tried booting in forever. My PSP's battery started swelling a few years ago, so it doesn't have one anymore. And the UMDs were practically designed to break with their stupid setup.Of course, on the other end, PC materials are in a big squeeze for who knows how long. And I really needed to upgrade mine years ago but never had the loose funds for it.
>>735521097Nintendo will never go all digital because they know children, their target audience, don't always have consistent, freely available internet.
>>735529319One of many cases of people just looking for an excuse to get mad.
Yes, we can go back. It’s easy. Buy retro consoles and retro games.

Why did the stealth genre die?
>>735505794Tenchu committed seppuku by not sticking with the playstation.
>>735505794Tenchu pioneered the stealth genre along with MGS and Thief so the rest could walk. It didn't have any staying power as its structural design was derivative.Shadow Tactics is less of a stealth game and more of a strategy game in the vein of the desperados series. The Hitman games are too egregiously overplayed with how they handle their multiplicities in assassinating targets. They're now more seen as speedrunning chokeholds than actual games. Dishonored and its immersive-sim ilk are too barred by their shoddy level design. Go on a killing spree in each level? Congratulations. You get the high chaos ending that's cinematic as all hell. Actually play it as a stealth game, though? The main villain chickens out and leaves the keys on the table for you to pick up. It's extremely contradictory and anticlimactic with how the developers set the game up in mind and in expectation of how players actually play.MGS as a whole is too Hollywood-esque and suffered from corporatism the most out of any franchise barring Nintendo's bureaucratic lily-padding that reflects how much the games as a whole have like milk in retrospect. Yeah, no, sure, they're only *groundbreaking* because there was nothing else for normies at the time of their launch. MGS2 was proof of that divide between game design and ownership.Splinter Cell and Thief are the pinnacle of the stealth genre and, thus, prove how already perfected they made it to be by actually emphasizing the shadows on how stealth games are meant to be played.
>>735508983>>why are froggerlikes outdated?ftfy
>>735531296I'm pretty sure stealth is dead because a significant portion of gen Z and perhaps the very late portion of millennials (to not have grown up with Thief or Splinter Cell) had not played any of these games. We're stuck with ADHD gamers so there's no demand too. It's dead from the development perspective of that no one is talented enough to program them as well. It's practically kryptonite for the majority of talentless indie developers too. It can only really ever be attempted from the AA side of development and even then there are no guarantees of success either. There's still high risks involved and everyone wants to avoid the risks. It's not easy for someone who has no veteran experience to even construct the games let alone write competent AI scripting. Having them figuring out dynamic lighting or advanced sound propagation techniques is out of the question and is basically filtering out 99% of them and that's a fact. Let alone younger generations don't think these are ground rule necessities because they've played too much Assassins Creed to know any better. For some reason the only real depth you'll ever get out of an independent project will always be The Dark Mod. So they'll just make some casual crap instead.
>>735533230I was a little puzzled over how someone could perceive Zelda to be a stealth game. Are we talking about the stealth sections of Windwaker or something? because I'm very confused over what conceptually we are talking about. I don't think something that amounts to what Beyond Good and Evil did at times is a stealth game. Not seeing it with BOTW or TOTK either. It might not be bait because there are some people that genuinely believe that the optional stealth route replaced this design. Just a very misinformed opinion. There are some Neil Druckmann fans that call all of Naughty Dogs shit stealth games too so we always have morons claiming things that don't make much sense most of the time.

>>735534913
Alright it's been dissected and distilled to hell and back. Everything about it is known, all the systems, the numbers, the combinations. Why can't we replicate it?
>>735532649Dying is a punishment within levels. Later games have too many bonfires, I agree. But there's no reason for transit to be overly inconvenient between levels. I'm going to stick with the scenario I laid out before but slightly modified. Lets say I just beat the Gaping Dragon and got a bunch of souls to spend. In this hypothetical I'm a Pyromancer with probably only a few spells to my name. So my first move is to run all the way back to Firelink and buy out as much of Laurentius's stock as I can afford and dump whatever else I got into upgrading my pyromancy flame. And then I have to turn around and run all the way back to where I started from to continue the game. This just consists of me going through several minutes of walking back and forth across the aqueduct and up and down through the Depths (hopefully I was smart enough to get the shortcut) and then finally I can continue from where I left off through an area I already cleared. That is my issue with the system. Within levels, I don't mind being punished for failure. But when navigating between levels is tedious, the player isn't really doing anything wrong so the annoyance isn't justified in the same way.
>>735533136Andre matters more because of his placement, presenting a friendly face and place in a hostile world, especially as that place connects to a few areas, meaning that the area will call to you naturally. "Ah man I should get back to Andre" and then you begin making plans in your head for a trip back, with potentially other people you want to sight see or avoid.
>>735533004People read one line in an interview with Miyazaki that "difficulty wasn't the point of these games", and then forever think that these games weren't intentionally all made to be difficult. Like yeah, Fromsoft could make a way harder game than even Elden Ring's DLC if they wanted. Just make it so random spots on the ground are pitfalls that kill you instantly or have a bunch of enemies that delevel you to level 1 if they grab you. It'd be trivial. But all the same, from Demon's Souls on, the intent was for the game series to be challenging and for you to die a bunch. Fromsoft had a lot of experience making hard games and Miyazaki himself likes stuff like Berserk that was all about suffering and difficulty in its narrative.
>>735533398The Andre Pilgrimage is a big part of the game, yeah. But Fromsoft basically admitted that it was going to be too much by letting you upgrade your weapon (but not ascend) from the bonfire. IME, you don't even need ascensions until you head up to Sen's Fortress anyhow. And then you're given access to both Andre and the Anor Londo Giant at the same time.
>>735533725Rickert, too, actually. He's right at the other end of Firelink, so not a hard guy to get to by the time you need him.

>>735503927I don't think it's out of character, i just think is embarrassing because the Care Bears have been failing miserably into coming back into to the mainstream since 86, and Sega already has Angry Birds to push out as a washed out franchise on this gameIf Hello Kitty or even something like Garfield and Thomas the Tank Engine appeared in the game i would say "Ok! This still has some relevancy-cred, Sega could not afford to say no", but fucking care bears? If they included a character like Ronald McDonald, i would think that Sega are sell-outs, which i already know. If they included the Burguer King, i would think they are sell-out AND desperate. With Care Bears i think they are even lower than that

>>735533901I felt like I was actually damaging my controller and decided it wasn't worth it for one game. Beat it once and never touched it again. The few VR missions I tried were also infuriatingly difficult. Great story and presentation but probably my least favorite game from Platinum.
>>735533991I feel like the VR missions were trash as a joke on Raiden constantly talking about VR training in 2, it's the only thing that makes sense
>>735534481Platinum usually has good post game modes like that. Like Angel Slayer/Witch Trials in Bayonetta but MGR's VR missions highlighted how insanely hard the core combat could be. It wasn't even fun challenging difficulty, it was just infuriating getting ganged up on and constantly stun locked. So you rotate the stick so hard to break free only to immediately be stunned again.
